[Bug 1243476] Re: Apache 2.4 transition broke the web interface

2014-03-21 Thread Jonathan Pasquier
Same problem here (Ubuntu Gnome 13.10)
matt workaround did work for me though.

When installing backuppc, I got these 3 errors (that looks unrelated, but hey,
who knows):
adduser : Attention ! Le répertoire personnel « /var/lib/backuppc »
n'appartient pas à l'utilisateur que vous êtes en train de créer.
chown: impossible d'accéder à «/var/lib/backuppc/log/*»: Aucun fichier ou
dossier de ce type
AH00558: apache2: Could not reliably determine the server's fully qualified
domain name, using 127.0.1.1. Set the 'ServerName' directive globally to
suppress this message

Thanks matt for the workaround!

[Bug 1295498] Re: [SRU] bootable disk isn't found for instance with 8 disks

2014-03-21 Thread James Page
1.7.3 requires the following pick from the 1.7.3-stable branch:

http://code.coreboot.org/p/seabios/source/commit/84c97cc0b3efd9d521a22d5c1f528902bd670c15/

** Description changed:

- instances with more than 8 data volumes failed to boot and stuck after
- the POST screen, with the message no bootable device.
+ [Impact]
+ Its not possible to boot qemu-kvm instances in OpenStack nova with more that
8 disks attached to the instance.
+
+ [Test Case]
+ Create an instance in nova, create and attach 8 cinder volumes to instance,
reboot - instance fails to find boot disk.
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+ Minimal, this fix is in trusty (1.7.4) and is part of the 1.7.3.1 release of
seabios.

Serge: Precise has 4.0.3-14ubuntu8 and u7 and u8 just fix two crashes

Or do you think it's not an issue in screen but elsewhere (terminal

[Bug 1290743] Re: [FFE] Pull Xen-4.4 into Trusty

2014-03-21 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package xen - 4.4.0-0ubuntu3

---
xen (4.4.0-0ubuntu3) trusty; urgency=low

  * Fixing up changelog history and preparing for FFE (LP: #1290743).

xen (4.4.0-0ubuntu2) trusty; urgency=low

  * debian/patches/tools-ocaml-disable-test.patch: This disables the ocaml
test build for now until linking issues are resolved.
  * debian/xen-utils-common.xen.init: Write domid for dom0 into xenstore
(now required).

xen (4.4.0-0ubuntu1) trusty; urgency=low

  * New upstream release (Xen.4.4)
  * Refreshed patches:
- debian/patches/tools-libxc-abiname.diff
- debian/patches/tools-libxl-abiname.diff
- debian/patches/tools-libxl-prefix.diff
  * debian/rules.real: Force xend to be built.
  * debian/rules.real: For utils_arch installation move binaries from
usr/sbin/ to usr/lib/xen-version/bin. Several that used to go into
the private bin directory moved to the public sbin directory.
Not ideal but quicker to do without side-effects.
  * debian/rules.real: Hypervisor has no .gz type on armhf.
  * debian/control, debian/rules.gen: Manually update version from 4.3 to 4.4.
  * debian/control: Add build dependency for libfdt-dev on armhf.
  * debian/control: Only depend on qemu-system-x86 for i386 and amd64 builds.
  * debian/*: Also rename several versioned packaging files.
  * debian/tree/xen-utils-common/usr/share/xen-utils-common/default.xen:
Add comment about toolstack names and make xl the default.

[Bug 1287147] Re: [FFe] juju-core 1.18/2.0

2014-03-21 Thread James Page
I'd like to push in juju-core 1.17.6 as an interim point release as it
resolves a number of high/critical bugs (some of which are impacting on
OpenStack CI testing).

This includes all fixes from:

https://launchpad.net/juju-core/+milestone/1.17.5
https://launchpad.net/juju-core/+milestone/1.17.6

Note: I declined 1.17.5 for trusty upload as it removed support for
juju-mongodb - this is now restored in 1.17.6.

Changelog:

juju-core (1.17.6-0ubuntu1) UNRELEASED; urgency=medium

  * New upstream point release, including fixes for:
- br0 not bought up by cloud-init with MAAS provider (LP: #1271144).
- ppc64el enablement for juju/lxc (LP: #1273769).
- juju userdata should not restart networking (LP: #1248283).
- error detecting hardware characteristics (LP: #1276909).
- juju instances not including the default security group (LP: #1129720).
- juju bootstrap does not honor https_proxy (LP: #1240260).
  * d/control,rules: Drop BD on bash-completion, install bash-completion
direct from upstream source code.
  * d/rules: Set HOME prior to generating man pages.
  * d/control: Drop alternative dependency on mongodb-server; juju now only
works on trusty with juju-mongodb.

Testing:
Verified local provider usage on 14.04
Verified MAAS provider on 14.04 deploying 14.04
Verified OpenStack provider on 14.04 deploying 14.04

I specifically confirmed that the juju-mongodb package is being used in
all of these test cases.

Note that upstream also do CI against all providers prior to release.

Build log: see attached.

