[Bug 1401658] Re: Host veth mtu not preserved during container reboot

2014-12-12 Thread James Page
I think I see what the problem is; the containers on these hosts where
created with mtu 1500; i then updated the configuration files to set the
mtu to 9000 + set the veth mtu's to 9000 using:

ip link set veth mtu 9000

This means that the container was started using an mtu of 1500 not 9000.

Rebooting the container internally results in the host mtu re-setting to
1500.

This is a general side effect of trying to massage mtu's to 9000 to
support jumbo frames in openstack deployments.

[Bug 1355813] Re: LXC containers reset bridge MTU on start/restart

2014-12-12 Thread James Page
I've re-titled this bug to be about effective interface MTU management
across MAAS and Juju; enabling Jumbo frames is something that we should
support in our core tooling and is critical for the successful operation
of a Neutron based OpenStack Cloud.

Combine this with LXC container spread across physical servers and right
now this is fiddly and error prone.

[Bug 1401658] Re: Host veth mtu not preserved during container reboot

2014-12-12 Thread Serge Hallyn
So the problem for you is that juju creates the containers with the
wrong mtu?

I don't know where juju gets its config file, (that it passes to 'lxc-
create -f but the best solution appears to be to update that to set the
mtu before the containers are ever created.

Thanks for reporting this bug.

It looks like your host has downloaded some corrupted or truncated
package files. Could you please re-try by doing:

sudo apt-get clean
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install -f
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

and let us know whether that succeeds.

[Bug 1402005] Re: agent-state-info: 'error executing lxc-start: command get_cgroup failed to receive response'

2014-12-12 Thread Serge Hallyn
Thanks for reporting this bug.

If there is a simple way to reproduce this (spin up ami-xx on
amazon and do 'juju deploy whatzit), please show it here.

Which release are you on, and which ppas do you have installed?

What do the following show:
dpkg -l | egrep -e (lxc|apparmor|cgmanager)
ps -ef | egrep -e (cgproxy|cgmanager)

Can you find the lxcpath juju uses and the container name, and try
starting the container by hand? I.e. if it is /var/lib/juju/lxc and
the container name is foo, then do

sudo lxc-start -P /var/lib/juju/lxc -n foo -F -l trace -o outout

and attach 'outout' to this bug.

[Bug 1402005] Re: agent-state-info: 'error executing lxc-start: command get_cgroup failed to receive response'

2014-12-12 Thread Curtis Hovey
lxc*1.0.3 looks odd. That is one version I don't expect to see.

trusty has 1.0.6 which is what I think the host is and should be using.
a precise host has 1.0.4
found in the cloud tools archive
http://ubuntu-cloud.archive.canonical.com/ubuntu/pool/main/l/lxc/
juju stable ppa provides 1.0.0-alpha1, a copy of what was formerly in
clout-tools.

Does the host need to be upgraded or if precise, use the correct
archive?

The host machine is trusty and was missing updated. We have updated the
lxc and other packages. We will watch the processes to see if the issue

2014-12-12 Thread Rob Hills
This bug has hit me quite hard in the last week, breaking a number of
automated ssh processes that have been working without a hitch prior to
sometime after Monday evening (8 December, UTC+8) this week. I can pin
it down to that because each Monday and Friday evening I use a scripted
ssh tunnel to connect a pgAdmin III client to a remote Postgres
database. It worked last Monday, it didn't in between. Sometime after
Monday this week, other ssh processes also broke.

I'm providing this info in case it helps someone pin down what changed
to cause this problem. I'm surprised it's only flagged as affecting 4
people!

