Since ChrootDir is not a default option, I think Medium priority is
appropriate given the criteria listed at

fix it, and an SRU to Saucy isn't out of the question, either.

2013-11-17 Thread Arul
Thank you for reviewing this bug report and assigning the severity.
While I agree with you on the assigned severity of Medium, I'd like
to point out that though ChrootDir is not a default option, it relates
to the security of apache server. I am not sure how many users simply
use the server w/ default options, but I would guess many will do server
hardening starting with chrooting. Would really appreciate if this fix
is included soon.

[Bug 997217] Re: salsauthd maxes cpu

2013-11-17 Thread Daniel Parthey
Hi Robie,

Justification against https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates#When:
* severe regression bug: Package sasl2-bin is unusable after Upgrade from Lucid
LTS to Precise LTS since saslauthd eats up 100% CPU on production mailservers
when using rimap and needs regular restarts. saslauthd in Lucid LTS did work
just fine with rimap.

Complete steps 1 through 4 in
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates#Procedure
Step 1) Check that the bug is fixed in the current development release, and
that its bug task is Fix Released.
 -- Yes, launchpad bug #997217 has status Fix released. Check.

Step 2) Ensure that the bug report for this issue is public.
-- Yes, launchpad bug #997217 is public.

Step 3)

Update the bug report description and make sure it contains the
following information:

[Impact]
* High Load on production mailservers since Upgrade of Long Term Support
Release from Lucid 10.04 LTS to Precise 12.04 LTS

[Test Case]
* Sporadically running into high load (infinite loop in saslauthd) when running
saslauthd via Remote (rimap) against nginx mailproxy from nginx-extras
package on mailservers with high imap traffic

[Regression]
* The bug itself is a regression in comparison to Lucid 10.04.

Step 4) Ask someone in the Ubuntu bug control team to nominate the bug for the
appropriate Ubuntu release(s)/series (e. g. the current LTS and latest stable
release).
-- Nominated for Precise by Adolfo Jayme Barrientos

Is anything missing?

Regards
Daniel

[Bug 1251939] Re: Chroot fails with Cannot chroot when not started as root error

2013-11-17 Thread Stefan Fritsch
If you fix that, you also need to regenerate debian/patches/itk-rerun-
configure.patch after the upstream patch has been applied . I have done
that in the attached patch. I would recommend that you do that for
saucy.

This will also be fixed in 2.4.6-4, which will be uploaded to Debian
soon. Therefore for trusty, there is probably no need for further
action.

[Bug 997217] Re: salsauthd maxes cpu

2013-11-17 Thread Robie Basak
Daniel,

Please could you elaborate on the test case? Neither me nor the stable
update verification team will be able to reproduce or test the presence
of the bug or a fix for it based on the description you've given. These
need to be step-by-step instructions that anybody can follow, including
somebody not familiar with the specifics of the package.

Will you be OK to test the proposed fix once it is built and ready, so
that the update will be able to land for general use?

Thanks!

[Bug 997217] Re: salsauthd maxes cpu

2013-11-17 Thread Daniel Parthey
I'm sorry to say, that there is no simple test case.

The problem cannot be reproduced with simple instructions. You need to
run saslauthd -a rimap for a few days in front of nginx-extras+dovecot
IMAP and do a lot of imap logins to trigger the bug. But the bug is
already fixed by the newer patch version of
0034-fix_dovecot_authentication.patch in 2.1.25.dfsg1-17.

Some more system information:

Precise nginx:

mail01:~# dpkg -l nginx* |grep ^ii
ii  nginx-common
1.1.19-1ubuntu0.4 small, but very powerful and efficient web
server (common files)
ii  nginx-extras
1.1.19-1ubuntu0.4 nginx web server with full set of core
modules and extras

Self-compiled known-to-be-working stable dovecot release 2.1.16:

mail01:~# doveconf -n |head -2
# 2.1.16: /etc/dovecot/dovecot.conf
# OS: Linux 3.2.0-56-generic x86_64 Ubuntu 12.04.3 LTS

Saslauthd ist running with following parameters, where 10.10.10.10 is
the remote dovecot imap server:

/usr/sbin/saslauthd -a rimap -O 10.10.10.10 -r -c -t 60 -m
/var/run/saslauthd -n 5

In the meanwhile I took 0034-fix_dovecot_authentication.patch from the saucy
package https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/saucy/amd64/sasl2-bin/2.1.25.dfsg1-17,
updated the patch
0034-fix_dovecot_authentication.patch in the precise package and installed it
on our servers.

