[Bug 1453028] Re: Kernel drops connection with rtl8192cu fixed driver

2015-05-15 Thread Marko Hrastovec
I give up. I am not sure what causes the problems. It is a fact that:

- in some kernels I didn't notice the problem, which led me to conclusion that
the kernel is to blame;
- it behaves identically on more than one computer;
- I was not able to reproduce the problem on another WIFI network.

I guess it some strange combination of WIFI adapter, driver, kernel,
access point, etc.

I got myself a WIFI adapter with other chipset than rtl8192cu and it
works now. Unfortunately I got two rtl8192cu dongles because I thought
the first one broke when the problems start to appear. After I bought
another one I realized that the old one is OK.

As far as I am concerned this bug report can be closed. Thanks for all
the help.

[Bug 1301601] Re: [Dell Latitude E7440] suspend sometimes freezes when lock screen activates

2015-05-15 Thread Martin Grewe
After some research I found errors related to i915 module (see some
output attached).

I tried some kernel module parameters without success, but the solution that
seems to work for me is disabling of SNA acceleration-backend following:
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Intel_graphics#SNA_issues

Would be great, if someone could confirm.

[Bug 1448259] Re: Systemd does not send SIGTERM first on shutdown

2015-05-15 Thread Olli Niemi
Tested with Ubuntu Mate 15.04 in Raspberry Pi 2 (test.c, included here).
It has systemd 219-7ubuntu5 package. After a reboot one can see that a
file testing.txt is created but its size is zero, i.e. it was not
given enough time to write the file contents. The fix is not working
with two laptops and one desktop PC (testing.txt file is not created),
Ubuntu 15.04. I currently have no access to development hardware so I
can only test released changes.

[Bug 1453282] Re: [Neither headphones nor speakers are displayed under All Settings-Sound, VIA VT1718S, Green Headphone Out, Front] No sound at all

2015-05-15 Thread Vindicator
I'm guessing it isn't spdif because it says it's audio for the HDMI.

Something I ended up finding I think is using alsamixer to make sure
auto-mute is disabled, but that is only so I can have audio from the
headphones in the front and back at the same time.

However what I just found is resuming from suspend, the audio listing is
missing.

[Bug 1426216] Comment bridged from LTC Bugzilla

2015-05-15 Thread bugproxy
--- Comment From ss...@in.ibm.com 2015-05-15 06:12 EDT---
(In reply to comment #9)
 This appears to have been originally reported against a 3.18 based kernel.
 We've since released 15.04 with a v3.19 based kernel. I'd be interested to
 know if this is still an issue. I'll ask one of my engineers with access to
 a Power8 system to see if they are able to reproduce with our 15.04 release
 kernel.  Thanks.

This can be recreated with 15.04 GA image as well.

[Bug 1445688] Re: private file disclosure issue (CVE-2015-0844)

2015-05-15 Thread Scott Kitterman
No. It's not a lie. Trusty backports bugs are not handled within the
Ubuntu project tasks, but under a separate project that I've added now.
What it is, is someone rushing to make an accusation because they don't
understand how the project is managed.

As described in https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UbuntuBackports
someone needs to verify that the newer backport builds, installs, and
runs on trusty. Once that's done, I'll be glad to upload it.

2015-05-15 Thread RobertFM
Same problem here.
The short-cuts stop working after resuming from standby AND logging in to TTY2.
When switching to TTY7 the short-cuts work in the login screen, but after
logging in they don't work any more.
When this happens, shutdown/restart/logging out takes ages as well.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that there was an error on your system when
trying to install a particular package. Please execute the following
command, as it will clear your package cache, in a terminal:

sudo apt-get clean

Then try performing the update again. This will likely resolve your
issue, but the failure could be caused by filesystem or memory
corruption. So please also run a fsck on your filesystem(s) and a
memory test.  Thanks in advance!