[Bug 1402137] [NEW] nginx-full

2014-12-12 Thread Navid Paya
Public bug reported:

I'm running Ubuntu 14.04 on Vagrant using the ubuntu/trusty64 image
from vagrantcloud. When I try to install nginx-full, I face a version
mismatch issue. I did a bit of digging. The issue is nginx-full depends
on nginx common. Now:

vagrant@sandbox:~$ aptitude show nginx-full
Package: nginx-full
State: not installed
Version: 1.4.6-1ubuntu3
Priority: optional
Section: universe/httpd
Maintainer: Ubuntu Developers ubuntu-devel-disc...@lists.ubuntu.com
Architecture: amd64
Uncompressed Size: 1,030 k
Depends: nginx-common (= 1.4.6-1ubuntu3), libc6 (= 2.14), libexpat1 (=
2.0.1), libgd3 (= 2.1.0~alpha~), libgeoip1, libpam0g (= 0.99.7.1), libpcre3,
libssl1.0.0 (= 1.0.1),
 libxml2 (= 2.7.4), libxslt1.1 (= 1.1.25), zlib1g (= 1:1.2.0)
Suggests: nginx-doc (= 1.4.6-1ubuntu3)

While:

vagrant@sandbox:~$ aptitude show nginx-common
Package: nginx-common
State: not installed
Version: 1.4.6-1ubuntu3.1

So nginx-full is 1.4.6-1ubuntu3 and it depends on nginx-common
1.4.6-1ubuntu3 while there's newer version of nginx-common
(1.4.6-1ubuntu3.1) in the repo. I think that needs to be updated ASAP
since nginx is a very common package.

[Bug 252245] Re: unable to connect to windows network pc's

2014-12-12 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
James Walters, this phenomenon is verified in Trusty attempting to
discover a Windows 7 share with Nautilus via a WiFi router connection.
Strangely enough, if I spun up a Vista virtual local to the Trusty
install (which uses a virtual switch, not a router) I could see its
share by hostname with no modification.

What allowed me to see the Windows share over WiFi:
sudo nano /etc/nsswitch.conf
hosts: files wins

Restarted and now the Windows 7 share is discoverable via hostname in
Nautilus.

Thank you for reporting this to Ubuntu. Please feel free to report any
future bugs you may find.

 Title:
Pairing a bluetooth device hangs a computer

Status in bluez-utils package in Ubuntu:
   Invalid

 Bug description:
I have tried to install Ubuntu 8.04 before the release and here is a
problem I see: pairing my phone via bluetooth hangs the computer
   completely.

The bug reproduces every time I do the following:

   - I try to pair my phone (NEC e949) to my computer, pairing is initiated
 from the phone.
   - Phone asks for a PIN and I tell it 1234
   - Computer says Pairing request..
   - I click Enter passkey and enter the same PIN in the dialog. And I
 press OK
   - Ubuntu says Created bonding ...

After that the mouse cursor is frozen, keyboard does not work and the
   caps lock indicator is blinking.

   Hardware: Lenovo Thinkpad T61.

Note: This bug reproduces only on an installed Ubuntu 8.04 with all
the patches installed. The LiveCD works just fine.

I would be happy to do more research into this but at this point of
time I do not know what can be done. The /var/log/messages does not
show anything interesting. Perhaps, that's because the computer
freezes so quickly that the messages do not get onto disk. By the way,
there are numerous messages about transactions being replayed during
   the ReiserFS's file system check.

I suspect that the problem can be caused either by one of the software
updates or a conflict of drivers. The LiveCD obviously does not have
nVidia's proprietary driver and there can be other differences too.

One more thing. There is a bug #103365 which looks a bit similar. The
difference is that in my case the computer hangs exactly after the
   pairing.

[Bug 1295738]

2014-12-12 Thread Venkataramanan-kumar-e
Reverting this patch in 209897 bug still occurs in trunk with -mno-lra.

SPILL failure occurs for regno 110 (dst operand) in below instruction

(insn 634 633 635 27 (parallel [
(set (reg:SI 3 r3)
(ior:SI (eq:SI (reg/v:SI 110 [ dst ]) == This operand r5 is
registers gets assigned
(reg/v:SI 112 [ op2 ]))
(eq:SI (reg/v:SI 110 [ dst ]) == This operand
(reg/v:SI 111 [ op1 ]
(clobber (reg:CC 100 cc))
]) ../Source/JavaScriptCore/jit/JITArithmetic32_64.cpp:179 300
{*ior_scc_scc

First observation is that reload is not able to reuse r5 that was used
in second reload in operation for the same register id 110 dst

The IRA Dump shows.

