[Bug 1409539] Re: plink -V is broken

2015-01-12 Thread Jacob Nevins
This should naturally get fixed when 0.64 is released upstream and then
packaged for Debian/Ubuntu.

In 0.63 and earlier, there's a complicated manifest system so that any local
patches (such as Debian/Ubuntu have) cause 0.63 source to no longer declare
itself as 0.63. In 0.64 that will be gone.

[Bug 1409266] Re: OR dependency cron || systemd-cron

2015-01-12 Thread Martin Pitt
We won't do that. Unlike Debian, we don't want to support several
implementations of init, cron, or other low-level system tools in
Ubuntu. Once systemd-cron is mature enough and we deem it appropriate,
we may just switch to it.

[Bug 1409637] [NEW] Gallery thumbnails of small objects are blurry/invisible

2015-01-12 Thread Matt Rhys-Roberts
Public bug reported:

Draw: Version: 4.2.7.2, Build ID: 420m0(Build:2)
Package: libreoffice-draw 1:4.2.7-0ubuntu2
OS: Ubuntu 14.04.1 LTS, release 14.04

Expected: high quality gallery thumbnails, of objects of any size that
I've drawn using the standard drawing tools.

Actual: gallery thumbnails of small (0.1 or thereabouts) objects that
I've added to the gallery, appear blurry or do not appear at all. They
can still be dragged into drawings though, but it requires guesswork!

Thanks for any solutions you can provide.

[Bug 1408984] Re: No tool exists to test SNR TTFF on a handset

2015-01-12 Thread Thomas Voß
** Description changed:

OEMs wishing to confirm that GPS is working correctly need to be able to
observe TTFF and SNR data from a handset under test. They will repeat
  these tests in multiple locations.

They expect to find a tool somewhere in this projects deliverables that
they can use to do this.
+
+ For manual verification purposes:
+
+ * sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install ubuntu-location-service-tests
+ * /usr/bin/uls-tests/gps_provider_test
--gtest_filter=HardwareAbstractionLayerFixture.time_to_first_fix_cold_start_without_supl_benchmark_requires_hardware
+ * Three trials will be run, measuring TTFF from cold start without any sort
of assistance data, reporting details about visible space vehicles to the
terminal.
+
+ The timeout per trial is chosen as 15 minutes, as the theoretical cold
+ start time of GPS is 12.5 minutes (see
+ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Time_to_first_fix).

2015-01-12 Thread jamie
This affects me on a HP6715b laptop. The Bluetooth that worked in 12.04 is not
detected in 14.04
My wifi works but is shown as a Broadcom BCM4311 so I'm not sure about the
Integrated Module below.

 usb_device.vendor_id = 1008 (0x3f0)
  usb_device.product_id = 5917 (0x171d)
  usb_device.vendor = 'Hewlett-Packard'
  info.vendor = 'Hewlett-Packard'
  usb_device.device_revision_bcd = 256 (0x100)
  usb_device.max_power = 0 (0x0)
usb_device.product = 'Wireless (Bluetooth + WLAN) Interface [Integrated
Module]'

I started a thread on the Ubuntu forum which has a few more details.

package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is
important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people
interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some
hints about determining what package your bug might be about at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help
in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
 https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1408589/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

The package name is passwd.

Yes, this is reproducible with 16-bit Skifree. There's more discussion
on the mailing list, but the takeaway so far is that I can confirm that
setting CONFIG_VGA_ALLOCATE_EXTRA_STACK=n fixes this.

[Bug 1362211] Re: enable fdk-aac, x262, x264 10bit and x265

2015-01-12 Thread djcj
You're right, the plugin doesn't really work because of clashing symbols. The
output is always h264 8bit. 10bit can be forced if the 10bit x264 library was
preloaded. libx262 is using the x264 symbols too, so it won't work either.
This makes me wonder what the purpose of these plugins is anyway.

[Bug 1408984] Re: No tool exists to test SNR TTFF on a handset

2015-01-12 Thread John McAleely
@tvoss - that would be a big step away from the ideal. I'm sure we both
know that the tests don't alter the image and screw up updating, but the
general line is 'use apt-get install, and you're on your own'.

So I'd rather see it in the default image.

No, but even then: the strings are still untranslated, so that patch may
be wrong somehow. Strings are translated to my language, so that can't
be the problem, but I don't see what's wrong with it.

Re: [Bug 1405256] Re: Package does not contain service file

2015-01-12 Thread Serge Hallyn
The upstart job I posted demonstrates that you can still do it pretty
easily. Note that libcgroup is in universe, is no longer maintained,
and was always buggy by design. If we simply re-enable the part that
you want to use, it won't work well in a large number of cases.

Another simpler solution would be to take the precise package and
build it in a ppa for trusty. You would then be able to use it
from there.

[Bug 1409639] Re: juju needs to support systemd for = vivid

2015-01-12 Thread Martin Pitt
Feature freeze isn't until Mid-February, so any new feature can be put
into the vivid package without problems by then. Even after that this
will certainly get a freeze exception as this is a release goal. But as
this apparently blocks OpenStack deployment/testing (said James Page),
we'd probably backport this before feature freeze once it lands in

[Bug 1409542] Re: PPAs not visible in the Software Center

2015-01-12 Thread Matthew Paul Thomas
Yikes. Sorry, Jussi, I didn't know that warning was present. I have
reported bug 1409749 on the error, which is really the root problem
here.

One of the ways of addressing that bug would be to make PPAs findable
and/or browseable. But it's probably not the best choice, for the
reasons I outlined, and because the effort required to implement that
would be greater than the effort of reviewing free apps until the new
upload process is available.

[Bug 1409608] Re: The 32-bit i386 install executes SSE instructions.

2015-01-12 Thread Stephen M. Webb
The default 32-bit Intel compile flags in Ubuntu are for Pentium III
(i586) or later, which all provide SSE instructions. The Sempron line
of GPUs from AMD have all supported SSE instructions, although some of
the earlier ones do not support SSE2/SSE3 extensions. I myself have a
system with an Athlon 3000+ (predecessor to the Sempron) on which Compiz
runs just peachy, but I run a 64-bit image.

Compiz does not explicitly include any Intel-specific intrinsics or
assembly code, so does not invoke SSE instructions directly. It's
possible that SSE instructions are introduced by the compiler where the
optimizer says it's advantageous, or linked in from a dynamically-loaded
shared object such as an image decoder library or user-space video
driver. WIthout examining the core dump it is not possible to say what
the cause of this crash was.

Please try attaching the relevant crash information to this bug by using
the terminal command apport-collect 1409608. We might be able to dive
a little deeper with more information.

[Bug 1409758] [NEW] friends-dispatcher allocates extreme amount of memory

2015-01-12 Thread Renalendy
Public bug reported:

While using my computer I suddenly found out that it was running out of memory
due to friends-dispatcher consuming about 1.5g of RAM. CPU usage went up to
100% but I am not certain whether this is because of friends-dispatcher or
because of the heavy swapping activity.
I assume the tool gets stuck in a loop, allocating more and more memory until
the system runs out of free RAM.
