[Bug 1397277] Re: Kernel dead after suspend/resume at i915

2014-11-28 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
olegon.ru, could you please test the latest upstream kernel available
from the very top line at the top of the page (the release names are
irrelevant for testing, and please do not test the daily folder)
following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ? It will allow
additional upstream developers to examine the issue.

If the test did not allow you to test to the issue (ex. you couldn't boot into
the OS) please make a comment in your report about this, and continue to test
the next most recent kernel version until you can test to the issue. Once
you've tested the upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel version
specifically you tested. If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please
add the following tags:
kernel-fixed-upstream
kernel-fixed-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

where VERSION-NUMBER is the version number of the kernel you tested exactly
shown as:
kernel-fixed-upstream-3.18-rc6

This can be done by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil
icon next to the word Tags located at the bottom of the bug description.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the following tags:
kernel-bug-exists-upstream
kernel-bug-exists-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug's
Status as Confirmed. Please let us know your results. Thank you for your
understanding.

2014-11-28 Thread michele.antogn...@gmail.com
It's a problem with the gpg signature of the repository. With an app as
"y ppa manager" you can go to the advanced section and execute the "try
to fil all GPG BADSIG errors". I don't know others ways but that's a
working trik.

[Bug 1396325] Re: Aw, snap! In chromium after youtube video

2014-11-28 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Joshua Hopp, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better.
However, your crash report is missing. Please follow these instructions to have
apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the
automatic retracer. First, execute at a terminal:
cd /var/crash && sudo rm * ; sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get -y upgrade &&
sudo service apport start force_start=1

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable
apport in /etc/default/apport and restart.

Now reproduce the crash, then open your file manager, navigate to your
/var/crash directory and open the crash report you wish to submit.
If this fails you will have to open a terminal and file your report with
'ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash' where _my_crash_report.crash is
the crash you would like to report. If you get an error that you aren't allowed
to access this report you will have to file it with 'sudo ubuntu-bug
/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash'. If you run the command against the crash
report and a window pops up asking you to report this, but then never opens a
new report, you would be affected by
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apport/+bug/994921 . In order to
WORKAROUND this, one would need to open the following file via a command line:
sudo nano /etc/apport/crashdb.conf

and comment out the line:
'problem_types': ['Bug', 'Package'],

by changing it to:
# 'problem_types': ['Bug', 'Package'],

Save, close, and try to file the crash report again via:
ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently.

Please do not attach your crash report manually to this report and
reopen it.

Thank you for your understanding.

[Bug 1387695]

2014-11-28 Thread Andreldm1989-j
I guess the first one is more sensible, the second is too much clutter.

I'm tinkering the source, but I don't know how we could call this option:
"Use base 1024 for filesize"?
"Display filesize in IEC units"?

Also, where should this option be put? Preferences -> Display -> Default
View? Or a new section in Display tab?

Hi Andre,

Thanks for taking this on. :D

I had seen this setting in Cinammon's Nemo file manager. In its
'Display' preferences tab, they had a section titled 'File Size' and
then a field label 'Prefixes' next to a drop down menu which contained
'Decimal' and 'Binary'. I hope this helps.

[Bug 1368418] Re: Fatal RPython error: KeyError/Crash in JIT!

2014-11-28 Thread Stefano Rivera
** Description changed:

Trusty's pypy 2.2.1+dfsg-1 package seems to be affected by PyPy bugs
  https://bitbucket.org/pypy/pypy/issue/1669 and
  https://bitbucket.org/pypy/pypy/issue/1694/ (which are probably
duplicates manifesting in a couple ways). This bug is fixed in
  https://bitbucket.org/pypy/pypy/commits/5ca1994 . Trusty should pull
this fix into the pypy package.

Note this definitely affects some python projects. `git clone
  https://git.openstack.org/openstack/zaqar.git && cd zaqar && tox -e
pypy` will trigger this. With the pypy 2.3.1+dfsg-1~ppa1 package I'm
  unable to reproduce the error.