Also an update on the upstream juju-core release schedule between now

1.18.0 is planned for w/c 24th March

A further 1.20.0 (might be renamed 2.0) release is planned for the first
week in April (just before final freeze).

At the point where we jump to 1.18.0, I'm proposing not uploading
interim dev released (1.19.x) so we have a stable series in 14.04 at all
times.

[Bug 1292234] Re: qcow2 image corruption in trusty (qemu 1.7 and 2.0 candidate)

I don't, I just used the options that our uvt command uses. I downgraded

try some new test?

Re: [Bug 1295620] [NEW] Large numbers of /var/log/upstart logs

2014-03-21 Thread Serge Hallyn
This may be a leftover vestige of bug 1065589, or a dup of
460925 - it depends on whether the upstart job is being started
in the container - which seems unlikely as other upstart messages
do end up in the container - or on the host, due to a udev misfire.
The latter seems more likely.

The message says:

ifdown: interface veth9HRJRD not configured

Is there something we can do about this in ifupdown? Why should it
bother to spit this out?

[Bug 1295687] [NEW] debian template parses -c|--clean incorrectly

2014-03-21 Thread Robie Basak
Public bug reported:

Usage message from /usr/share/lxc/templates/lxc-debian:

$1 -h|--help -p|--path=path [-a|--arch] [-r|--release=release]
[-c|--clean]

Parsing:

-c|--clean) clean=$2; shift 2;;

This eats any parameter after -c, which isn't defined to take a
parameter.

Failure case: sudo lxc-create -n sid -t debian -- -c -r sid

Expected behaviour: create a template based on sid

Actual behaviour: a template based on wheezy got created

Workaround: sudo lxc-create -n sid -t debian -- -r sid -c

2014-03-21 Thread Stéphane Graber
Moving to ifupdown, if the upstart job indeed attempts a ifup and fails
with an error, this is something we should fix (probably by using
ifquery to check if the interface is actually configured).

I'll take a look.

sigh, maybe.

Right, that's what I'm using.

Have others on your team (who are not on the same thinkpad model :) seen
this as well? Have you seen it on different types of machines? Does
it happen more often if the machine is already working hard?

I wonder if I can reproduce it manually with qemu-img and qemu-nbd.

[Bug 1287147] Re: [FFe] juju-core 1.18/2.0

The HA support has not landed in 1.17 as yet (I believe that will come
for 1.18 but more likely 2.0); the juju-core team have been working on
supporting other archs such as ppc64el and arm64. The ppc64el stuff has
been tested with the local provider and LXC.

the target libvirt spews out a kvm: Features 0x10d4 unsupported.
Allowed features: 0x71000454 and the guest machine becomes non
responsive (feels like a disk issue) - a hard shutdown (aka destroy) -
on the target - is required, which makes the whole live migration effort
a bit silly :-S

[Bug 1267393] Re: [MIR] juju-core, juju-mongodb, gccgo-go, gccgo-4.9, golang

2014-03-21 Thread James Page
Basically, the decision had been taken in Oakland last November that
gccgo is the toolchain Ubuntu Engineering would support on the client
and the foundations and security teams don't consider gc supportable
from a distro standpoint due to the static linking issue.

Ubuntu Server also took the same decision; we wanted a single toolchain
to work across all target architectures and gccgo was the only option
that could provide this; however after alot of work to a) get everything
functional on gccgo and b) alot of testing including at scale, the
performance of gccgo was just not at the same level as gc; The decision
to prefer gc for architectures where it was supported was made based on
this process. We have to use gccgo on ppc64el and arm64 right now as
this is still the only option.

I appreciate that the static linking feature of gc does not fit with the
distribution model generally; I'd encourage people to read the MIR in
detail - specifically the way that juju server binaries are distributed
which is also different as I want all interested parties/stakeholders to
understand the full facts of what we are proposing for main inclusion.

[Bug 1292234] Re: qcow2 image corruption in trusty (qemu 1.7 and 2.0 candidate)

2014-03-21 Thread Jamie Strandboge
Did you try with the image on
https://chinstrap.canonical.com/~jamie/lp1292234/? I was only able to
trigger it by using an old image, creating the snapshot, starting it,
apt-get dist-upgrading, cleanly shutting down, then deleting the
snapshot and creating another with the same name. Using a fresh install
or a too new image doesn't do it for me (I guess enough has to happen in
the guest to trigger it).

Ie:
$ virsh snapshot-create-as forhallyn-trusty-amd64 pristine uvt snapshot
$ virsh snapshot-current --name forhallyn-trusty-amd64
pristine
$ virsh start forhallyn-trusty-amd64
$ virsh snapshot-list forhallyn-trusty-amd64 # this is showing as shutoff after
start, this might be different with qemu 1.5

in guest:
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
780 upgraded...
shutdown -h now

$ virsh snapshot-delete forhallyn-trusty-amd64 pristine --children
$ virsh snapshot-create-as forhallyn-trusty-amd64 pristine uvt snapshot

$ virsh start forhallyn-trusty-amd64 # this command works, but there is
often disk corruption

[Bug 1295521] [NEW] cannot shutdown/suspend/restart from the GUI

2014-03-21 Thread Julien Aubin
Public bug reported:

Hi,

After I upgraded to Ubuntu Trusty, I've seen that it is no longer
possible to suspend/shutdown/restart my system from the GUI. In other
words within lightdm buttons to do so are grayed out, and within KDE it
is the same. I had the same bug in Saucy beta and the culprit was the
login component, and after its upgrade the issue was fixed.

