So this indicates that the wrong copy of subunit is being picked up by

[Bug 658865] Re: Install from USB fails: "An attempt to configure apt to install additional packages from the CD failed"

2014-08-23 Thread Mark Caldwell
I am getting this same error is 14.04.1-desktop-i386 Check disk for
errors reports no problems with the install USB

After getting the same apt config error I press the OK button and then
it tells me that that the install was successful and to reboot. When i
reboot i get the flashing curser and no more.

I have tried tried installing 4 times and I've tried boot-repair-disk
twice. Still to no avail.

The workaround mentioned above is very confusing and although seemingly
a USB issue... My little netbook has no dvd to install from, and though
i have a portable cd writer, this image is far too big to burn to CD.
So, I am stuck with USB only method of installing. and it fails
repeatedly.

Would someone please classify this a CRITICAL and ASSIGN it to someone?
Or simple fix the issue? Or make the workaround clear enough to know
when method1 ends and method2 begins?

The only other workaround i can imagine is is downloading the 12.04 and
doing 4 upgrades. How lame is that?

[Bug 1360753] [NEW] Kernel hibernate fails with "PM: Swap header not found!" when multiple swap spaces are enabled (even though the resume parameter is specific)

2014-08-23 Thread David Grossberg
Public bug reported:

I am attempting to set up working hibernation in Linux (Which I define
as hibernation that works no matter how full my RAM and swap are) and
have found it to be impossible with any of the hibernation systems. this
bug is about the failure using the "kernel" method, which is at least a
well defined failure.

My setup is the following:
Kubuntu 14.04 amd64 with 32GiB RAM, and a 32GiB swap file, with a 32GiB swap
partition that is enabled in a /etc/pm/sleep.d/ script and disabled on thaw.
The UUID of the partition is set in both /etc/default/grub
(GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT) and /etc/initramfs-tools/conf.d/resume.

when /etc/pm/config.d/00sleep_module has SLEEP_MODULE=kernel then I can
actually successfully hibernate and resume IF I swapoff the swap file
first, which defeats the purpose. (SLEEP_MODULE=uswsusp is another story
for another bug, and TuxOnIce has been broken for a year, which I know
is not your concern)

If I leave the swap file active then when I attempt to hibernate, here
is the relevant portion of kern.log:

[Bug 1360749] [NEW] Centrino Advanced-N 6200 Not Sustaining Wireless Connections

2014-08-23 Thread Lonnie Lee Best
Public bug reported:

I'm having issues sustaining wireless connections with a HP Pavilion dv8
Notebook PC using its internal wifi card which is a Centrino Advanced-N
6200.

While it is connected it performs well, but it often becomes disabled
and I have to toggle it back on using a touch-toggle-button located
above the number pad of the keyboard.

When it becomes disabled, no wi-fi connections are listed under Ubuntu's
network manager applet, but after toggling it back on, all the local
wifi connections reappear.

Sometimes this will happen 4 times in a 10 minute span, and other times
it will sustain the wifi connection for hours. I have experience this
behavior on multiple wifi routers, even on ones giving 5 bars (located
10 feet away).

In summary, it seems like it is toggling off (as though I manually
pressed the toggle button myself -- which is definitely not the case).

the end of August. I really like Ubuntu Linux and everything you stand
for. I think it is the best Linux distro by far. Just wish I could go

[Bug 1360545] Re: [trusty] [drm] HPD interrupt storm detected on connector DP-1: switching from hotplug detection to polling

2014-08-23 Thread Chris Cheney
** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu)
   Status: New => Confirmed

** Description changed:

  I have a haswell motherboard with 3 1080p monitors connected, 2 directly
via HDMI and a 3rd HDMI connected to an active displayport dongle. The
monitor on the displayport connection had been working fairly reliably
until I decided to finally upgrade my bios to fix some other issues (big
mistake, since I late found out its nearly impossible to downgrade).
Since I upgraded the monitor nearly never works, I did get it to show
display a few times but I'm not sure how that happened. At the moment
while researching information to add to this post it actually started
working for the moment. When I run xrandr it causes the screens to blink
- rapidly for around 30sec-1min.
+ rapidly for around 30sec-1min. Most of the time the system is
+ unresponsive while the monitor is plugged in. It appears to occasionally
+ cause the entire desktop to stop responding until the mate-session is
+ killed.

