2013-12-18 Thread Michael Bienia
Here is a patch I use to compile the open-vm-tools modules on trusty
(linux 3.12). It's a mix of a patch I found on the internet [0] and some
changes for uid_t - kuid_t and gid_t - kgid_t based on information I
found in the linux headers. So it would be good if someone familiar with
the kernel took a look on this patch.

I mostly use the vmhgfs module to mount the shared folders from VMWare
and didn't have an problems with this patch yet.

[Bug 1262029] Re: package samba4 4.0.0~alpha18.dfsg1-4ubuntu2 failed to install/upgrade: ErrorMessage: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 126

2013-12-18 Thread Robie Basak
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 988509 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/988509

Thank you for your report.

I'm not sure that this can be considered a bug in Ubuntu.

Specifically, the samba4 package description against version
4.0.0~alpha18.dfsg1-4ubuntu2 (shipped with 12.04) says:

These packages contain snapshot versions of Samba 4, the next-generation
version of Samba. These should be considered _experimental_, and should
 not be used in production.

So I think it would be expected in 12.04 for you to sort out your
previous samba 3 /etc/smb.conf or otherwise resolve the situation
yourself.

On the other hand, samba4 is default in the current development version
(2:4.0.10+dfsg-4ubuntu2) so there should be fewer problems with this
version and the bar for a problem being a bug is lower there.

[Bug 1262204] [NEW] tomact7 installation is confusing the user with home-directy. Tomcat is saying directory will not be created

2013-12-18 Thread Michael Basse
Public bug reported:

i installed tomcat7 on a fresh ubuntu 12.04 installation (fully dist-
upgraded)

The installation of tomcat7 is telling that no home-directy will be
created (sorry its german)

Creating config file /etc/default/tomcat7 with new version
Lege Systembenutzer »tomcat7« (UID 121) an ...
Lege neuen Benutzer »tomcat7« (UID 121) mit Gruppe »tomcat7« an ...
Erstelle Home-Verzeichnis »/usr/share/tomcat7« nicht. -- Creating
home-directory... NOT
 * Starting Tomcat servlet engine tomcat7   [ OK ]
authbind (1.2.0build3) wird eingerichtet ...

michael@raidbuntu:~$ ls -all /usr/share/tomcat7
insgesamt 32
drwxr-xr-x 4 root root 4096 Dez 18 14:03 .- created during the
installation
drwxr-xr-x 284 root root 12288 Dez 18 14:03 ..
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 Dez 18 14:03 bin

drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 Dez 18 14:03 lib

michael@raidbuntu:~$ date
Mi 18. Dez 14:11:26 CET 2013

So as it seems the message from the installer is wrong, because its
saying home-directly will not be created but it was creating the
home.directoy.

[Bug 1262202] Re: ubuntu-bug tomcat7 is crashing with permission denied

2013-12-18 Thread Michael Basse
As an additinal info:
i used ubuntu-bug tomcat7 directly after the installation, so i did not
change aynthing.

michael@raidbuntu:~$ ls -all /etc/tomcat7/tomcat-users.xml
-rw-r- 1 root tomcat7 1530 Feb 25 2012 /etc/tomcat7/tomcat-users.xml

So seems like, ubuntu-bug is executing it as my normal user michael
which is not part of tomcat7 or root.

[Bug 1081489] Re: autofs package is missing the lookup_sss.so module(!); negating autofs-enabled sssd functionality (automount fails)

2013-12-18 Thread Dan Bishop
Subscribed ubuntu-mir in the hope of including sssd in main to fix this
issue.

sssd is pretty much essential for enterprise setups and the only way to
reliably cache autofs maps. Promoting sssd to main so that the above
patch can be used looks like a great way to fix this... Having read
through the requirements, I see no reason why sssd shouldn't be
promoted.

[Bug 997978] Re: KVM images lose connectivity with bridged network

2013-12-18 Thread Krzysztof Janowicz
I think I may have the same problem running a 13.10 qemu-kvm host with 8
virtual machines. As far as I can see only two VMs seem to have the
problem. All of them use em1: macvtap as source device and a bridge as
source mode. After reading many posts here, I changed from virtio to
rtl8139 as a device model to see if I still lose network connection.

