Re: [Bug 1310844] Re: find_ip_via_arp() results in unpredictable, and in some cases, incorrect IP addresses

2014-04-23 Thread Julian Edwards
That's easily reproducible, if you set AMT to use a static IP address,
while the OS running on the system draws its own DHCP address from MAAS.
In this case, there are actually multiple MAC addresses with the same IP
 address.

Don't you mean a single MAC with multiple IPs? The other way around would be
absurd and break your network.

I ran into a similar bug of the samba with the latest ubuntu 14.04
official release.

My Win7 laptop cannot connect to the Samba server, but I run the
smbpasswd -a USER and it works.

it seems the smbpasswd -a USER was not persistent when I reboot the
server, I have to rerun the smbpasswd command to add user.

[Bug 1185756] Re: drbd8-utils not compatible with linux-lts-raring kernel in 12.04

2014-04-23 Thread Stefan Bader
It is a bit odd. Ok, some warnings seems to be coming from pacemaker commands.
Like the
WARN: decode_transition_key: Bad UUID (crm-resource-3048) in sscanf result (3)
for 0:0:crm-resource-3048

I guess the problem is this:
Apr 22 21:55:43 storage0 lrmd: [1242]: info: RA output:
(p_drbd_bigpool:0:start:stderr) drbdadm: Unknown command 'syncer'
Apr 22 21:55:43 storage0 drbd[3079]: ERROR: bigpool: Called drbdadm -c
/etc/drbd.conf syncer bigpool

This would mean that drbdadm did not pass control on drbdadm-83. And
that would only happen if the current version did not seem to be 8.3.
That version number looks to be read from /proc/drbd and would reflect
the version of the kernel module. At least as long as reading from
/proc/drbd is not failing. Then it would fall back to a version number
defined in the command (which would be wrong). Would have been
interesting to find out whether calling drbdadm syncer bigpool
manually would fail the same way but that would need another maintenance
window. Maybe try to see what /proc/drbd is showing.

I probably would suggest that we open a new bug report for the cluster
case, so this one can be closed with the fix to drbdsetup. Then at least
the direct usage seems to work.

This looks like a local configuration problem, rather than a bug in
Ubuntu.

You can find pointers to get help for this sort of problem here:

Since we use this bug tracker to track bugs in Ubuntu, rather than
configuration problems, I'm marking this bug as Invalid. This helps us

If you believe that this is really a bug, then you may find it helpful
to read How to report bugs effectively

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

Due to your unusual configuration, I don't think it's reasonable to
expect the maintainer script to be able to automatically deal with your

be a bug, so am marking this Invalid.

fwiw, bug 1309761 does a much better job of describing the problem.

The idea is to buy time to SRU a fix to let a user select which image to
use when there is a choice.

[Bug 1309860] Re: missing ipmi module

Rather then removing the module handling code, how about wrapping it
with:

if ! grep ipmi_alloc_smi_msg /proc/kallsyms

  ...

That way openipmi will continue to work with kernels where
ipmi_msghandler is still modular.

[Bug 1311660] [NEW] drbd8-utils doesn't create /dev/drbd/ after updating to 8.4.3

2014-04-23 Thread Dennis S.
Public bug reported:

Hi there,

I've found the following issue with drbd8-utils. This is my environment:

- Two Cluster Nodes with Ubuntu 12.04.2:

Re: [Bug 1274720] Re: screen crashed with SIGSEGV

2014-04-23 Thread Axel Beckert
Hi Andreas,

Andreas Hasenack wrote:
I get it to crash when I run:
 rm -rf ~/.byobu
 byobu-screen
 hit ctrl-a c

That way I only get byobu's menu about which Ctrl-A behaviour I want.
But if I choose the screen behaviour and then I get a screen
(server) process zombie and a no more reacting screen (client)
process -- even if I kill these processes, start a new byobu-screen
session and press Ctrl-A c again, the same happens. (Everything
works fine, if I choose the emacs behaviour.)

So thanks for that hint!

It does not only happen with Ctrl-A c but at least also Ctrl-A m
(repeat last message).