In dmesg I see instances of:

[ 10.053292] [drm] HPD interrupt storm detected on connector DP-1:
switching from hotplug detection to polling
[ 240.125029] [drm] HPD interrupt storm detected on connector DP-1:
switching from hotplug detection to polling

Also fwiw I get different errors, and a kernel backtrace, but still no
display on current drm-intel-nightly from here:

  http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/drm-intel-nightly/

And of course it all still works fine under Windows 8.1.

Searching google I see other instances of people with the same problem
on the i915 driver on other systems like ThinkPad, etc.

  eg:

  https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1062571

  http://comments.gmane.org/gmane.comp.freedesktop.xorg.drivers.intel/23611

And a few possibly unrelated things in fdo bugzilla

[Bug 891029] Re: keepass2 (2.16+dfsg-2) crashes switching tabs

2014-08-23 Thread Alan Reyes
This problem persist with mono 3.2.8, but debugging the source code and
reading other's bug reports I found, it seems this problem is a bug in
the Mono Framework when using images in the Tab pages, because it don't
happens when you don't use custom colors.

So, I propose as a workaround to add a setting to "ignore custom colors"
so this problem can be averted without removing the custom colors for
those who work in multiple operative sistems.

Regards.

[Bug 1310322] Re: Nautilus unmaximised directory windows have a 50 pixel barrier from top panel

2014-08-23 Thread Nathan Russell
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CFdllltkd98

** Summary changed:

- Nautilus unmaximised directory windows have a 50 pixel barrier from top panel
+ Unmaximised windows that use the gtk header bar have a barrier above them
preventing them from touching the top panel

** Description changed:

- Open a normal user GUI Nautilus directory and there is a small strip of
- about 50 pixels below the top panel that unmaximized windows cannot
- occupy. This is for Gnome Ubuntu 14.04 x86 64bit. A workaround is to
- press the super key first then drag the window. Someone else says that
- the alt key is needed instead of the super key for their system.

[Bug 1360737] [NEW] rtorrent crashes randomly

2014-08-23 Thread Kurt
Public bug reported:

I have been hashing a large number of torrents and have been getting an
intermittent crash in rtorrent. The error messages are all very similar
to:

torrents@seed ~ % rtorrent -n -o import=/my/home/dir/rtorrent.rc
Caught SIGBUS, dumping stack:
0 rtorrent() [0x414034]
1 /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libpthread.so.0(+0x10340) [0x7f1157535340]
2 /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libcrypto.so.1.0.0(+0x6ab9c) [0x7f1156540b9c]

Error: Success
Signal code '2': Non-existent physical address.
Fault address: 0x7f11120e5000.

The fault address is not part of any chunk.
zsh: abort (core dumped) rtorrent -n -o import=/my/home/dir/rtorrent.rc

This is similar to bug 392745, however I'm running 0.9.2, not 0.8.6
which was the version in that bug.

Other details:

Description:Ubuntu 14.04.1 LTS
Package: rtorrent-0.9.2-1
Release:14.04
Memory: 16GB
Processor: Intel i5-4250U

I believe the problem is related to how rtorrent is hashing things since I have
multiple rtorrent processes running on the same box and the ones that are not
hashing anything do not exhibit this behavior.

Furthermore, I have tried deleting and recreating all the information in
rtorrent's session directory. This does not solve the problem.

output that I could include in this window, as requested in the
guideline. Alternativly, see the software update log below. This is
reproducible, I cannot update Lubuntu any more since weeks (since
installation of Lubuntu).

Maybe important to mention that I have a Lubuntu installation from a CD
in a magazine, I did not install any additional packages.

[Bug 1283397] Re: videos only take up 1/4 (one quarter/fourth) of the window

Just a note: the quarter-screen video occurs only when the Gnome scaling
factor is set to 2. Setting the scaling factor to 3 (only integer
scaling is valid) results in a one-ninth-screen video.

[Bug 1360732] [NEW] [utopic] [drm] HPD interrupt storm detected on connector DP-1: switching from hotplug detection to polling

2014-08-23 Thread Chris Cheney
Public bug reported:

This is essentially the same issue as bug #1360545 but on utopic. On
utopic there are also some kernel backtraces as shown below. The system
was completely unresponsive and I had to actually unplug the displayport
dongle to be able to file this bug report.

In addition to the interrupt storm message I got on trusty I also saw:

[3.713503] [drm:ivybridge_set_fifo_underrun_reporting] *ERROR* uncleared
fifo underrun on pipe C
[3.713536] [drm:ivb_err_int_handler] *ERROR* Pipe C FIFO underrun

The numerous backtraces looked similar to this each time, they appear to
be happening about 3 times per second until I unplugged the dongle.

