[Bug 1190696] Re: updatedb.mlocate uses 100% of the hdd IO. The OS is completely unusable.
Same here with ubuntu 13.10. I searched what blocks every day my computer for more than 1 hour. First I found with iotop that something accesses my mount.ntfs where a 200 GB partition of the system hd is mounted. Then with ps I came to the find command of updatedb described here. This is a really annoying bug. I don't think that an inexperienced user can find out what blocks his computer for more than one hour. I am wondering that this bug exists with no change from ubuntu 13.04 until now. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1190696 Title: updatedb.mlocate uses 100% of the hdd IO. [Bug 1265530] Re: Missing Reason-Phrase in HTTP response header for *standard* 3-digit status codes
I don't think any end-users are seriously affected (not even developers using apache). Howeverenterprise installations seems to be the ones that are affected: The reporter discovered the problem in combination with Phusion passenger (Ruby on Rails stack), that is also the case for me and another commenter on the apache bug. I ran into this problem when I upgraded hosts that nagios is watching. Nagios starting to report problems because of this. Another commenter on the apache bug ran into this problem when the http server was behind a varnish installation, apparently varnish also rely on this to work. So it seems mostly to be a problem in an Enterprise server setup, but that is also bad enough I think... [Bug 1188025] Re: [Dell Vostro 5460] Right key on the touchpad is not working
Po-Hsu Lin, thank you for updating your BIOS. Could you please confirm this issue exists with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ . If the issue remains, please just make a comment to this. If reproducible, could you also please test the latest upstream kernel available (not the daily folder) following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ? It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel version specifically you tested. If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tags: kernel-fixed-upstream kernel-fixed-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER where VERSION-NUMBER is the version number of the kernel you tested. For example: kernel-fixed-upstream-v3.13-rc6 This can be done by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil icon next to the word Tags located at the bottom of the bug description. As well, please remove the tag: needs-upstream-testing If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the following tags: kernel-bug-exists-upstream kernel-bug-exists-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER As well, please remove the tag: needs-upstream-testing Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug's Status as Confirmed. Please let us know your results. [Bug 1222021] Re: xfce4-power-manager does not inhibit systemd from handling buttons and lid events
Torsten Bronger, xfce4-power-manager normally uses xflock4 to lock, but that is not available in Lubuntu, where there is lxlock, instead. If I remember right, the power manager also supports a running xscreensaver or gnome-screensaver, if xflock4 is not available. [Bug 1161985] Re: Error sending ATA command IDENTIFY DEVICE
Hi, I can confirm I have the same issue on Ubuntu Ubuntu 12.04.3 LTS. I've posted a long comment on Bug #1176355 only to realise that it was a duplicate of this case. However, I see a lot of people are complaining about this being an issue on 13.04 or 13.10 whereas I have this issue on 12.04 but only since an update sometime around the start of December. Here is my comment from the other case - please excuse the length: Hi, I have the same issue but it seems to affect ALL USB disks. I unfortunately only have 1 on me right now but this disk does work on Windows and I'm fairly certain that I had no USB issues in November 2013, I suspect an update in December messed things up. I have also tried with 2 other USB disks which did work previously and they also are not working. [Bug 1164557] Re: 1002:7145 [Lenovo ThinkPad R60] Laptop to hot - VID to high
Rainer, thank you for your comments. I can advise that unfortunately putting in some VID logic in augmenting the ondemand governor, or the cpufreq module in anyway like this is just simply not going to happen. Despite this, one vital piece of information to know is are you able to utilize the proprietary drivers for your card following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BinaryDriverHowto/ATI (strongly prefer downstream, but upstream for testing would be fine as a worst case)? ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Importance: Medium => Low ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed => Incomplete ** Summary changed: - 1002:7145 [Lenovo ThinkPad R60] Laptop to hot - VID to high + 1002:7145 [Lenovo ThinkPad R60] Laptop too hot with radeon drivers ** Description changed: My laptop goes to very high temperature. First I think it was a fan problem. I adjusted thinkfan to use the disengaged option. Now my fan is at maximum speed if the temperature goes over 67°C. But still it is not possible to run the laptop for a longer time an 100% CPU. It then overheats and stops working. For example just after clamscan starts working the fan is at maximum speed (5600 revolutions) and the temperature goes up over 85°C, the CPU usage is the about 70%. My standard governer is "ondemand". By using "powersave" the