[Bug 1396942] [NEW] libvirt/libxl: Do not use a path for the pygrub bootloader

[Bug 1024475] Re: libnss-ldap causes boot hang on Ubuntu 12.04 Precise
I ran into this issue today and I'm very surprised this issue is that old. This bug makes Ubuntu as an LDAP client unusable. #17 did help for faster booting of the machine, but that's it. Any command is still so slow, the machine is useless. #2 tried it like this: - Adapted init script /etc/init.d/libnss-ldap like mentioned - created /etc/nsswitch.conf.local which does NOT contain ldap - created /etc/nsswitch.conf.ldap which does contain ldap This again works for a very fast boot, but once libnss-ldap is started (and therefore the ldap version of nsswitch.conf becomes active), the system is bloody slow again. #1 works to regain a normal system with local logins but ldap logins still time out. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to libnss-ldap in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1024475 Title: libnss-ldap causes boot hang on Ubuntu 12.04 Precise To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libnss-ldap/+bug/1024475/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

I ran into this issue several month ago. I tried every workaround I could find, but nothing worked. The debian documentation already warns that libnss-ldap has been orphaned. [Bug 1396900] [NEW] restarting and reloading ssh doesn't work
Public bug reported: I have an install script that does various things including increasing ssh security by altering config files. After altering it does reload or restart as appropriate. I've noticed that in ubuntu 14.04 it stopped working. The cause of the problem is the function in /etc/init.d/ssh check_for_upstart() { if init_is_upstart; then exit $1 fi } Before: start, reload and others it is called as: check_for_upstart 1 Which basically means that if we have upstart installed and in use exit with an error. This kills my script since it has set -e option in case anything goes wrong as in this case. [Bug 1396907] [NEW] Uncondicionally exchanging short filenames breaks userspace
Public bug reported: SRU Justification: Impact: Since v3.15 the link of /proc/pid/exe will unconditionally be renamed to the previous name of a binary when the filename is short and the binary was running. For example foo is a daemon and running while dpkg installs a new version. dpkg will unpack as foo.dpkg-new first and then rename to foo. After that /proc/pid/exe of the running foo daemon will point to the (no non-existent) foo.dpkg-new. Which in turn causes start-stop-daemon if that is used post-install to fail finding the running instance. Fix: Backport of the following upstream change (which came with v3.17): From d2fa4a8476b911782f7e5167db18770222ac40c3 Mon Sep 17 00:00:00 2001 From: Mikhail Efremov s...@altlinux.org Date: Wed, 24 Sep 2014 22:14:33 +0400 Subject: [PATCH] vfs: Don't exchange short filenames unconditionally. Only exchange source and destination filenames if flags contain RENAME_EXCHANGE. In case if executable file was running and replaced by other file /proc/PID/exe should still show correct file name, not the old name of the file by which it was replaced. Testcase: Any binary running that has a short (= DNAME_INLINE_LEN) filename), copy the current binary to oldname.new and then move oldname.new to oldname. Now /proc/pid/exe of the running process points to oldname.new wihtout the change but remains to be oldname with the patch. break-fix: da1ce0670c14d8380e423a3239e562a1dc15fa9e d2fa4a8476b911782f7e5167db18770222ac40c3 ** Affects: linux (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Affects: linux (Ubuntu Utopic) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: linux (Ubuntu Utopic) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Bug watch added: Debian Bug tracker #763831 http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=763831 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1396907 Title: Uncondicionally exchanging short filenames breaks userspace To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1396907/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1396804] Re: Name For Thunar Settings Launcher Is Unclear (thunar-settings.desktop)
I acknowledge the problem, but for the moment I don't see a good solution for this problem. Renaming is problematic because: * it creates an inconsistency with other items in the Settings Manager (Desktop vs. Desktop Settings, or Display vs. Display Settings) * the translations in the desktop file would all have to be updated. We could also try to hide it from whisker-menu but keep showing it in the Settings Manager, but that again would be inconsistent with the other settings-items showing up in the list. [Bug 1326688] Re: Can't disable panning on multiple monitors
Hi, I have a W520, too, and have exactly the same problems since an LTS-LTS upgrade to 14.04. I now at least have a semi-workaround when starting the display manager with two screens: Using nvidia-settings, I was able to generate a xorg.conf file that starts with a working two-screen configuration, without panning. File is attached. I guess you'd either need to adjust the values specific to my setup, or try to use nvidia-settings to generate a fresh configuration file. Important hint is to click on 'Advanced...' at the bottom to get the panning configuration. However, when switching between single- and dual-screen modes, screen panning will reappear and I have not figured out how to solve that yet. Switching to single-screen mode works once, using xrandr --output LVDS-0 --mode 1600x900 --pos 0x0 --output DP-0 --off --output VGA-0 --off Hope this helps. ** Attachment added: xorg.conf file working on W520 for dual screen without panning https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/1326688/+attachment/4269592/+files/xorg.conf -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1326688 Title: Can't disable panning on multiple monitors To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/1326688/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1394081] Re: Add manual options for administrators
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1385010 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1385010 did not know I am stepping on your toe here No toes being stepped on here. had to take care of this, so I generate the resolv.conf from a package - no link anymore OK. Leave the resolvconf package installed; remove the symlink. once you ifdown/ifup one of the dhcp interfaces, the resolv.conf got overwritten It's not resolvconf doing that. It was bug #1385010 ... that caused this. Ah, glad you figured it out. I'll merge this report with that one. ** This bug has been marked a duplicate of bug 1385010 Unexpected behavior: make_resolv_conf is not undefined if /etc/resolv.conf is not a symlink -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1394081 Title: Add manual options for administrators To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/resolvconf/+bug/1394081/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
