[Bug 1377827] [NEW] Apache reload fails silenty when not run as sudo

2014-10-06 Thread David
Public bug reported:

I ran the service apache2 reload command and it executed without
warnings. However, the apache configuration was not reloaded.

The command service apache2 restart does (loudly) fail when not run as
sudo.

[Bug 1377900] [NEW] libvirt start races with xen init

2014-10-06 Thread Stefan Bader
Public bug reported:

Now that libvirt also checks for the right contents of
/proc/xen/control_d there are some cases where things are not quite
ready when libvirt checks. Looking at the upstart rules, libvirt
currently starts on entering runlevel 2345. kvm/qemu also uses the same
trigger and xen is still using init.d scripts. Since there is no way of
exactly predicting which hypervisor has to come up (could be kvm/qemu or
xen or none), the sanest approach right now seems to delay startup until
rc emulation has finished. This should cover them all. So instead:

start on startup runlevel [2345]

we would use

start on stopped rc RUNLEVEL=[2345]

[Bug 1336855] Re: [SRU] non-interactive grub updates broken for /dev/xvda devices on Cloud-Images/Cloud-init

2014-10-06 Thread Chris J Arges
Hello Ben, or anyone else affected,

Accepted cloud-init into trusty-proposed. The package will build now and
be available at http://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cloud-
init/0.7.5-0ubuntu1.3 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed
repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to
enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this update
out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, and change the tag
from verification-needed to verification-done. If it does not fix the
bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to
verification-failed. In either case, details of your testing will help
us make a better decision.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance!

[Bug 1377960] [NEW] xen domains not processed on shutdown

2014-10-06 Thread Stefan Bader
Public bug reported:

On a Xen host it is possible to have guests started via libvirt or xl
directly running in parallel. In that case xl list -l has a bug which
causes it to report an error and fail to process any guest.

On the other side libvirt does not try the xen:/// uri to find Xen
guests started via libvirt. And so those won't get shutdown properly
either.

Fix this on both sides by changing xen-init-list to process only domains
started by the xl toolstack and on the other side add the xen uri to the
list of uris in the libvirt upstart script.

2014-10-06 Thread Clint Byrum
Hi! I can appreciate the difficult position you've found yourself in,
and if we could help, I think we would. However, third party MySQL
packages aren't exactly supported by Ubuntu.

Your error log shows normal operation:

141006 18:35:13 [Warning] Using unique option prefix myisam-recover instead of
myisam-recover-options is deprecated and will be removed in a future release.
Please use the full name instead.

141006 18:35:13 [Note] Plugin 'InnoDB' is disabled.
141006 18:35:13 [Note] Server hostname (bind-address): '127.0.0.1'; port: 3306
141006 18:35:13 [Note]   - '127.0.0.1' resolves to '127.0.0.1';
141006 18:35:13 [Note] Server socket created on IP: '127.0.0.1'.
141006 18:35:14 [Note] Event Scheduler: Loaded 0 events
141006 18:35:14 [Note] /usr/sbin/mysqld: ready for connections.
Version: '5.5.38-0ubuntu0.14.04.1' socket: '/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock'
port: 3306 (Ubuntu)

Anyway, I'd suggest restoring from backups. This is the result of a
third party package, and not a bug in the MySQL packages. So unless you
have more information to share, I'm closing this bug as Invalid.

2014-10-06 Thread Sam Hartman
To test:

Install precise.
On precise, enable multiple architectures (say amd64 and i386)
install libkadm5srv-mit8.

Update your sources.list to trusty, try installing libkadm5srv-mit8.
I'd expect that to fail.

Update your sources.list to also include trusty-proposed.
Upgrade libkadm5srv-mit8; I'd expect that to succeed.

I've phrased that in terms of manually changing sources.list rather than
using the release upgrader, because I don't know how to do a release
upgrade with proposed enabled. If there's an easy way to do that, then
I'd expect the following to work:

Install precise including both amd64 and i386 and install
libkadm5srv-mit8.
Do a release upgrade.
I'd expect it to fail.

Install precise including both amd64 and i386. Install
libkadm5srv-mit8. Do a release upgrade to trusty with proposed enabled.
I'd expect that to succeed.

[Bug 1374612] Re: [FFE] add pc-1.0-precise machine type

2014-10-06 Thread Chris J Arges
Hello Serge, or anyone else affected,

Accepted qemu into trusty-proposed. The package will build now and be
available at http://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/qemu/2.0.0+dfsg-
2ubuntu1.6 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Thank you in
advance!

[Bug 1370602] Re: package squid3 3.3.8-1ubuntu6.1 failed to install/upgrade: Unterprozess installiertes post-installation-Skript gab den Fehlerwert 1 zurück

2014-10-06 Thread Timo Lehmann
I had the same error.
The manager, localhost and to_localhost definitions are built-in in later
squid-versions...
Simply restart your system after the relase-upgrade and remove the following
lines from your squid.conf:

acl manager proto cache_object
acl localhost src 127.0.0.1/32 ::1
acl to_localhost dst 127.0.0.0/8 0.0.0.0/32 ::1

If that doesn't help, here are the steps I did before removing the lines in
squid.conf but I don't think these are necessary:
apt-get remove squid3
apt-get autoremove
apt-get install squid3

Also copying files from the computer to a media device (camera,

[Bug 1377809] [NEW] Wizard sometimes crashes after entering wireless passphrase

2014-10-06 Thread Brendan Donegan
Public bug reported:

With recent images I'm finding that every so often when I run the
wizard, after entering the wireless passphrase, unity8 freezes, hangs
and then crashes before the keyboard can fully close. First the keyboard
gets stuck near the bottom of the screen, then for a minute or so the
screen is unresponsive and then unity8 restarts.

