rules aren't supposed for this, and if they write any files it should be
into /dev/ or /run. They can race in both ways: before the file system
becomes available, or they run too late when the display manager is
already starting

This is happening again (kubuntu 64 bit 14.04, muon 2.20 on kde
framework 4.13.3).
when muon-updater is fired up, it briefly shows the packages to be
updated (just a flash), then erases the display shows a progress
indicator and sits there for ever.

As an addendum. In /some/ occasions logging out of kde, logging in
again, relaunching muon-updater gives the followin behavior.

- screen is erased immediately after
- muon waits for about 1m with progress bar

It seems that this is caused by previously installed fglrx failed to
remove x86_64-linux-gnu_gl_conf when it get removed. After removing
fglrx, /usr/lib/pxpress/ld.so.conf is still shown in update-
alternatives:

I was installing Ubuntu 14.4.1 trying to dul boot an Asus Win8 laptop. Disc
space is not the problem for me.
I did many tries to install and still failing against the UEFI monster, maybe
the specific manufacturer is of blame. I still can't tell.
After the attempt I checked that installation is in

The Intel AMT allows passwords with $ in them. I set a password of
"1Pa$$word" and could not control the power from MAAS. I changed the
password to "1Pa**word" and MAAS could then control the power on the
Intel Nuc.

foundation.org that these files can have dots, in fact, multiple dots to
accomodate dns domain names.
