[Bug 993259] Re: ypbind does not start on boot

2014-03-14 Thread KrautOS
It's still an issue in the upcoming LTS release. We really need to fix
it, as there are still a lot of company where they run a secured NIS
installations.

As it's somehow an DNS issue, there should be something like a respawn
from upstart everytime there is a network change. What i also
experienced is that doesn't make a difference i we change for
YPBINDARGS=-no-dbus to YPBINDARGS= in /etc/default/nis, as this is
ypbind's connection to NM.

[Bug 1246236] Re: pxe boot from maas fails due to time out

2014-03-14 Thread Adam Collard
Are you still seeing this problem?

I'm seeing this problem now. For me it only started occurring after
upgrading MAAS from 1.5+bzr1977-0ubuntu3 to 1.5+bzr1977-0ubuntu4. MAAS
is no longer able to PXE boot.

To rule out any upgrade/configuration concerns I purged and reinstalled
MAAS (wiping out the database, all configuration files, downloaded
ephemerals etc. and essentially going again from scratch). This landed
me in exactly the same situation.

I was adviced to try rebooting the MAAS server (region and cluster

brought it back :/

[Bug 1292433] Re: cinder volume deletion fails with ceph backend

2014-03-14 Thread Edward Hope-Morley
I have seen this sort of error previously when the name supplied to
rbd.Image is unicode formatted (or non-utf8). We should call
strutils.safe_encode() on the name to be safe like in
cinder.backup.drivers.ceph.

[Bug 1178933] Re: Time drifting when set to update Automatically from Internet

2014-03-14 Thread C de-Avillez
@Colin Law: ntpdate and ntp are both provided by the same source package
-- ntp.

Frankly, I do not know why we still spend time with ntpdate -- this
program has been deprecated by the NTP maintainers. Additionally, for
machines that stay on, ntp is required (otherwise time will indeed
slowly drift). ntpdate was useful when most users would disconnect when
done; nowadays a LOT of users keep the machines on.

Also, ntp should be installed by default on Ubuntu Server. It is not.

Quick solution: sudo apt-get install ntp. Then disregard ntpdate (both
will be installed, but ntp trumps ntpdate).

@Yolanda Robla: please always explain, in a comment, why you are
changing status, importance, or affected packages. It makes life much
more easier for all.

[Bug 1292548] [NEW] Standalone Server: Update from Samba 2:3.6.18-1ubuntu3.1 (saucy) to 2:4.1.3+dfsg-2ubuntu3 (trusty) breaks access to the server

2014-03-14 Thread Raoul Bhatia
Public bug reported:

I have been using Samba as a standalone server since many years and have
successfully gone through multiple Samba upgrades.

This week, I upgraded from Ubuntu 13.10 (saucy) to Ubuntu 14.04 (trusty).
This came with an upgrade from Samba 2:3.6.18-1ubuntu3.1 (saucy) to
2:4.1.3+dfsg-2ubuntu3 (trusty).
(NOTE: I did not use the samba4 package but was still sticking to Samba 3 in
Ubuntu saucy)

After the update, I wasn't able to access the shares any more.

smbclient -L localhost -U% / smbclient -L localhost -U user resulted in
various errors, including
* tree connect failed: NT_STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED
* (from session setup) not permitted to access this share (IPC$)
* NT_STATUS_LOGON_FAILURE
* string_to_sid: SID IPC_ is not in a valid format

I was neither able to properly browse the server/shares via smbclient nor via
Windows 7 Ultimate nor Windows 8.1.

However, I was able to directly access a share from a Linux shell using
smbclient -U user //server/share-c ls.

Not even purging samba, all related configuration, all folders,
including /etc/samba, /var/cache/samba, /var/spool/samba,
/var/lib/samba, and re-installing samba (Version 2:4.1.3+dfsg-2ubuntu3
from trusty) did the trick.

Only after installing all related packages from Debian jessie (Version
2:4.1.5+dfsg-1), everything worked out of the box again.

Thus, I think that something in the most recent Ubuntu Samba package
might be broken and kindly ask you to investigate, as there will be
several users who will upgrade and stick to this LTS release.

Thanks,
Raoul

PS. I did not try Samba 4.0 (Package samba4*) on Ubuntu saucy and
therefore cannot tell if these are working as expected.

[Bug 1246236] Re: pxe boot from maas fails due to time out

2014-03-14 Thread Adam Collard
So in my case, the problem was PEBKAC and networking. Specifically I had
two interfaces on my MAAS server that were connected to the same
network, both had equally weighted routes to the gateway. Only one of
them was configured in MAAS for the cluster controller. It was
(seemingly) by chance that the second NIC was the one that the other
nodes were trying to TFTP off of.

It'd be lovely if MAAS would report this kind of stuff... Hey, I can

[Bug 1178933] Re: Time drifting when set to update Automatically from Internet

2014-03-14 Thread Colin Law
@C de-Avillez Are you sure ntpdate is in the package ntp? I don't see
it in [1], and it /is/ in the package ntpdate

However the point of this bug is that it is misleading to have a
selection Update [time] Automatically from Internet which does not, in
fact, update automatically.

