[Bug 1447967] Re: Kontact crashed on startup
Martin: If I understand akonadi right you had to reinstall your calendar files, since the data where to find the actual files (as well as metadata) is stored in the database backend. I decided to check the information in /etc/fstab. The UUID of swap was incorrect. Gparted did not see the swap partition, so it had no UUID. [Bug 1448418] Re: Logout not working in Cairo Dock
I have the same problem as pramathesh. In addition if you enable logout and shutdown in the main menu neither work. I have tried the various delay start up solutions found on the Internet but none work. There is also a problem if you attempt to use the GLX mode. The entire dock will intermittently jerk, freeze, go back to normal, jerk, freeze, etc. I have tried the included fglrx and fglrx-update drivers with and without acceleration within Unity, Cairo Dock Sessions, and in Ubuntu Mate 15.04. I am using a Radeon HD 6450 GPU. I am installing and setting up Cairo Dock the same way I do in Ubuntu 14.04 with the same hardware and it works perfectly. I have been attempting to use Cairo Dock since Ubuntu 15.04 beta and the problems have been identical and consistent. I use all of my operating systems on ESXi 5.5 with GPU, audio, and USB pass-through so it's easy for me to switch things around and try different scenarios. I am willing to try any tests and solutions proposed, just let me know what you'd like to try. I'm an active supporter and fan of Cairo Dock so I am eager to see these problems solved so I can move on from 14.04. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1448418 Title: Logout not working in Cairo Dock To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cairo-dock/+bug/1448418/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1448548] [NEW] OpenJDK 8 Apt-Get Install Doesn't Generate openjdk-8-java.desktop File
Public bug reported: Ubuntu Release: 15.04 Vivid Vervet Version of Package: 8u45-b14-1 What I Expected to Happen: I expected that in order to install Java on my system, I could simply run: sudo apt-get install openjdk-8-jre OR sudo apt-get install openjdk-8-jdk I also expected that it would automatically generate a .desktop file inside of /usr/share/applications in order to set OpenJDK as the default way of opening .JAR files. What Happened Instead: Java installs just fine. However, if I try to set OpenJDK as the default for opening .JAR files, there is no entry for OpenJDK in the Default Applications list (under Right Click Properties Open With). [Bug 1448134] Re: boot hangs on vmblock fuse mount
okay thats specifically a vmblock-fuse service issue. open-vm-tools-desktop package provides the /lib/systemd/system/run-vmblock\x2dfuse.mount which is the service that is taking so long. This isn't a systemd generated mount from parsing fstab as I first thought. It should be an explicit unit file on your system placed there and enabled by the open-vm-tools-desktop package. And I'm not familiar enough with using vmware to suggest how to troubleshoot that particular service. If you aren't using vmware tools.. you can probably disable that mount unit without loss of functionality. But since open-vm-tools-desktop has a systemd specific mount file.. for the vmware-fuse mount point... I have to wonder.. how does this particular mount point get mounted when booting under upstart? Or did that fuse mount not get mounted before? I'm not seeing an equivalent upstart job or sysvinit script in trusty/vivid packaging of the open-vm- tools-desktop package that would have ensured the same mount attempt under sysV or upstart. Though I may have just not seen it. This looks like a vivid specific packaging addition to open-vm-tools-desktop. Someone who uses vmware regularly should look into that more closely. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1448134 Title: boot hangs on vmblock fuse mount To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/systemd/+bug/1448134/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode. [Bug 1447294] Re: package nginx-full 1.6.2-5ubuntu3 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1
