[Bug 1394327] Re: unmapping of persistent grants in qemu

2014-12-11 Thread Stefan Bader
SRU justification:

Impact: As soon as dom0 starts qemu it will try to locally attach
QCOW(2) images in case a PV guest is using those. This results in the
described errors and sometimes the whole host is rendered unusable.

Fix: Cherry picking an upstream patch (which was done already for Vivid)
resolves the issues.

Testcase: Prepare a PV guest that uses a QCOW2 image and try to start
it. Depends on Xen starting dom0 (bug #1396068).

[Bug 1396068] Re: [Xen/xl] dom0 needs to run qemu for qcow access

2014-12-11 Thread Stefan Bader
SRU justification:

Impact: Without starting a QEMU instance for dom0 it is not possible to
use advanced disk image types for PV guests because pygrub then cannot
peek into them to pick kernel images to start. However this setup is the
default for nova-xen (openstack).

Fix: Picking up changes from Debian (and now also in Vivid already) to
the init script which starts and stops QEMU for dom0.

Testcase: After package upgrade and subsequent reboots there is a qemu-
system-i386 process attached to dom0.

[Bug 1401148] Re: Re/starting an lxc container corrupts all network namespaces on the same physical host

2014-12-11 Thread Stefan Bader
So for now I added also a task for the kernel, though the truth (if such a
thing exists) could be somewhere between. Serge, Stephane, what we probably
need to figure out is what exactly lxc-start tries to get done when slave
mounting /run/netns. And somehow it might be possible that it needs improvement
for the case that this is denied or fails. Looking at it from the outside it
feels like going on assuming it got its own space but actually continuing to
use the host space.
The other thing would be that this sound like lxc-start would require a rule to
actually allow it to do that mount of /run/netns.

[Bug 1401148] Re: Re/starting an lxc container corrupts all network namespaces on the same physical host

2014-12-11 Thread Stéphane Graber
so I think it's some systemd handling which does that. LXC unshares the
mnt namespace which gets it a copy of the host's, then it's doing some
magic (rprivate I believe) to get things working under systemd, then
mounts what it needs, unmounts everything else and pivot_root.

lxc itself has no code to deal with /run/netns, so it's not special
casing it.

[Bug 1401570] [NEW] libvirt 1.2.2 old xml file when rebooting

2014-12-11 Thread krypton
Public bug reported:

We are working on an Ubuntu 14.04 tls server with qemu libvirt.

We are running a virtual machine and we make snapshots through:

virsh snapshot-create-as $name $date --diskspec
$device,file=$path$name/$name_$date.$extension --disk-only
--atomic

Everything good so far, this is running for almost 3 years now. But
since we updated from libvirt 1.0.2 (ubuntu 12.04) to libvirt 1.2.2
(package version 13.7), we are having problems.

After we make a snapshot and reboot the host server, we have after the
restart an old xml file !

Steps to reproduce:

- starting VM
- virsh edit vmname (you'll see at the source ...name.qcow2)
- now create snapshot (command above)
- virsh edit vmname (now you'll see in the source, the snapshotname
...snapshotname.qcow2)

- now rebooting the server
- after reboot: virsh edit vmname (and you'll see the old XML file = source
...name.qcow2 instead of ...snapshotname.qcow2)

We have succesfully reproduced this bug at a clean system, fully
updated.

[Bug 1240054] Re: ec2-facts not shown when running in AWS VPC

2014-12-11 Thread Devon P. Hubner
This is still a problem on Ubuntu 14.04.1 with puppet 3.4.3 and facter 1.7.5.
Interestingly, on Amazon Linux 2014.09 with puppet 2.7.25 and facter 1.6.18,
the EC2_* facts are present.

The latest version of the gem appears to have completely refactored the
ec2.rb facts:
https://github.com/puppetlabs/facter/blob/master/lib/facter/ec2.rb

The latest 1.7.x gem release is still broken:
https://github.com/puppetlabs/facter/releases/tag/1.7.6d

The 1.6.18 gem has the same broken ec2 code:
https://github.com/puppetlabs/facter/releases/tag/1.6.18

Looking at the amzn1 source rpm, it appears Amazon is patching the facter gem
when packaging it:

The only way I can get this to work is to add

mount,

to /etc/apparmor.d/abstractions/lxc/start-container

If I add something like

mount options=slave
remount options=slave

that does not suffice.

[Bug 1401148] Re: Re/starting an lxc container corrupts all network namespaces on the same physical host

2014-12-11 Thread Serge Hallyn
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1350947 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1350947

It appears that as tyhicks pointed out this is a dup of bug 1350947.

[Bug 1350947] Re: apparmor: no working rule to allow making a mount private

2014-12-11 Thread Serge Hallyn
Apparmor is recognizing make-slave', not slave. While apparmor will
be updated to accept 'slave' we should update the lxc policies to use
'make-slave' in the meantime.