This is not easy to reproduce - you'd have to keep running the wizard
repeatedly and eventually you might catch it.

[Bug 1307746] Re: pitivi crashed with SIGSEGV in __GI___pthread_mutex_lock()

2014-10-06 Thread Timo Jyrinki
As replied (https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/ubuntu-
desktop/2014-October/004558.html), I don't see indications of upstream
dropping maintenance of Pitivi, with a lot of activity in upstream code
repository lately. They have also switched away from the problematic
video sink that is apparently causing this crash.

That said, this bug would definitely need fixing in 14.04. The crasher
didn't exist at some point in January-February of 14.04 cycle, where I
remember using pitivi 0.93 successfully.

[Bug 1363946] Re: unity8-dash crashed with SIGABRT in qt_message_fatal() under incorrect locale

2014-10-06 Thread Michi Henning
I expect the exception comes out of the bowels of the glib ini parser.
There is probably little that the scopes API can do, other than to maybe
throw a separate exception for the parsing failure. But the shell should
not try and initialize the run time without catching the exception and
handling it a bit more gracefully.

How is it possible for a non-existent locale to be set in the first
place? I would have thought that the UI should prevent that altogether?

[Bug 1377809] Re: Wizard sometimes crashes after entering wireless passphrase

2014-10-06 Thread Brendan Donegan
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected

** Description changed:

With recent images I'm finding that every so often when I run the
wizard, after entering the wireless passphrase, the wizard freezes,
hangs and then crashes before the keyboard can fully close. First the
keyboard gets stuck near the bottom of the screen, then for a minute or
so the screen is unresponsive and then everything restarts.

This is not easy to reproduce - you'd have to keep running the wizard
repeatedly and eventually you might catch it.

This is a driver problem and should be treated from a kernel

[Bug 1377817] [NEW] Search box isn't always focused when clicking on search

2014-10-06 Thread Brendan Donegan
Public bug reported:

Normally when we click on the search button in the dash, the search
field appears, is focused and the keyboard pops up. With a certain
amount of use, I am now finding that sometimes it won't appear. The
exact circumstances are still unclear, but with 10-15 minutes usage it
should eventually happen. I'll keep looking for some firm reproduction
steps.

[Bug 1350148] Re: [ HP Z1 G2 Touch Workstation] right side mic jack can't work

2014-10-06 Thread AceLan Kao
I'm not sure if it's fixed or not.
On the machines there are 2 slots, one icon on the machine is head phone, and
another icon is microphone.
With the dkms, plug-in the microphone into the microphone jack, in the audio
settings the input device will switch to external microphone.
With the proposed kernel, plug-in the microphone into microphone jack, nothing
happens, but plug-in into head phone jack, it works.

I've tested headset and pure microphone and plugin to the microphone
jack, the behavior is the same, with dkms it works, but with preposed
kernel, nothing happens. It looks like the only working jack is the
headphone jack.

[Bug 1377427] Re: white 1 pixel line on left edge of the screen since RTM image 81

Does it fix itself by locking/unlocking the screen a few times? I think
i saw that in the past and then went away and now maybe is back.

I am not totally sure that's unity8 fault tbh.

[Bug 1377820] [NEW] Computer not suspending when inactive in the main log-in prompt

2014-10-06 Thread Jan Corazza
Public bug reported:

#DESCRIPTION

My computer is set to automatically dim the screen and lock after 10
minutes, and suspend after an hour of inactivity.

That works fine - but only once I've logged in first.

If I switch the computer on and then leave it, it won't suspend,
although it will dim the screen.

#STEPS TO REPRODUCE

0. (computer is powered off)
1. boot computer
2. the log-in screen comes up
3. wait a couple of minutes, the screen will dim and switch off
4. wait for an hour

What happened: computer DIDN'T suspend
What I expected to happen: the computer would've suspended the same as if it
locked itself after I've logged in once.

[Bug 1307746] Re: pitivi crashed with SIGSEGV in __GI___pthread_mutex_lock()

2014-10-06 Thread Timo Jyrinki
I have a test version you can test on 14.04 LTS:
sudo apt-add-repository ppa:timo-jyrinki/ppa
sudo apt update
sudo apt install pitivi

You can revert to the old version with:
sudo apt install ppa-purge
sudo ppa-purge ppa:timo-jyrinki/ppa

I tested it and imported some ogg video and produced webm out of it
successfully. It also didn't break anything in that VM where pitivi
worked even originally. It still does have some problem drawing the
timeline, though, and patches in Debian didn't seem to fix the issue for
me so I didn't include them.

Testing would be welcome, even though the fixes should be first pushed
to 14.10 - the problem is that 14.10 has another crasher bug #1377804 so
even if this fix would be uploaded there, pitivi would still crash in
14.10. A somewhat functional version in 14.04 LTS might be worth it,
though.

Re: [Bug 1310965] Re: rhythm box overwrites track information

2014-10-06 Thread martin.wheatman
Hi Gordon,

I'm not so sure this is a bug, and I need to revisit the bug report.

I've checked out the headers within the MP3 files (something like):
od -a track.mp3 | head -50

This shows that some of the tracks do contain the wrong information;
however, file (track.mp3) hasn't been updated since 2011 - long before I
upgraded to 14.04. This would suggest that the file has always been
incorrect, but the old rhythmbox seemed somehow to display the correct
information.

However it got the correct information is not working. Maybe it would
be nice to have a cddb look up function in rhythmbox to update any old
tracks like this?

My ability to rip CDs has degraded, do you get that too?
