[Bug 1243076] [NEW] libapache2-mod-auth-mysql is missing in 13.10 amd64

2014-01-06 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

When I search for libapache2-mod-auth-mysql I get two results listed:

a) libapache2-mod-auth-mysql
b) libapache2-mod-auth-mysql:i386

When I click on the more information-button next to one of them, it
states:

Not found. There is no such package »libapache2-mod-auth-mysql« in your
current software sources..
(Translated from german.)

That might even be the reason the update from 13.04 didn't finished
yesterday, because I use/used this package in my apacha2's vhost config.
So apaches configure check stumbeld upon invalid configuration, and the
installation process stopped.

This page btw states that there is such a package:
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/saucy/+package/libapache2-mod-auth-mysql

[Bug 1251939] Re: config*.m4 search path

2014-01-06 Thread Robie Basak
Hi Stefan,

Thank you for explaining this to me.

On Sat, Jan 04, 2014 at 07:11:58PM +0100, Stefan Fritsch wrote:
You are right, the real fix is not included. We fixed the issue by
removing the patches that touch *.m4 files. Therefore, no *.m4 file
will be created in the .pc directory.

This reminds me that I need to propose the upstream patch for backport
to 2.4.8. Maybe we should put the fix into the debian package for
2.4.7-2, too, but there are usually few reasons to patch the m4 files,
now that we have moved mpm-itk to its own source package.

I'm wondering if there's more of a potential issue in Ubuntu than in
Debian here. Our next release will be supported for five years, so I
expect that we'll backport a number of as-yet-unknown bug fixes. As
we're team based, it could be anybody doing this, and they may be
unaware of this issue.

So I think I'd prefer to carry the backported fix for this, just so
there isn't a mine for a future developer to step on.

We prefer to keep our delta against Debian small, so that's a vote from
me to have the fix in 2.4.7-2, please. That's assuming that we just need
the ignore-quilt-dir patch, or are there any complications with
build system regeneration or anything like that?

I'll also look to see if I can write a dep8 test that just checks for
duplicate module loads.

Thanks,

Robie

2014-01-06 Thread Robie Basak
Thank you for your report.

This looks like a local configuration problem, rather than a bug in
Ubuntu.

Specifically, error 13 in /usr/sbin/mysqld: Can't create/write to file
'/tmp/ibADRj3N' (Errcode: 13) means Permission denied. It appears
that /tmp is misconfigured on your system.

You can find pointers to get help for this sort of problem here:
http://www.ubuntu.com/support/community

Since we use this bug tracker to track bugs in Ubuntu, rather than
configuration problems, I'm marking this bug as Invalid. This helps us
to focus on fixing bugs in Ubuntu.

If you believe that this is really a bug, then you may find it helpful
to read How to report bugs effectively

if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem,

2014-01-06 Thread Robie Basak
Thank you for your report.

This looks like a local configuration problem, rather than a bug in
Ubuntu.

Specifically, it looks like /var/run/utmp is missing on your system,
along with perhaps /var/run/mysqld/mysqld.pid. I'm not sure how this
happened, but I failed to reproduce by just installing mysql-5.5 and
cqrlog on a test VM.

I certainly see no evidence here that there is a bug in mysql-5.5 in
Ubuntu that caused your problem.

You can find pointers to get help for this sort of problem here:

[Bug 1266288] Re: cannot install permissions correctly

2014-01-06 Thread Robie Basak
Thank you for reporting this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better.

I can see that running check_perms myself does warn of problems on a
freshly installed system.

Is there a specific problem that you're facing here, or is it just that
/usr/lib/mailman/bin/check_perms doesn't like the default packaged
permissions?

Is there any Debian or Ubuntu specific documentation that tells you to
run this command, or could it just be that the upstream-supplied
program is not aware of Debian/Ubuntu packaging specifics with respect
to permissions? Is the bug here just that the packaging shouldn't supply
the check_perms command as it makes no sense to run it on a mailman
system provided by packaging?

Or, otherwise, can you please provide a test case for actual
functionality that appears broken as a result of supposedly broken
permissions?

[Bug 1262204] Re: tomact7 installation is confusing the user with home-directy. Tomcat is saying directory will not be created

2014-01-06 Thread Robie Basak
Thank you for taking the time to file this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

The message Not creating home directory is just a consequence of the
package postinst using the --no-create-home option to adduser as
/usr/share/tomcat7 is provided by packaging. I don't believe that there
is any problem with doing this.

Do you have a specific problem here apart from the misleading message?

Assuming that you're reporting just the misleading message, the best way
forward would be to verify that the message is also misleading in
tomcat7 in Debian, and then to file a bug there, as Ubuntu is unlikely
to diverge from Debian for such a trivial bug.

