[Bug 1070598] Re: Please make the shopping results in the Unity dash opt-in
I generally like Ubuntu and am actively using 13.10, but I am not as excited to promote others in using Ubuntu until the online Dash search feature is made opt-in (as I do care about my privacy so I have already turned off this capability). I know of many Linux enthusiasts who have switched to another distro simply due to this opt-out policy (and will likely never come back to Ubuntu), while many others like them are not hard to find on IRC or elsewhere. So, this has to be counter-productive with Canonical's goals to continue to build their community (and raise more money). If Canonical needs money that badly, why do they not advertise their merchandise section better? They have nice t-shirts, pens, and the like, which I have bought in the past. This would provide not only money but also much needed word-of-mouth brand advertising by the people who use Ubuntu. The current opt-out policy has the scent of Microsoft. So, I laughed in mild agreement when Mark Shuttleworth won the Big Brother Award (http://news.slashdot.org/story/13/10/28/2210220/) and also when RMS called Ubuntu "Spyware". Please Canonical, I do not mind having the capability of my Dash to search online sources, but please ask your users first! -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1070598 Title: Please make the shopping results in the Unity dash opt-in To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity-lens-shopping/+bug/1070598/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1261452] Re: juju-core is unavailable for arm64
So I tried this patch: === modified file 'testing/mgo.go' --- testing/mgo.go 2013-11-06 13:38:01 + +++ testing/mgo.go 2013-12-18 06:23:25 + @@ -99,6 +99,7 @@ "--noprealloc", "--smallfiles", "--nojournal", + "--noscripting", "--nounixsocket", } server := exec.Command("mongod", mgoargs...) And with it, the test suite still passes 100% for me. I did try connecting to one of the mongodb instances running during the test suite and run: > db.eval("hello") Wed Dec 18 11:06:31 uncaught exception: { "errmsg" : "db side execution is disabled", "ok" : 0 } I even tried: > var map = function() { emit ( this._id, this.format) } > var reduce = function(key, values) {return Array.sum(values)} > db.charms.mapReduce(map, reduce, {out: "format"}) Wed Dec 18 11:13:09 uncaught exception: map reduce failed:{ "errmsg" : "exception: cannot run map reduce without the js engine", "code" : 16149, "ok" : 0 } So I have a strong feeling that --noscripting does what we want it to, and that we don't, indeed, need the ability. I'm not sure what test Michael had seen that used something that needed scripting, but I'm running against mongodb 2.2.4 and it seems to be working with --noscripting set up. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1261452 Title: juju-core is unavailable for arm64 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/juju-core/+bug/1261452/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1262068] [NEW] nvidia-prime should support gdm also
Public bug reported: On Ubuntu GNOME we ship gdm by default, however nvidia-prime depends on lightdm. This means that 1. Anyone installing nvidia binary drivers will pull in nvidia-prime and subsequently lightdm. As a consequence of this they are also going to get the potentially confusing dconf pop-up asking them to choose a DM. 2. nvidia-prime probably won't work when using gdm I haven't looked to closely at how deeply integrated this is with lightdm, however we particularly don't want #1 happening, and it would be nice if #2 worked. Re: [Bug 1221790] Re: Screen brightness is maximum upon fresh boot
I did upgrade the BIOS a few weeks ago when I was running 13.10. Unfortunately, this didn't change anything. [Bug 1256874] Re: warning colour needed when the entire disk will be used
The issue is not just the 4 primary partitions in use with MBR. We are seeing the the forums many users over writing UEFI Windows with gpt partitioning. Again not sure if just user error or why it is occurring but it is a lot more than one or two accidentally picking wrong choice. Several have chosen LVM as it says 'easier' partitioning and it seems to overwrite entire drive without any warnings at all. Same with encrypted LVM. Several have installed with dual boot Windows, had major issues with Ubuntu, so they elected to reinstall. Menu said overwrite existing Ubuntu install, but erased entire drive, including Windows & recovery partitions. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1256874 Title: warning colour needed when the entire disk will be used To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/hundredpapercuts/+bug/1256874/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1229269] Re: Brightness - not saved
Darek, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com /daily-live/current/ . If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in the development release from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal), as it will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report: apport-collect -p linux Also, could you please test the latest upstream kernel available (not the daily folder, but the one at the top) following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ? It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel version specifically you tested. If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tags: kernel-fixed-upstream kernel-fixed-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER where VERSION-NUMBER is the version number of the kernel you tested. For example: kernel-fixed-upstream-v3.13-rc3 This can be done by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil icon next to the word Tags located at the bottom of the bug description. As well, please remove the tag: needs-upstream-testing If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the following tags: kernel-bug-exists-upstream kernel-bug-exists-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER As well, please remove the tag: needs-upstream-testing Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug's Status as Confirmed. Please let us know your results. Thank you for your understanding. ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Importance: Medium => Low ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1229269 Title: Brightness - not saved To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1229269/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
