Just as the screen is fading the login screen pops up and the fading
immediately stops and the screen goes back to full brightness.
Even though the "Brightness & Lock" settings are set to "Turn screen
off when inactive for 5 minutes" the screen does not turn off after
this.

My laptop has two usb ports, one 2.0 and the other 3.0. The 3.0 works

@Alex, yes, you can run sudo dpkg-reconfigure grub-pc before upgrading
to make sure your boot disk is selected.
@SatPhil, one major culprit seems to be boot-repair, and this has
happened in previous upgrades.

This still occurs (at least with localhost) with BackupPC 3.3.0 on *buntu 14.04
(Trusty Tahr). The Ping6Path value is still "undef" by default. Workaround is
to set it to /bin/ping6 (or force it true for localhost):

I have the same 7260 card. I tried 3.15-rc4 today, it didn't help.
Fresh 14.04 32bit install. Wifi is completely unusable. Worked in
13.10 ~95% of the time.