[Bug 1290337] Re: [Lenovo ThinkPad W530] I/O slow down

2014-03-21 Thread Michisteiner
yet another observation: yesterday i run all day with the standard 3.11
kernel with all 16GB RAM. At the end of the day i also got in the state
where apt-get update took minutes (tens of them). Interestingly, also,
the vm.cache_drop trick did not seem to have any speed-up effect on it.
Also note that io-activity accoding to iostat was 100% even though it
was so ridiculously slow (and no other noticable activity, e.g.,
according to iotop).

Having finally found an (ugly way) to get nvidia working again i run
3.14 again since yesterday evening. And i do see now the apt-get update
anomaly (9 minutes for package read) also on 13.14. During that time
according iostat the avgrq-size seemed also to be below 10; avgqu-size
fluctuated between 5 and 20 and utilization 20-60%. doing dd
measurements as above also was slow (15MB/s) and this time
vm.cache_drop trick did not have any positive impact here, contrary to
the experiment reported earlier where a /sbin/sysctl -w
vm.drop_caches=2 sped it up to a normal 90MB/s.

BTW: just in case it is relevant, i use a LUKS encrypted LVM with ext4
FS on the encrypted partitions.

From the error code = -22 (#define EINVAL 22 /* Invalid

We will need someone who is specified in sata protocol for further

[Bug 1295526] [NEW] disable touchpad while typing doesn't work

2014-03-21 Thread Lex Ross
Public bug reported:

Disable touchpad while typing checkbox in System Settings does not
work on my Asus F5N laptop. The button to disable touchpad does not work
as well. As a workaround I use syndaemon -i 1 -K -d command as per
Ubuntu help page https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SynapticsTouchpad/
but it does not fix the issue with the said chechbox and hardware
button. I guess it still needs to access shared memory using SHMconfig
option in xorg.conf in which case it is the same bug that has been
around for 3 years starting from Ubuntu 11.10

[Bug 1243476] Re: Apache 2.4 transition broke the web interface

2014-03-21 Thread Jonathan Pasquier
Same problem here (Ubuntu Gnome 13.10)
matt workaround did work for me though.

When installing backuppc, I got these 3 errors (that looks unrelated, but hey,
who knows):
adduser : Attention ! Le répertoire personnel « /var/lib/backuppc »
n'appartient pas à l'utilisateur que vous êtes en train de créer.
chown: impossible d'accéder à «/var/lib/backuppc/log/*»: Aucun fichier ou
dossier de ce type
AH00558: apache2: Could not reliably determine the server's fully qualified
domain name, using 127.0.1.1. Set the 'ServerName' directive globally to
suppress this message

Thanks matt for the workaround!

[Bug 756317] Re: Captive portals may corrupt apt package lists

2014-03-21 Thread Monsta
Of course this is not fixed anywhere.

E: Encountered a section with no Package: header
E: Problem with MergeList
/var/lib/apt/lists/security.ubuntu.com_ubuntu_dists_saucy-security_main_i18n_Translation-en
E: The package lists or status file could not be parsed or opened.
E: _cache-open() failed, please report.

APT cannot recover from it automatically, and that is the serious
problem for the unsuspecting users: they have no idea that they need to
remove /var/lib/apt/lists/* manually and then update the package index
to make APT work again.

This problem happens so often these days that the Linux Mint developers
even had to add the Fix MergeList problem button to their software
sources management tool.

[Bug 1292438] Re: BETA 14.04 cant connect to PulseAudio server

2014-03-21 Thread Paul Konecny
I tihink, I've got the same problem.

Was running Kubuntu 14.04 as of 19th March 2014 and everything worked perfectly.
I then installed audacity to record something but it would only show the Splash
screen and hang there.

After that every program trying to access the soundcard would hang. Even
after several reboots. KDE then said Sound Device unavailable,
switching to Default. And the taskmanager would show 4 processes of
pulseaudio 2 of which were always active on harddrive.

Tried it with Xubuntu as well. Same Problem even without audacity
installed.

I've got a HP Elitebook 850 G1 with Intel / AMD hybrid graphics running with
Dynamic dGPU poweroff by default.
Could the dynamic switching be the problem?

Best regards!

[Bug 1295532] [NEW] resolving dependencies can take up large amounts of RAM

2014-03-21 Thread Rolf Leggewie
Public bug reported:

resolving complex dependencies such as when updating from one release to
the next can take up oodles of RAM. I've seen aptitude go up to 2GB of
RAM on a 2GB RAM and 2GB swap machine but it seems there really is no
boundary. I hope something can be done to prevent such runaway
situations.