I'll run for a few days (or weeks) now, and see if the CPU problem goes
away.

If you want to test an official package update for precise, we can do so
on one of the machines.

Regards
Daniel

[Bug 1160638] Re: usb printer works intermittently after upgrade to Precise

2013-11-17 Thread sordna
Not sure if this helps, but on my 64-bit ubuntu machine I was never able
to print to my MF4150 printer, I could only scan with xsane. I tried
many times over the years, with various ubuntu versions, and only
recently, on Ubuntu 13.04 and after upgrading the Canon drivers to v2.70
I was able to print. I don't know if the cups update alone, or the
driver update fixed the problem, but in any case I am very happy and
thankful I am able to print after years of trying ! I upgraded to Saucy
13.10 and am still able to print and share the printer.

The solution is from here; http://askubuntu.com/questions/127264/cant-

So i added these line to my /etc/mysql/my.cnf ;

[Bug 1251973] [NEW] Printing denied since upgrade

2013-11-17 Thread EricDHH
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 13.10 amd64, Patchlevel today
DISTRIB_ID=Ubuntu
DISTRIB_RELEASE=13.10
DISTRIB_CODENAME=saucy
DISTRIB_DESCRIPTION=Ubuntu 13.10

Since upgrade from 13.04 to 13.10 this system can't print anything. By
searching i found this in dmesg

[ 3098.185896] type=1400 audit(1384676379.061:70): apparmor=DENIED
operation=open parent=2878 profile=/usr/sbin/cupsd
name=/home/.ecryptfs/eric/.ecryptfs/wrapped-passphrase pid=3347
comm=cupsd requested_mask=r denied_mask=r fsuid=1000 ouid=1000

It does not matter what and which driver in cups is used, the printing
is denied and no printout file appears. No spoolfile for the driver
appears, but a new DENIED comes up. From the cups side everything is
fine, but is is blocked from apparmor in some way.

[Bug 1251888] Re: Flash stutter on 13.10 in Browser

2013-11-17 Thread Christopher
Problem appears to be PulseAudio. The following seems to solve the flash
problem:

 in /etc/pulse/pulse-client.conf (PulseAudio client configuration file)
change

;autospawn=yes  to  ;autospawn no

(autospawn= Autospawn a PulseAudio daemon when needed. Takes a boolean
value, defaults to yes. I assume that this means that ALSA and not
PulseAudio is being used, even though PulseAudio is standard in Ubuntu)

** Also affects: adobe-flash-plugin-tools

[Bug 1215826] Re: Lost ability to remap Caps Lock to Ctrl

2013-11-17 Thread Norbert
@Jimmy
IMHO It seems that GNOME developers are going to make the most simple/stupid
desktop environment today and in near future.
They removed all options from Keyboard Layout Options window (it was under
gnome-control-center keyboard in Ubuntu 12.04). They think that
gnome-tweak-tool is a good place for them. But gnome-tweak-tool is not
preinstalled by default.

You can report separate bug to GNOME bugzilla or add a comment to
existing bug reports - https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=711426
, https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=712165 . I hope as GNOME
users we can change the situation.

[Bug 1250631] Re: Meld crashes when selecting the first directory to compare

2013-11-17 Thread vmagnin
The directory comparison works fine launching meld with command line:
meld directory1 directory2

The bug is thus probably related to the directory selection window.

[Bug 853244] Re: Acer Aspire 5742Z brightness keys not working

2013-11-17 Thread Alkis Georgopoulos
Hi! No, updating the BIOS didn't change anything at all.

$ sudo dmidecode -s bios-version  sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date
V1.30
08/13/2012

I tried both with the raring kernel (3.8.0-33-generic ) on my Precise system,
and with a Trusty daily live CD, with the same results as usual.