[Bug 1266288] Re: cannot install permissions correctly

2014-01-06 Thread Mark Sapiro
In the upstream Debian package, these entries in /var/lib/mailman are
actually symlinks as

lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 20 Jul 17 2012 bin - /usr/lib/mailman/bin/
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 24 Jul 17 2012 cgi-bin - /usr/lib/cgi-bin/mailman/
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 21 Jul 17 2012 cron - /usr/lib/mailman/cron/
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 25 Jul 17 2012 icons - /usr/share/images/mailman/
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 17 Jul 17 2012 locks - /var/lock/mailman/
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 16 Jul 17 2012 logs - /var/log/mailman/
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 21 Jul 17 2012 mail - /usr/lib/mailman/mail/
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 24 Jul 17 2012 Mailman - /usr/lib/mailman/Mailman/
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 24 Jul 17 2012 scripts - /usr/lib/mailman/scripts/
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 12 Jul 17 2012 templates - /etc/mailman/

check_perms is not designed to handle symlinks. It looks at the
ownership and mode of the symlink itself and complains and then, if
requested, fixes the target. Thus, it never fixes the symlink which it
can't do anyway.

Other than the complaint from check_perms, this is not a problem as the
ownership and mode of the symlink itself is irrelevant in practice.

[Bug 1266381] Re: OpenVPN does not stop IPv6 from leaking data

2014-01-06 Thread Seth Arnold
I don't believe OpenVPN makes any effort to prevent communications
through other configured networks; it is designed to allow creating a
virtual private network, not provide a mechanism to tunnel all other
traffic off the system out of an untrusted network. I do not know if
there are any drop-in easy tools to make this happen, but to my
knowledge Tor is the closest fit -- and even then, only if you can
select a specific exit node of your choosing, would it be relatively
close to what I think you're trying to accomplish.

You may yet be able to accomplish what you wish with OpenVPN and the
'ip' or 'route' commands, but that's probably best handled at
http://askubuntu.com/ instead.

Thanks

2014-01-06 Thread Mark Sapiro
I have looked at this a bit more deeply, and while all I said in comment
2 is correct, there is another issue. Essentially all the issues
reported by check_perms are innocuous and just reflect differences
between the Debian way and standard GNU Mailman, these fixes

/var/lib/mailman/archives/private bad group (has: www-data, expected list)
(fixing)
/var/lib/mailman/archives/private/mailman.mbox bad group (has: www-data,
expected list) (fixing)
/var/lib/mailman/archives/private/mailman bad group (has: www-data, expected
list) (fixing)
/var/lib/mailman/archives/private/mailman/index.html bad group (has: www-data,
expected list) (fixing)

will break public archive access. This is because the standard
recommended ownership and mode for /var/lib/mailman/archives/private
would be

drwxrws--- www-data list

but the Debian way is

drwxrws--- list www-data

While this might work, check_perms will change it to

drwxrws--- list list

which won't allow the web server to access public archives. See the
Warning at http://www.list.org/mailman-install/node9.html for more
detail.

The bottom line is the standard check_perms should not be run against
the Debian/Ubuntu package. Debian should either drop check_perms from
the package or fix it to follow the Debian way.

[Bug 1266343] Re: Sennheiser USB headset not listed as device in aplay -l

Try different USB ports. I've seen USB audio devices misbehave when
plugged into USB ports that Linux has marked as USB 1.1 speed *even if
the port is actually capable of 2.0 or greater).

[Bug 1266378] [NEW] GeForce GT 520 video card: no usb after suspend

2014-01-06 Thread pieter k
Public bug reported:

With the new 3.11 kernel I have this issue: after suspending both my
(usb) keybord and my (usb) mouse are out.

Ubuntu (13.10 64 bit) and Kubuntu (13.10 64 bit) behave in this way. I
removede the video card and with the on-board (very basic Nvidia too)
device it worked ok. The 3.12 and 3.13 kernels brought no relief. With
the 12.04.3 the GeForce GT 520 gives me no problems.

Also when I SWITCH OFF all desktop effects in Kubuntu everything works
fine with the GT 520.

[Bug 1266378] Re: GeForce GT 520 video card: no usb after suspend

2014-01-06 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1266378/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 1266395] [NEW] Wireless disabled on boot HP 6530b.

2014-01-06 Thread Stephen Matin
Public bug reported:

What I expected to happen:

The wireless to be enabled after a reboot.

What happened insteed:

The wireless on my laptop a HP 6530b running Ubuntu 13.10 will be
disabled at boot.

