Adding resume=/dev/sda8 to GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT in /etc/default/grub did
the trick, but on older kernels - for example: 3.11.0-19-generic this option is
not needed. So why this its assigned to pm-utils?
I am not a programmer, so maybe this is why it seems strange to me...

I am suspecting that the recent changes to cache max-size is related to this.
The internal Vary marker object we use in the cache has no body but was
specifying 'unknown' body length instead of none.
 Please test this patch.

Just tried the patch on Squid 3.2 in the context of bug 3799 and it did

Please find my analysis on this issue.
Squid 3.2.1
I have tracked this down to the way hash keys are generated and retrieved for
requests with vary header. If you go to the squid source code file
src/store_key_md5.cc (around line 100):

const cache_key *
storeKeyPublicByRequestMethod(HttpRequest * request, const HttpRequestMethod
method)
{
static cache_key digest[SQUID_MD5_DIGEST_LENGTH];
unsigned char m = (unsigned char) method.id();
const char *url = urlCanonical(request);
SquidMD5_CTX M;
SquidMD5Init(M);
SquidMD5Update(M, m, sizeof(m));
SquidMD5Update(M, (unsigned char *) url, strlen(url));

if (request-vary_headers)
SquidMD5Update(M, (unsigned char *) request-vary_headers,
strlen(request-vary_headers));
SquidMD5Final(digest, M);

return digest;
}

you can see that MD5-based keys are generated based on request method
id, request URL, and request vary header. The problem seems to be that
when hash keys are generated during retrieval, the vary header field is
empty and therefore although the resource is cached it cannot be
retrieved because of the incorrect hash key.

If you comment out two lines from above as follows:

//if (request-vary_headers)
//SquidMD5Update(M, (unsigned char *) request-vary_headers,
strlen(request-vary_headers));

and recompile squid you will see that such resources get served from
cache indicating that the culprit is the vary header.

The part of the code that seems to be generating the hash keys for
retrieval is inside src/store.cc (around line 625):

StoreEntry *
storeGetPublicByRequestMethod(HttpRequest * req, const HttpRequestMethod
method)
{
return

[Bug 1329049] Re: quickstart fails, hardcodes /var/lib/lxc/ somewhere

Hello,

I proposed the fix
https://code.launchpad.net/~niedbalski/golxc/fix-1329049/+merge/225584 for
golxc, to  use
the lxc-config lxc.lxpath value instead of /var/lib/lxc by default.

Once this fix is landed on golxc , i'll promote another PR for using
this on juju-core.

[Bug 1024475] Re: libnss-ldap causes boot hang on Ubuntu 12.04 Precise

2014-07-04 Thread Ben Brown
Yep, sad to say this is still happening, 2 years later. Brand new
install of 14.04 LTS goes into high cpu usage during boot and you never
make it to a usable login prompt with LDAP enabled. Tried setting the
LDAP URI to localhost, LAN IP and it's FQDN, no effect.

Luckily, the workaround posted in #2 worked for me and I'm up and
running... at least until the script is replaced in a future update.

Kludgy perhaps, but better than nothing.

[Bug 1254085] Re: ssh fails to connect to VPN host - hangs at 'expecting SSH2_MSG_KEX_ECDH_REPLY'

2014-07-04 Thread Danton Nunes
besides setting MTU to 1480, it is wise to do:
# /sbin/iptables -I OUTPUT -p tcp --tcp-flags SYN,RST SYN -j TCPMSS
--clamp-mss-to-pmtu
# /sbin/ip6tables -I OUTPUT -p tcp --tcp-flags SYN,RST SYN -j TCPMSS
--clamp-mss-to-pmtu
because there still are firewalls out there that can't handle fragmentation.

[Bug 1303086] Re: Pointer Speed Missing in Unity Settings for Mouse Trackpad

For Unity Authors Simplicity is not removing things is to make things

I've found the settings in dconf and am still tweaking them to my
liking. This is kind of ridiculous that something as basic as slider to
adjust acceleration is no longer there. I mean come on, didn't gnome 1

In dconf-editor navigate to org gnome settings-daemon peripherals
 mouse and adjust the motion acceleration and motion threshold.

[Bug 1009312] Re: 10de:0426 GPU loads unreliably, possible kernel timeout

2014-07-04 Thread Kyle Auble
It's been a while, but I've found the time to dig much deeper into this
and familiarize myself with the kernel code some. Actually, I feel
comfortable with the idea of directly contacting the appropriate mailing
list now so this is more to keep the record up-to-date than a request
for more triage.