Summary:
 * The brightness keys make the brightness window pop up, but the brightness
isn't changed at all.
 * Comment #22 from ag200spr does apply to me. So it is possible to change the
brightness by e.g.
   # echo 123  /sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/brightness
 * If I boot with `acpi_osi=Linux` in the kernel command line, I can change the
brightness,
   but the brightness window doesn't pop up.

So fixing the problem should be easy, if some upstream developer was
actually interested in this.

Thanks,
Alkis

[Bug 1251976] [NEW] appearance preferences cannot find aurora theme engine

2013-11-17 Thread Corollax
Public bug reported:

Version Tested:
* Ubuntu Raring and Ubuntu Saucy
* MATE 1.6.0
* gtk2-engines-aurora_1.5.1-3_amd64

Expected Result:
* Appearance Preferences should silently enable the selected theme.
* libaurora.so should be installed at
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/gtk-2.0/2.10.0/engines/libaurora.so

Observed Result:
* Appearance Preferences reports This theme will not look as intended because
the required GTK+ theme engine 'aurora' is not installed.
* libaurora.so was installed at /usr/lib/gtk-2.0/2.10.0/engines/libaurora.so

Reproduction Steps:
* Install a theme (such as WildMint) dependent on the aurora theme engine and
select it with Appearance Preferences (OR):
# apt-get install gtk2-engines-aurora
$ find /usr/lib/ -name ‘libaurora.so’

Obvious Workaround:
# ln -s  /usr/lib/gtk-2.0/2.10.0/engines/libaurora.so
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/gtk-2.0/2.10.0/engines/libaurora.so

[Bug 1251978] [NEW] Calibre ne se lance plus

2013-11-17 Thread James Ballyhoo
Public bug reported:

Bonjour,
Eh bien, plus rien ne marche... J'ai réinstallé Calibre en suivant cette
méthode :

sudo python -c import sys; py3 = sys.version_info[0]  2; u =
__import__('urllib.request' if py3 else 'urllib', fromlist=1);
exec(u.urlopen('http://status.calibre-
ebook.com/linux_installer').read()); main()

allait bien jusqu'ici.

[Bug 1248692] Re: just trying to upgrade 13.04 - 13.10

2013-11-17 Thread xabier
Thanks Brian for your quick answer!

Not sure why you fixed it as invalid. I guess it's a technical matter.

Though I had disabled all ppa, I was not able to upgrade to saucy.
Then following your instructions I removed xorg-edgers-ppa, but the problem
remains.

I have been using ubuntu for years, and have sufferd many issues, but
I've never found myself being rejected to upgrade.

It's not critical for me, I can keep in raring.
It's just to share a problem that may indicate different issues. And I thought
it could be quite serious that the upgrader core provides not clear solution
and lets you off.

[Bug 1205384] Re: Lock can be circumvented by switching to console

2013-11-17 Thread Julien Lavergne
@jarnos
The change was minimal on purpose. The goal is to include it as a SRU update,
so it needs to be as minimal as possible.
However, if you want to propose a patch to improve lxlock more, you can do it
upstream so it can be include for the next release.

[Bug 1251986] [NEW] package gdm 3.8.4-0ubuntu2 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-removal script returned error exit status 128

2013-11-17 Thread Santiago Gala
Public bug reported:

No clue, sessions stopped working after a reboot following an update,
with lots of errors that I guess are those reported now. After login I
got black screen with a white mouse and nothing else. Sometimes errors
(Cancel Report bug) windows without decoration...

It started working again after I updated, dist-upgrades installed lxde
and chose it as a session. Bad breakin completely X sessions, I had no
way to get network access or research/report the errors

[Bug 1205384] Re: Lock can be circumvented by switching to console

2013-11-17 Thread Jarno Suni
Julien Lavergne, #29, why is gnome-screensaver out of the question? It
does not delay locking; xscreensaver does and reveals the desktop for a
while when resuming from suspend: Bug #1229486

Marc Deslauriers, #7, I tested that, and indeed the combination seems to
work, but only with gnome-screensaver you are not asked password twice.

