[Bug 1396942] [NEW] libvirt/libxl: Do not use a path for the pygrub bootloader

2014-11-27 Thread Stefan Bader
Public bug reported:

This would be solved by the following upstream change (likely released
in 1.2.12):

commit d70a51d5ea0b9aecb429334714e8331f44fb9df7
Author: Ian Campbell ian.campb...@citrix.com
Date: Fri Nov 21 14:32:53 2014 +

libxl: Allow libxl to find pygrub binary.

Specifying an explicit path to pygrub (e.g. BINDIR /pygrub) only works if
Xen and libvirt happen to be installed to the same prefix. A more flexible
approach is to simply specify pygrub which will cause libxl to use the
correct path which it knows (since it is built with the same prefix as pygru

This is particular problematic in the Debian packaging, since the Debian Xen
package relocates pygrub into a libexec dir, however I think this change mak
sense upstream.

[Bug 1396959] [NEW] byobu-launcher in .profile should be protected if the file doesn't exist

2014-11-27 Thread Michał Sawicz
Public bug reported:

byobu-enable adds to ~/.profile:

 _byobu_sourced=1 . /usr/bin/byobu-launch

This line fails if the file doesn't exist, e.g. if you uninstalled byobu
or your profile is sourced in a chroot.

It could make sense to only try and source the file if it exists, or
ignoring the lack of it.

commit c159f9107b2184f1d8af546eae5a985a3627e7d9
Author: Adam Gandelman ad...@ubuntu.com
Date: Mon Oct 13 17:42:42 2014 -0700

Use response.text for returning unicode EC2 metadata

When serving meta-data that contains unicode, use the webob Response.text
instead of Response.body. This also adds a test that triggers the bug in
addition to testing that all meta-data offered by the server can be served.

[Bug 1024475] Re: libnss-ldap causes boot hang on Ubuntu 12.04 Precise

2014-11-27 Thread Claudio Kuenzler
I ran into this issue today and I'm very surprised this issue is that
old. This bug makes Ubuntu as an LDAP client unusable.

#17 did help for faster booting of the machine, but that's it. Any
command is still so slow, the machine is useless.

#2 tried it like this:
- Adapted init script /etc/init.d/libnss-ldap like mentioned
- created /etc/nsswitch.conf.local which does NOT contain ldap
- created /etc/nsswitch.conf.ldap which does contain ldap
This again works for a very fast boot, but once libnss-ldap is started (and
therefore the ldap version of nsswitch.conf becomes active), the system is
bloody slow again.

#1 works to regain a normal system with local logins but ldap logins
still time out.

[Bug 1024475] Re: libnss-ldap causes boot hang on Ubuntu 12.04 Precise

2014-11-27 Thread Björn K .
I ran into this issue several month ago. I tried every workaround I could find,
but nothing worked.
The debian documentation already warns that libnss-ldap has been orphaned. This
means that it does not have a real maintainer at the moment.
They suggest to use the alternative package libnss-ldapd. I tried it and all
problems are gone now.

[Bug 1396900] [NEW] restarting and reloading ssh doesn't work

2014-11-27 Thread Lukav
Public bug reported:

I have an install script that does various things including increasing ssh
security by altering config files.
After altering it does reload or restart as appropriate.
I've noticed that in ubuntu 14.04 it stopped working.
The cause of the problem is the function in /etc/init.d/ssh
check_for_upstart() {
if init_is_upstart; then
exit $1
fi
}

Before: start, reload and others it is called as:
check_for_upstart 1
Which basically means that if we have upstart installed and in use exit with an
error.
This kills my script since it has set -e option in case anything goes wrong as
in this case.

I'm not sure why this is written like this but if it really should exit
with an error it should at least state what the error is.

P.S. I've found the same behaviour in

Maxim, that will be unlikely, as the fix is actually a “feature” (it
adds new commandline option). But I hope we will have new gnome-session

[Bug 1339792] Re: Panel network icon - too much latency when network type changes

2014-11-27 Thread Jussi Pakkanen
Using i-n-sniffer it can be seen that the icon updates when ofono sends
a dbus signal telling that modem connection quality has changed. This
probably means that some event has been missed, so either:

1) i-n does not respond properly to some event it is getting
2) either ofono or NetworkManager is not sending a proper change event signal

Looking further...

