[Bug 1230091] Re: [feature] Window reparenting (required for appstore app trust model)
Hi Gerry, your suggested solution wouldn't work for us: we need to decouple the process child-parent relationship from the windows' one. We pop up windows from D-Bus services, and the same process could be serving multiple modal windows on top of different client applications (see also bug #1223881). I also recommend that processes which create windows on top of other processes be never stopped. In fact, I think that the shell should treat them as transparent: when in the task switcher, the user should continue seeing the name of the started application, not of the process who created the topmost window. I really recommend to stick to the Qt API, and if needed protect the API with apparmor. Since apparmor can protect files, and not individual method calls, we could make it so that the QPA (or mir-client) implementation of the reparenting request first attempts to create a file $XDG_RUNTIME_DIR/ubuntu-api//window_reparenting, and protect this path behind an apparmor rule, so that only apps belonging to the "window_reparenting" policy group can successfully create the file. Or we could simplify things and simply not allow any third-party apps to use the window reparenting feature (in fact, I can hardly think of a case where it would be useful for ordinary apps). Then, the shell (or mir-server) code would effectively reparent the windows only if that file is present. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1230091 Title: [feature] Window reparenting (required for appstore app trust model) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/mir/+bug/1230091/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1159232] Re: Running iwconfig crashes (freezes) MacBookAir3, 1 requiring hard reboot
I can confirm that I have the same issue and I can reproduce it on a Dell Latitude Laptop running Xubuntu 13.04. Mine occurs every time that I execute "airmon-ng start (interface)" on any wireless interface. So there definitely seems to be a correlation with the wireless drivers or interfaces. I get a kernel crash, but can partially recover by CTRL+ALT+F1 then switch back to X with ALT+F7. I have also tried with an external USB wireless card and had the same result. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1159232 Title: Running iwconfig crashes (freezes) MacBookAir3,1 requiring hard reboot To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/mactel-support/+bug/1159232/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1026621] Re: nova-network gets release_fixed_ip events from someplace, but the database still keeps them associated with instances
Hi! There seem to be two issues here in the one bug -- DHCP refreshes are causing problems, and pain with windows instances because of how they handle timezones and that causing extra DHCP refreshes. I'll talk about each of those separately. Windows timezones = I'm sorry to hear you're having pain with Windows instances. Unfortunately I don't know a lot about windows, but it sounds as though if we could change the bios timezone for Windows instances to the timezone of the compute node that would alleviate your issue. Is that correct? Looking at the code, each instance has an os_type field, which is inherited from the image the instance is based off (there is an image property called os_type). Xen expects this value to be "windows" for windows instances. So, libvirt could do the same thing here and treat the timezone for instances with os_type == "windows" differently. I'm going to create a new bug to track this windows issue, so that I can leave this bug focussed on the DHCP timeout issue. This isn't because Windows is less important as a guest, but because I don't want it to be missed in the DHCP discussion that's happening here. DHCP refreshes == It also sounds as if we could bear in increase the default DHCP interval, although you can configure that yourself as well. It might also make sense to ping an IP before we delete its lease. [Bug 1231252] [NEW] [FFE] please merge darktable 1.2.3-1 from Debian testing
Public bug reported: Currently on Saucy, darktable 1.2.2-2ubuntu1 crashes[1] any time I try to export Canon RAW photos. Although I haven't yet tracked down the cause of this crash, I do know that merging darktable 1.2.3-1 from Debian testing (or unstable, same version) fixes it. So I think I can make a pretty strong case for why this should get a Feature Freeze Exception: * Even if this crash[1] only effects Canon users, it means darktable in Saucy is completely useless for Canon users (who probably make up the largest group of RAW photo users on Ubuntu); it's likely this crash also effects Nikon users, etc, although I haven't confirmed that yet * The upstream darktable 1.2.3 release[2] seems like a low-risk release focused on stability and security fixes, and additional hardware support * System76 recently did some marketing around darktable[3], so it would make us look a bit silly if this photography workflow wasn't actually possible on Ubuntu 13.10 (a regression) * There's no short way to present the evidence for this, but Ubuntu is well positioned at an opportune time to pick up pro-creative users from some "other platform", so let's please always put our best foot forward :) Note that when I encountered this crash, my first thought was an ABI change in some dependency, but alas, a rebuild didn't fix it. I apologize for being so curt and unhelpful. It appears problems with Samba4 installs and upgrades are ongoing. It took hours to upgrade Kubuntu and I was in a rush with the failure of Samba4 to be re-installed. I have been trying my own attempts to fix this for about a week now. Please allow me the time to properly record the logs and error messages. Thanks for your help and I'll take more time and be more considerate in the future. [Bug 1231231] [NEW] [Lenovo Thinkpad T430u] random freezes
Public bug reported: System will randomly lock up and freeze. The key combo Alt + SysReq + REISUB does nothing. The only solution so far has been to hard restart. Typically happens on the order of once every day, sometimes more frequently. No discernible pattern regarding activity or computer load. I believe a similarly reported bug is Bug #1197869.
