[Bug 1495871] Re: unity8 leaks file descriptors cause unresponsive ui but power button works display

2015-09-23 Thread Alan Griffiths
Mir does associate resources with a client socket that are not released
until one of two things happen:

1. The client explicitly disconnects
2. An operation (like the outstanding read attempt) on the socket reports an
error

AFAIK there is no *guarantee* that the latter happens in a timely manner
when a client disconnects abruptly.

[Bug 1496887] Re: pyke ftbfs in wily

2015-09-23 Thread Barry Warsaw
pyke ftbfs is probably hopeless. AFAICT, it hasn't been maintained
upstream in years. The last update on SF is from 2013. This is why the
original bug description suggested dropping it from the archive. Maybe
we should close this bug as Won't Fix. It's now a Suggests in debian-
science, but maybe we should remove it altogether?

Moreover I reinstalled Ubuntu, installed all the applications I had, and

So please have a look at the attached video and try to reproduce the bug
exactly as shown. Thanks 

If it doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the
output of the following terminal command:
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date

For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette

Confirmed. Otherwise, please mark this as Invalid.

Thank you for your understanding.

[Bug 1498862] [NEW] autopkgtest: rebuild test should not run when testing ourselves

2015-09-23 Thread Andy Whitcroft
Public bug reported:

We have a rebuild test which is intended to confirm the kernel still
builds when core-utils, gcc, ld etc change. It makes no sense for this
test to run for the kernel itself as it takes a very long time to run
and we have literally just built the kernel with those tools.

Check for the trigger being something other than the kernel packages
themselves before doing the rebuild.

[Bug 1498863] [NEW] Scenarios in ubuntuuitoolkit.tests.gallery.test_gallery.OpenPagesTestCase.test_open_page fail with autopilot.exceptions.StateNotFoundError

2015-09-23 Thread Christian Dywan
Public bug reported:

Some of the scenarios
ubuntuuitoolkit.tests.gallery.test_gallery.OpenPagesTestCase.test_open_page
in fail with the following error:

autopilot.exceptions.StateNotFoundError: Object not found with name '*'
and properties {'objectName': 'header_title_label', 'text': 'Pickers'}

As can be seen in all of these cases the page is being selected but only
rendered with considerable delay, causing AutoPilot to try selecting the
object too early.

How did you add the PPA?

You should have the line as follows (i.e. without -src):

deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/ginggs/motif1565/ubuntu trusty main

You only need the deb-src line if you want to download the source
packages as well.

[Bug 1485522] Re: Volume obtained is 100% in multimedia sink for sounds from app

2015-09-23 Thread David Henningsson
I've researched why the "Dinosaur" game always have sound effects at
100% volume.

Starting with the pa_stream_connect_playback API, the documentation
says:

"It is strongly recommended to pass NULL in both dev and volume and to
set neither PA_STREAM_START_MUTED nor PA_STREAM_START_UNMUTED – unless
these options are directly dependent on user input or configuration. If
you follow this rule then the sound server will have the full
flexibility to choose the device, volume and mute status automatically,
based on server-side policies, heuristics and stored information from
previous uses. "

Yet, in QPulseAudioOutput::open ( package: qtmultimedia-opensource-src,
file: src/plugins/pulseaudio/qaudiooutput_pulse.cpp ), the volume is
always set, despite PA recommending otherwise. In addition, the
QPulseAudioOutput constructor defaults the volume to 1.0 (maximum).

I think the QPulseAudioOutput component should default to not set the
volume at all, i e, leaving "NULL" as the volume in the call to
pa_stream_connect_playback.

[Bug 1498539] Re: FaviconFetcherTests random failures in silo builds

2015-09-23 Thread Timo Jyrinki
The bug fix https://codereview.qt-project.org/#/c/120738 links to a bug that
indicates QNAM erronously closing queued multiple requests with 'Unknown error'
and a warning before that "QIODevice:::write device not open" which matches
what the test mentions. And the fix itself states "This patch changes the QNAM
socket slot connections to be DirectConnection.
We don't close the socket anymore in slots where it is anyway in a closed state
afterwards. This prevents event/stack recursions.". Could the type change to
DirectConnection cause this change of behavior?