2014-03-14 Thread James Page
This is actually just a problem with Icehouse horizon on Ubuntu 12.04
via the cloud archive due to the bump in Apache 2.2-2.4

We can safely revert the change to the Apache configuration that causes
this issue.

 Bug description:
The keystone maintainer script endeavours to check whether the
sql_connection string is set in keystone.conf; however it searches for
   the wrong string:

   if ! grep -q sql_connection /etc/keystone/keystone.conf
   then
   su -s /bin/sh -c 'exec keystone-manage db_sync' keystone
   fi

The connection configuration uses the key 'connection' and inline with
other packages, I think we should only be doing a db_sync if the
connection is the default sqllite one (see glance for reference).

This is quite important - 2013.2.2 adds an index to an existing table
and takes a long time, resulting in quite a long outage; also running
from multiple locations might be bad as well.

[Bug 1292648] [NEW] cloud-init should check/format Azure empheral disks each boot

2014-03-14 Thread Ben Howard
Public bug reported:

On Windows Azure, the ephemeral disk should be treated as ephemeral per
boot, not per instance.

Microsoft has informed us that under the following conditions an ephemeral disk
may disappear:
1. The user resizes the instance
2. A fault causes the instance to move from one physical host to another
3. A machine is shutdown and then started again

Essentially, on Azure, the ephemeral disk is extremely ephemeral. Users
who hit any of the above situations are discovering that /mnt is mount
with their default NTFS file system.

[Bug 291161] Re: Invalid multi values domain string generated by network manager

2014-03-14 Thread Matt Keys
I ran into this error on a different (CentOS 6 x86_64) system. Simply
executing nslookup would return the error nslookup: parse of
/etc/resolv.conf failed. Upon close inspection of the contents nothing
was out of order. Permissions and ownership also looked good and I was
executing nslookup as root. It was then I noticed lsattr
/etc/resolv.conf was showing the e flag set.

The customer had copied resolv.conf over from a different server (also
ext4 formatted). I believe it may be that this attribute was set on the
previous filesystem, and when moved to the new ext4 file system the
extent mappings were incorrect, which caused the read/parse problem.
Since you can't remove the attribute with chattr I was able to resolve
the issue by simply copying the contents, deleting the old
/etc/resolv.conf, creating a new /etc/resolv.conf, then pasting in the
contents from clipboard and saving.

[Bug 1178933] Re: Time drifting when set to update Automatically from Internet

2014-03-14 Thread C de-Avillez
@Colin Law: ndtpdate is provided by the same *source* package (which is
what I wrote above ;-). You are looking at the *binary* NTP package
(which is also provided by source package ntp).

Although a bit pedantic, with ntpdate time *is* automatically updated.
The problem is that it does not keep on updating (unless the network
interfaces are cycled). But I agree with you, it is, at least,
misleading.

The complete solution is to abandon ntpdate usage. Everybody gets to use
ntp. There are a few bugs on ntp/ntpdate about that. One day we will get
it done.

Add security_group_rule to objects registry

This adds the security_group_rule module to the objects registry,
which allows a service to make sure that all of its objects are
registered before any could be received over RPC.

We don't really have a test for any of these because of the nature
of how they're imported. Refactoring this later could provide some
incremental steps to making this more testable.

[Bug 1292728] [NEW] Sync request

2014-03-14 Thread Matthew Phipps
Public bug reported:

Please sync unixodbc (2.3.1-1) from Debian unstable. I recently (March
2014) had a conversation with UnixODBC's project lead about the QT GUI,
and he responded that he hadn't worked on it in years, which is true:
the release used in Ubuntu is from 2008...

Dignity aside, there seem to be some non-trivial bug fixes and
functionality changes as well.

unixodbc (2.3.1-1) unstable; urgency=low

  * New upstream release. Closes: #650267.
- Drop changes to exe/isql.c, exe/odbcinst.c, exe/iusql.c, fixed
  differently upstream.
- Drop libgtrtst library from libodbc1; this is technically an ABI
change, but nothing has ever used this library so we're not changing
  the package name.
- Since the library ABI has not changed in Debian (ever), keep the
package names the same and provide backwards-compatible symlinks to
avoid an unnecessary library transition; and update the symbols/shlibs
to make it clear the old versions of the library don't satisfy these
  dependencies any longer.
  * Bump the build dependency on debhelper to 9.
  * Fix LDFLAGS handling so that we pick up hardening flags properly.
Closes: #717257.
  * Fix debian/copyright to comply with copyright-format 1.0.
  * Update to Standards-Version 3.9.4.
  * Fix the section of the odbcinst package. Closes: #663077.
  * Update the odbcinst manpage to document all the current options.
Closes: #709968

[Bug 1276766] [NEW] 'status startpar-bridge' fails with 'status: Unknown parameter: JOB'

2014-03-14 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

As the summary says: trying to run 'status startpar-bridge' fails with
the output 'status: Unknown parameter: JOB' and exit code 1. This is a
problem when using puppet as running 'puppet resource service' will fail
because of this error. This is on a very fresh, up-to-date Ubuntu 13.10
(Kubuntu, technically).