[Bug 1396907] [NEW] Uncondicionally exchanging short filenames breaks userspace

2014-11-27 Thread Stefan Bader
Public bug reported:

SRU Justification:

Impact: Since v3.15 the link of /proc/pid/exe will unconditionally be
renamed to the previous name of a binary when the filename is short and
the binary was running. For example foo is a daemon and running while
dpkg installs a new version. dpkg will unpack as foo.dpkg-new first and
then rename to foo. After that /proc/pid/exe of the running foo daemon
will point to the (no non-existent) foo.dpkg-new. Which in turn causes
start-stop-daemon if that is used post-install to fail finding the
running instance.

Fix: Backport of the following upstream change (which came with v3.17):
  From d2fa4a8476b911782f7e5167db18770222ac40c3 Mon Sep 17 00:00:00 2001
  From: Mikhail Efremov s...@altlinux.org
  Date: Wed, 24 Sep 2014 22:14:33 +0400
Subject: [PATCH] vfs: Don't exchange short filenames unconditionally.

Only exchange source and destination filenames
  if flags contain RENAME_EXCHANGE.
In case if executable file was running and replaced by
other file /proc/PID/exe should still show correct file name,
not the old name of the file by which it was replaced.

Testcase: Any binary running that has a short (= DNAME_INLINE_LEN)
filename), copy the current binary to oldname.new and then move
oldname.new to oldname. Now /proc/pid/exe of the running process
points to oldname.new wihtout the change but remains to be oldname
with the patch.

[Bug 1396270] Re: specifying AppArmorProfile doesn't result in processes launched under the named profile

AppArmor enabled in http://anonscm.debian.org/cgit/pkg-

[Bug 1396804] Re: Name For Thunar Settings Launcher Is Unclear (thunar-settings.desktop)

2014-11-27 Thread Simon Steinbeiß
I acknowledge the problem, but for the moment I don't see a good solution for
this problem.
Renaming is problematic because:
 * it creates an inconsistency with other items in the Settings Manager
(Desktop vs. Desktop Settings, or Display vs. Display Settings)
 * the translations in the desktop file would all have to be updated.

We could also try to hide it from whisker-menu but keep showing it in
the Settings Manager, but that again would be inconsistent with the
other settings-items showing up in the list.

If anybody has good ideas on how to solve this, don't hesitate to
comment.

[Bug 1396919] [NEW] unity8 display blank in emulator, host utopic, rtm-14.09 instance.

2014-11-27 Thread Yuan-Chen Cheng
Public bug reported:

As run emulator, device screen is blank.

Step to reproduce:

1. install utopic.
2. sudo add-apt-repository ppa:phablet-team/tools
3. sudo apt-get install ubuntu-sdk
4. launch ubuntu-sdk and install chroot:click-ubuntu-sdk-14.10-armhf, and
chroot:click-ubuntu-sdk-14.10-i386
5. create device instance i386 / rtm-14.09 and launch it.

Expected result:
See ubuntu phone UI there.

Current result:
Emulator screen is black.

Extra Note:
1. On the pc, in the first run of the instance, I can see phone interface on
first boot after I kill -9 unity8 unity8-dash.
But this work around failed as I stop the instance and run again. I even
create the same instance with the other name
and try this work around, still can't see anything on the screen.
2. I can run test_glesv2 and see the result on the screen of the display
correctly.

[Bug 1396907] Re: Uncondicionally exchanging short filenames breaks userspace

2014-11-27 Thread Stefan Bader
** Description changed:

- From d2fa4a8476b911782f7e5167db18770222ac40c3 Mon Sep 17 00:00:00 2001
- From: Mikhail Efremov s...@altlinux.org
- Date: Wed, 24 Sep 2014 22:14:33 +0400
- Subject: [PATCH] vfs: Don't exchange short filenames unconditionally.
+   From d2fa4a8476b911782f7e5167db18770222ac40c3 Mon Sep 17 00:00:00 2001
+   From: Mikhail Efremov s...@altlinux.org
+   Date: Wed, 24 Sep 2014 22:14:33 +0400
+   Subject: [PATCH] vfs: Don't exchange short filenames unconditionally.