Marking this issue as also affects byobu as it seems to use screen
in an incompatible way. (IIRC it uses tmux as default backend
nowadays.) IMHO this should be fixed in byobu, too.

Nevertheless, getting screen to make its server process becoming a
zombie is clearly also an issue in screen -- which should be fixed.

I can also reproduce it on Debian Sid. screen -ls shows a dead
session there:

screen -ls
There is a screen on:
30562.byobu (04/23/14 16:09:44) (Dead ???)
Remove dead screens with 'screen -wipe'.
1 Socket in /var/run/screen/S-abe.

I'll try to reproduce it with some simpler setup than byobu and
forward it to the GNU Screen upstream.

JFTR: I could reproduce it with byobu version 5.77-0ubuntu1 and screen
4.1.0~20120320gitdb59704-9 on trusty as well as with byobu 5.77-1 and
screen 4.2.0-1 (i.e. the newest GNU Screen upstream version, currently
in Debian Experimental).

Regards, Axel

[Bug 1311724] [NEW] Macbook Air resumes immidiately after suspend

2014-04-23 Thread Kim Nielsen
Public bug reported:

Computer model : Apple Macbook Air 6,2 (Mid 2013)
BIOS version : MBA61.88Z.0099.B04 (dmidecode -s bios-version), Oct. 2013
version
OS installed : Ubuntu 14.04, single boot

Problem description:

When closing lid on computer machine suspends. Within 8 to 10 seconds the
machine resumes again with lid still closed. Imidiately opening an closing lid
makes suspends the computer and it keeps suspended until lid is opened again.

This behaviour is the same when entering a sudo pm-suspend from the
terminal. Machine suspends. But resumes after 8 to 10 seconds.
Immidiately doing a second sudo pm-suspend, suspends the machine and
keeps it suspended.

There is one case where the behaviour described above is different. That
is in the situation where machine is put into suspend for the first time
after a complete reboot. In this case the machine suspends correctly and
stays suspended as expected.

The problem is consistent and can be reproduced as desribed any number
of times.

Disabling wi-fi (using the Broadcom 802.11 Linux STA proprietary driver)
doesn't alter the behaviour described above.

Re: [Bug 1185756] Re: drbd8-utils not compatible with linux-lts-raring kernel in 12.04

2014-04-23 Thread Rocco
On a side note, I'm not sure why a new package where released for the
raring stack? Is there a really brilliant reason for not having two
different packages?
On 23 Apr 2014 12:06, Stefan Bader stefan.ba...@canonical.com wrote:

It is a bit odd. Ok, some warnings seems to be coming from pacemaker
 commands. Like the
WARN: decode_transition_key: Bad UUID (crm-resource-3048) in sscanf result
 (3) for 0:0:crm-resource-3048

 Title:
drbd8-utils not compatible with linux-lts-raring kernel in 12.04

Status in “drbd8” package in Ubuntu:
   Invalid
Status in “drbd8” source package in Precise:
   Fix Released

 Bug description:
   Request for SRU:
   [Impact]
DRBD will not work (hang) on fresh install using Ubuntu 12.04.3 media,
and will stop working on sites where the Raring Enablement Stacks is
manually installed as the API between older and newer drbd kernel modules
 has changed.

   [Fix]
The current version of drbd8 utils in Saucy/Raring can be compiled with
legacy utils enabled (basically drbdadm and drbdsetup) and automatically
switches to use the legacy version when an older kernel module is found.
Comparing the code of those two legacy tools showed them to be mostly the
same (except some things that actually look like bug fixes).
I only found two small issues, one was the init.d script which was
changed to use a new command of drbdadm to activate resources. This would
fail if drbdadm fell back to the legacy version. So I picked the shell
function that the current util uses and verified that this still works with
 the new binary.
The other problem was the default config file which contained a new open
which would cause the legacy util to fail. It does not seem to be a
required one in the new tools to commenting it out by default seems to work
 in both cases, too.
Lastly (this did not seem to be a real issue) the legacy tools claimed
to be a version 3.8.10 while the the code really looked like the 3.8.11
version we have in Precise. Since that also matches the version number of
the drbd module in Precise I modified the legacy tools version to be 3.8.11.

