I can confirm this problem and wonder if there is any 'real' solution ?
After upgrading to 13.10 there was no problem, until log rotate.
Previous files had 644 for root:adm, now 640 for root:adm
The cron-job for awstats runs as www-data as mention above.
This cause error message when job runs:

lxc-start-ephemeral doesn't attach to /dev/console but to /dev/tty1 which is why you don't see the boot messsages or that error. Unfortunately there isn't a great deal we can do about this in LXC, the best fix is to change the upstart job to only start with and not- container. A better fix would be to check whether things can be written to the device but that's trickier to do right and obviously the best fix would be to have a device namespace so we wouldn't have that kind of problem to begin with. Yes, I never thought of it as an LXC bug in the first place. Hi, I had the same problem. Tested a lot. My solution to passthrough usb
devices to a windows 7 x64 guest:
parameter part:

host,vendorid=0x{},productid=0x{},id=hostdev0,bus=usb.0
I also tried the device
piix4-usb-uhci
instead of usb-ehci
piix4-usb-uhci caused the Code 10 error in the windows device manager.
lsusb will give you a list of plugged in usb devices. eg.
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub
Bus 004 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0003 Linux Foundation 3.0 root hub
1d6b:0002
and
1d6b:0003
are vendorid:prouctid
replace {} with the ids and it should work. I tested it with
- ssd usb 3.0 drive
- retail usb seagate usb 2.0 hdd drive.

followup: my understanding is there are a bunch of usb interfaces: uhci is usb 1.0 ehci is usb 2.0 xhci is usb 3.0 … -device piix3-usb-uhci will create an usb 1.0 interface. Can confirm that this is NOT resolved in Saucy running 3.11.0-15-generic. My computer is a Sony Vaio E Series laptop, model number SVE14A26CGS. Fan runs fine and responds to temperature changes upon initial boot but after suspend and then wake the fan goes to 100% and stays there until I reboot. I can confirm this problem and wonder if there is any 'real' solution ?
After upgrading to 13.10 there was no problem, until log rotate.
Previous files had 644 for root:adm, now 640 for root:adm
The cron-job for awstats runs as www-data as mention above.
This cause error message when job runs:

Create/Update database for config /etc/awstats/awstats.conf by AWStats

From data in log file /var/log/apache2/access.log...

Just some additional info that might help narrowing down the cause. I see this same effect on a machine running Arch Linux. On this machine I use urxvt on top of the i3 window manager. (So not Gnome, KDE or Unity). Public bug reported: Hello, On a fresh and updated install of Kubuntu 14.04 LTS (developpement version) with yesterday's CD image on a computer which has nVidia Optimus, I installed the nvidia proprietary driver with the jockey-kde graphical user interface. It did install nvidia-settings. However, when trying to switch between graphic cards with the Prime settings from the nvidia-settings interface, it printed a Traceback relative to some gtk dependency missing. Installing the python-gtk2 package solved the problem. Maybe python-gtk2 should be a dependency of nvidia-xsettings?