I've been able to run the install command from the DpkgHistoryLog (specifically for nginx) without any incident. It installs from the repositories correctly and operates as expected. So, this will need a little more information. Since dpkg's logs don't actually give any information or insight into why the executable failed to load, lets do some digging. Run this command: `systemctl status nginx.service` and likely this command: `journalctl -xe` and provide the output. My guess is that something broke during its startup (something else bound to port 80 or such), but because of the way the init scripts have been changed over time and the systemd issue of it failing to report those errors, we'll need to do some investigation to try and find *why* it's breaking. Also, try `sudo nginx` and then see what errors, if any, are produced. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1447294 Title: package nginx-full 1.6.2-5ubuntu3 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nginx/+bug/1447294/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1274012] Re: add alternative for x-terminal-emulator
To be more clear: I installed Ubuntu 15.04 final, than I was going to install Guake terminal to it. apt-get install guake ... Preparing to unpack .../guake_0.5.0-2_i386.deb ... Unpacking guake (0.5.0-2) ... ... update-alternatives: using /usr/bin/guake to provide /usr/bin/x-terminal-emulator (x-terminal-emulator) in auto mode # ^ this is not expected behaviour. [Bug 1448519] [NEW] Logitech K400 cannot type in LUKS passphrase at boot
Public bug reported: After upgrading to Xubuntu 15.04 (which uses the linux- image-3.19.0-15-generic kernel), I can no longer type in my LUKS passphrase (or even press Control-Alt-Delete to reboot the machine) at boot using my Logitech K400 wireless USB keyboard. Thankfully, the linux-image-3.16.0-34-generic kernel (which does not suffer from this problem) still existed on my machine from my previous Xubuntu 14.10 installation. So I am using that kernel as a workaround: 1. Boot the computer. 2. Wait for the BIOS splash screen to pass. 2. Quickly press the Escape key repeatedly until the GRUB boot menu appears. If I don't do this quickly enough, I encounter the LUKS passphrase screen where my Logitech K400 wireless USB keyboard does not work. 3. Press the Down arrow key to choose the second menu item called Advanced Ubuntu Options. 4. Press the Down arrow key several times to choose the menu item called linux-image-3.16.0-34-generic. 5. Press the Enter key. 6. Now the LUKS passphrase screen will appear where my Logitech K400 wireless USB keyboard will work correctly because the linux-image-3.16.0-34-generic kernel was booted instead of the problematic linux-image-3.19.0-15-generic kernel. Please fix the linux-image-3.19.0-15-generic kernel's build recipe to include support for the Logitech K400 wireless USB keyboard. Thanks for your consideration. [Bug 1448515] [NEW] Randomly unable to rename files and directories
Public bug reported: This has happened to me now for the second time, that I have been using nautilus to rename files etc quite happily until suddenly when I try to rename a file the cursor starts flashing in and out of visibility (may or may not be related), and then I find that I am unable to rename it, even if I restart nautilus. [Bug 1443648] Re: Kernel panics on iSER (iscsi over IB) logouts
Anyone can use the following PPA for hotfixed 3.13 (Trusty) kernel for x86/x64: https://launchpad.net/~inaddy/+archive/ubuntu/lp1443648-x64 And the following PPA for hotfixed kernel for arm64 (moonshot): https://launchpad.net/~inaddy/+archive/ubuntu/lp1443648-arm64 These PPAs should be used for any Trusty machine being an iSER (iSCSI over IB) client. @Pilot6 So is the post #12 confirmed? I am to follow the instructions... quote : ...Extract BCM43142A0_001.001.011.0122.0139.hex file from there... [Bug 1362881] Re: Can't input password with keyscript=decrypt_keyctl in initramfs