The rfkill list shows the following output after every restart.

stephenm@mcr-pc-29334:~$ rfkill list all
0: phy0: Wireless LAN
Soft blocked: no
Hard blocked: yes
1: hp-wifi: Wireless LAN
Soft blocked: yes
Hard blocked: no
2: hp-bluetooth: Bluetooth
Soft blocked: yes
Hard blocked: no

The wireless has to be manually enabled by clicking the network icon in
the top bar and checking enable wifi the wireless will then connect.

Possible problem with hp-wmi kernel module.

Seems other people have had this issue, found this on ask.ubuntu

[Bug 1220146] Re: Need support for new Ralink Wifi card - Mediatek 7630 [14c3:7630]

2014-01-06 Thread Himanshu Bhange
I am documenting my research ( my futile attempts to solve this problem)
1)

I have downloaded drivers from
http://www.mediatek.com/_en/07_downloads/01_windows.php?sn=501

and followed procedure in the below thread
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1958059

i worked worked with 2 drivers( build and attached the .ko )
 i) RT2860PCI/mPCI/CB/PCIe(RT2760/RT2790/RT2860/RT2890)
 ii) RT3290 PCIe

2) I also tried wot work with Ndiswrapper using
PCIe(RT2790/RT309X/RT35X2/RT539X/RT3290/MT7630) driver and followed
ubuntu guidlines to use Ndiswrapper

In both the cases Driver Module gets loaded but nothing happens( i have
blacklisted the original driver)

Thanks!!

[Bug 1266400] [NEW] Apache2 fails to start with libapache2-mod-fcgid: No such file or directory: mod_fcgid

2014-01-06 Thread Stephen
Public bug reported:

When I upgraded to saucy, Apache2 failed to start with the full error in
/var/log/apache2/error_log:

[Sun Jan 05 07:32:52.418401 2014] [fcgid:emerg] [pid 15690:tid
3074378304] (2)No such file or directory: mod_fcgid: Can't create shared
memory for size 1167812 bytes

This appears to be because the configuration directive for SharememPath
used by mod_fcgid is not set correctly in the configuration files.
That variable needs to be set to a directory that is created and empty.
Such a directory seems to exist:
/var/lib/apache2/module/enabled_by_admin/fcgid

I was able to add this to my Apache configuration to solve the issue:

IfModule mod_fcgid.c
  SharememPath /var/lib/apache2/module/enabled_by_admin/fcgid
/IfModule

This SharememPath setting should be made by default in /etc/apache2
/mods-available/fcgid.conf

I've got this problem as well today. Of course the affected package is
older version(1.2.2-1ubuntu2) than fix released
version(1.2.2-1ubuntu3), but as a workaround you can use the dpkg
--force-overwrite --install command.

[Bug 1266233] Re: Ubuntu 13.10 fails to load desktop after frecad dependencies installed

2014-01-06 Thread bill
Tried installing the above and the system crashed completely. Icouldn't
even load nautilus. Tried ctrl-alt-f1 followed by nautilus command with
no luck this time. Tried ctrl-alt-f7 followed by ctrl-alt-t but no
terminal. Rebooted and tried recovery options but was unanable to access
the internet this time just kept getting error messages. Tried to
reinstall keeping the programs i'd installed but this failed also and
still no internet. I managed to get a very low res gui but no mouse or
touchpad and no ninternet. I've reloaded ubuntu alongside the original
installation so i can contact you. I tried to copy the log files from
the firsrt installation but got the message i didn't have sufficient
rights to access them. Maybe you can help me to do so. Also not able to
download python-apport to be able to send info due to lack of internet
which i access with 3 mobile. I've been using freecad for some time now
and i've never had this problem before. Hope you can help me.

Thanks very much if you can.

an Ubuntu bug though.

to force the screen locking to on?

You should be able to follow the instruction on

lockdown.html.en and https://help.gnome.org/admin/system-admin-

2014-01-06 Thread Iain Lane
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1259326 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1259326

It doesn't do that.

It's merely a client of system-image's D-Bus API, which performs the
download and causes the update to be applied. system-image is the place
where suspend should be inhibited, IMO (unless the s-i developers think
that each consumer should do this itself?).

[Bug 1261723] Re: e1000e problem, system either reboots instead of power off or disables WOL

2014-01-06 Thread Cs-gon
Some additional information:

I tested the latest e1000e driver from sf.net on other hardware (Lenovo
T61), which is in use here too. The T61s didn't show the reboot instead
of power off before, with the e1000e driver, that is included in the
kernels mentioned above. However they do show the problem with the
e1000e driver from sf.net (version 2.5.4).

Maybe in 1 out of 10 cases the notebook is able to power off, and then
WOL works too. But in the other cases the notebook just reboots.

So it seems the driver from sf.net doesn't really solve the problem, but
somehow only changes some conditions under which the bug is triggered.

I have just tried to boot the version you have linked to. It produces the

Sorry Johannes
