[Bug 1367137] Re: [Icons] In Updates list, Ubuntu icon is blurry

2015-08-03 Thread Matthieu James
The size of the image used for the logo
(plugins/system-update/images/distributor-logo.png) is only 48x48px. It's
obviously too small for a component that seems to be 4x4 gu.

Desired resolution:
Use the high resolution PNG attached.

[Bug 1430416] Re: [OSK] Should remember keyboard layout per conversation

2015-08-03 Thread Rae Shambrook
** Description changed:

  Steps:
  * go to a conversation
  * select a non-default keyboard layout
  * go to a different conversation
  * select a different keyboard layout
  * go back to the first conversation

  Expected:
  * the selected layout should be restored for each conversation

  Current:
  * layout is global for the whole session

Thinking about the solution... it'd probably be best if text fields had
a context property that the input method could read and restore
layouts per context. If a field had no context, it would fall back to
  the generic behaviour - per-c

Rationale: you generally change layouts per contact, to write to someone
  in a different language.
+
+ -
+
+ This would require deeper functionality between the OSK and SDK /
+ messaging app than we currently have - the proposal sounds good but not
+ much to add from UX POV at this stage

[Bug 1478592] Re: bcmwl-kernel-source fixes [Patch]

2015-08-03 Thread ldc
After a few days of testing the results are:
- During low network utlization i have seen the no traffic issue 2 times
during 5 days. Issue can be fixed by unload/wait 2 seconds/load of the wl
module.
- Suspend/resume - With unloading/loading the module on every resume i have not
seen any issues.
- No crashes or hangs have been seen during usage or at resume as can be
experienced with the standard ubuntu-patches.

[Bug 1480972] [NEW] nm-applet sometimes shows all networks, then none

2015-08-03 Thread Ian
Public bug reported:

I'm using Lubuntu 15.04 on an EeePC 901. Using the home wireless network
is fine, but two times in two different places recently, the nm-applet
has seen all the networks for a few seconds after bootup and then
decided it cannot see any.

(Photos of this are available, but as I can't get scrot to capture the
popup list of lots/no networks, they're via a camera.)

Based on two lines in /var/log/syslog ..

Aug 2 19:35:45 eee901 kernel: [ 23.933607] eeepc_laptop: BIOS says wireless
lan is unblocked, but the pci device is absent
Aug 2 19:35:45 eee901 kernel: [ 23.933614] eeepc_laptop: skipped wireless
hotplug as probably inappropriate for this model

.. very late in the start up process I wondered if the wireless card
was, for some reason, being ignored from this point, but the Ubuntu
Forums wireless script shows that something can still see all the
networks here:

[Bug 1480975] [NEW] cannot update a view table in base

2015-08-03 Thread Rolf Leggewie
Public bug reported:

This is either an upstream bug already fixed in the version in wily or a
regression introduced in Ubuntu. I run trusty.

https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=92986

I would assume to be able to actually update when I right-click and
edit a view. But apparently I can only save the changed view with a
different name, delete the original and then rename it. That's
unintuitive and cumbersome. This test was done against the embedded
HSQLDB engine.

Verifications for releases later than trusty welcome.

[Bug 1480978] [NEW] view cannot be a UNION SELECT in trusty base

2015-08-03 Thread Rolf Leggewie
Public bug reported:

This is either an upstream bug already fixed in the version in wily or a
regression introduced in Ubuntu. I run trusty.

https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=92987

SELECT company_name,
 DATEDIFF( 'DD', '1899-12-30', TO_CHAR( CURDATE( ), '-MM-' ) + integer )
AS Zahltag
 FROM company, integer
UNION SELECT ALL company_name,
 DATEDIFF( 'DD', '1899-12-30', TO_CHAR( CURDATE( ), '-MM-' ) + payday2 )
AS Zahltag
 FROM company

The above works fine as a query in trusty base but only the first select
will be accepted as a view. The UNION SELECT will trigger the error
The given command is not a select statement. Only queries are allowed.

Verifactions whether this affects later versions than trusty
appreciated.

[Bug 1449295] Re: [Icons] Inconsistent tranparent app icon handling

2015-08-03 Thread Matthieu James
Transparent backgrounds should be avoided for application icons cause the
result looks very awkward once the Ubuntu shape and the shadow are applied.
Please try to design something consistent with the core app icons (our icon
guidelines can help).