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1022815 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1022815 I can confirm the bug still exists in Ubuntu 14.04.2 LTS desktop. I used the encryption setup from the Ubuntu installer, and then wanted to decrypt a second drive /dev/sdb with the same password. When I used the default decrypt_keyctl script, I would not see a prompt and would not be able to continue the boot process, so I believe this bug can cause serious trouble for users. I modified /lib/cryptsetup/scripts/decrypt_keyctl as in the patch suggested by Marek. Then, I can use the following settings in /etc/crypttab: sda3_crypt UUID=123 group1 luks,discard,keyscript=decrypt_keyctl sdb_crypt UUID=456 group1 luks,discard,keyscript=decrypt_keyctl Afterwards, I ran sudo update-initramfs -u Now, I need to type the password only once. [Bug 1448522] [NEW] provide manpages for shell builtins
Public bug reported: For users who are new to console usage it might be hard to figure out shell builtins. In some cases it seems not overly wrong to break the deal that manpages ought to refer to commands and either provide pages for shell builtins or - better - refer to the `SHELL BUILTIN COMMANDS` section of the manpage of `bash` (or to the section of the builtin directly - this is more confusing because the user has to scroll up to the section on builtins to figure out why this section has been opened, but provides easier access to usage information). [Bug 1448515] Re: Randomly unable to rename files and directories
** Description changed: This has happened to me now for the second time, that I have been using - nautilus to rename files etc quite happily until suddenly when I try to - rename a file the cursor starts flashing in and out of visibility (may - or may not be related), and then I find that I am unable to rename it, - even if I restart nautilus. So no matter what I type or try to delete - with, not key seems to make any impact to the file's name. [Bug 1448102] Re: Kubuntu 15.04: plasmashell crashes
I used the upstart and the non-upstart kernel options for both kernels that I have installed (3.19.0-15-generic and 3.16.0-34-generic) and none of them work for me. To have some sort of a GUI, I have to login in a terminal with ctrl+alt+F1 and startx, it opens a black screen with a mouse cursor in the middle of the screen. As soon as a program crashes, I can use the trace with gdb option from the debugging KDE window to open a konsole instance, open a new tab with ctrl+shift+T, and open programs manually like firefox or thunderbird. It seems in this environment it only works the System Activity window shortcut with ctrl+ESC. [Bug 1448544] [NEW] [MIR] SDL_Init() crashes on the bq Aquaris E4.5 phone
Public bug reported: Device: bq Aquaris E4.5 Ubuntu Edition Environment: Ubuntu 14.10 (r21) libSDL2 has been ported to Mir and the Mir backend should therefore work on the phone too. libSDL2 is not shipped with the device's system image, so I built libSDL2 manually on the device, copied the resulting files over and shipped the shared object as part of the Click package. The desktop file references a shell script which sets the needed LD_LIBRARY_PATH and then calls the actual binary. So far, so good. The binary kept crashing with a segmentation fault in its call to SDL_Init(SDL_INIT_VIDEO). For some reason I managed to get it working a single time (see the attached screenshot) after trying enough times, in all other cases it would crash. I managed to get a GDB trace and it points to line 304 in SDL2-2.0.2/src/video/SDL_egl.c , but I don't have enough knowledge about video APIs to find out what's happening: Program received signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault. 0x in ?? [Bug 1448565] [NEW] Wrong time zone
Public bug reported: Hello. I try to add a new time zone description of my current location. So I added to my zone.tab: AQ -6212-05858 Antarctica/Bellingshausen Bellingshausen Station, Vaterloo Island, GMT-4 (Yes, I know, all the other stations at the island use GMT-3, but Russians use GMT-4, don't ask me why.) Then I created a soft link to GMT-4: $ sudo ln -sf /usr/share/zoneinfo/Etc/GMT-4 /usr/share/zoneinfo/Antarctica/Bellingshausen So tzselect script says: The following information has been given: Antarctica Bellingshausen Station, Vaterloo Island, GMT-4 Therefore TZ='Antarctica/Bellingshausen' will be used. Local time is now: Sun Apr 26 02:56:59 GMT-4 2015. Universal Time is now: Sat Apr 25 22:56:59 UTC 2015. But it is wrong timezone. It should be MSK-7, that is GMT-4. And when I link Bellingshausen TZ to GMT+4: $ sudo ln -sf /usr/share/zoneinfo/Etc/GMT+4 /usr/share/zoneinfo/Antarctica/Bellingshausen the timezone becomes correct: Therefore TZ='Antarctica/Bellingshausen' will be used. Local time is now: Sat Apr 25 19:23:33 GMT+4 2015. Universal Time is now: Sat Apr 25 23:23:33 UTC 2015. I tried tzdata_2015c-0ubuntu0.14.04_all.deb and tzdata_2015c- 0ubuntu0.14.10_all.deb. [Bug 1446027] Re: SNA acceleration causes sudden shutdowns and corrupts CMOS data on the the Asus UX21E ultrabook on a wide variety of kernels since at least Ubuntu 14.04
