Re: [Bug 1389305] Re: sudo doesn't work on unprivileged lxc container
For one thing the lxc-create could warn the user (with the link to this bug report) if it finds, that the user is attempting to create a user-space container on top of the ecryptfs. I believe that should be fairly easy to implement. And I guess it is rather important to do, because user never gets a warning about the inherent incompatiblity between user-space containers and encrypted home folder (which is featured by the Ubuntu installer). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to lxc in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1389305 Title: sudo doesn't work on unprivileged lxc container To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ecryptfs-utils/+bug/1389305/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 1374166] Re: Document how to add swap space on Azure resource disk
Hi, these are the steps I've used to add a swap partition to my Ubuntu VM on Azure: 1) Add from Azure portal a new data disk (in my case I added 2 data disk, the first is a 100 GB disk, the second one is a 6GB size for swap partition) “/dev/sda” is the Azure VM OS disk; “/dev/sdb” is the Azure VM local temporary disk; “/dev/sdc” is the first Azure VM added data disk (100GB); “/dev/sdd” is the second Azure VM added data disk (6GB); 2) create a new swap partition on /dev/sdd. Use cfdisk as follows: # cfdisk /dev/sdd partition type: Primary FS type: Linux swap / Solaris (id 82) 3) mount swap partition on boot. # nano /etc/fstab append the following line and save the file: /dev/sdd1 noneswapsw 0 0 4) reboot the VM 5) create the swap partition. Use the following commands: # mkswap /dev/sdd1 # swapon /dev/sdd1 6) verify if partition has been successfully created: # cat /proc/swaps Hope this helps, Cracco -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to cloud-init in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1374166 Title: Document how to add swap space on Azure resource disk To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cloud-init/+bug/1374166/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 1284607] Re: resolvconf ignores given dns-servers in /etc/network/interfaces
Is dnsmasq getting its DNS server information from resolvconf, which in turn gets it from /etc/network/interfaces? Or, does dnsmasq take what it likes from /etc/network/interfaces directly, discarding the rest? 1. If you have only the dnsmasq-base and network-manager packages installed then a dnsmasq process is run as a slave of NetworkManager and gets its nameserver information exclusively from NetworkManager. This dnsmasq process provides name service exclusively at IP address 127.0.1.1. 2. If you have the dnsmasq package installed then a(nother) dnsmasq process is run independently of NetworkManager. By default this independent dnsmasq service is configured to obtain its nameserver information exclusively from resolvconf which in turn gets nameserver information from interface configuration processes including ifup, whose configuration file is /etc/network/interfaces. The fact that you have no /etc/dnsmasq.conf strongly suggests that you do not have the dnsmasq package installed and so you fall into class #1. Dnsmasq itself never looks in /etc/network/interfaces. To understand how resolvconf works, please consult /usr/share/doc/resolvconf/README.gz . To understand how Ubuntu uses NetworkManager, dnsmasq and resolvconf, please consult https://www.stgraber.org/2012/02/24/dns-in-ubuntu-12-04/ . ** Changed in: dnsmasq (Ubuntu) Status: New = Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to dnsmasq in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1284607 Title: resolvconf ignores given dns-servers in /etc/network/interfaces To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/dnsmasq/+bug/1284607/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 1389305] Re: sudo doesn't work on unprivileged lxc container on top of ecryptfs
apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected trusty ** Description changed: On Ubuntu 14.04 64 bit, after adding a user into an unprivileged container, the sudo complains that: $ sudo su sudo: effective uid is not 0, is /usr/bin/sudo on a file system with the 'nosuid' option set or an NFS file system without root privileges? To reproduce: 1. Download and install the Ubuntu amd64 minimalcd 2. Install lxc on it and openssh for convenience. 3. follow https://www.stgraber.org/2014/01/17/lxc-1-0-unprivileged-containers/ ; specifically do: a) sudo usermod --add-subuids 10-165536 $USER b) sudo usermod --add-subgids 10-165536 $USER c) sudo chmod +x $HOME d) create the file ~/.config/lxc/default.conf with the following contents: lxc.include = /etc/lxc/default.conf lxc.id_map = u 0 10 65536 lxc.id_map = g 0 10 65536 e) echo $USER veth lxcbr0 10 | sudo tee /etc/lxc/lxc-usernet (restart is not required) 4. Create the container with lxc-create -t download -n p1 -- -d ubuntu -r trusty -a amd64 5. Install openssh-server in the container: lxc-start -d -n p1 lxc-attach -n p1 -- apt-get install openssh-server 6. Add a user adam with the group sudo lxc-attach -n p1 -- adduser adam sudo 7. Set a password for the user 8. Log in via ssh (and provide the password from step 7) ssh p1@adam 9. On the p1: adam@p1$ sudo su sudo: effective uid is not 0, is /usr/bin/sudo on a file system with the 'nosuid' option set or an NFS file system without root privileges? [Bug 1366174] Re: apache2 SEGV with multiple SSL sites
2.4.10-8ubuntu1 is now in vivid-proposed and should fix this bug for Vivid and for future releases, but it won't land in Vivid itself until bug 1393832 is fixed. I'd like to focus on this SRU before working on that bug. Alex, could you please verify that the bug is fixed in vivid-proposed for you? Plain Vivid won't work. I suggest that you update to latest vivid, enable vivid-proposed and upgrade apache2's binary packages only to test, to avoid pulling various unrelated things in. So next, the SRU for this. This is a pretty extensive thing to SRU, but given the severity of the bug I think we should do it. I've spoken to Chris Arges (SRU team) and we considered options, and settled on using your backport provided that I give it a careful review, so I need to do this next. Chris will still have the final call though after I've uploaded. I'm not sure I'll manage to get it done today though (still at a sprint) and I'm on vacation next week. If I don't report back today, if another Ubuntu dev with upload rights wants to take on the review next week, please go ahead without any need to coordinate with me. Alex, thanks for your patience on this. I appreciate the work you've already put into this. One of the things we discussed at this sprint was on onboarding more developers to be able to take this sort of work on, so I hope that it won't take so long to process next time. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to the bug report. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1366174 Title: apache2 SEGV with multiple SSL sites To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/apache2/+bug/1366174/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears to be a regular (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy. [Bug 1395216] [NEW] NSEC3 validation fails for some wildcard records, in BIND pre-9.8.2b1 - consider updating 12.04LTS package
Public bug reported: In some situations (a non-tiny zone size), BIND9.8 pre-9.8.2b1 fails to correctly validate NSEC3 records covering wildcard names. This is recorded in BIND's CHANGES: 3175. [bug] Fix how DNSSEC positive wildcard responses from a NSEC3 signed zone are validated. Stop sending a unnecessary NSEC3 record when generating such responses. [RT #26200] Ubuntu's stock configuration enables DNSSEC validation (this is good), but with 12.04 LTS being likely to be in production use for many more years, it would be helpful if this fix was back-ported. See https://lists.isc.org/pipermail/bind-users/2014-November/094191.html for a recent example of this problem. Note that 14.04LTS uses BIND 9.9 which already contains this fix. This bug report is to request a fix to 12.04LTS. ** Affects: bind9 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to bind9 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1395216 Title: NSEC3 validation fails for some wildcard records, in BIND pre-9.8.2b1 - consider updating 12.04LTS package To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/bind9/+bug/1395216/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 1394891] [NEW] evim search fails with message: E486: Pattern not found: \\/\c followed by the string searched for
Public bug reported: Ubuntu Trusty 64 bit system built from the mini.iso with Openbox as the WM and sole DE as well. Vim version 2:7.4.052-1ubuntu3. Recently, search has started failing about half the time. In Evim, if I search for some string that IS there somewhere I'll get the following message: E486: Pattern not found: \\/\csome string that IS there somewhere as if it had prepended some stuff to what I what I wanted to search for and searched for that instead.