  Now for details, broken using:
  $ lsb_release -rd
  Description: Ubuntu 14.04.1 LTS
  Release: 14.04
  $ apt-cache policy pypy
  pypy:
- Installed: 2.2.1+dfsg-1
- Candidate: 2.2.1+dfsg-1
- Version table:
- *** 2.2.1+dfsg-1 0
- 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ trusty/universe amd64
Packages
- 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
+   Installed: 2.2.1+dfsg-1
+   Candidate: 2.2.1+dfsg-1
+   Version table:
+  *** 2.2.1+dfsg-1 0
+ 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ trusty/universe amd64
Packages
+ 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

  [Impact]

This bug can cause processes that tickle it to crash PyPy's JIT. This
means there could be a significant number of Python programs that are
broken when run under this interpreter. The fix for this bug should be
backported to avoid seemingly random and hard to debug JIT crashes from
  happening when users use pypy.

  [Test Case]
+
+ Download main.py and python.zip from
https://bitbucket.org/pypy/pypy/issue/1669
+ unzip, and place main.py inside the python directory
+ Run pypy main.py.
+ It'll either crash immediately, or start outputting some lines of text
(equaling success)
+
+ [Test Case - No longer relevant, worked around]

  git clone https://git.openstack.org/openstack/zaqar.git
  cd zaqar
  tox -e pypy
  # This should end with aborting during test discovery. Note if you don't have
tox installed you will need to install version 1.7.2 or greater. `sudo pip
install tox==1.7.2` will do this.

  [Regression Potential]

The patch in question is small. If we go straight to pypy 2.3.x the diff
will be larger but that isn't necessary to fix this particular issue.
The biggest regression potential would be that heap cache management
ends up broken by the this bug fix.

Sam, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. As per
www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/product-support/product/latitude-e4310/drivers
an update to your BIOS is available (A14). If you update to this following
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate does it change anything? If it
doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the output of
the following terminal command:
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date

For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette
.

Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so
posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful. As well, you don't
have to create a new bug report.

Once the BIOS is updated, then please mark this report Status New.

Thank you for your understanding.

[Bug 1395733] Re: I can't say what is wrong

2014-11-28 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
RainerW, thank you for taking the time to report this and helping to
make Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because
your description didn't include enough information. You may find it
helpful to read "How to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html and
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs . We'd be grateful if you would
then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. The specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. The behavior you expected, and
3. The behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).

Thank you for your understanding.

[Bug 1397492] [NEW] intel driver with SNA as AccelMethod SNA has slow (~2-3 seconds) VTY switch time

2014-11-28 Thread David
Public bug reported:

Background:
* in ubuntu 14.04 uxa was the default AccelMethod - switching vty takes nearly
no time at all.
* in ubuntu 14.10 sna is the default AccelMethod - switching vty takes 2-3
seconds and the screen blanks and then returns.

By switching the AccelMethod back to 'uxa' in ubuntu 14.10 the 2-3
second vty switch time goes away (becomes near instant again!). I am
reporting this bug to ubuntu because I am not sure if it is xmir & sna
related or not.

[Bug 692554] Re: Autocomplete fails on some filenames

2014-11-28 Thread Peter Cordes
Hmm, well what's crossing it up is the embedded newline in the filename.

_filedir does
local IFS=$'\n'
...
   x=$( compgen -f -X "$xspec" -- "$quoted" ) &&
while read -r tmp; do
toks+=( "$tmp" )
done <<< "$x"
...

if [[ ${#toks[@]} -ne 0 ]]; then
# 2>/dev/null for direct invocation, e.g. in the _filedir unit test
compopt -o filenames 2>/dev/null
COMPREPLY+=( "${toks[@]}" )
fi

and apparently it's the COMPREPLY+= line where the error pops up. At
least, that's the last line that shows in the set -xv output, so maybe
the caller, is where it's getting used in a way that lets the shell get
at the backquote.