I've rebuilt Scopes packages, unity8, and download manager to have unit
test results in addition to autopilot tests that I did earlier, and it
still seems to be that the only flakiness is this webbrowser-app unit
test, and on x86 only: https://launchpad.net/~canonical-
qt5-edgers/+archive/qt5-beta1/+packages As x86 is faster, maybe there's
something timing related.

I've asked pstolowski to look whether he can see a delta with/without
the patch. He mentioned there have been some 'device is open' in bug
reports in the past, which is one of the symptoms being fixed by the bug
fix.

It's also useful to know that this bug fix itself is a bug fix to an
earlier fix https://codereview.qt-project.org/#/c/110150/ which upstream
urged everyone to ship, and we're currently doing that (in OTA-6). So if
we're not seeing worrying regressions, it sounds like a worthwhile bug
fix that may help random network failures in QNAM using components.

To switch between with/without patch, the revert of this latter patch is
in silo 054. One can use the pinning
(https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LandingTeam/SiloTestingGuidelines#Install_silos_with_overlay_PPA_enabled),
enabling/disabling the file and "apt upgrade" will allow to both
quickly "upgrade to the revert" or "downgrade to the fix that was
landed".

https://github.com/qtproject/qtmultimedia/commit/5f33d7bea3fd3dd441aff499576826a02e8e5be2
...which is in 5.4.1, so should be on touch too. So forget about the
previous comment; that said, I do see a message in PulseAudio saying
that the stream volume is explicitly changed, so it's somewhere up the
stack...

[Bug 1490349] Re: 15:10: bluetoothd reports "Not enough handles to register service" at start

2015-09-23 Thread Simon Fels
This pretty much looks like the adapter is just not automatically
enabled again after you restart the service. There is currently a udev
workaround rule in place to active a Bluetooth adapter directly at
login-screen time which wouldn't kick in here again. If there is no
general power state saver on desktop like urfkill you have to manually
enable bluetooth again.

[Bug 762449] Re: Dash is visually hard to grasp and browse

2015-09-23 Thread Rik Shaw
As an update to this original bug, we are now targeting Gnome-Shell with
the "gno-menu" extension specifically because of the inability for
"computer illiterate" users (3rd world users new to computers doing
literacy work in their own languages) being able to browse applications
in the dash. The dash is just so overwhelming and confusing, even after
turning off all the external data sources, shopping suggestions, etc.
An application menu that is browsable not just searchable is a core
requirement in our location. Here is the link to gno-menu that we are
using: https://extensions.gnome.org/extension/608/gnomenu/

Hmm, in src/multimedia/audio/qsoundeffect_qaudio_p.cpp -

my ubuntu version is 14.04 my videocard is Intel HD graphics ( i5 2500, 3.3

I didn't install a driver not even the intel drivers. So i am guessing mesa
driver.
I have a fresh install ( 3 weeks old). but i don't think it is in a driver.
i am guessing something in the greeter which doesn't assing the right
resolution to draw on.

would make sense to migrate BDW to use i915_bpo instead.

The known (public) bugs this would fix are:

  - screen is black after xrandr rotate command
  https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1446979

  - changing the VT causes flicker
  https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=85583
  https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1450557

  - GPU hangs on resume
- https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1468232
+ https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1452318
(and dupes, which I believe there are several of)

  - and some OEM machines can't always hotplug the HDMI output (no public
  bug AIUI)

the migration should not be too risky, since i915_bpo is already used
for Braswell which is same generation as (=based on) BDW.

  UPDATE:

I can confirm this is not a duplicate of #1226962, this only occurs in
LibreOffice and not in other applications.
I can also confirm that removing the libreoffice-gtk package fixes this issue
at the price of getting a less friendly UI.

[Bug 1498837] Re: No PEAP for eduroam networks

2015-09-23 Thread Jonas G. Drange
Please include what version of Ubuntu Touch you have installed on your
phone, Daniel. I have been connecting to eduroam on my Ubuntu Phone
since OTA5 (4 even?).

If you have access to the command line on the phone, you can paste (into
the bug description) the output from this command: $ system-image-cli -i

Thank you.

** Changed in: ubuntu-system-settings (Ubuntu)
   Status: New => Incomplete
