[Bug 1425510] [NEW] Default IM configuration causes hangs

2015-02-25 Thread Cefn
Public bug reported:

Certain applications have associated input hangs, where no key input
events can be sent which sometimes clear after some time, and in at
least one case (Inkscape), this is eliminated by running from Start-Run
as follows, hence overriding the declaration of GTK_IM_MODULE in
/etc/X11/Xsession.d/70im-config_launch , distributed in im-config...

bash -c unset GTK_IM_MODULE inkscape

A permanent fix on my machine could be to modify the 70im-config_launch
file, or declare an overriding export in some later .rc file. Anyone
know where I should make this declaration if not modifying package-
maintained files?

An alternative solution could be to install scim-gtk-immodule and run...

bash -c export GTK_IM_MODULE=scim inkscape

See also https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/inkscape/+bug/1385009

Similar behaviours are experienced with Kupfer - minutes of hang with
apparently no input events being passed, followed by (sometimes)
unfreezing.

I'm running Lubuntu Utopic with LXDE and Compiz (minimal dependencies on
GTK), so it's feasible that some component is not properly declared in a
dependent package. I can't find whether there is in fact a xim module
available and running anywhere on my system. How can I check?

Other input issues relating to out-of-order key event delivery to
Chrome-based applications are experienced on the same build, but I think
this may be an independent bug, ostensibly resolved by declaring
IBUS_SYNC_MODE=1
https://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=456766 but thought I
should mention as it's kind of in the same subsystem and may be linked.

I speculate that there is some missing dependency or bad configuration
in the default presentation of IM capabilities, which eventually causes
a DBUS timeout or similar, eventually causing a fallback without any
international input, but which is functional.

[Bug 1425497] [NEW] libvirt update to 1.2.12 causes regressions for libx driver

2015-02-25 Thread Stefan Bader
Public bug reported:

The move from libvirt 1.2.8 to 1.2.12 is causing two problems with the libxl
driver:
1. xml validation will fail for loader and bootloader without full pathnames
2. the driver tries to identify the device model version by calling the
emulator binary which was previously ignored

Fixing this for now by allowing non absolute pathnames (starting with /)
for loader and bootloader and fixing up configurations to use /usr/bin
/qemu-system-i386 instead of qemu-dm (which does not exist anymore).
This was done before while ignoring the emulator setting.

** Affects: libvirt (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Medium
 Assignee: Stefan Bader (smb)
 Status: In Progress

[Bug 1424362] Re: no permissions to install packages in vivid daily lubuntu beta 2

2015-02-25 Thread Henk Terhell
Just found the solution: Policykit Authentication Agent should be started
manually under LXSessionconfiguration - Autostart .
Obviously this is not switched on in these latest beta versions upon
installation. Now both Lubuntu Software center as well as Synaptic are OK on my
PC.

[Bug 1424734] Re: Incorrect multipath device names in /etc/fstab

2015-02-25 Thread Mauricio Faria de Oliveira
By the way, interesting observation in this content.

The 'p' separator is only used when parted /creates/ partition (thus
adding them through its own call to DM/dm_add_partition() function).

If the partitions already exist and are only formatted, parted won't have to
create them, and the '-part' separator from the kpartx call in
/lib/partman/commit.d/31multipath_partitions kicks in.
Also, existing partitions from other devices (even non-formatted) show up with
'-part' due to that kpartx call and the absence of parted partition creation.

The remaining problem is that subsequent stages which query partitions
names/path from parted will still receive 'p' separator, and fail, as
the those device names don't exist (e.g., the swap formatting error
above).

Maybe a solution is to remove the devices with parted's 'p'-separator
with 'kpartx -d [-p p]', re-add them with 'kpartx -a -p -part', and
create a symlink for a device name with 'p'.

That will make the '-part' device names available for everywhere (lots
of code use them in partman.. also grub-installer, at least). It still
doesn't fix this bug (as the device names for /etc/fstab come from
parted.. so, with 'p'.. but helps in some way.

It sounds like you installed Ubuntu using two different physical
volumes, and then Fedora destroyed one of them. Now when you try to
reinstall Ubuntu, the vg can't be accessed due to the missing pv. I
think at this point you need to wipe the disks and start over.

I've taken the patches Sergio provided in #3 and #4 and created a pkg
out of it. Uploaded right now at:

  https://launchpad.net/~allee/+archive/ubuntu/test

Test: module build now again with 3.13.0-45-generic trusty kernel and find
/afs/ourcell/bigsubdir -ls /dev/null
worked without error on cmdline or kern.log.

Warning: I've no idea about openafs kernel sources. I just happen to
know how to build a package.

[Bug 1366221] Re: gnome-calculator does not show application menu anywhere

2015-02-25 Thread Pere
Same here. I have no menu in the calculator. This makes the tool
useless.

There is also no menu in evince and in nautilus. But in these cases,
there is at least the gear button which shows a limited subset of
options (i.e. not completely useless). Are these issues related?

*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1425024 ***

OK - I filed bug 1425494 with the log files attached.

Am 24.02.2015 um 20:33 schrieb Christopher Townsend:
 Hi Daniel,

I would be surprised that indicator-sound crashing is the cause of you
not being able to log in. The crash seems to be due to indicator-sound
not getting the session DBus which is an issue in and of itself, so
we'll leave this bug as is.

Could you please do the following (I apologize for extra work, but it
 will help me)?

 - Open a new bug report against unity8-lxc.
 - Attach the following logs to the bug report (if they exist):
   - /var/log/lightdm/unity-system-compositor.log
   - /var/log/lightdm/lightdm.log
   - ~/.cache/upstart/unity8.log

 Thanks!