If you leave out the \n in the filename, it works fine. If you leave
out the `, but keep the newline, you get weirdness. (completes the
filename, but thinks it's ambiguous, and lists all files in the
directory.) Probably because you get an empty element in your COMPREPLY
array. No idea how the backquote comes into it.

So I guess if you have embedded newlines in your filenames, best to
just use alt-/ to complete them. Working with embedded newlines sucks,
in shell programming.

[Bug 1397277] Re: Kernel dead after suspend/resume at i915

2014-11-28 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
olegon.ru, as per
http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/swd/public/readIndex?sp4ts.oid=5229499&swLangOid=8&swEnvOid=4059
an update to your BIOS is available (F.50). If you update to this following
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate does it change anything? If it
doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the output of
the following terminal command:
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date

For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette
.

Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so
posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful. As well, you don't
have to create a new bug report.

Once the BIOS is updated, then please mark this report Status Confirmed.

Thank you for your understanding.

[Bug 1397491] [NEW] /etc/init.d/cups restart or stop failure

2014-11-28 Thread -Ted Merrill
Public bug reported:

I've observed on several occasions that i've been unable to get the cups
daemon to respond to changes in configuration files and have been unable
to log in as administrator via the web interface when i know that i
should be able to; even though i did "/etc/init.d/cups restart".
Finally figured it out! I did "/etc/init.d/cups stop" and using ps
noticed 4 or 5 cupsd processes running! After killing all these off
(oddly enough, a new one was spawned in their place), i did
"/etc/init.d/cups start" and all was well!

Based on my web search (which lead me to try this) this problem has been
around for several years... sigh.

Thanks to whoever might bring sanity to this.

Using fglrx or fglrx-updates it's no problem with suspend and resume, while

[Bug 1396011] Re: (i915) Black screen resuming from suspend

2014-11-28 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Nikke, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better.
Could you please test the latest upstream kernel available from the very
top line at the top of the page (the release names are irrelevant for
testing, and please do not test the daily folder) following
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ? It will allow additional
upstream developers to examine the issue.

It's too long hibernation time and no idea to save environment while
moving...

Tried simple switch tty1-tty7 - no problem...

[Bug 298799] Re: No tab completion when using quote (")

2014-11-28 Thread Peter Cordes
Yeah, I'm not seeing the OP's bug at all, even when sourcing Trusty's

The directories inside quotes problem is a different thing. Marked as
fixed, prob. by upstream ages ago.

[Bug 1396019] Re: ubuntu 14.04

2014-11-28 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
AboAlfadl, thank you for taking the time to report this and helping to
make Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because
your description didn't include enough information. You may find it
helpful to read "How to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html and
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs . We'd be grateful if you would
then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. The specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. The behavior you expected, and
3. The behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).

Thank you for your understanding.

Very ektualnoe comment! It is a pity that at the outset did not know
about this condition ... Now we have to perform reset through mmm! And
again, it is not clear why - very bad language support and unstable work
keyboard layout, very "raw" material and weight of various defects ...
I'm not happy with this software! Third-party developers in the years
ahead Canonical and direct command Linux Mint !!!

[Bug 1397487] Re: Philips GoGear Vibe MP3 Player is not properly recoginized on Ubuntu 14.04

2014-11-28 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Roberto González Correa, thank you for reporting this and helping make
Ubuntu better. Could you please test the latest upstream kernel
available from the very top line at the top of the page (the release
names are irrelevant for testing, and please do not test the daily
folder) following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ? It will
allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue.

[Bug 1397487] [NEW] Philips GoGear Vibe MP3 Player is not properly recoginized on Ubuntu 14.04

2014-11-28 Thread Roberto González Correa
Public bug reported:

I have a Philips GoGear Vibe Mp3 player that worked fine on Ubuntu
12.04. Recently, I installed Ubuntu 14.04 LTS (64 bits) on the same
machine and my deviced didn't work properly anymore: when I open it, I
see an icon named 'Internal Storage' inside. If I right-click outside
the icon (but inside the GoGear Vibe folder) to see GoGear properties,
Nautilus says it only has 1 element, with a size of 0 bytes. Also, if I
ask for GoGear's permissions, Nautilus says they couldn't be determined.
If I open 'Internal Storage', nautilus only shows an empty folder (no
files inside, see the attached screenshots for details).