   [Test Case]
For testing compatibility with the Precise 3.2 based kernels, either
just install the prepared package and verify everything still works as
before (before installing any HWE kernel). Or if already having installed a
HWE kernel and experiencing the issue, boot into the 3.2 kernel before
installing the proposed package (or follow the downgrade instructions
 before booting back).

To test functionality with HWE kernels, install the Raring kernel in
Precise, install/configure DRBD: you get No response from the DRBD
driver! Is the module loaded?. With the proposed backport the mirror
continues to work. Only for switching back to an older kernel a
special procedure must be followed (see comment #21):

   http://www.drbd.org/users-guide/s-downgrading-drbd84.html

   ---

I've just installed linux-generic-lts-raring on 12.04.2 and my drbd
 device stoped working.
Seems like drbd8-utils is not compatible with DRBD 8.4 in Kernel 3.8.
I see that we can't upgrade the package since this would break
compatibility with the older Kernels in Precise.

But since the new Plans for the LTS-Enablement Stack [1] there should
be a package like drbd8-utils-lts-raring. And the dependancies should
   be resolved automatically with apt.

   kind regards

for those who are also affected by this bug: i've uploaded the a samba
package with this patch on my ppa (ppa:saxl/ppa). Building should start
shortly.

p.s.: I have opened a bugreport upstream
(https://bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=10490), but since older
versions of samba did not have this problem, the root cause could also
be in the system kerberos implementation.

+ [Impact]
+ This bug affects the ability of MAAS (and really any other client/user) to
power on multiple (at scale) nodes in a Seamicro15000 chassis using their
python-seamicroclient APIT, which is what MAAS uses. This prevents MAAS from
being able to power manage many nodes at the time.

+ 2. Register SM15k. (maas admin node-group probe-and-enlist-hardware

power_control=restapi2
+ 3. Power on Many nodes at the time (juju deploy -n 10)
+ 4. Fail.
+
+ With the fix:
+
+ 3. power on many nodes at the time will succeed.
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+ Minimal. This only affects power on/off of nodes. This has been tested
against hardware at one of our labs.

[Bug 1311250] Re: Ubuntu 14.04 cannnot ssh into Chassis Manager

2014-04-23 Thread Edward Bustos
Per Chris D. - From what I interpret below, Ubuntu/OpenSSH has added
new ciphers to its support list.

What doesn't make sense is why that would affect the negotiation with
iLO-CM; it shouldn't matter if other ciphers are added, only if the ones
we want to use are still present.

I further interpret that there is some kind of limit on the total number
of ciphers. Meaning the new ciphers had squeezed out the older ones
somewhere?

Where is that limit on the number of ciphers? Is it in iLO-CM or
Ubuntu/OpenSSH?

But from the source material linked, there's another bug report, which appears
to be open.

[Bug 1185756] Re: drbd8-utils not compatible with linux-lts-raring kernel in 12.04

2014-04-23 Thread Rocco
~# cat /proc/drbd
version: 8.3.11 (api:88/proto:86-96)
srcversion: 93CE421BB73A731BDC72D8E

~# uname -a
Linux zed1 3.2.0-60-generic #91-Ubuntu

@smb I mean like it states in the header:
But since the new Plans for the LTS-Enablement Stack [1] there should be a
package like drbd8-utils-lts-raring. And the dependancies should be resolved
automatically with apt.

Why wasn't the new drbd userspace tools needed for the lts-raring stack
released as drbd8-utils-lts-raring? Then us people whom installed 12.04
during the beginning wouldn't be affected and people using the newer
12.04.x still could use drbd.

The state now is that people whom have upgraded to the raring stack are
fine (one of my clusters are that, but here I had to compile the drbd
tools myself to get drbd working since the old one provided didn't work,
AKA what this bug is about from the start), and everyone else is
borked So same problem just the other way around...