Hi Brian,

this package did not fix the problem. I've pushed two new versions of

Re: [Bug 1257857] Re: cgroup-lite fails to install in container in precise

2013-12-18 Thread Serge Hallyn
I've pushed a new version of 1.1.4, with changelog:

 cgroup-lite (1.1.4) precise-proposed; urgency=medium
 .
   * debian/cgroup-lite.upstart: undo 1.1.3 changes
   * scripts/*: pull in changes from trusty to make the scripts more
robust to previous mounts and/or mount failures.
 .
 cgroup-lite (1.1.3) precise-proposed; urgency=low
 .
   * debian/cgroup-lite.upstart: stop and exit 0 if mount-cgroups failed.
 (LP: #1257857)

Please accept it and drop 1.1.3 and the two other (earlier) 1.1.4's.

Sorry for how much work this is turning into.

[Bug 1237439] Re: tmux hangs

2013-12-18 Thread Serge Hallyn
Thanks for reporting this bug.

Does top show that tmux is taking up a lot of cpu time?

Are you able to attach to that tmux session from another window? Does
that window then respond to keyboard input?

running matlab, you ran

done

[Bug 1242940] Re: Bogus no space left on device error message

2013-12-18 Thread Serge Hallyn
Thanks for reporting this bug.

rsync likely is simply relaying a ENOSPC it got from the kernel. This
can happen for a few reasons. If you have a 200Gb fat32 filesystem then
you are likely hitting a maximum number of file entries. Are you able
to manually create new files, i.e.

sudo touch uploads/helloworld.txt

If so, then please run the rsync command under strace

   strace -f -ostrace.out rsync -avz
r...@x.net:/var/www/vhosts/x.net/httpdocs/uploads .

and attach the resulting strace.out file here.

And with it, the test suite still passes 100% for me.

So I have a strong feeling that --noscripting does what we want it to,
and that we don't, indeed, need the ability.

I'm not sure what test Michael had seen that used something that needed
scripting, but I'm running against mongodb 2.2.4 and it seems to be
 working with --noscripting set up.

It was state/machine_test.go and state/unit_test.go (search for
$where). But on looking, the tests might actually be testing that
queries like this are filtered out or something -- avoiding the
equivalent of an SQL injection? Not really sure.

Thanks heaps for testing this.

This was not reproducible in the initial out-of-archive bootstrap.

Correction: this was a known issue during the initial bootstrap, and the
testsuite was bypassed in order to avoid blocking.

[Bug 1222670] Re: [nVidia GTX645][10de:11c4] Unable to boot to desktop with nvidia-319 driver

2013-12-18 Thread Alberto Milone
According to the log there are two graphics cards on a desktop system.
Jockey tries to offload rendering to the discrete card. This, however,
should not happen on a desktop system, where I would expect users to use
the NVIDIA card directly (and have the monitor connected to it).

When LP: #1259237 is approved, nvidia-prime will do the offloading only
when dealing with a laptop.

The ideal solution would be to disable the integrated card from the
BIOS. We should probably also update Jockey so that it doesn't provide
the nvidia driver on desktop systems with Intel+NVIDIA.

I am NOT sure if this is the same as this bug but in my case, the cursor

mouse to see the desktop, there was no cursor but I was able to click, I
just can NOT see the cursor and it is hard to use a ghost cursor and
keep clicking blindly :)

2013-12-18 Thread Robie Basak
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 988509 ***

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which
is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper
developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage . I have classified this
bug as a bug in linux (kernel).

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport by using 'ubuntu-
bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more about this
functionality at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs.

[Bug 782116] Re: Package OpenNTPd does not install

2013-12-18 Thread Paweł Hikiert
Mrten is right. Uninstallation of ntp leaves its apparmor profile config
file. You have to purge it, and then openntpd installs cleanly.