On Ubuntu 12.04, I opened my device and all it's content was shown
directly without any problem. Also, there wasn't any 'Internal Storage'
icon.

This is probably related to bug 1214765, and question 228269.

[Bug 1397486] [NEW] gfvs freezes nautilus after switching networks

2014-11-28 Thread Rocko
Public bug reported:

To replicate:

1. Connect to a SFTP or Samba share via nautilus.

2. Change networks, eg by suspending and resuming in a different
location or by manually forcing a change to a network. For instance, I
change from a 10.1.1.x network to a 192.168.10.x network and back again.

3. Open nautilus.

The expected result is that nautilus should open immediately.

The actual result is that nautilus does not open for some minutes.

The workaround is to manually kill the gvfsd-smb and/or gvfsd-ssh
processes. So there is some timeout issue in gvfs that is freezing
nautilus. If the gvfsd-* processes cannot see the mounted shared drive,
this should not prevent nautilus from functioning properly.

This is an issue in both Ubuntu 14.04 and 14.10.

[Bug 692554] Re: Autocomplete fails on some filenames

2014-11-28 Thread Peter Cordes
Looked into this some, and I think I might have a fix. The problem is
the backquote, and what we're seeing here is related to the reports of
completion inside $( failing.

the progcomp code uses a lot of constructs like eval $z=$foo, to assign by
reference to a variable whose name is stored as $z.
e.g.
z=myvar
foo='`test'
eval $z="$foo"
bash: unexpected EOF while looking for matching ``'
bash: syntax error: unexpected end of file

The trick is to single-quote $foo, so parameter expansion doesn't happen on it
at the same time as $z.
eval $z='$foo'
echo $myvar
`test

I'll post a patch after I go through the file and fix what I find.

[Bug 1397483] [NEW] Unity restores windows to random workspaces on system resume

2014-11-28 Thread Rocko
Public bug reported:

When I suspend and resume my latop, my windows, which were originally
all in one workspace, are restored to different workspaces (apparently
at random).

For windows not in the current workspace after resume, the unity
launcher indicates that they are running, but clicking on them has no
effect (it doesn't bring the window to the foreground). These windows
also do not appear in the task switcher so you can't switch to them.

If I have workspaces enabled, this is annoying but can be manually
corrected by showing all workspaces and dragging the windows to the
current workspace.

If I have workspaces disabled, the windows on the disabled workspaces
cannot be accessed at all.

I would expect the windows to be restored to the same workspace they
were in before suspend (especially if workspaces are disabled), and even
if this were not the case, clicking on their icon in the launcher should
display them as normal.

IIRC this is an issue in Ubuntu 14.04 as well as in Ubuntu 14.10.

  current workspace.

+ IIRC this is an issue in Ubuntu 14.04 as well as in Ubuntu 14.10.

[Bug 1392504] Re: USB Passthrough is not working anymore

2014-11-28 Thread Joe Hickey
I just noticed that after I applied the latest updates (apt-get dist-
ugrade) to my Ubuntu 14.04 system that USB redirection is now failing on
THIS system as well - just like the 14.10 system failed.

FWIW, I do not see any apparomor denial messages in /var/log/syslog or
anywhere else. So far I've not found anything to indicate why
passthrough failed, seems like a silent failure whatever it is.