Anyways, after just walking through the kernel code, I first realized
that the first sign of the bug (the 30ms gap) was occurring somewhere
within the function pci_scan_child_bus (in drivers/pci/probe.c), between
when it invokes the function pci_scan_slot (also in drivers/pci/probe.c)
and the function pcibios_fixup_bus (in my case, under
arch/x86/pci/common.c)

From there, I began adding dev_info statements around function calls
that would be executed in between, then looked between whichever 2
messages the gap occurred between to further narrow down the problem.
After a few rounds of this, I found the delay consistently appearing
within the function pcie_aspm_configure_common_clock (in
drivers/pci/pcie/aspm.c) After a little research about what the PCIe
common clock is about, it actually explains several aspects of this bug.
Booting the computer from battery power would influence the power state
of the device, which is what ASPM is all about. And it turns out the
discrepancy of 24ms between a good boot and a bad boot is precisely the
length of time the PCIe standard defines as a timeout for link training.

Unfortunately, I don't know how, or even if, the two commits I found
earlier directly tie into this. It seems there's a really weird race
condition or resource fight going on. I'm not exactly sure how to fix
the problem clearly either because just adding the overhead of dev_info
statements to the function makes the bug go away (so I can technically
fix the bug, but that's just a total hack). The one other little cliue
I found was that the delay went away completely when I put dev_info
statements in every possible branch of the function's logic. When I only
added dev_info to the ifs corresponding to a problem though, a slight
delay appeared (bumping the total time in the function to around 10ms),
but still not enough for link training to timeout (so my GPU always
loaded).

I plan on mailing the list for the PCI subsystem of the kernel soon, but
I'm stumped about how exactly to proceed so if you have any debugging
suggestions, I'd be happy to hear them. Thanks again.

[Bug 1337542] Re: huawei e5372 not identified

2014-07-04 Thread Lars Melin
Jul 3 23:44:31 usb_modeswitch: switch device 12d1:14fe on 003/005

usb_modeswitch has found the dongle in initial mode 12d1:14fe and has
switched it into modem mode

Jul 3 23:44:32 kernel: [19565.429763] usb 3-1: New USB device found,
idVendor=12d1, idProduct=1506

Jul 3 23:44:33 usb_modeswitch[16596]: usb_modeswitch: switched to
12d1:1506 on 3/6

The first indication of a problem is here:

Jul 3 23:44:34 usb_modeswitch[16596]: usb_modeswitch: add device ID
12d1:1506 to driver option

The option driver did not attach by itself to the dongle, usb_modeswitch will
check for that and load the driver using the new_id function of the driver if
no driver claimed the interfaces.
The new_id function can not distinguish between serial interfaces and net
interfaces so it will erroneosly also bind to the net interface:

Jul 3 23:44:35 ModemManager[812]: warn (ttyUSB1): port attributes not
fully set

The reason for the driver not binding by itself (and excluding the net
interface) is most likely due to an outdated option driver in your distro, a
driver not directly supporting your dongle.

Please attach the output from lsusb -v -d 12d1:1506 so I can see the
interface attributes in order to tell if the device is supported in
mainline linux kernel.

[Bug 1334950] Re: [HP 15 Touchsmart] Volume mute LED is not working

2014-07-04 Thread David Henningsson
Looking at the code, there are a few different ways in which the LED can
be controlled. It's probably one of those and we just need to find the
right one through trial and error.

Let's try the ALC269_FIXUP_HP_MUTE_LED_MIC1 quirk first. I'll prepare a
dkms package shortly.

[Bug 1301601] Re: [Dell Latitude E7440] suspend sometimes freezes when lock screen activates

2014-07-04 Thread Øyvind Stegard
Console switch workaround is reliable and prevents possible hangs on

It's implemented with a simple script in

# Possible workaround for bug:

** Description changed:

[Bug 750906] Re: OpenAL default config file needs change to stop hangs

2014-07-04 Thread Bret Curtis
OSS isn't installed in Ubuntu, ALSA is. There are wrappers that emulate
OSS behaviour but are not installed by default.

Setting drivers=oss isn't really an option. Can you suggest another
alternative?