- Only exchange source and destination filenames
- if flags contain RENAME_EXCHANGE.
- In case if executable file was running and replaced by
- other file /proc/PID/exe should still show correct file name,
- not the old name of the file by which it was replaced.
+   Only exchange source and destination filenames
+   if flags contain RENAME_EXCHANGE.
+   In case if executable file was running and replaced by
+   other file /proc/PID/exe should still show correct file name,
+   not the old name of the file by which it was replaced.

Testcase: Any binary running that has a short (= DNAME_INLINE_LEN)
filename), copy the current binary to oldname.new and then move
oldname.new to oldname. Now /proc/pid/exe of the running process
points to oldname.new wihtout the change but remains to be oldname
  with the patch.

[Bug 1394841] Re: App and scope cannot run on the devel emulator

2014-11-27 Thread Zoltan Balogh
As discussed before the SDK can not know what framework a device what is
not connected (emulator not started) will support.

The developer can log into the device and run the `click framework list`
to see what framework the device supports. The latest versions of the
Ubuntu SDK tells in the message windows (bellow the source editing
window) the reason why the application could not be deployed.

[Bug 1396942] [NEW] libvirt/libxl: Do not use a path for the pygrub bootloader

2014-11-27 Thread Stefan Bader
Public bug reported:

This would be solved by the following upstream change (likely released
in 1.2.12):

commit d70a51d5ea0b9aecb429334714e8331f44fb9df7
Author: Ian Campbell ian.campb...@citrix.com
Date: Fri Nov 21 14:32:53 2014 +

libxl: Allow libxl to find pygrub binary.

Specifying an explicit path to pygrub (e.g. BINDIR /pygrub) only works if
Xen and libvirt happen to be installed to the same prefix. A more flexible
approach is to simply specify pygrub which will cause libxl to use the
correct path which it knows (since it is built with the same prefix as pygru

This is particular problematic in the Debian packaging, since the Debian Xen
package relocates pygrub into a libexec dir, however I think this change mak
sense upstream.

[Bug 1396907] Re: Unconditionally exchanging short filenames breaks userspace /proc/$$/exe links

2014-11-27 Thread Stefan Bader
** Description changed:

[Bug 1394847] Re: Only display those relevant and stable emulator channels to the developers

The Devel Proposed channel is the Vivid one. We support 5 channels in
two groups. The RTM is the one what is targeting the first device we
expect to arrive to the market and the Stable-Devel-DevelProposed trio
what are the Ubuntu releases.

Choosing the Custom channel you cab create emulator from the channels
listed by the `ubuntu-device-flash --list-channels`

It was specifically requested by the community team to provide channels
for these 6 channels. Please find dpm and mhall119 if you wish to reduce
the number of channels.

[Bug 1326688] Re: Can't disable panning on multiple monitors

2014-11-27 Thread Onno Kortmann
Hi,

I have a W520, too, and have exactly the same problems since an LTS-LTS
upgrade to 14.04. I now at least have a semi-workaround when starting
the display manager with two screens:

Using nvidia-settings, I was able to generate a xorg.conf file that
starts with a working two-screen configuration, without panning. File is
attached. I guess you'd either need to adjust the values specific to my
setup, or try to use nvidia-settings to generate a fresh configuration
file. Important hint is to click on 'Advanced...' at the bottom to get
the panning configuration.

However, when switching between single- and dual-screen modes, screen
panning will reappear and I have not figured out how to solve that yet.
Switching to single-screen mode works once, using

xrandr --output LVDS-0 --mode 1600x900 --pos 0x0 --output DP-0 --off
--output VGA-0 --off

Hope this helps.

I see that your change has made it to vivid

undesirable behavior: all DNS queries go to the VPN nameservers

That is in most cases the *desired* behavior, since only the VPN
nameservers have name information about both the VPN and the Internet.

Also, under what circumstances do you not trust the VPN with your DNS
traffic?

OK. Leave the resolvconf package installed; remove the symlink.

once you ifdown/ifup one of the dhcp interfaces, the resolv.conf got

It's not resolvconf doing that.

It was bug #1385010 ... that caused this.
