Andrew, do you see this bug in both Firefox and Thunderbird? If, like me, you see it more frequently in Thunderbird, the following might help. I was also hit by this (unrelated?) bug in the upgrade. https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=917027 Applying the fix for that bug seems to mitigate this bug a little, although it doesn't totally fix it. I have to open display settings and it automatically sets back to what it was before, I don't even need to click on "Detect Displays" in this case. So it seems Ubuntu is having a hard time to remember my display settings, and it seems to load this wrong default every time any settings are called, causing the displays to turn off. - I have a X220 in a minidock, with two monitors plugged in the DVI ports. - The configuration resets most times I open any settings, and this - happens whether I'm with both monitors on and laptop display off, or - only one monitor and the laptop display both on. + I have a X220 in a minidock, with two monitors plugged in the DVI ports. [Bug 668145] Re: Font preferences not available anymore, internal font changed
>From a cursory examination of the Gerber spec (which I've never worked with before). It looks like the appropriate way to render an arbitrary font from it's vector representation is to render each non-contiguous shape of each glyph as a single contour (enable region mode with G36, draw the contour and then end the region mode with G37). Now this is tricky for many reasons. 1. The contour cannot self-intersect, except for coincidental segments, i.e., those who's start and end vertices are identical. This isn't a bad thing alone. The bad part is that non-coincidental intersections can occur due to rounding, creating a bad gerber for one device that is rendering it, but not another. :( Thus, we have to know in advance what this minimal pixel rounding value will be so we don't accidentally generate a bad gerber. 2. We don't get to work with actual polynomials, so everything has to be converted into straight lines and arcs. 3. Dealing with holes in glyphs (as in the letters 'O', 'p' and 'B') is a little bit of a pain because you have to add them as additional layers. If that hole needs to have something inside of it (I can't think of any English or Latin character examples), then 3 layers must be used, etc. So I would say that the way to perform this conversion is basically to have some type of resolution setting, but not in pixels, just to say how the glyph will be approximated and control the number of gerber instructions. Then an engine to "render" the glyphs into approximations using straight lines and arcs (for the outline) followed by holes (and possibly shapes within those holes, as there are quite likely languages that will need this). All of this while avoiding illegal overlaps in verticies as they may occur after rounding, even rounding as a result of progressive processing on a single contour! (See §4.4.8 of the spec, page 58 for one example of this.) To make this even more fun, it would seem that there would also be a need to render the font on-screen that way as well, so that we can actually see what we're going to get. I suppose, that that part won't be as difficult as the actual conversion into a gerber-compatible format, although it sounds like it may be a pain. For example, if rendering straight to opengl, you can't draw convex polygons, you have to break them into triangles, etc. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/668145 Title: Font preferences not available anymore, internal font changed To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/kicad/+bug/668145/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1239265] [NEW] Opening any settings page resets displays
Public bug reported: Most times when I open, for example, sound settings (from the indicator menu or from the dash), my display configuration resets and all my monitors are turned off, leaving only the laptop screen on, as if I went to display settings and choose to turn off both monitors. If I click in "Detect Displays", the previous configuration is restored automatically. Also, every time I spend enough time away from the computer and the displays turn off, when I come back only the laptop display is on. I have to open display settings and it automatically sets back to what it was before, I don't even need to click on "Detect Displays" in this case. So it seems Ubuntu is having a hard time to remember my display settings, and it seems to load this wrong default every time any settings are called, causing the displays to turn off. I have a X220 in a minidock, with two monitors plugged in the DVI ports. The configuration resets most times I open any settings, and this happens whether I'm with both monitors on and laptop display off, or only one monitor and the laptop display both on. ** Affects: ubuntu-system-settings (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: i386 saucy ** Tags added: i386 saucy -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1239265 Title: Opening any settings page resets displays To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubuntu-system-settings/+bug/1239265/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 525033] Re: During installation "Error informing the kernel about modifications to partition /dev/XXX -- Device or resource busy"
Installation of Xubuntu 13.10 beta2, also observed with Xubuntu 13.10 beta1 and Ubuntu 13.10 beta1. Installation on Asus Eeee PC 1000H. After partitioning (default options) a popup with this text appears: Error informing the kernel about modifications to partition /dev/sda1 -- Device or resource busy. This means Linux won't know about any changes you made to /dev/sda1 until you reboot -- so you shouldn't mount it or use it in any way before rebooting. I tried to update the partition information manually without success: # partprobe /dev/sda Error: Error informing the kernel about modifications to partition /dev/sda1 -- Device or resource busy. This means Linux won't know about any changes you made to /dev/sda1 until you reboot -- so you shouldn't mount it or use it in any way before rebooting. Error: Failed to add partition 1 (Device or resource busy) I checked the status of /dev/sda: # fuser -v /dev/sda USERPID ACCESS COMMAND /dev/sda:root 4051 F parted_server So parted_server wrongly keeps /dev/sda open. After pressing "Ignore" button in the popup the same message appears for /dev/sda2. After pressing "Ignore" button again the following message appears: The ext4 file system creation in partition #1 of SCSI1 (0,0,0) (sda) failed. Then the parted_server does not keep /dev/sda open any more and the kernel partition table (/proc/partitions) is partially updated (/dev/sda5). After running partprobe /dev/sda the kernel partition table is updated completely (sda1, sda2, sda5). After pressing OK in the last pop-up, the installer returns to the "Installation type" window. After pressing "Install now" the installation normally continues. ** Also affects: ubiquity Importance: Undecided Status: New ** No longer affects: ubiquity -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/525033 Title: During installation "Error informing the kernel about modifications to partition /dev/XXX -- Device or resource busy" To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/parted/+bug/525033/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. [Bug 829286] Re: software-properties-gtk crashed with ValueError in run(): is not in list
to comment 9 : I just upgraded from 12.04 to 12.10 (amd64) This bug will also does not let you edit a software source (like changing one from quantal to precise). Correct! I've got the same problem with an older software that's still on PPA and must be added under maverick. I have to remove the entry in Software Updater and create from scratch.