Budiman Saputra - I'm sorry, but this hasn't been fixed yet.

It's still plaguing users.

Basically what this means is that the application has been completely broken
for months now.

Also, since this bug makes the software completely useless - it doesn't
do the one thing it's supposed to do - I suggest making the importance
of this bug critical.

[Bug 930563] Re: NM Applet menu entries not responding

2013-11-17 Thread Philippe Coval
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1011073 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1011073

Since #1011073 is Released , let me comment over there ,

If it helps I just installed ubuntu-gnome-13.10-desktop-i386.iso (and tuned a
bit the system so my test can not be reproducible 100%) ...

I observed that despite the wifi SSIDs are listed in nm-applet , if user
click on one of them (open or not) the whole nm-applet windows disappear
this means that it does respond to action but what I would expect is to
have that settings window ...

I think I saw it once but now I cant see anything and restarting the
applet does not help ... so may this be an other (new) bug ? but please
can you check if you have a different behavior or not ?

I dont know where to search now , I have some suspicion on gnome-
settings-deamon gnome-keyring or just dbus ... any tracks welcome...

I am also considering switching to connman to compare..

It's all well and done until next time I log in. Brightness and Contrast is
still at 0.000 and Gamma at 1.000. Settings are not saved.

[Bug 1251991] [NEW] [13.10] 'xfce4-power-manager' should depend on 'systemd-shim'

2013-11-17 Thread Cédric Dufour
Public bug reported:

Hello,

After updating from Ubuntu Quantla (12.10), my system (Dell XPS 12) would:
1. attempt to suspend when lid is clised (even though this behavior is disabled
in 'xfce4-power-manager' settings); see bug #1222021
2. fail to suspend altogether when called from XFCE's 'Log Out - Suspend'
button

Even though:
a. 'pm-suspend '(as root) works flawlessly = suspend/resume works
b. 'dbus-send --system --print-reply --dest=org.freedesktop.UPower
/org/freedesktop/UPower org.freedesktop.UPower.Suspend' (as user) works
flawlessly = DBus works

I finally tracked it down to the package 'systemd-shim' being missing
from my system.

I recovered a flawllesly working XFCE's suspend/hibernate/resume
behavior by:

A . Installing 'systemd-shim' (which apparently installs the glue
between XFCE's power manager, DBus and 'systemd'

B. Inihibiting 'systemd' behavior (which overrides/bypasses 'xfce4
-power-manager'; see bug #1222021); in '/etc/systemd/logind.conf':

HandlePowerKey=ignore
HandleSuspendKey=ignore
HandleHibernateKey=ignore
HandleLidSwitch=ignore

C. Addind the new 'logind'-related policies for hibernation; in
'/etc/polkit-1/localauthority/50-local.d/hibernate.pkla':

[EnableHibernate:LoginD]
Identity=unix-user:*
Action=org.freedesktop.login1.hibernate
ResultActive=yes
ResultAny=no

Unless I'm mistaken, 'systemd-shim' should be added as a dependency of
'xfce4-power-manager' to avoid some scenari stumbling o the same issue I
did.

Cheers and thanks,

Cédric

[Bug 1250321] Re: Ubuntu 13.10 + 14.04 Catastrophic Random Kernel Crashes on Boot with ASUS Sabertooth 990FX

2013-11-17 Thread Michael Murphy
** Description changed:

  System Specs:

  ASUS Sabertooth 990FX (with the latest BIOS)
  AMD FX-8120
  AMD Radeon HD 7950
  240GB Seagate SSD (20GiB / partition)
  2TB WD HDD (/home)

  I have installed Ubuntu 14.04 three times and each met the same fate.
  The first time you boot into the system after installing it, it works fine
(maybe). However,after you reboot the system it will fail on such a grand
catastrophic scale that you can't even boot into recovery mode since that will
begin spamming error messages quickly as well.

  It isn't related to the kernel because I used the same kernel in Ubuntu
  13.04. I also had the same problems with Ubuntu 13.10 (I'm not sure if
  that still applies but I will soon find out).

  Meanwhile, Ubuntu 13.04 with kernel 3.12 works perfectly.