[Bug 1343081] Re: chromium: missing "http://" in URL bar on non-ssl http URLs

2014-08-23 Thread Saikrishna Arcot
As Florian said (and based on what I've just tested), doing either
"Select text -> Middle click to copy -> Middle click in another window
to paste" or "Ctrl-C and Ctrl-V" copies the http:// over, *even when
http:// isn't visible in the omnibox (the edit field)*. I'm not sure if
there is a configuration problem on your system or if it's something
specific to the DE (I'm on KDE).

[Bug 1360507] Re: package mythtv-database 2:0.27.0+fixes.20140324.8ee257c-0ubuntu3 failed to install/upgrade: ErrorMessage: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2014-08-23 Thread Peter Lavender
I've solved this and now have a working mythtv setup, the overall dist
upgrade worked fine, the OS etc upgraded fine.

The mythtv issue was deeper than just the config.xml. During the schema
upgrades there were duplicate records in the tables that the schema
upgrade faulted on.

It took a long time to figure out the right location for the mythtv-
setup.log, once I found that I could see the failure point and take
steps to correct it.

Not really a fault of the Ubuntu upgrade per se'.

[Bug 1328392] Re: [Asus X550LD] Touchpad not working - Ubuntu 14.04

2014-08-23 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
** Description changed:

Touchpad on the Asus X550LD is not working on Ubuntu 14.04 with either
  default or mainline kernel 3.15.0-031500-generic.

Cursor does make some movements if you insist toying and clicking on the
touchpad, but only seldomly (just using it normally often would produce
no move), and in a direction that apparently has no relation with touch.
Generally moves towards bottom, bottom/left, but insisting one can have
patchy movements in other directions. However, clicking has no effect.

Mouse connected with USB works normally, until you try to use the
touchpad. If you touch the touchpad, the cursor mostly keeps on moving
as per the mouse, but click mostly does not work. Logging out and
logging in or restarting fixes the problem.

WORKAROUND: Use external USB mouse but don't touch the touchpad.
+
+ WORKAROUND: To get this to work as PS/2 use kernel boot parameter:
+ psmouse.proto=bare

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Reviewing your dmesg attachment in this bug report it
seems that there is a problem with your hardware. I recommend
performing a back up and then investigating the situation. Measures you
might take include checking cable connections and using software tools
to investigate the health of your hardware. In the event that is is not
in fact an error with your hardware please set the bug's status back to
New. Thanks and good luck!

2014-08-23 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. I noticed that you are installing an older version of
Ubuntu, unless you have some specific requirements to run an older
release I recommend trying to install the latest LTS version of Ubuntu.
We released version 14.04.1, in July of 2014, and it is a Long Term
Support release. You can find different ways to obtain it at
http://download.ubuntu.com. In the event that you really want to run
the older version of Ubuntu please set this bug's status back to New.
Thanks!

[Bug 1297849] Re: VPN Connection fails after last upgrade on 14.04

2014-08-23 Thread tallien
Just tried #16 again and had the same result as with my other fix
attempts - the first attempt to connect to a vpn after deleting the
files works, but thereafter the vpn submenu stops responding and
clicking on "disconnect" does not produce any result.

I tried using "vpnc-disconnect" in terminal. The response was "no vpnc
found running". In the end I tried "sudo service network-manager
restart" and this broke the vpn connection. The vpn submenu remained
unresponsive after the network manager restart, but the "Edit
Connections" menu item at the bottom of the connections menu has
continued to work throughout, so it seems the problem is only with the
vpn-related parts of the menu.

Also tried this on a clean x64 install (prior tests were on 32-bit) and
had the same problem. The 64-bit install had never even been configured
with a VPN before. Its VPN submenu was unresponsive right from the
beginning when I tried to configure a connection.

[Bug 1360705] [NEW] 64.4.17.176 (fails to resolve ftp.microsoft.com)

2014-08-23 Thread Daniel Hollocher
Public bug reported:

While using winetricks to install various fonts, it would freeze while
trying to connect to 64.4.17.176. Doesn't seem to be much there in my
webbrowser.

My assessment is that winetricks seems to resolve ftp.microsoft.com by
hard coding it to 64.4.17.176 [1].

Un-hardcoding it worked for me, ie:
Edit /usr/bin/winetricks and change the line that says
"ftp_microsoft_com=64.4.17.176" to "ftp_microsoft_com=ftp.microsoft.com"