[Bug 943940] Re: Can't generate a new key if the .gnupg dir is a link to a dir in another partition

2014-07-04 Thread Daniel Leidert
There are probably several methods to make this work. One is described
here: http://support.gpgtools.org/kb/faq/networked-home-broken. Or your
can use a configuration option either on the command line or via
gpg.conf to set up the location of the secret keyring and store that on
the encrypted partition. Also using --homedir or exporting GNUPGHOME
with the location to the .gnupg directory should work. I'm therefor
closing this report. Please feel free to reopen it, if you still think,
you hit a bug.

[Bug 1319352] Re: indicator-application does not work in MATE 1.8

2014-07-04 Thread Monsta
I've compiled indicator-application-gtk2 from source and found out
there's indicator-application-service executable which doesn't make it
to the package. It can be found only in the src subdir after the
compilation.

If I run it manually, I get this:

$ ./indicator-application-service

(process:16085): libindicator-WARNING **: No watchers, service timing
out.

(process:16085): GLib-CRITICAL **: Source ID 20 was not found when
attempting to remove it

Then it exits.

[Bug 1337743] [NEW] Default printer driver not working Brother HL 2142

[Bug 1337745] [NEW] Redshift's screen color changing breaks whenever interacting with Filezilla

2014-07-04 Thread Steve Pearce
Public bug reported:

This is a problem I can repeat after reboots on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS 64bit,
on several different machines.

Whenever I open FileZilla and connect to sites (perhaps it's Filezilla's
window toolkit?), I notice that Redshift's color change resets to
default, then seconds after it starts working again.

I'm not sure how to go about providing useful information for this bug.
I'm also not sure whether it's an issue with Redshift or FileZilla doing
something strange with video , so I would welcome any help. Which logs
should I be providing for this?

Some possible useful information:
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation GF119 [GeForce GT 610]
(rev a1)

I'm also using Ubuntu's Nouveau driver opposed to the binary NVIDIA
graphics driver.

[Bug 1336187] Re: where do the installation files go

2014-07-04 Thread zbenjamin
While Qt allows installing multiple versions in the system, the debian packaging
scheme does not atm. Since we are follwing that scheme closely this is not a bug
but a design decision.

Marked as invalid, because its not a bug.

[Bug 1337745] Re: Redshift's screen color changing breaks whenever interacting with Filezilla

apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected trusty

** Description changed:

(rev a1)

- I'm also using Ubuntu's Nouveau driver opposed to the binary NVIDIA
- graphics driver.

[Bug 1337749] [NEW] High CPU usage after resizing a window

2014-07-04 Thread Furkan Alaca
Public bug reported:

Background:

Symptoms are 50-120% CPU usage when scrolling (especially Firefox),
dragging around a window, resizing windows, basically any 2D graphics
rendering on the desktop. This happens both in fglrx and the open source
radeon driver. I started my debugging process by changing various
settings, restarting, running top in a terminal, launching a Nautilus
window, and quickly dragging it around with the mouse in circles while
watching the CPU usage rise to around 50%. Resizing the window makes it
jump to 100%+. Xorg and compiz are the culprits, with the CPU usage
being split around 50/50 between them.

Reproducing the issue:

After a lot of searching I found some tips in the Arch Wiki article for
the open source radeon driver, and I put together the following
xorg.conf:

Section Module
Load dri2
Load glamoregl
EndSection

Section Device
Identifier Radeon 6670
Driver radeon
Option  MigrationHeuristic  greedy
 Option AccelMethod   glamor
EndSection

After applying these settings, launching Nautilus and dragging it around
only resulted in about 4% CPU usage each for xorg and compiz. Then,
resizing the window (click and hold a side, and just keep moving the
mouse left and right) made Xorg jump to 70% and compiz 50%. After that,
when I start dragging the window around, CPU usage is back to around
what it was originally: About 25% for compiz and 15% for Xorg. This
exact behaviour happens after each reboot: The CPU usage is initially
low when dragging the window around, but resizing it somehow messes
things up and it never goes back to normal after that.

I'm using a Radeon 6670 right now. I'll be receiving an R7 260X in about
a week or so, so I won't be able to test with the exact same hardware,
but I'm expecting at least similar behaviour since I also swapped in an
R7 250 and was having the same issues.

This is on an up to date Ubuntu 12.04, and has affected the last few
kernels (a few months I think, but haven't kept the old ones so can't
easily test when it was introduced)

:~$ uname -a
Linux 3.2.0-65-generic #98-Ubuntu SMP Wed Jun 11 20:27:07 UTC 2014 x86_64
x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

currently trying the mei blackist workaround, will feedback here.