OK. I removed the bcmwl proprietary driver. I downloaded the 3 .deb
files for amd64. You provide no procedure for performing that download
in any obvious way. For example how am I supposed to obtain the proper
names for a wget command or to download them by ftp to a specific
directory. In Firefox double clicking on each entry downloads it into
the Downloads directory, not into the recommended separate directory.
This is part of what I mean when I say your documentation is vague. I
installed, and booted. The system now boots on kernel 3.18-rc6. There
is no observable change in behavior from kernel 3.16. The system
displays disk activity consistent with normal resume processing, but the
back-light on my display is not turned on, so I have no choice but to
manually reboot even though the system is completely operational in all
other respects. For example I can ssh, ftp, even http to the system.

Kernel 3.16 seems to have resolved all of the actual suspend/resume
problems I had on previous releases. But at least most of the time the
earlier kernels and drivers would turn on the back-light when they felt
like resuming at all.

I would stop bothering the kernel group and the X.org team if someone
would just give me a manual command to turn on the damn light! I can
ssh into the system to issue the command.

[Bug 1397401] Re: Ubuntu upgrade fails

2014-11-28 Thread John Hopkin
Sorry, I thought the automatically-filled details would give context, so
I wasn't very clear in the description.

I know how to start the upgrade from 12.04 to 14.04, but when I do that
I get the error message I pasted at the top of the description. I've
amended the description to reflect this.

I tried the terminal command you suggest - it ran for several minutes
with no visible output and stopped. Attempting to update after that
still gave the original error.

[Bug 298799] Re: No tab completion when using quote (")

2014-11-28 Thread Peter Cordes
works for me, at least after applying the fix for bug 1387057 (properly
quoting "$quoted"). On Trusty. This is probably the same bug.

 Or maybe not: I'm seeing
$ echo ./"./foo[TAB]  turns into
$ echo ./"././foo

 every [TAB] adds another ./

foo does get expanded to the longest common prefix of multiple possible
matches, though.

So programmable completion still isn't exactly rock solid with quotes.

[Bug 219406] Re: bash autocomplete broken when a : is in the path

2014-11-28 Thread Peter Cordes
Apparently this is a known problem that can't be fixed. /usr/share/doc
/bash-completion/README.gz FAQ says:

Q. Completion goes awry when I try to complete on something that contains
   a colon.

A. This is actually a 'feature' of bash. bash recognises a colon as
starting a new completion token, which is often what you want when
completing something like a PATH variable:

   $ export PATH=/bin:/sbin:/usr

Without the special treatment of the colon, the above wouldn't work
without programmable completion, so it has long been a feature of
   the shell.

Unfortunately, you don't want the colon to be treated as a special
   case when doing something like:

   $ man File::B

Here, the colons make bash think that it's completing the a new
   token that begins with 'B'.

Unfortunately, there's no way to turn this off. The only thing you
can do is escape the colons with a backslash.

So, just quote your : as \:, and roll your eyes or whatever you have to do.

I would change this to Won'tfix, but apparently ordinary mortals can't
do that.

[Bug 1382843] Re: corrupted double-linked list

2014-11-28 Thread Janne Moren
This may be the same bug I hit all the time since upgrading to 14.10.
Shotwell is all but unusable right now. The situation is the same. It
seems to happen in these cases:

* I try to upload things to Flickr and it starts opening the upload dialog;
* It uploaded, but then I try to remove the flag on the selected picture with
ctrl-g;
* Once it died just from trying to scroll the image list.

But the message I get is somewhat different from above. One of these
two, generally:

*** Error in `shotwell': free(): invalid size: 0x10fa7eb0 ***
Avbruten (SIGABRT) (minnesutskrift skapad)

*** Error in `shotwell': malloc(): memory corruption (fast): 0x11b6a290
***
Avbruten (SIGABRT) (minnesutskrift skapad)

It happens with the latest version as of today (0.20.2), and the
previous version. I've attached a backtrace and a log.

[Bug 484628] Re: bash-completion needs match "fallback" function

2014-11-28 Thread Peter Cordes
another workaround: as /usr/share/doc/bash-completion/README.gz
suggests, use M-/ to use bash's builtin filename completion, rather than
calling the programmable completion functions. That will complete on
any filename, since it doesn't have any command-specific filtering.