I'm very surprised with that, as /boot/grub/ normally already exists,

[Bug 1431564] Re: [switcher] Can't use mouse to access spread or bottom edge

2015-05-15 Thread Vesa Rautiainen
For the spread access we'll be using similar type edge push as for the
launcher in Unity7.

For the bottom edge access there will be a mouse hover hint and a
clickable target. Work in progress.

OK; in fact my /boot/ directory is placed on a USB key which I moved
from a USB port to another one before updating, and without having
restarted, so the USB key was unmounted and thus /boot/ directory was
not existing any more. Stupid me. I'll try to close the issue.

Public bug reported:

This is actually a upstream kernel warning message and should be filed
against linux kernel but since I am running a mainline kernel I didn't
want to file directly against the kernel.

2015-05-15 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that there was an error on your system when
trying to install a particular package. Please execute the following
command, as it will clear your package cache, in a terminal:

sudo apt-get clean

Then try performing the update again. This will likely resolve your
issue, but the failure could be caused by filesystem or memory
corruption. So please also run a fsck on your filesystem(s) and a
memory test.  Thanks in advance!

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 1455333] Re: package fonts-nanum (not installed) failed to install/upgrade: cannot copy extracted data for './usr/share/fonts/truetype/nanum/NanumGothicBold.ttf' to '/usr/share/fonts/truetype/nan

2015-05-15 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that there was an error on your system when
trying to install a particular package. Please execute the following
command, as it will clear your package cache, in a terminal:

sudo apt-get clean

Then try performing the update again. This will likely resolve your
issue, but the failure could be caused by filesystem or memory
corruption. So please also run a fsck on your filesystem(s) and a
memory test.  Thanks in advance!

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

Commit 32075635db57c3d5efe12f8fb569af857e01ccad issuea warning message
/sys not mounted when it find a non existent cpu number, and that's the

[Bug 1455223] Re: [time and date] Searching for locations is slow and doesn't work offline

2015-05-15 Thread Iain Lane
FYI we have this information locally in libtimezonemap already and an
algorithm specified for querying this for ubuntu-system-settings
(https://wiki.ubuntu.com/TimeAndDate#Choosing_locations - scroll down a
bit Whenever).

I think it might make sense for libtimezonemap to implement this
algorithm itself, then the three locations that need it that I know of
(two in unity-control-center datetime, one in ubuntu-system-settings)
could all call the same API.

Maybe there were good reasons for using the server (such as localised
search?) that we don't know about atm. Would need to investigate.

[Bug 1453282] Re: [Neither headphones nor speakers are displayed under All Settings-Sound, VIA VT1718S, Green Headphone Out, Front] No sound at all

2015-05-15 Thread Vindicator
Ugh, this isn't progressing well.
I tried adding logger statements to the script since my change wouldn't bring
back the audio.
My logger statements didn't show in the log.
Then I added touch statements since I knew where those files would be
created. Again, nothing created.

I had been using the sleep key on my keyboard, but also tried the Suspend
menu item under power-cog at the top-right. Again, no files were touched.
I finally used $ pm-suspend and FINALLY the touched files showed as well as
the log entries.
Now I have to figure out what is going on with the suspend menu item and sleep
key.

But even then, the command /usr/bin/pulseaudio -k sudo /sbin/alsa
force-reload I used in the script didn't restore the audio devices like it did
when I tried it manually before.
So, I'd think if I manually tried it again, it would work. No, it wouldn't. So
then, I now copy/paste the command I pasted in my previous comment which did
work. It now does not.

I am flummoxed and questioning my move from windows vista (not just from
this experience).

[Bug 1453017] Re: USB ports do not work in Kubuntu 15.04

2015-05-15 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Pawan Kartik, as per https://downloadcenter.intel.com/product/50375
/Intel-Desktop-Board-DG31PR an update to your computer's buggy and
outdated BIOS is available (0071). If you update to this following
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate does it change anything?

If it doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the
output of the following terminal command:
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version  sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date

For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette
.

Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so
posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful. As well, you don't
have to create a new bug report.

Once the BIOS is updated, and the information above is provided, then
please mark this report Status Confirmed.

Thank you for your understanding.

@dholbach, but this a lie -

is not released for Trusty. Users are still affected by CVE. You don't
care, right? Maybe there should be change in Ubuntu process regarding
communication with backports.

I didn't find a way to add trusty-backports as affected by this bug. It
is either because you changed permissions, or because there is no such
feature in LaunchPad?

[Bug 1455364] [NEW] the wrong return value of function ubifs_fill_super()

2015-05-15 Thread anna
Public bug reported:

In function ubifs_fill_super() at fs/ubifs/super.c: 1955, the call to
d_alloc_root() in line 2058 may return a NULL pointer, and thus function
ubifs_fill_super() will return the value of variable err. And, the function
ubifs_fill_super() will return 0 at last when it runs well. However, when the
call to d_alloc_root() in line 2058 return a NULL pointer, the value of err is
0. So the function ubifs_fill_super() will return 0 to its caller functions
when it runs error because of the failing call to d_alloc_root(), leading to a
wrong return value of function ubifs_fill_super().
The related code snippets in ubifs_fill_super() is as following.
ubifs_fill_super @@fs/ubifs/super.c: 1955
1955 static int ubifs_fill_super(struct super_block *sb, void *data, int silent)
1956 {
 ...
2045 err = mount_ubifs(c);
2046 if (err) {
2047 ubifs_assert(err  0);
2048 goto out_unlock;
2049 }
2050
2051 /* Read the root inode */
2052 root = ubifs_iget(sb, UBIFS_ROOT_INO);
2053 if (IS_ERR(root)) {
2054 err = PTR_ERR(root);
2055 goto out_umount;
2056 }
2057
2058 sb-s_root = d_alloc_root(root);
2059 if (!sb-s_root)
2060 goto out_iput;
2061
2062 mutex_unlock(c-umount_mutex);
2063 return 0;
2064
2065 out_iput:
2066 iput(root);
2067 out_umount:
2068 ubifs_umount(c);
2069 out_unlock:
2070 mutex_unlock(c-umount_mutex);
2071 out_bdi:
2072 bdi_destroy(c-bdi);
2073 out_close:
2074 ubi_close_volume(c-ubi);
2075 out_free:
2076 kfree(c);
2077 return err;
2078 }

Generally, the return value of caller functions which call function
d_alloc_root() shall be set to a negative error code when the call to
d_alloc_root() returns a NULL pointer, like the following codes in another file.
bfs_fill_super @@fs/bfs/inode.c: 317
317 static int bfs_fill_super(struct super_block *s, void *data, int silent)
318 {
 ...
371 s-s_root = d_alloc_root(inode);
372 if (!s-s_root) {
373 iput(inode);
374 ret = -ENOMEM;
375 goto out2;
376 }
 ...
444 return 0;
445
446 out3:
447 dput(s-s_root);
448 s-s_root = NULL;
449 out2:
450 kfree(info-si_imap);
451 out1:
452 brelse(sbh);
453 out:
454 mutex_destroy(info-bfs_lock);
455 kfree(info);
456 s-s_fs_info = NULL;
457 return ret;
458 }

(buildd@komainu) (gcc version 4.9.2 (Ubuntu 4.9.2-10ubuntu13) )
#16-Ubuntu SMP Thu Apr 30 16:09:58 UTC 2015 on a Samsung RF711-S08
laptop (Sandy Bridge) from a USB3 stick connected to the USB3 port on
the righthand side, the boot stalls at the Ubuntu splash screen (with
the dots), with the USB3 stick LED showing no activity, eventually
dropping to the initramfs console. If I unplug and replug the USB3 stick
during the stall period, the LED shows activity and the boot proceeds.

The same USB3 stick boots on another laptop without any problems.

Excerpts from dmesg:
