Yea, this was reported back then from our automated upgrade testing which complained of these files. But iirc it turned out to be that this particular file could be left over since it was modified before the upgrade. [Bug 1247803] Re: dnsmasq temporarily breaks DNS resolution when starting for the first time
When the dnsmasq package is installed its postinst starts the dnsmasq daemon via the initscript. Dnsmasq initially reads what is most probably an empty file from /var/run/dnsmasq/resolv.conf and so initially can't resolve names. (The file is probably empty because it is generated by /etc/resolvconf/update.d/dnsmasq which is included in the dnsmasq package.) Then the dnsmasq initscript tells resolvconf that dnsmasq is listening at 127.0.0.1. In response to this, resolvconf runs the aforementioned hook script /etc/resolvconf/update.d/dnsmasq which writes a new /var/run/dnsmasq/resolv.conf containing information about other nameservers. The dnsmasq binary notices that the latter file has changed and re-reads it. Meanwhile resolvconf updates /etc/resolv.conf to contain nameserver 127.0.0.1 so that the resolver will talk to dnsmasq. It's this meanwhile that is the problem. Resolvconf may update resolv.conf to point to dnsmasq before dnsmasq is ready to resolve names on the basis of the information just written to /var/run/dnsmasq/resolv.conf. In other words, you're right. :) I think that the postinst should be enhanced such that if /etc/resolvconf/update.d/dnsmasq has appeared or changed on install or upgrade then it (the postinst) does resolvconf -u before starting dnsmasq. Confirmed - Installing 'xscreensaver' alone will NOT fix the issue. Same here. I have recently installed 13.10 on two laptops (both different types). It was a fresh installation, no upgrade. I have this issue on both laptops. I cannot really say when it happens. It just happens randomly. Sometimes it just freezes, but I still can move the mouse. Sometimes it starts with graphic errors (not showing parts of a program properly). But I never can interact anymore. [Bug 1248873] [NEW] Screen rendering issues with full screen virtualbox or remmina
Public bug reported: When running VirtualBox or Remmina full screen on one screen of a dual- monitor desktop, the other screen is not refreshed properly. On the 'host desktop' often incomplete renderings of windows or residual graphical artifacts are visible. Also the computer seems unresponsive, not rendering menus or the dash eventhough iḿ frantically clicking around in it. On the 'guest desktop' often an invisible unity bar is present which results in advertently launching apps on the host machine. - I'm using ubuntu 13.04 (this bug was also present on 12.04, 12.10, but less pervasive) with all the latest patches - The guests i'm using are virtualbox-4.3.2-90405 with the guest extensions etc. properly installed and Remmina-1.0.0-4ubuntu2. - The guest desktop and host desktop have different resolutions. Public bug reported: This got exposed when we started to use ofono-phonesim-autostart for the dialer/messaging-app tests. Reproducer: sudo restart ofono Expected result: indicator-network notices that ofono goes off the system D-BUS, listens for an event when it comes back, and reconnects. this should take no noticeable amount of CPU Actual result: indicator-network-service spends several seconds up to several minutes taking 70% CPU, with a tight loop spinning on trying to talk to ofono. It might be that this only happens if you actually have a SIM card or other ofono device.
