[Bug 1185756] Re: drbd8-utils not compatible with linux-lts-raring kernel in 12.04

2014-04-21 Thread Thomas Jagoditsch
Unfortunatly i had a maintainance-window today and upgraded the first node of
our crm/drbd based storage-cluster today.
everything done and went by the book but after reboot crm didnt have the
(slave) resources back up.
after researching and parsing logs i found this bug here which seems my exact
problem: drbdsetup will not work anymore and unfortunatly crm seems to use it
big time.

i get the same error message as simon ...

 root@storage0:~# drbdsetup show
Could not connect to 'drbd' generic netlink family

... and i find this message in syslog when i try to do a resource
cleanup for the drbd master/slave resources:

Apr 21 12:29:53 storage0 lrmd: [1141]: info: RA output:
(p_drbd_bigpool:0:stop:stderr) Could not connect to 'drbd' generic
netlink family

so i guess the thing is not resolved yet ...

[Bug 1310076] Re: lost connectivity to a node when using fastpath-installer with precise+hwe-s

maas/preseeds/curtin_userdata, in the maas source tree. This won't be
enough to fix the whole problem, so I am not marking the branch as
“fixing” this bug.

[Bug 1302963] Re: Calendar() class can not be initialized

2014-04-21 Thread Greg Lutostanski
parsedatetime has an optional dependency on a specific version python-
pyicu, which is not documented -- it seems that the current trusty
version 1.5-2ubuntu4 does not play nice.

Workaround is to explicity disable pyicu, for example use:

import parsedatetime.parsedatetime as pdtal = pdt.Calendar()
cal = pdt.Calendar(pdt.Constants(usePyICU=False))

I'll dig and see if I can come up with the exact pyicu version
dependency parsedatetime expects.

[Bug 1302963] Re: Calendar() class can not be initialized

2014-04-21 Thread bear
Technically I made it so that any version of PyICU will work but from
what I see of that bug it appears that something has changed in the
parameters.

Removing PyICU completely would break things for the folks who are using
parsedatetime for non-US languages - do you want me to fix this bug with
the most recent version of PyICU (or the version you tell me is needed
for Ubuntu?)

[Bug 1310149] Re: Puppet looking for update-alternatives in another path

That looks like a bug with the puppet-alternatives module. There is
already a github issue open at https://github.com/adrienthebo/puppet-
alternatives/pull/3 that looks like it covers this bug.

On Trusty, winbind version: 2:4.1.6+dfsg-1ubuntu2 returns groups with

[Bug 1310781] [NEW] bad bignum encoding for curve25519-sha256 at libssh.org

Public bug reported:

There's an occasional (one in 512 or so) key exchange failure in the
curve25519-sha256 key exchange method, which affects OpenSSH 6.5 and

distributors apply this patch:

  https://lists.mindrot.org/pipermail/openssh-unix-

We should issue this as an update for trusty.

[Bug 1310792] [NEW] dfree command is not working anymore in samba

2014-04-21 Thread Peter de Kraker
Public bug reported:

I have a ZFS On Linux setup as my main backup/fileserver that uses
RaidZ1 (similar to raid 5: 3 disks, 1 parity). Because Linux doesn't
show the free space correctly for the complete disk/mount point, the
disk space indicator on my Windows machine for this share gives the
wrong info. The solution in Samba 3 / Ubuntu 13.10 was to add a dfree
command = scriptname configuration option to smb.cnf that knew how to
figure out the correct disk space/usage. This was all working and the
total disk space was displayed correctly in Windows Explorer on the
client.

However, now after upgrading to 14.04, the diskspace suddenly gets
displayed all wrong again. I checked the script (it worked ok) and even
let it output 0 0 to see if it actually gets called by samba, but
nothing changed on the indicator of my windows machine. I did reboots of
the server, and the client, and nothing changed. I also changed the
dfree command to a invalid scriptname, and moved it from global to a
share section. Nothing worked.

Testparm gives no errors, so it looks like samba somehow just ignores
this parameter. Manpage for smb.conf shows that the dfree command
option is available.

Looks like a regression to me, and is frustrating, because I can't see
how much space I am using on my fileserver.

[Bug 1302963] Re: Calendar() class can not be initialized

2014-04-21 Thread Greg Lutostanski
Hi bear,

Good point, looks like disabling PyICU is not a good workaround then.