[Bug 1478075] Re: Sound indicator should only indicate ringtone volume

2015-08-03 Thread Stuart Langridge
It's true that with the current UI you can't change the ringtone volume
while media is playing. But there's still no explanation here of why
that would actually be a problem

An additional piece of information which may weigh into this discussion
(I propose no solutions here) is that of apps and games which play
sounds but do not play constant music. This may be because they are
capable of playing background music but the user has switched it off, or
that the app is not a game but uses sounds for various events. In such a
situation, it is often very difficult to decrease the sound volume of
the game. If the current foreground app is, for example, a game which
plays sounds for events but does not have background music, then it's
very unclear what using the hardware volume keys is *expected* to do in
this situation. Application sounds obey the media volume setting, not
the ringer volume setting (and I assume for this discussion that they
will continue to do so, although see below). If the hardware volume keys
are used when such a game is the current app, should they adjust the
media volume? The phone is not currently playing any media, and there is
no obvious direct feedback to be heard when the media volume adjusts
(unlike, for example, the music app, where a media volume change is
immediately apparent). But if the hardware volume keys adjust the ringer
volume when there is no media *playing*, then it becomes effectively
impossible to decrease the volume of the game's event sounds. Android
and iOS both suffer from this issue, and it is I think at least
partially because there are at least two independent volume settings
(media and ringer) but they are presented as one context-dependent
setting. Maybe separating out the two settings and making them
independently adjustable would help alleviate this confusion (at the
cost of additional complexity)?

[Bug 1478075] Re: Sound indicator should only indicate ringtone volume

(Additional: perhaps app event sounds should obey the ringer volume, not
the media volume? This is unlikely to be a good approach and carries
with it its own confusion; it becomes impossible to silence a game
without also silencing the ringer, which is not good.)

[Bug 1480947] [NEW] Use SortFilterModel for custom models

2015-08-03 Thread Olivier Tilloy
Public bug reported:

While browsing the UITK documentation, I stumbled upon
https://developer.ubuntu.com/api/apps/qml/sdk-15.04/Ubuntu.Components.SortFilterModel/,
which is essentially QSortFilterProxyModel exposed to QML.

webbrowser-app has a number of custom models written in C++ that inherit
QSortFilterProxyModel. Some of them could most likely be replaced by a
pure QML component with this model from the UITK.

From a very quick glance, the following models are candidates:
 - HistoryDomainModel
 - BookmarksFolderModel
 - HistoryDomainListChronologicalModel

This would have the advantage of removing a significant amount of custom
C++ code, speeding up build time and unit tests run time.

[Bug 1074476] Re: ygraph crashes when loading a file

2015-08-03 Thread Urname
same problem!

and now solved!

1) issue:
installed ygraph, and it crashed upon opening a file. (ygraph
0.16~cvs20090218-1.2ubuntu1)

2) suggested fixes in this thread:
i confirm that installing xfonts-75dpi and xfonts-100dpi DOES NOT resolve the
problem. (at least, by themselves they are not sufficient.)

the patch provided above in this thread is also useless, without further
instructions on how to use it.

3) solution:
installing the package libtiff-dev DOES resolve the problem in my case.

sudo apt-get install libtiff-dev

hope this helps someone...

[Bug 1480952] [NEW] remote logging missing

packaged and installable in one command (or better yet - by default) to

[Bug 1370460] Re: [SDK] When scrolling a flickable with a slider, the slider can be activated by accident

2015-08-03 Thread Femma
** Description changed:

  - When scrolling a flickable with a slider, the slider can be activated
  by accident

- Recommended solution:
- Have 2 separate events
- 1) Tap and Release (not just tap) to change the value in the slider
- 2) Tap and Drag (Y axis) to keep dragging the flickable
+ UX Solution:
+
+ This behaviour should not occur. One potential way of fixing this is to
+ have a threshold in the slider so that the value of the slider is not
+ changed if you don't go above the threshold.

[Bug 1417359] Re: [messaging-app] + [dialer-app] + [address book-app] make swipe to reveal more discoverable

2015-08-03 Thread Olga Kemmet
Updated bug description, tested on krillin 15.10 (r293)

** Description changed:

on all the apps that use it (dialer, messaging, address book), we need a
way to make the swipe to reveal action more discoverable.

This was listed in usability testing:
messaging-app: Swipe to reveal 'copy' and 'info' options had poor
discoverability
dialer-app: message or see the contact information

  Suggestions:
  - small arrows ( on left side and on right side) of the list item to
inform users that there are actions to be taken
  - first time tutorial when the list is empty or when it's populated with
first item showing an overlay of how to swipe to reveal more actions
+
+ -- UX comment
+
+ The current implementation is an interim solution. There is a major
+ project in progress, which looks at first time experiences throughout
+ the whole platform.