Assigning this to Stéphane as he hasn't yet had a chance to show me the new
git-dpm packaging process :)

[Bug 1350947] Re: apparmor: no working rule to allow making a mount private

2014-12-11 Thread Tyler Hicks
As a result of the slave versus make-slave revelation, I've created
two upstream AppArmor bugs. The first is for the AppArmor documentation
being wrong about the acceptable mount option strings (bug #1401619).
The second is for the AppArmor parser accepting unknown mount option
strings (bug #1401621).

Since the fix for this specific bug will come as an lxc update, I'm
going to mark the AppArmor tasks in this bug as invalid and use the two
bugs mentioned above.

** Changed in: apparmor
   Status: Confirmed = Invalid

** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu)
   Status: Confirmed = Invalid

** Description changed:

+ NOTE: This bug will be fixed with an update to lxc. However, two
+ AppArmor bugs (bug #1401619 and bug #1401621) were identified as a
+ result of triaging this bug and they will both be fixed in upstream
+ AppArmor.
+
When the file system is mounted as MS_SHARED by default (such as under
systemd, or when the admin configures it so), things like schroot or LXC
need to make their guest mounts private. This currently fails under
  utopic:

  $ sudo lxc-create -t busybox -n c1
  $ sudo mount --make-rshared /
  $ sudo strace -fvvs1024 -e mount  lxc-start -n c1
  [...]
  [pid 10749] mount(NULL, /, NULL, MS_SLAVE, NULL) = -1 EACCES (Permission
denied)
lxc-start: Permission denied - Failed to make / rslave

  dmesg says:
  audit: type=1400 audit(1406825005.687:551): apparmor=DENIED operation=mo
  unt info=failed flags match error=-13 profile=/usr/bin/lxc-start
name=/ pid=8228 co
  mm=lxc-start flags=rw, slave

(This happens for all mount points on your system, I'm just showing the
  first one)

This will leave a couple of leaked mounts on your system. This is an
useful rune to clean them up:

  $ for i in 1 2 3; do sudo umount `mount|grep lxc|awk '{print $3}'`; done

(needs to be done several times; check with mount |grep lxc that it's
  clean)

I tried to allow that by adding this to /etc/apparmor.d/abstractions/lxc
  /start-container:

    mount options=(rw, slave) - **,

then reload the policy and rety with

$ sudo stop lxc; sudo start lxc; sudo lxc-start -n c1

(and again clean up the mounts with above rune)

I tried some variations of this, like

mount options in (rw, slave, rslave, shared, rshared) - **,

but none of them worked. The only things that do work are one of

    mount,
    mount - **,

but those are too lax to be an effective security restriction.

  WORKAROUND
  ==
(Attention: insecure! Don't use for production machines)

  Add this to /etc/apparmor.d/abstractions/lxc/start-container:

-mount,
-
+    mount,

[Bug 1401658] [NEW] Host veth mtu not preserved during container reboot

2014-12-11 Thread James Page
Public bug reported:

LXC containers configured with lxc.network.mtu = 9000

On start/restart using lxc-* commands, the mtu on the host and in
container interface is correctly set to 9000.

However, if the container is rebooted internally, the mtu of the veth on
the host resets to 1500, whilst the container interface is still set to
9000.

This causes some odd network behaviour.

[Bug 1396568] Re: saslauthd allow authentication after user deletion until it is restarted

2014-12-11 Thread Marc Deslauriers
By default, saslauthd caches credentials.

The cache and timeout are set by the -c and -t command line options.

You can disable caching by removing the -c from /etc/default/saslauthd,
or adjust the timeout from the default 28800 seconds by adding -t to it.

I've given up on ubuntu having a good version and just wrote my own script
to get the newest go-lang installed.

Kind of unfortunate to require this effort.

   Confirmed

 Bug description:
Go 1.3.1 was released on 2014 Aug 3. This is a major release ahead of
the package currently available for trusty and other versions of

The reason I am requesting this update is because Go 1.2.1 has a bug
that is fixed in Go 1.3.1 and this bug affects one of my projects.

Thank you for your continued support!

[Bug 1365874] Re: Ubuntu 14.04 does not support ext4 metadata checksumming

2014-12-11 Thread Oleksij Rempel
I would love to help with testing of metadata_csum as match as possible.
Espesially becouse i waiting for this option so long time. But there are two
problem which make it hard to do:
- no e2fsprogs 1.43 package even on ppa.
- all systems are still created without 64bit enabled.

Before testing we need:
- add 64bit option to mke2fs.conf by default.
- make 1.42 not complain if metadata_csum is enabled.
- provide ppa package with big fat warning: don't cry if you test it
