Like in bug #1042069, I encounter a mouse pointer which does not move
smoothly, but this time on a Lenovo U430 touch laptop (with 1920x1080
screen resolution). It jumps at irregular intervals and makes it very
hard to resize windows. I'm using KDE.

I initially selected Postgresql, but it failed due to a syntax
incompatibility in the SQL. I then tried to make it just use mysql, but
that failed since it was trying to use user 'postgres' rather than user
'root' at that point, which of course fails with the MySQL database.

Ubuntu better. I noticed that you are installing an older version of
Ubuntu, unless you have some specific requirements to run an older
release I recommend trying to install the latest LTS version of Ubuntu.