[Bug 1276766] Re: 'status startpar-bridge' fails with 'status: Unknown parameter: JOB'

2014-03-14 Thread Steve Langasek
This is a bug in puppet, then; there's no reason that puppet should be
trying to call 'status startpar-bridge', and the fact that it's doing so
is a bug in the puppet code in question.

** Package changed: sysvinit (Ubuntu) = puppet (Ubuntu)

[Bug 1292360] [NEW] On reopening an odt file, random paragraphs revert to Default Style paragraph style

2014-03-14 Thread joehill
Public bug reported:

Since installing the most recent PPA version of LibreOffice writer in
Saucy, I find that whenever I close and then reopen an odt file, one or
more random paragraphs have been changed from whatever style they were
(Text Body, Heading 2, etc.) to Default Style. Each time I open
the same document, a different paragraph or random paragraphs are in
Default Style. I never use Default Style, not even in my templates, so
I'm certain this is not a case of me just forgetting to format things.
And it's not a case of moving from docx to odt--I'm simply closing a
file then reopening it in the same format.

[Bug 1292365] [NEW] fglrx 2:13.251-0ubuntu1: fglrx kernel module failed to build

2014-03-14 Thread CBrider
Public bug reported:

I have just installed 14.04 today. I attempted to install the AMD
drivers from their site (stable verison.) These appeared to install, but
there were issues, so i removed them and attempted to install the fglrx-

amdccle, fglrxinfo do not work. Bash cannot find these files.

2014-03-14 Thread th3flyboy
Update: I have installed the newest Nvidia beta driver from Nvidia's web
site and the problem went away. In order for this to be fixed, the
newest beta Nvidia driver needs to be added to the repo. The newest
driver also includes a fix for a security vulnerability as well (no CVE
yet). Please add the newest Nvidia beta driver to the repos.

[Bug 1207812] Re: [FFe] Update libimobiledevice to support iOS 7, fix Trust Prompt Looping

2014-03-14 Thread Timo Jyrinki
Additional notes for Feature Freeze Exception consideration.

Build log at https://launchpadlibrarian.net/169329079/buildlog_ubuntu-
trusty-armhf.libimobiledevice_1.1.5%2Bgit20140313.bafe6a9e-
0ubuntu1~trusty1~test1_UPLOADING.txt.gz (showing this one simply to show
it also built fine for armhf)

Summary of changes in the git snapshot after 1.1.5, from upstream NEWS
file, in addition to iOS7 working:

---cut---
Version 1.1.6
~

* Development release
* Changes:
  - Security: Fix insecure use of the /tmp directory (CVE-2013-2142)
  - A bunch of memory leak fixes
  - Python: Various fixes and support for with statement for AfcFile class
  - Python: Add Afc2Client class to allow jailbroken filesystem access
  - Fix linking issue with newer libtool as reported for Ubuntu
  - Fix stuck thread in idevicesyslog which broke quit from within the tool
  - Add syslog_relay service implementation and use it in idevicesyslog
  - API: Add instproxy_client_get_path_for_bundle_identifier() helper
  - API: Add afc_dictionary_free() helper
  - Move thread, socket, debug and userpref code to common source directory
in order to improve code reuse
  - Fix broken byte order detection in configure.ac which could lead to broken
AFC protocol communication on platforms without endian.h (Raspberry PI)
* API is UNSTABLE
---cut---

There have been 146 commits to trunk after 1.1.5, attaching a list of
them.

I have personally done only packaging and installation/upgrade testing,
while the functionality testing is provided by the community having iOS
devices in these comments. Matthias helpfully called for additional
testing so I hope we have a good testing coverage.

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libimobiledevice/+bug/1207812/+attachment/4023266/+files/libimobiledevice_gitchanges.txt

** Description changed:

+ The latest libimobiledevice release 1.1.5 is a year old and does not
+ support iOS7 devices. Most iOS devices have been updated to iOS7 by now,
+ so currently the library is broken in functionality for most users. The
+ git snapshot has been tested to work, but there seems to be no new
+ upstream release being prepared for the time being.
+
+ The new git snapshot includes several fixes, including the security fix
+ that was previously patched on top of 1.1.5 in Ubuntu.
+
+ Packaging branch merge request attached to this bug report.

[Bug 1292373] Crash report cannot be processed

2014-03-14 Thread Apport retracing service
Thank you for your report!

However, processing it in order to get sufficient information for the
developers failed (it does not generate a useful symbolic stack trace). This
might be caused by some outdated packages which were installed on your system
at the time of the report:

outdated debug symbol package for libfreetype6: package version
2.5.2-1ubuntu2 dbgsym version 2.5.2-1ubuntu1

Please upgrade your system to the latest package versions. If you still
encounter the crash, please file a new report.

Thank you for your understanding, and sorry for the inconvenience!