I'll be able to do it some time before Monday. Sorry for not doing so right away. Meanwhile, bad news. This behavior is by design. Running custom microcode and setting rc6 to 5 does not fix the issue, it's just an ugly workaround. One thing I've been missing all these weeks which I discovered about three hours ago: When /sys/class/power_supply/BAT0/energy_now drops below 7000 mW, /sys/class/power_supply/BAT0/power_now takes an instant dive from about 16000 mW to 12000 mW and at the same time, all CPU cores are throttled down to 800 Mhz. No kernel or BIOS setting seems to be able to circumvent this. Even pinning the minimum CPU frequency at 1200 Mhz via TLP only works until the battery charge keeps above 7000 mW. Then it's forcibly reduced to 800 Mhz. The boot flag acpi=off seemingly fixes this but quite expectedly breaks dozens of vital functions. If there's Flash Player running at the moment of throttling AND the current power consumption rate is high enough, a shutdown happens. Pinning the maximum CPU frequency at the same 800 Mhz while on battery does not help -- even if the frequency does not change, when the battery charge drops below the above mentioned threshold, the system may crash. If there's no Flash Player running (both Pepper and the regular Adobe Flash are affected), even a 100% CPU load does not result in a crash. If there's Flash Player running, but the power consumption rate at the moment is relatively low, there's no shutdown. Once the threshold is passed and the CPU is forcibly downclocked to 800 Mhz, I can watch as many Flash Videos in highest resolutions at 100% CPU load and... nothing happens. Almost anything that affects power consumption -- be it a custom-made CPU microcode, newer VBIOS, hidden BIOS options or simply a specific RC6 setting -- automatically affects the probability of shutdown. SNA acceleration spawns rather small but frequent peaks of power consumption, which kinda provoked the issue. Currently I experience no shutdowns with RC6=5 and a custom CPU microcode, but I'm inclined to think that it's a poor solution and there's still something terribly screwed up inside the UEFI BIOS. In understand this emergency throttling thing was meant, uh, as an emergency measure for a Windows-based environment to give the user as much time to save his work as possible. In Linux, it's just a pain in the butt. So, this bug needs reassignment. Now it looks more like a hardware quirk which begs for a workaround. So far we have: -- The bug is hardware-specific. It affects at least the UX21E Asus Zenbook. -- The cause of the bug is a low-level, BIOS-based service which uses ACPI to simultaneously downclock the CPU and reduces the battery power output once the battery charge drops below 7000 mW. -- For a shutdown to happen, a relatively high power consumption level and a running instance of Flash player must coincide at the moment when the forced downclock happens. Just having high CPU usage OR just running Flash isn't enough. -- Anything that affects power consumption does affect the probability of shutdown. Enabling features which result in power consumption peaks (even small ones) greatly increases the chances. Various power saving techniques play towards reducing the probability. SNA acceleration seems to be the most provoking factor. -- The issue affects a wide range of kernels at least from 3.13 to 4.1, i686 and amd64 versions are equally affected. Installing the cutting- edge Intel graphics drivers and xorg from the xorg-edgers PPA does not affect the frequency of shutdowns. At least Ubuntu, Lubuntu and Kubuntu are affected. P.S. [Bug 1435061] Re: KDE 5 is corrupted, after updating Kubuntu
Also, the akonadi failed miserabily, leaving me without my PIM. The network interfaces, while I can manage to use, are really slow, and keeps failing within minutes.