(insn 632 631 633 27 (set (reg:SI 1 r1)
(reg/v:SI 110 [ dst ]))
../Source/JavaScriptCore/jit/JITArithmetic32_64.cpp:179 667 {*thumb2_movsi_vfp}
 (nil))
(insn 633 632 634 27 (set (reg:SI 2 r2)
(const_int 0 [0]))
../Source/JavaScriptCore/jit/JITArithmetic32_64.cpp:179 667 {*thumb2_movsi_vfp}
 (nil))
(insn 634 633 635 27 (parallel [
(set (reg:SI 3 r3)
(ior:SI (eq:SI (reg/v:SI 110 [ dst ])
(reg/v:SI 112 [ op2 ]))
(eq:SI (reg/v:SI 110 [ dst ])
(reg/v:SI 111 [ op1 ]
(clobber (reg:CC 100 cc))
]) ../Source/JavaScriptCore/jit/JITArithmetic32_64.cpp:179 300
{*ior_scc_scc}

The register operand 110 dst is already passed as argument 1 and hence
gets register r1. See insn 632.

But this is not reused by insn 634.

However there are some other places in IRA dump where the same
expression occurs and there register r1 is used. Here operand dst 110
is marked as dead.

(insn 431 430 433 24 (set (reg:SI 1 r1)
(reg/v:SI 110 [ dst ]))
../Source/JavaScriptCore/jit/JITArithmetic32_64.cpp:388 667 {*thumb2_movsi_vfp}
 (expr_list:REG_DEAD (reg/v:SI 110 [ dst ])
(nil)))

(insn 433 431 432 24 (parallel [
(set (reg:SI 3 r3)
(ior:SI (eq:SI (reg/v:SI 112 [ op ])
(reg:SI 1 r1))
(eq:SI (reg/v:SI 111 [ op ])
(reg:SI 1 r1
(clobber (reg:CC 100 cc))
]) ../Source/JavaScriptCore/jit/JITArithmetic32_64.cpp:388 300
{*ior_scc_scc

Still working on why IRA is not replacing the operand with R1 here, but
replaces in other places.

[Bug 1401802] [NEW] Calendar reminder notifications became queued, non-interactive and easy to miss

2014-12-12 Thread Michał Sawicz
Public bug reported:

With the recent indicator-datetime update the reminder notifications time out
and are not interactive any more, meaning that:
- can't dismiss (have to wait for the sound/notification to time out)
- can't snooze (I know the feature didn't work, but that was a missing feature,
not a thing we didn't want?)
- if you missed the notification, you missed the reminder

Not sure if the reason is the same, but they started queueing, too, i.e.
if there's two reminders for the same time, sound will play for both
(bug #1340248), but the two notifications will be shown one after
another.

This is a UX regression in my opinion, even if it fixes bug #1320880.

There is actually no clear design for this, I'm afraid,

[Bug 1358890] Re: [Notifications] Competing notifications when two alarms kick at the same time

2014-12-12 Thread Michał Sawicz
One reason for keeping them separate is that it'd be easier to miss what
the alarms/reminders relate to if they've been folded up.

Another is that you might want to snooze one of them, but not the other.
I'd be fine with snoozing all or none, but with calendar reminders you
might have per-event snoozing rules, which at some point we should
probably respect.

[Bug 220654] Re: unzip will not open 256 AES zip files

2014-12-12 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
** Summary changed:

- file-roller will not open 256 AES zip files
+ unzip will not open 256 AES zip files

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: file-roller

Winzip and many other zip programs can now produce zip files that are
- protected by 256 AES encryption. FIle-roller in ubuntu cannot handle
- these zips. The files within the zips are shown fine but when you try
- and extract the following error occurs:
+ protected by 256 AES encryption. Unzip in ubuntu cannot handle these
+ zips. The files within the zips are shown fine but when you try and
+ extract the following error occurs:

  skipping: Test.txtunsupported compression method 99

- I believe this is because unzip is used to extract the archive. This is
the output from unzip:
- dbrewer@HCC122J:~/Desktop$ unzip Test.zip
+ I believe this is because unzip is used to extract the archive. This is the

+    skipping: Test.txtunsupported compression method 99

If 7z is used it works fine:
- dbrewer@HCC122J:~/Desktop$ 7z x Test.zip

  7-Zip 4.51 beta Copyright (c) 1999-2007 Igor Pavlov 2007-07-25

  Processing archive: Test.zip

  Extracting Test.txt
Enter password (will not be echoed) :

  Everything is Ok

- So I propose that file-roller uses 7z instead of unzip.
-
I attach an example of this kind of file. The password is monkey (no
  quotes).

