[Bug 1208455] Re: general protection fault running apt-get inside double nested kvm VM
The latest advice for running on Canonistack (kvm guest instance where nested=Y is to): - Only run on a 64-bit Canonistack guest instance. - Modify bin/prepare-testbed and bin/run-adt-test to start the autopkgtest VM using 'qemu-system-x86_64 -enable-kvm'. - Have the DEP8 test running inside the autopkgtest VM start its VM using 'qemu -enable-kvm'. Using the above but appending '-nographic /tmp/kvm.log 21' to each kvm command-line to allow console log capture results in the first created VM (the one created by prepare-testbed/bin/run-adt-test) locking up. Unfortunately, there is no output in kvm.log. I'll retry without '-nographic' as smb has noticed this seems to affect the stability of the overall kvm stack. Even if this does work, it is clearly not ideal to discard console output (unless there is another magic qemu option we can try?) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to qemu-kvm in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1208455 Title: general protection fault running apt-get inside double nested kvm VM To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1208455/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 1208455] Re: general protection fault running apt-get inside double nested kvm VM
They can be even together. The -nographic removes any emulated graphics card. I am not sure in detail how the cloud images work, but I believe serial line as a console is always on. Depending on which release (in that case I think it is the qemu user-space) the used setup would not work even. Because -monitor stdio redicrects the monitor to stdio and the default of serial was stdio, too. So they did clash (might depend on -nographic as well). So when playing without -nogrphics, and crashes persist, you might play with -vga std which would give a std vga card instead of cirrus. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to qemu-kvm in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1208455 Title: general protection fault running apt-get inside double nested kvm VM To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1208455/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 1215287] [NEW] [wrap-and-sort] Drops commented lines inappropriately.
Public bug reported: So debian/control supports # comments, much like bash or python does, and comments are good! They help explain things to other maintainers. [Bug 902557] Re: 10ec:8176 Wireless not working in 12.04 for rtl8192ce (RTL8188CE)
What name would give to the people that do the kind of Invalid - Confirmed - Invalid - Confirmed toggling that was taking place before I used that name? At least that silly nonsense stopped! It stopped because penalvch stopped changing a known and verified problem from confirmed to invalid. I would point the blame where it is due. panalvch. Not everybody for trying to keep a known and verified bug report open. I have grown rather tired of the kinds of things that are said and done on these lists concerning the Realtek drivers. I am not an employee of Realtek, nor am I paid by them. In addition, I have no knowledge of what is needed to make the chip work other than what I deduce by reading the code! You can also do that. This is why I stated that those working to develop a fix for this unholy dung-pile of a problem is the result of poor/lazy development on the manufacturers part. I know it takes a lot and requires a lot of programming / reversing knowledge. When I say they have my gratitude, I mean all who are participating in creating patches, testing, documenting, ETC. I would suggest that when these people make comments about a issue that is NOT the direct fault of linux devs that they should be informed to shut their ignorant mouths and go back to their beloved windows. Because they and their ignorance are not needed. If you can't help, than simply LEAVE !! Support the team or LEAVE - Period One other thing that irks me is that when I post a potential fix in the form of a patch, it might take one or two WEEKS before anyone tries it and reports back. By that time, it is difficult to remember what is happening or even why I thought the change might be a good idea. In addition, you can imagine how high I think the priority is for that particular complaint. This is VERY understandable, and I'm sure I'm not the only one to appreciate any patients given. I must say however, I fall in line more with Ryan McClures' comments. Although I generally attempt to refrain from making posts in public forums, specifically if I am not an expert. I USUALLY only post if I know for a fact I can help. This is because two things usually happen. 1) I could possibly derail the forward momentum of the project. 2) So I don't have to be scolded, or flamed, or ridiculed, or you name it, by hot-headed elitest peeps who simply just yell at others for asking questions. I always try searching and use various google operators to limit the numbers of possible hits to research. But sometimes it's just faster if somebody knowledgeable can spit out a fast 1,2,3 how-to without a lot of details which can then lead a person to a more detailed search. ( I think I proved this point because I have not asked any questions in this website, because I search for answers. But this slows things down a lot). So as for you having to wait so long for testers I would be willing to help with testing but only if small steps are given when a request for testing is posted. This way I don't have to waste everybody's time with incorrect or incomplete data. It can sometimes take a long time to find relevant info to what you need to accomplish and further test it before you attempt to try the said update or patch so the resulting data can be accurate. You mentioned Fedora... (I love Fedora and the only reason I'm not using it now is because of this unholy realtec problem and no they don't deserve to have their name capitalized or spelled correctly). Lubuntu 12.04 uses a kernel 3.2.0.23 which works flawlessly with the crummy realtec wireless nic. Granted I have to block it from updating the kernel but I do still get program updates. I love Fedora because of the massive amounts of documentation from top to bottom and it is extremely well organized. I have learned a lot about linux from that distro and I even downloaded all the