[Bug 1311888] [NEW] pkg-config --libs OpenIPMIpthread fails

2014-04-23 Thread Radosław Łoboda
Public bug reported:

When you try to run pkg-config --libs OpenIPMIpthread expected output
should be:

-lOpenIPMIpthread -lOpenIPMIutils -lOpenIPMI

but instead you get:

Package pthread was not found in the pkg-config search path.
Perhaps you should add the directory containing `pthread.pc'
to the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable
Package 'pthread', required by 'OpenIPMIpthread', not found

This is an issue known back in 2008, with a WORKING fix:

Stumbled upon this problem over a year ago while trying to compile

[Bug 1304167] Re: syntax error, trusty beta-2 cloud image

2014-04-23 Thread Brian Murray
Hello Dave, or anyone else affected,

Accepted libvirt into trusty-proposed. The package will build now and be
available at
http://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libvirt/1.2.2-0ubuntu13.1 in a few
hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to
enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this update
out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, and change the tag
from verification-needed to verification-done. If it does not fix the
bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to
verification-failed. In either case, details of your testing will help
us make a better decision.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance!

[Bug 1309452] Missing SRU information

2014-04-23 Thread Brian Murray
Thanks for uploading the fix for this bug report to -proposed. However,
when reviewing the package in -proposed and the details of this bug
report I noticed that the bug description is missing information
required for the SRU process. You can find full details at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates#Procedure but essentially
this bug is missing some of the following: a statement of impact, a test
case and details regarding the regression potential. Thanks in advance!

  Title: screen crashed with SIGSEGV
UpgradeStatus: Upgraded to trusty on 2013-10-31 (91 days ago)
  UserGroups:
+
+ [Impact]
+ * Byobu users of the byobu-screen backend will find their screen process
crashed, if they hit ctrl-a (screen's default escape sequence). This is a
critical breakage for byobu-screen users.
+ [Test Case]
+ * From a new or fresh Trusty installation (desktop or server), drop to a
command line, and run 'byobu-screen'. You'll be interactively prompted to
choose whether ctrl-a should be handled like screen or emacs. Choose (1) for
screen. Your screen session is now crashed.
+ * Upgrade to the package in trusty-proposed, launch a new byobu-screen
session, and press ctrl-a-c to create a new window, and then ctrl-a-n and
ctrl-a-p and that should all work perfectly well now.
+ [Regression Potential]
+ * This fix does revert the change that was intended to fix a far more minor
Bug: #814172. I have reopened that bug, will fix it separately, and upload
another SRU later.
+ * Otherwise, regression potential should be minimal. Once that recent
commit was reverted, the code looks very much like it's looked for a very long,
stable time.

[Bug 1311919] Re: [SRU] pressing F5 throws errors about windows.tmux missing

2014-04-23 Thread Dustin Kirkland 
** Description changed:

On a fresh install of Byobu (5.77) from trusty, pressing F5 will throw
  errors until ~/.byobu/windows.tmux is created.
+
+ [Impact]
+ * Byobu users of the byobu-tmux backend will sometimes press F5 to refresh
their status, keybindings, or configurations. Users of the default Byobu
package in tmux will receive a very annoying error message about a missing
windows.tmux file.
+ [Test Case]
+ * From a new or fresh Trusty installation (desktop or server), drop to a
command line, and run 'byobu-tmux'. Press F5. You'll see an error message
about windows.tmux missing.
+ * Upgrade to the package in trusty-proposed, launch a new byobu-tmux
session, and press F5. It should work just fine now.
+ [Regression Potential]
+ * The fix is to simply create the file (like the rest of the byobu
configuration files) at launch time at missing, using touch. There is
virtually zero regression potential.

[Bug 1274944] Re: maas-dhcp-server should be configured to start after all network interfaces it serves are up

2014-04-23 Thread Dan Poler
So if I'm reading James' comments correctly, this bug is not a little
deal. Both Akash and I have encountered this in customer environments,
and it leads to dhcpd not coming up when the interface is configured in
MAAS. This is a non-obvious failure state and subsequently leads to
several hours of hair-tearing-out trying to figure out why MAAS isn't
booting a client system... Until you says to yourself, you says, nah,
it couldn't be something as silly as dhcpd not starting up when I
configured the interface...

It's not _necessarily_ a packaging bug as I would think that dhcpd needs
to be told to Do The Right Thing (tm) whenever a network configuration
is adjusted for any reason - add interface, remove interface, change IP
range, etc.
