[Bug 1257082] Re: MAAS does not use NTP servers specified in DHCPD options

2013-12-02 Thread Robie Basak
> The culprit seems to be in how ntpdate-debian is programmed. the logic
ignores /var/lib/ntpdate/default.dhcp if /etc/default/ntpdate sets
NTPDATE_USE_NTP_CONF=yes (the default).

This matches my understanding when I looked at ntpdate-debian with a
similar issue, though I haven't tried to verify this for certain.

I wonder what the intention of ntpdate-debian is in this case. Does it
do what it does because we don't want NTP to be set from DHCP by
default?

Is the reason you're facing this problem because your hardware doesn't
have an RTC, or because system doesn't use the RTC at boot time, and is
stuck at epoch? Fixing NTP from DHCP should certainly fix the issue, but
why isn't the RTC being set correctly at install time and read correctly
at boot time? I recently had a case where I fixed this in the kernel,
and then the NTP DHCP situation didn't matter.

[Bug 1156919] Re: Compiz does not place Java windows correctly

2013-12-02 Thread Yannick Mauray
Easily reproductible with a simple Java testcase (attached below) : a
window is placed at coordinates (100,100) (that part works fine), but is
immediately moved and reported to be at (101, 128) : 1 pixel to the
right, due to the window border, and 28 pixels below, which is the
titlebar's height.

We ran this testcase on another window manager and the reported position
is (100,100). We also ran it on other operating systems and they report
(100,100) also.

I verifyed what happening if I log in for example the gnome-session-flashback
old session.
If I click places menu the computer menu item, Nautilus correct presenting
computer:// place and possible accessing all filesystems.
If this is not a bug with Gnome Shell places menu extension, how can possible
changing the default working method with user level?
I added an another computer menu item into the places menu with presenting
computer:// address, but this is not a beautiful solution because the computer
menu item are duplicated.

side effect.

[Bug 1244158] Re: GNOME: Modifiers Only keyboard layout switch have no effect

2013-12-02 Thread alon
Hey good people of Ubuntu, Gnome and Ubutnu-Gnome,

What information can I add to help fix this issue?
- Selected keys on Gnome Tweak Tool for changing language: Alt+Shift.
- Scroll Lock light should turn on when changing to Hebrew
- My Num Lock light is always on (I always use Num Lock)

What actually happens hitting Alt-Shift:
- It turns Scroll Lock light on
- It changes the indicator from En to He
- It makes the Num Lock lightturn on (otherwise of on my regular keyboard,
whereas it is on on my Lap Top keyboard, and it does work as Num Lock...)
- laguage stays English when typing.
- When rehitting Alt-Shift Num Lock light turns off along with Scroll Lock
light and everything returns to be English (obviously includding typing
language which stays English...)

When hitting Super+Space (on Region & Language's Input Source tab's Shortcuts
it sais switching is by Super+Space for next source and Shift+Super+Space for
previous source):
- The OSD, probably Gnome's native, comes and allows me to select language.
- Living it will change the typing language to Hebrew
- Kipping it pressed allows the using of the mouse to select my language of
choice.
- Niether Num Lock nor Scroll Lock light turns on.

Using Ubuntu-Gnome 13.10.
No special added software.
Updated to latest updates.
WHat more can I add? Please help me help you help me!! ;-)

[Bug 1088146] Re: Asus n56vz battery state is wrong or battery not charging at all.

2013-12-02 Thread WhiteWind
About two weeks ago I have updated BIOS to the latest version for my
N56VZ and it didn't changed anything, but later I have installed Ubuntu
13.04, and now I have this problem quite infrequent! I can't judge the
hardware or software specefic details, but at least it's not so
annoying, so if someone can't bare it more, try upgrading distro and
bios, may be it will help.

[Bug 1257176] [NEW] Antialiasing is always on

2013-12-02 Thread TBeholder
Public bug reported:

Full antialiasing that minces all fonts into eye-straining blur is always on.
Evince apparently has no rendering controls of its own, whether config files or
CLI - but then, isn't it reasonable to expect an application without its own
preferences to obey the generic system settings? Yet fontconfig is ignored by
Evince.
Version 3.8.3 (though it appears to apply to earlier versions too)

[Bug 1257170] [NEW] xfce crashes after installing compiz in xubuntu 13.10

2013-12-02 Thread skilo
Public bug reported:

Everything was working fine after a fresh install of Xubuntu 13.10, I
fully updated the system and then decided to install compiz, I set the
command "compiz --replace" in the startup commands, When i rebooted the
xfce desktop failed to load and it gave some error message saying compiz
had crashed and sent an error report, I tried removing the compiz
replace command from startup commands but now xfce is completely broken
and wont start back again, It just loads the desktop wallpaper and not
the xfce panel or menu, I can get terminal access by doing CTL+ALT+T but
thats all i have right now.

** Affects: xfce4-session (Ubuntu)

[Bug 1178727] Re: 8086:0046 Screen brightness can not be adjusted in Raring with Intel Ironlake graphics

2013-12-02 Thread Ethan Shalev
I just installed a fresh install of 13.10 on this machine, and the problem
persisted. However, changing my GRUB settings to
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash"
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="acpi_osi=Linux"
now allows me to adjust the brightness, although at boot, it's set to 0. (I'll
look into that problem seperately).
Is there any reason I should not use acpi_osi=Linux? I've read it could have
ill effect, namely on the fans. Can I test this somehow?

Does this information help in somehow fixing this problem for other
users?

When I go to select a package, the "select one" dropdown list is

Also, I cannot figure out how to EDIT the original bug. I had to add a
comment to correct an incomplete file name.

[Bug 1250440] Re: bbswitch-dkms 0.7-2: bbswitch kernel module failed to build

2013-12-02 Thread Gavin Graham
Hi,

I've removed 3.12.0-031200-generic and that fixed the issue. I then
went on to do a clean install just for the peace-of-mind that my system
doesn't have any left-overs from all the up/cross-grading of packages in
my attempt to stabilse things.

Now on a fresh install and I am still seeing this in DMESG:
[ 1696.035720] ACPI Warning: \_SB_.PCI0.PEG0.PEGP._DSM: Argument #4 type
mismatch - Found [Buffer], ACPI requires [Package] (20130517/nsarguments-95)

I still get some odd ubuntu crash-handler dialogue box pop up when I log
in. They normally have something to do with xorg. I cancel these and the
system "seems" fine. I'm mentioning this just in case.

Cheers,
G.

[Bug 1257159] [NEW] ubiquity apport hook shouldn't suggest password is in log file

2013-12-02 Thread Marc Deslauriers
Public bug reported:

data/package-hooks/source_ubiquity.py contains the following:

if os.path.exists('/var/log/installer/debug'):
response = ui.yesno("The debug log file from your installation would
help us a lot but includes the password you used for your user when installing
Ubuntu. Do you want to include this log file?")

This gives users who are filing installation bugs the impression that
their password is being logged in clear text to a log file. This is only
the case if ubiquity is being run in debugging mode, not during normal
operation.

The apport hook should determine if the debug file actually contains
debugging information before prompting the user with this scary error
message.

** Affects: apport (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 1256085] Re: installer crashes on rescue

2013-12-02 Thread Marc Deslauriers
The dialog box is incorrect, the password is only stored in the debug
log if the installer is run in debugging mode by a developer. Your
password isn't stored in the debug log.

I've filed bug 1257159 to get the dialog changed so it no longer implies
passwords are being stored.
Thanks!