documentation and keep it on my ipod. But ubuntu isn't fedora. As for my ability to help I would give myself a rating as follows: Dangerous / Intermediate user of linux who is not afraid to mess with stuff. But I do only have so much time in a day to figure stuff out and having zero guidance makes for burning through that time pretty quick with little or no results. So I guess if you want fast results than (with all due respect) don't be elitist and have patients when people ask questions if they don't understand what you're talking about. I have been told numerous times by many people that I should be a teacher. I don't claim to be smarter than anybody at all, I just have patients. If I were wanting fast results I would make a post on the topic stating that questions are welcome and GOOD, as virtually no questions are dumb unless they are intended to be dumb. This would allow unsure people like myself to brave asking how to do something we don't understand. which could makes things move along much faster. If a troll comes in and asks a dumb question than don't waste your breath, simply

OH crap BTW!! This is NOT a ubuntu only problem. This problem, as I have stated in my first post, affects debian, ubuntu, fedora, arch linux. I have not tried other distros besides those listed. So Larry, if you are much more knowledgeable in fedora than say ubuntu it might be a good idea to work on the problem on that distro. [Bug 1214618] Re: apparmor policy_version is incorrectly set
I have checked if there is a way in the JS level to change the representation of numerical values. On the JSON level the sringify function does the first conversion we have a chance to intrude. It can be given a replace function to overule the conversion: -- function replacer(key, value) { if (key == 'policy_version'){ var ending_zero = .0; var version_value = String(value); var new_value = String(version_value.concat(ending_zero)); return new_value; } return value; } function toJSON() { return JSON.stringify(jsonData, replacer); } -- Regardless of my clearly desperate and slightly hackish way of forcing the .0 at the end f the value, the JS either drops the .0 when it converts to numerical value or kindly puts the value as a string 1.0 to the JSON file. I assume that unless we change the very core behavior of JS how it handles numerical values it would be way simpler to store the version numbers in a string just as the application version is stored in a string. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1214618 Title: apparmor policy_version is incorrectly set To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/qtcreator/+bug/1214618/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Re: [Bug 946899] Re: [drm:i915_hangcheck_elapsed] *ERROR* Hangcheck timer elapsed... GPU hung
Thanks, peterbo. Sorry, got confused. Of course, I'm running it on 13.04, too. I have had these really weird crashes before (rebooting by itself) and they went away after one of the kernel upgrades, maybe even when upgrading from 12.10 to 13.04. Got the Hangcheck timer elapsed ones instead. That is, sometimes, when I return to my laptop, it is turned off even when I'm pretty sure I left it on, so maybe they have just been happening while idle. Now with the rc5 kernel I got the original crash (without error log) within hours again, so I got discouraged from trying any further. It's my work laptop, running dual monitors, and I really can't afford to experiment too much as I need it to run and do its job. I still can't believe that this is such a persistent bug (several bugs?). The Linux kernel used to be considered bomb-proof! Apparently its bugs, too... On 21/08/13 16:04, peterbo wrote: schymans: I am running 13.04 so have not tested on 12.10. The crash you describe sounds a bit worse than the gpu hang but I obviously cannot be sure. My laptop never rebooted when the hang occurred though. I must admit that I had one hang with rc5 after 7 days, however the error message was different than the usual Hangcheck timer elapsed.
Even if this does work, it is clearly not ideal to discard console output (unless there is another magic qemu option we can try?) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1208455 Title: general protection fault running apt-get inside double nested kvm VM To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1208455/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1213403] Re: 0cf3:7015 Whole system freeze with TL-WN821N USB wifi adapter
Bug appears to exist upstream in version 3.11.0-031100rc6.201308181835. Have added the above tags as requested. Basically rebooting into the new kernel leads to the same issue with a complete freeze until the USB key is unplugged and replugged. At that time, the system returns to normal. I haven't had it lock up yet during normal use, only on reboot. Attached is a syslog from an affected reboot. ** Description changed: My server occasionally suddenly hangs, and the wifi network cuts out. This is then only fixed by unplugging and replugging in the USB wifi adapter in question, and then the system suddenly restores itself and works again. When the system freezes, the whole input/output system fails, and any plugged in keyboards will not work until the USB stick is unplugged and replugged. This is a very frustrating bug, and has started happening with significant frequency recently. [Bug 1191688] Re: vmalloc failure on Lenovo W520 with Ubuntu 13.04 32b
apport information ** Tags added: saucy ** Description changed: Booting Ubuntu 13.04 32bit on a Lenovo W520, I get no wifi at startup. Network manager shows only Wired, Broadband and VPN. In dmesg, I see multiple instances of vmalloc allocation failure. See attached dmesg-w520-3.8.0-25-generic.txt One of them happens at loading of iwlwifi (which may explain the lack of wifi). The only workaround I found was to stick with the 12.10 kernel (3.5). --- ApportVersion: 2.9.2-0ubuntu8.1 Architecture: i386 AudioDevicesInUse: USERPID ACCESS COMMAND /dev/snd/controlC0: osm2342 F pulseaudio DistroRelease: Ubuntu 13.04 HibernationDevice: RESUME=UUID=a54e9178-f18d-477a-a32e-894e28298021 InstallationDate: Installed on 2012-11-06 (223 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 12.10 Quantal Quetzal - Release i386 (20121017.2) IwConfig: wwan0 no wireless extensions. lono wireless extensions. eth1 no wireless extensions.