temperature will be about 5-10°C decrease. My investigation show me that in my opinion the VID is to high. To verify this I do the following: - rdmsr -p0 [1] 0x0199 for every speed steps - the governer "ondemand" switches the MSR 0x199 between - 0x0613, which means 1GHz and 1.275V? - 0x081c, which means 1,33GHz and 1.3875V? - 0x0b28, which means 1,83GHz and 1.5375V? > by 100% CPU the laptop overheats and stops - set the governer to userspace 1.833GHz - reduce the VID using: wrmsr -p0 [1] 0x0199 0x0b20 > the temperature goes not over 65°C by starting load that goes to 100% CPU!. I see that the VID is always set to 0x0b28 when the governor change the speed to the highest speed. I don't know if the governor or an other kernel module set the VID The Sped (FID) is selected by the governor. - - The FID/VID vor maximum should be set to 0x0b20 instead 0x0B28 and every - thing would fine. WORKAROUND: Use the powersave CPU governor. --- ApportVersion: 2.12.6-0ubuntu1 Architecture: i386 AudioDevicesInUse: USERPID ACCESS COMMAND /dev/snd/controlC0: ubuntu 3165 F pulseaudio CasperVersion: 1.336ubuntu1 CurrentDmesg: [ 71.182993] IPv6: ADDRCONF(NETDEV_UP): eth0: link is not ready [ 71.185122] IPv6: ADDRCONF(NETDEV_UP): eth0: link is not ready [ 71.982542] iwl3945 :03:00.0: loaded firmware version 15.32.2.9 [ 72.055058] IPv6: ADDRCONF(NETDEV_UP): wlan0: link is not ready [ 72.055518] IPv6: ADDRCONF(NETDEV_UP): wlan0: link is not ready DistroRelease: Ubuntu 14.04 LiveMediaBuild: Ubuntu 14.04 LTS "Trusty Tahr" - Alpha i386 (20131108) MachineType: LENOVO 9461DXG MarkForUpload: True Package: linux (not installed) PccardctlIdent: Socket 0: no product info available PccardctlStatus: Socket 0: no card ProcFB: 0 radeondrmfb ProcKernelCmdLine: file=/cdrom/preseed/username.seed boot=casper initrd=/casper/initrd.lz quiet splash -- maybe-ubiquity ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.12.0-2.5-generic 3.12.0 RelatedPackageVersions: linux-restricted-modules-3.12.0-2-generic N/A linux-backports-modules-3.12.0-2-generic N/A linux-firmware1.117 Tags: trusty Uname: Linux 3.12.0-2-generic i686 UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) UserGroups: adm cdrom dip lpadmin plugdev sambashare sudo dmi.bios.date: 08/28/2009 dmi.bios.vendor: LENOVO dmi.bios.version: 7CETD3WW (2.23 ) dmi.board.name: 9461DXG dmi.board.vendor: LENOVO dmi.board.version: Not Available dmi.chassis.asset.tag: No Asset Information dmi.chassis.type: 10 dmi.chassis.vendor: LENOVO dmi.chassis.version: Not Available dmi.modalias: dmi:bvnLENOVO:bvr7CETD3WW(2.23):bd08/28/2009:svnLENOVO:pn9461DXG:pvrThinkPadR60:rvnLENOVO:rn9461DXG:rvrNotAvailable:cvnLENOVO:ct10:cvrNotAvailable: dmi.product.name: 9461DXG dmi.product.version: ThinkPad R60 dmi.sys.vendor: LENOVO -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1164557 Title: 1002:7145 [Lenovo ThinkPad R60] Laptop too hot with radeon drivers To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1164557/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1265544] Re: 8086:0a16 [UX302LG] black screen on boot 3.12.0-7
>You might be able to WORKAROUND the dimming+freeze issue by disabling screen dim in System Settings (which may have it's own systemd WORKAROUND to get these to take). I'll let you comment further to this. Yes, this was the easiest workaround but it forbids screen going down. So issue is persistent for that. >If you patch the default Ubuntu kernel with out of tree branches, especially an experimental testing ground like drm-intel-next, it's not supported. I get this, I just wanted to mention it. Once the "fix" from drm-intel- next eventually gets backported, this could be looked upon. >Also, did this issue not occur for you personally in a release prior to Trusty? [Bug 1169117] Re: REGRESSION: MBIM kernel suppport should be disabled until userspace support available (breaks Ericsson H5321 etc.)
** Description changed: "commit bd329e1 ("net: cdc_ncm: do not bind to NCM compatible MBIM devices") introduced a new policy, preferring MBIM for dual NCM/MBIM functions if the cdc_mbim driver was enabled. This caused a regression for users wanting to use NCM." This could be solved in different ways: 1) Remove "cdc_mbim.ko" from packages like linux-image-extra-3.8.0-XX- YY. Easy, but makes it harder for people to experiment with MBIM and add userspace support 2) Set the kernel parameter "prefer_mbim" to false for "cdc_ncm" module. This could be done by adding a file "/etc/modprobe.d/avoid-mbim.conf" with content: options cdc_ncm prefer_mbim=N This will allow people wanting to test MBIM easy access by removing or editing the file. Then the question is if this file should stay in modemmanager package or maybe in the kernel package? The required code for this option to exist seems to be in Ubuntu Raring packages in commit 04188f3010f64ddf2c75c3f4953eee9bdb4f5cc1. 3) Debian has solved it by patching the kernel to reverse the default to be not to use MBIM: http://web.archiveorange.com/archive/v/dbmrrKybrWTJ0XZGsB3B http://lists.debian.org/debian-kernel/2013/03/msg00611.html See also bug #1102343. + + WORKAROUND: Add in /etc/modprobe.d/cdc_ncm.conf : + options cdc_ncm prefer_mbim=N -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1169117 Title: REGRESSION: MBIM kernel suppport should be disabled until userspace support available (breaks Ericsson H5321 etc.) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/linux/+bug/1169117/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
