[Bug 1099458] Re: /etc/init.d/bind9.dpkg-dist file is left over after upgrade

2013-11-07 Thread Parameswaran Sivatharman
Yea, this was reported back then from our automated upgrade testing
which complained of these files. But iirc it turned out to be that this
particular file could be left over since it was modified before the
upgrade. Sorry, should have closed the bug myslef, but thanks.

[Bug 1202769] Re: WHILE UPDATING THE APACHE PACKAGE WAS BROKEN

2013-11-07 Thread Michael Orenda
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1202653 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1202653

I seem to have the same problem after upgrading to 13.10. Even after
completly removing ZendServer (which has apache and php) and
reinstalling the error still comes

 * Starting web server apache2
 *
 * The apache2 configtest failed.
Output of config test was:
apache2: Syntax error on line 140 of /etc/apache2/apache2.conf: Syntax error on
line 1 of /etc/apache2/mods-enabled/php5.load: Cannot load
/usr/lib/apache2/modules/libphp5.so into server:

The Apache error log may have more information.

The fix for that should be in the trusty kernel I believe mid-next week.

Would you mind opening a new bug against lxc saying that if the
container is in profile lxc-start, and apparmor support is lacking,
it must run unconfined or refuse to run?

[Bug 1247803] Re: dnsmasq temporarily breaks DNS resolution when starting for the first time

2013-11-07 Thread Thomas Hood
When the dnsmasq package is installed its postinst starts the dnsmasq
daemon via the initscript. Dnsmasq initially reads what is most probably
an empty file from /var/run/dnsmasq/resolv.conf and so initially can't
resolve names. (The file is probably empty because it is generated by
/etc/resolvconf/update.d/dnsmasq which is included in the dnsmasq
package.) Then the dnsmasq initscript tells resolvconf that dnsmasq is
listening at 127.0.0.1. In response to this, resolvconf runs the
aforementioned hook script /etc/resolvconf/update.d/dnsmasq which writes
a new /var/run/dnsmasq/resolv.conf containing information about other
nameservers. The dnsmasq binary notices that the latter file has changed
and re-reads it. Meanwhile resolvconf updates /etc/resolv.conf to
contain nameserver 127.0.0.1 so that the resolver will talk to
dnsmasq.

It's this meanwhile that is the problem. Resolvconf may update
resolv.conf to point to dnsmasq before dnsmasq is ready to resolve names
on the basis of the information just written to
/var/run/dnsmasq/resolv.conf.

In other words, you're right. :)

I think that the postinst should be enhanced such that if
/etc/resolvconf/update.d/dnsmasq has appeared or changed on install or
upgrade then it (the postinst) does resolvconf -u before starting
dnsmasq. The postinst should refrain from doing the resolvconf -u if
IGNORE_RESOLVCONF is set in /etc/default/dnsmasq.

[Bug 1248837] Re: update-resolv-conf/resolvconf dns leaks from ISP

2013-11-07 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit

Installing 'xscreensaver' did NOT solve the issue for me.

I will now try this workaround -

[Bug 1205384] Re: Lock can be circumvented by switching to console

2013-11-07 Thread amjjawad
Confirmed - Installing 'xscreensaver' alone will NOT fix the issue.

Confirmed - the workaround on this post:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/lxsession/+bug/1205384/comments/35
Has solved the issue for me.

Indeed, NO need for xscreensaver service to start automatically so I can
confirm that it is OKAY to install the package (xscreensaver) by default
to solve this AS LONG AS the service is not going to work by default and
that is of course, if the Developers will not find the right solution
for this issue without installing 'xscreensaver' :)

Thanks!

[Bug 1184451] Re: Ubuntu 13.10 random screen freeze while Normal OS activites

2013-11-07 Thread Ufisch
Same here. I have recently installed 13.10 on two laptops (both different
types). It was a fresh installation, no upgrade.
I have this issue on both laptops. I cannot really say when it happens. It just
happens randomly.

Sometimes it just freezes, but I still can move the mouse. Sometimes it
starts with graphic errors (not showing parts of a program properly).
But I never can interact anymore. Neither with mouse click nor keybord.