If we can get it to work with the python-pyicu version (1.5) currently
in trusty I think that would be best for now. I know its quite a bit
outdated, I will look into getting that updated to a more recent version
as well.

If getting it to work with 1.5 turns out to be a debacle, comment here
and we'll look for a better solution.

I am willing to test the changes on my end if need be.

BTW, this is such a useful package, I love it :). Thanks!

[Bug 1310846] [NEW] amt template gives up way too easily

2014-04-21 Thread Dustin Kirkland 
Public bug reported:

In my (extensive) experience with MAAS and AMT systems, the
etc/maas/templates/power/amt.template gives up way too easily, when AMT
doesn't respond.

In the current code, it tries the amttool command merely twice.

I find that the first invocation of the command is usually necessary to
nudge the AMT awake. The second one then usually succeeds, but it does
occasionally get dropped too.

Upping that retry count to ~10 actually makes AMT work about 95% of the
time, in my testing.

[Bug 1302963] Re: Calendar() class can not be initialized

2014-04-21 Thread Greg Lutostanski
I don't think you need to install pyicu-1.7, the released packages for
pyicu are at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pyicu

I can setup a ppa if needed. But if you are on trusty or saucy you should just
be able to:
apt-get install python-pyicu
and then go about seeing if a fix works.

What release are you testing on?

also, feel free to ping me on irc if desired.

[Bug 1301036] Re: openstack.common.db.sqlalchemy.migration utf8 table check issue on initial migration

2014-04-21 Thread Lee Thompson
I hit this issue on icehouse-rc2 for glance even though many of the
above patches are incorporated into the RPMs. Think it is still lurking
around somehow.

What got me around the problem was

# mysql -u root
mysql use glance;
mysql alter table migrate_version convert to character set utf8;
mysql exit;
# glance-manage db_sync
# /etc/init.d/openstack-glance-api restart
# /etc/init.d/openstack-glance-registry restart

[Bug 1310919] [NEW] pam_winbind krb5_ccache_type=FILE stopped working after 14.04 upgrade

2014-04-21 Thread styro
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu version: 14.04 AMD64
samba, winbind, libpam-winbind version: 2:4.1.6+dfsg-1ubuntu2

After upgrading to 14.04 from 13.10 I couldn't log in with any Active
Directory accounts.

After checking that Winbind itself worked (eg wbinfo and getent still
worked properly) and plain old Kerberos kinit still worked fine, it
seemed like it had to be a PAM problem.

This is from /var/log/auth.log after enabling debug and debug_state on
pam_winbind and trying to log in via ssh (local logins had the same
problem both via the console and lightdm)

*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1069133 ***

Reviewing the files from your upgrade attempt you seem to have enabled
the xorg-edgers-ppa. This will prevent the upgrade as that PPA contains
different versions of packages essential to Ubuntu. The page,
https://launchpad.net/~xorg-edgers/+archive/ppa, contains details on to
how to revert to the official Xorg packages. Thanks.

[Bug 1310354] Re: package nfs-kernel-server 1:1.2.8-2ubuntu2 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 22

2014-04-21 Thread Steve Langasek
This shows that you had a locally-modified /etc/exports (which is
reasonable), and a new version of the default /etc/exports became
available; and you apparently chose an option here on upgrade - I can't
tell which from the log - that left the file broken afterwards. Please
attach /etc/exports from your system.

The most effective way for you to fix this is by editing /etc/exports by
hand to repair the syntax error, then running 'dpkg --configure -a'.

Reiner Jung, because Samsung does not easily reveal what the latest BIOS is for
this model, could you please download the latest firmware software as per
http://www.samsung.com/de/support/model/NP-NC10-JP06DE-downloads, and advise if
a BIOS update is available? If so, when you update to this following
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BiosUpdate does it change anything? If it
doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the output of
the following terminal command:
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date

Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so
posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful.