- Note peazip also can handle this. Maybe a replacement for file-roller?

[Bug 1393008] Re: Horizontal cards don't get backgrounds

According to
https://docs.google.com/a/canonical.com/document/d/1n880Fih5KyGPcoP5chidnHDG_8TxXUgSuij7f4rHpuk/edit
horizontal cards without a summary don't get a shape, and since they don't get
a shape, don't get background either.

This is my understanding of the table intersection of
Art_Header_horizontal + Can card be inside shape? in Cards and
Ubuntu Shape that says No and The ubuntu shape is also optional for
card templates which support it. In this case, the card must have a
background colour

[Bug 1330255] Re: Unable to Detect USB Mouse and Keyboard

2014-12-12 Thread Josep Borrajo
I think I have find the problem

New DELL keyboards haven't Numlock key but BIOS config has Numlock
active on Yes. I've have changed it to No and problem vanishes.

I suppose the system tries to change Numlock state and, if no movement
is detected on keyboard or mouse all two became hanged.

When the keyboard isn't a new DELL one, for some reason I don't know,
sometimes doesn't work.

I've changed all new Dell to Numlock Active to No

[Bug 1284308] Re: Bogus another operation in progress error. Can't copy files from a bluetooth device

2014-12-12 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
** No longer affects: bluez (Ubuntu)

** No longer affects: gnome-vfs-obexftp (Ubuntu)

** No longer affects: obex-data-server (Ubuntu)

** Description changed:

- I have upgraded to Ubuntu 13.10.
+ 1) lsb_release -rd
+ Description: Ubuntu 14.04.1 LTS
+ Release: 14.04

- And as usual, with the upgrade, a whole new bluetooth issue, which this
- times makes transferring files from the phone to the computer (which
- already was painful) completely impossible!
+ 2) apt-cache policy gvfs
+ gvfs:
+ Installed: 1.20.1-1ubuntu1
+ Candidate: 1.20.1-1ubuntu1
+ Version table:
+ *** 1.20.1-1ubuntu1 0
+ 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ trusty/main amd64 Packages
+ 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

- How I reproduce (100% systematic):
- 1 - click on the Bluetooth icon in the notification area
- 2 - from the dropdown menu, choose bluetooth settings
- 3 - select the phone among the listed devices
- 4 - click on Browse files
- 5 - A Nautilus windows opens, allowing me to browse files on the phone. Open
the DCIM/Camera folder
- 6 - Select a couple of files. Either drag and drop them, or copy and then
paste them, into a folder on the computer
+ 3) What is expected to happen is when one pairs their bluetooth phone,
+ browses it, and attempt to copy a file from the phone to Ubuntu, it does
+ so successfully.

- = I systematically get an error, but it can be any of the two variants
- shown in the two screenshots (one says there was an error copying the
- file, the other says there was an error getting information about the
- file; in both cases the given reason is another operation in progress.
- Note also that in one case there is a Retry button, in the other there
- is not - pure nonsense).
+ 4) What happens instead is a window pops up noting:
+ Error while copying “example.txt”.
+ There was an error copying the file into /home/test/
+ Show more details
+ Another operation in progress

- I then ejected the phone with the eject button next to its name in
- Nautilus, and repeated the whole process.
+ Originally reproduced in 13.10.

- I randomly get any of three outcomes:
- - the one described above (MOST of the times)
- - at step 4, I get an error This location could not be displayed. Another
operation in progress, so I cannot even browse files
- or
- - at some point (not sure whether it was at step 4 above or when ejecting
the phone) something CRASHES (I get the usual Ubuntu message informing me of
that).
+ /usr/lib/gvfs/gvfsd-obexftp 'host=[XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX]'
+ ** Message: transfer of example.txt to /tmp/gvfsobexftp-tmp-NTNMQX started