[Bug 1248873] [NEW] Screen rendering issues with full screen virtualbox or remmina

2013-11-07 Thread S.O.E. Ansems
Public bug reported:

When running VirtualBox or Remmina full screen on one screen of a dual-
monitor desktop, the other screen is not refreshed properly.

On the 'host desktop' often incomplete renderings of windows or residual
graphical artifacts are visible. Also the computer seems unresponsive,
not rendering menus or the dash eventhough iḿ frantically clicking
around in it.

On the 'guest desktop' often an invisible unity bar is present which
results in advertently launching apps on the host machine.

- I'm using ubuntu 13.04 (this bug was also present on 12.04, 12.10, but less
pervasive) with all the latest patches
- The guests i'm using are virtualbox-4.3.2-90405 with the guest extensions
etc. properly installed and Remmina-1.0.0-4ubuntu2.
- The guest desktop and host desktop have different resolutions.

I think this has to do with unity and compiz related libraries, but i'm
no expert on this...

** Affects: remmina (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

** Attachment added: Screenshot showing on the left the host with residual
graphical artifacts and on the right a virtualbox guest desktop.

[Bug 1248878] [NEW] nm-connection-editor goes into infinite loop when trying to change 'Password with Certificates (TLS)' VPN connection

2013-11-07 Thread Paul Koerbitz
Public bug reported:

To reproduce:

$ nm-connection-editor

Douple click an existing VPN connection

Authentication Type - Password with Certificates

User Certificate - click on file chooser - select a .p12 file

Expected result:

new certificate file is accepted

What happens instead:

nm-connection-manager CPU usage goes to 100% and becomes inresponsive.

This is what I see in the shell:

[Bug 1248880] [NEW] spends lots of time spinning on D-BUS when ofono restarts

2013-11-07 Thread Martin Pitt
Public bug reported:

This got exposed when we started to use ofono-phonesim-autostart for the
dialer/messaging-app tests.

Reproducer: sudo restart ofono
Expected result: indicator-network notices that ofono goes off the system
D-BUS, listens for an event when it comes back, and reconnects. this should
take no noticeable amount of CPU
Actual result: indicator-network-service spends several seconds up to several
minutes taking 70% CPU, with a tight loop spinning on trying to talk to ofono.

It might be that this only happens if you actually have a SIM card or
other ofono device. If you don't, then you can reproduce with

  sudo apt-get install ofono-phonesim xvfb
sudo with-ofono-phonesim # leave this running in a terminal

[Bug 1248888] [NEW] Folder creation naming is canceled when name contains underscore with french bepo keyboard layout

2013-11-07 Thread Nico T
Public bug reported:

Step to reproduce :
- select the french bepo keyboard in the list of layouts
- open nautilus and create a folder
- when it asks a name for the folder, try to give a name containing an
underscore (AltGr+space on the bépo layout)
- as soon as you press the AltGr key the focus is lost and the name of the
folder stays «Untitled Folder»

Remarks :
- I am using a qwerty keyboard with the french bépo layout
- There is no problem for entering underscore when I am renaming the previously
created «Untitled Folder»

2013-11-07 Thread Matthieu Baerts
@Christopher: sorry, there is no option to disable this card in BIOS of
my laptop.

** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu)
   Status: Incomplete = Confirmed

** Description changed:

With using Kernel 3.8 and newer sometimes I have a kernel OOPS at startup and
it seems it's because I switch off my ATI card.
I added this line in my /etc/rc.local file:
     echo OFF /sys/kernel/debug/vgaswitcheroo/switch

I don't have this bug each time but I guess it depends if this previous
command is launched before or after that X11's launch. I'm using this
  card: Mobility Radeon HD 4650.

It seems that this bug has already reported to there:
https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=49531 and
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=61529
But I guess it can be interesting to track this bug on Launchpad.

- WORKAROUND: Note that I no longer have this crash if I remove this line from
/etc/init/lightdm.conf :
- echo OFF /sys/kernel/debug/vgaswitcheroo/switch
+ WORKAROUND for kernel versions 3.12: Note that I no longer have this crash
if I remove this line from /etc/init/lightdm.conf :
+ echo OFF /sys/kernel/debug/vgaswitcheroo/switch
+
+ With the Kernel 3.12, we always have this crash even if we disable this
+ card before launching X11.