For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see

[Bug 1011194] Re: vlc stops playing video, ui reacts but closing not possible

2014-04-21 Thread Christian Kroll
Since the upgrade to Trusty, this happens to me, too. In my case, this
bug is triggered by all kinds of video files. If I try to close the
window, it just minimized itself to the notification bar (same with
Alt-F4 and Ctrl-Q). I can restore the GUI by double-clicking on the
notification bar icon. VLC will eventually close itself after
approximately 30 seconds. What makes this even more annoying is that you
can't switch to another video during that time (as the playing request
will be redirected to that dying process). It is also not possible to
restart the current video.

If I start VLC without a video file, I can quit the application
immediately. Also, the bug doesn't seem to be triggered by audio files.

To rule out any config issues I have deleted ~/.config/vlc and
~/.local/share/vlc and also tried vlc --reset-config. It has no effect
on this bug.

Desktop environment is Xfce (plain Xfce session, not the Xubuntu one).

[Bug 1218322] Re: Can't set keyboard layout change to alt+shift, ctrl+shift, etc.

2014-04-21 Thread Norbert
Successfully upgraded my 12.04 to 14.04.
In 12.04 I had Alt+Shift L for layout swithing, so I set this combination on
the first login in 14.04 ('gnome-control-center keyboard' for GNOME FlashBack,
'unity-control-center keyboard') to Alt+Shift L and it works as expected.
So keyboard layout switching is working, so this bug seems to be fixed.

But there are other bugs, which are not fixed:
* bug 1299519 - Unable to rename new folder in GtkFileChooserDialog while
changing keyboard layout
this bug is related to bug 1244090 - Pressing keyboard shortcut to switch
keyboard layout causes temporary loss of focus
* bug 1280759 - Unity shortcuts (Super+A/F/M/C/V) do not work on non-latin
layout in Trusty - shortcuts are defined via keyboard layout, not the keys
* bug 1226962 - Hotkeys not functional in non-latin keyboard layout in 13.10
and 14.04
works in Unity, but not in GNOME FlashBack sessions
* bug 1245473 - Binding ctrl+shift, alt+shift, etc for switching keyboard
layout makes shortcuts with ctrl+shift, etc not working in any program
works in Unity, but not in GNOME FlashBack sessions
* bug 1245137 - hotkeys for keyboard layout switching do not work in
unity-greeter in Saucy and Trusty
* bug 1244548 - Keyboard shortcut for changing keyboard layout does not work on
lock screen
this bug is fixed for unity-greeter, but is not fixed for gnome-screensaver

** Description changed:

  ***
The old PPA, ppa:attente/1218322 is superceded by the following one. You can
remove the old repository using ppa-purge.
  ***

A PPA which should provide some relief for this issue is available at
  https://launchpad.net/~attente/+archive/modifier-only-input-switch. To
  install:

  sudo add-apt-repository ppa:attente/modifier-only-input-switch
  sudo apt-get update
  sudo apt-get upgrade
  (log out, log in)

If the packages improve the situation for you, you can pin them using:

  sudo apt-mark hold compiz
  sudo apt-mark hold gnome-settings-daemon
  sudo apt-mark hold unity

If the packages don't work for you, you can purge them using:

  sudo ppa-purge ppa:attente/modifier-only-input-switch

  === compiz ===

Impact: modifier-only key bindings need to be independent of key-press
order, there's no support for double tapping two modifier keys of the
  same type

  Test case:
  - add at least two input sources through gnome-control-center's text entry
settings
  - use gsettings to set the input switching shortcut to ctrl+left shift:
gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.wm.keybindings switch-input-source
['PrimaryShift_L']
  - holding left shift, press and release ctrl
  - the current input source should change

Regression potential: possible, but highly unlikely, that some key
bindings may be triggered due to the removal of some code that would
normally prevent a possible tap from occurring.

  === unity ===

Impact: gnome-settings-daemon eats modifier-only shortcuts preventing
them from propagating down to applications

  Test case:
  - open gnome-control-center's text input settings
  - set the next input source key binding to ctrl+left shift
  - open gnome-terminal
  - press ctrl+shift+t
  - gnome-terminal should open a new tab

Regression potential: the additional input switch key bindings could
collide with other functionality such as opening the dash or hud

  === gnome-control-center ===

Impact: the UI to change the layout switching keys doesn't work

  Test case:
  - open gnome-control-center's text input settings
  - click on the next layout key entry
  - try entering a key combinaison (e.g ctrl-space)
  - the UI should reflect the new keys