[Bug 1243529] Re: unity FTBFS on trusty

2013-11-07 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package unity -
7.1.2+14.04.20131106.1-0ubuntu1

---
unity (7.1.2+14.04.20131106.1-0ubuntu1) trusty; urgency=low

  [ Ted Gould ]
  * Clean up NIH Errors so they don't get reported on exit. (LP:
#1236720)

  [ Brandon Schaefer ]
  * Workaround for now, replace all blacklisted chars in the results
name with a '?'. So we can still render all the results with out a
crash. This needs to be fixed in pango/harfbuzz. (LP: #1239381)
  * Get the current char before moving on to the next char!.

  [ Marco Trevisan (Treviño) ]
  * UnityScreen: also redraw the HudView if it has not been fully
damaged. (LP: #1240322)
  * OverlayRenderer: only and correctly initialize the BGLayer when not
on GLSL codepath Make sure we set the initial bg_layer_ value to the
average color, and do this only if really needed. (LP: #1232726)
  * Launcher: desaturate the inactive icons when in Spread mode. (LP:
#1238892, #1238638)
  * LauncherIcon: add MultiMonitor quirks support A quirk can be now set
for all monitors or for just one. (LP: #1051913, #1215738, #1240750,
#1240737)
  * UnityScreen: CreateSuperNewAction with Shift and Numpad for launcher
This fixes the bug that caused Super+Shift+KP_x not to work as it
should. (LP: #1240806)
  * AnimationUtils: add Start, Skip and SetValue methods These allows to
start an animation, to skip it or to just set its value. The
templates now are more intelligent and we define the values that can
assume just once, by specializing a StartValueForDirection function.
  * Support libxpathselect1.4. (LP: #1243529)
  * LauncherIcon: use nux::Animation for each Quirk property Update
Launcher and Icons code accordingly, get rid of the timespec. Remove
unneded Quirks, reduce redraws and update tests.
  * Invalidate the Icon Centers when the monitor layout changes, so we
make sure that if an icon center is set, then the icon is available
on that monitor. Added GetCenterForMonitor that allows to retrieve
the nearest valid icon center for a given monitor, and in this way
we can get the best icon that can handle a window minimization. (LP:
#767752)

  [ Lars Uebernickel ]
  * panel-service.c: don't warn about unknown image type unnecessarily
Don't warn about indicators that explicitely don't have an image
set. However, continue warning when the set image is of an unknown
type.

  [ Chris Townsend ]
  * Instead of using NeedSoftRedraw(), use QueueDraw() for the Launcher
and Panel to force a redraw to fix issue where leaving a full screen
unredirected window would not redraw the Launcher and Panel. (LP:
#1240595)

  [ Eleni Maria Stea ]
  * Added --compiz-path parameter to the unity startup script. It allows
us to start unity with custom builds of compiz (not only
/usr/bin/compiz) like that: ./unity --compiz-path
custom_compiz_build_directory/bin/compiz --replace ccp.

  [ Francis Ginther ]
  * Reverting support for libxpathselect1.4. (LP: #1245988)

  [ Łukasz 'sil2100' Zemczak ]
  * DebugDBusInterface: add support to libxpathselect-1.4 Some cleanups
and reworking of glib::Variant and debug::DBusInterface Same as
lp:~3v1n0/unity/xpathselect-1.4 but with double function removed and
packaging dependencies added.

[Bug 1240737] Re: Icon opened when Dash/Hud is opened are not desaturated

  * Support libxpathselect1.4. (LP: #1243529)

  * Reverting support for libxpathselect1.4. (LP: #1245988)

  [ Łukasz 'sil2100' Zemczak ]
  * DebugDBusInterface: add support to libxpathselect-1.4 Some cleanups
and reworking of glib::Variant and debug::DBusInterface Same as
lp:~3v1n0/unity/xpathselect-1.4 but with double function removed and
packaging dependencies added.