Regression potential: that UI was not working before, it should only be
an improvement (some key combos are not working as expected, that's
another issue and shouldn't be mixed with this one)

  === gnome-settings-daemon ===

Impact: attempting to change keyboard layouts using only modifier keys
  doesn't work

  Test case:
  - add at least two input sources through gnome-control-center's text entry
settings
  - use gsettings to set the input switching shortcut to ctrl+left shift:
gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.wm.keybindings switch-input-source
['PrimaryShift_L']
  - press and release ctrl+left shift
  - the current input source should change

Regression potential: The input switching shortcut might capture other
non-modifier shortcuts, but users will need to consider this when
choosing their switching shortcut anyways. For users this bug affects,
this represents a working solution for a critical bug.

[Bug 1244090] Re: Pressing keyboard shortcut to switch keyboard layout causes temporary loss of focus

2014-04-21 Thread Norbert
** Tags removed: amd64
** Tags added: trusty trusty-desktop

** Description changed:

When pressing keyboard shourtcut for switching keyboard layout, focus
temporary switches from active text input to something else, then
restores back when releasing keys used to switch. Maybe even active
window loses focus, but window frame does not shows this (window header
  remains to look active).

For example: when I press ctrl+shift here, when writing this
description, yellow frame disappears from text input box, text caret
disappears too; they appear again when releasing ctrl+shift. The same
occurs in all other programs, i.e. terminal.

It causes serious annoyance, for example in Twitter when losing focus in
Reply text box, reply rolls up and I have to click it again with mouse
and set caret to correct place each time I switch keyboard layouts.

Other key combinations, not only ctrl+shift, also cause this.

+ For other layout switching problems introduced in Ubuntu 13.10 you can see

[Bug 1309462] Re: 8086:0166 [Aspire V5-571P] Backlight not adjustable

2014-04-21 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
RavanH, could you please test the latest upstream kernel available (not the
daily folder) following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ? It will
allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Once you've tested
the upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel version specifically you
tested. If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following
tags:
kernel-fixed-upstream
kernel-fixed-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

where VERSION-NUMBER is the version number of the kernel you tested. For
example:
kernel-fixed-upstream-3.15-rc2

This can be done by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil icon next
to the word Tags located at the bottom of the bug description. As well, please
remove the tag:
needs-upstream-testing

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the following tags:
kernel-bug-exists-upstream
kernel-bug-exists-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

As well, please remove the tag:
needs-upstream-testing

Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug's
Status as Confirmed. Please let us know your results. Thank you for your
understanding.

Radeon HD 8650G / AMD/ATI Sun XT Radeon HD 8670A/8670M/8690M.
After installing fglrx I generated the xorg.conf in the terminal with 'sudo
aticonfig --adapter=all --initial' and it looked pretty good. Up to this point
I was able to switch between the cards with the commands 'sudo aticonfig
--px-dgpu' for the discrete card and 'sudo aticonfig --px-igpu' for the
intigrated card to save power.
After rebooting I realized that I was no longer able to switch between the
cards and found that the xorg.conf will be overwritten whenever I modified it
and reboot the system. The new (by boot) generated xorg.conf contains not the
relevant information for switing between the cards.
I attached both configuration in one file (xorg.conf.comparison). I will also
provide the atisysteminfo-report.txt so far I will find the place where to
attach.

Regards,
Uwe

[Bug 1310490] [NEW] indicator-messages is hidden on 14.04 LTS

2014-04-21 Thread Bortnyák Roland
Public bug reported:

I've recently upgraded from Ubuntu 12.04.4 LTS to 14.04 LTS. I've
noticed, that the mail icon is hidden. I've reinstalled the package:
`sudo apt-get install --reinstall indicator-messages` - it was
successful, but didn't change anything. Tried to install thunderbird,
but nothing changed.

If I want to run it manually ($ indicator-messages or with Alt+F2) the
command not found...

I know, that it is hidden, because I'm using GMail Notifier, which
displays itself, and it works.

Package info:
indicator-messages:
  Installed: 13.10.1+14.04.20140410-0ubuntu1
  Candidate: 13.10.1+14.04.20140410-0ubuntu1
  Version table:
 *** 13.10.1+14.04.20140410-0ubuntu1 0
500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ trusty/main amd64 Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

Please fix this issue!
