[Bug 1369043] Re: package ttf-mscorefonts-installer 3.4+nmu1ubuntu1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess new pre-installation script returned error exit status 128

2015-09-30 Thread stormhike
Just to add something although I don't have the problem now. When using
the Ubuntu Software Center to install the "Ubuntu Restricted Extras"
package it appeared to hang so I waited then quit. Then I saw the
dialog asking me to confirm the EULA, the only option was to continue,
which ended up in an error. The real problem being that the EULA dialog
was behind the Software Center window all the time, bit confusing.

[Bug 1501340] Re: Eclipse sub menu are uncomplete with 15.10 wily

2015-09-30 Thread MV
Same version than you 64bits

Build id: 20150621-1200

Your right this is not obvious at all.

Comparing with the working UBUNTY_MENUPROXY=0 instance, you can see that
some sub-menu filled dynamically are all with their minimal menu list
(static items I guess) almost empty

For instance menu "File/New" should contain 18 menus items above
"others". If you select "others" nothing appear except, maybe, a crash

menu "window/view" more than 15 menu choices and nothing appear when
you select others.

[Bug 1495983] Re: [Hyper-V] kernel panic occurs when installing Ubuntu Server 15.10 x32

2015-09-30 Thread Joseph Salisbury
Hi Chris,

Thanks for the update. There is a Wily test kernel with the patch from comment
#10 available at:
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~jsalisbury/lp1495983/patched-kernel/wily/

This won't allow you to test the fix as it will be in the iso, but at
least it will test the patch with the latest Wily kernel and it should
prevent the panic.(Note you would probably also see the panic by just
trying to boot with the latest x86 Wily kernel).

Are you referring to the following initial patch that broke the 32bit
installation:

commit be0cf6ca301c61458dc4aa1a37acf4f58d2ed3d6
Author: K. Y. Srinivasan
Date: Fri Mar 27 00:27:20 2015 -0700

scsi: storvsc: Set the tablesize based on the information given by
the

That commit is now in Trusty(As of Ubuntu-3.13.0-60) and Vivid(As of
Ubuntu-3.19.0-23) and is causing a similar panic. That commit was also added
to Trusty and Vivid per bug 1445195 . Not only does the panic happen at
install time, but when ever I try to boot a 32bit kernel for Trusty, Vivid or
Wily.

The patch mentioned in comment #10 does in fact fix the panic for Vivid
and Wily. However, it does not fix the panic for Trusty. Would it be
possible for you to test the latest Trusty and Vivid test kernels to see
if you also get this same panic? The kernels can be downloaded from:

Trusty:
https://launchpad.net/~canonical-kernel-team/+archive/ubuntu/ppa/+build/7925457
Vivid:
https://launchpad.net/~canonical-kernel-team/+archive/ubuntu/ppa/+build/7925789

Another test would could try is to install Vivid or Trusty using the
iso, then install the latest kernel to see if it starts to cause the
panic.

[Bug 1448092] Re: [needs-packaging] ibmpmlinux

2015-09-30 Thread Guo, Liang Chang
> Why should it be a blocker now that we are asking for ibmpmlinux to be
installed to /opt instead?

PMLinux has only one menu command for all of the user interfaces,
"/var/perf/pm/config.PMLnx", which has a symbol link at
/usr/sbin/config.PMLnx for root working well without $PATH setting.

Now, as per Mathieu's request "putting *everything* under /opt" " to
fulfill FHS standard, we have to move that public link into /opt/sbin,
which will ruin the interface access, so does PMLinux man help if we
also relocate PMLinux.8.gz from /usr/share/man to /opt/man.

> Isn't it preferrable to have this software in the partner archive, with or
> without /opt/bin path integration, than to not have it in the archive?
Because Ubuntu is not ready for basic /opt support, what I hope is Ubuntu team
still allows PMLinux continue to use /usr/sbin and /usr/share/man.

[Bug 1448939] Re: tint2 taskbar boots irregularly with xserver-xorg-video-ati, boots fine with proprietary driver

2015-09-30 Thread o9000
Regarding 3, I tried to fix this problem in the latest version (I'm the
current dev of tint2). However there is no package available for 14.04,
nor a PPA, so if you would like to try it out the only way is to compile
from source.

Normally I don't recommend this unless you know what you are doing, as
it is sometimes difficult to remove from the system software installed
from source and there are other things that can go wrong. In the case of
tint2 it should not be so complicated.

If you want to do it, here is a page with instructions:
https://gitlab.com/o9000/tint2/wikis/Install#install-from-source

You will have to configure tint2 in your startup applications to run
from the new path (/usr/local/bin/tint2) and remove the sleep then
relog. If it has problems please let me know.

If you don't want to try this it's perfectly fine. I am just curious if
this solves the problem in your case, which is a bit strange -- normally
tint2 should just draw itself without transparency if the compositor is
not detected correctly at startup; it should not dissapear completely.

[Bug 1499272] Re: General protection fault in btrfs crashes NFS server

2015-09-30 Thread Joseph Salisbury
Did this issue start happening after an update/upgrade? Was there a
prior kernel version where you were not having this particular problem?

Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer
to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest
v4.3 kernel[0].

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following
tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag:
'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as
"Confirmed".

Thanks in advance.

[Bug 1499203] Re: memory leak in hv_storvsc (3.13.0-63-generic)

2015-09-30 Thread Joseph Salisbury
I'd like to see if this is a regression. Would it be possible for you to test
the Ubuntu-3.13.0-59 kernel? It can be downloaded from:
https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-security/+archive/ubuntu/ppa/+build/7723132

You would need to install the linux-image and linux-image-extra .deb
packages.

Thanks in advance!

[Bug 1497087] Re: updates from trusty to vivid will fail when juju-core is installed

2015-09-30 Thread Curtis Hovey
I reported https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/juju-
core/+bug/1500916 to address bug 1497087. While the Juju team has always
provided backports for its community, we don't have the privileges to
provide backports quickly. The Juju QA team has dedicated staff for
release and backport, and in time the team, will have staff that can
upload packages as needed. We intend to continue our policy of
backporting to all communities we can support

To more directly answer this comment, Juju does have a Stable Release
Update policy in place. As part of that policy the QA team outline
testing Juju CI and testing procedures, details are here:

[Bug 1495983] Re: [Hyper-V] kernel panic occurs when installing Ubuntu Server 15.10 x32

2015-09-30 Thread Nils Schmidt
Either Chris is wrong or 1492331 is not a duplicate of this. Is
be0cf6ca301c61458dc4aa1a37acf4f58d2ed3d6 of Vivid not the same as
97b2591fbecaa0366939bb5fdfecd79fe914de22 of Trusty? The commit-msg is
the same.

Also affect trusty and vivid in the same way. Testing on trusty shows that
this broke with the release of tzdata=2015f-0ubuntu0.14.04, prior to that
tzdata version country_names could parse the data. debdiff shows that

[Bug 1501250] Re: double clicking on a URL drops the protocol from the URL

2015-09-30 Thread Egmont Koblinger
The double click behavior doesn't care about URLs at all. It considers
certain characters as part of a word, certain others are not. There were
many debates specifically around whether ':' should be a word character
or not by default.

Unfortunately the setting is not available on the UI; see
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=730632#c33 for how to set
this hidden value.

[Bug 1495983] Re: [Hyper-V] kernel panic occurs when installing Ubuntu Server 15.10 x32

2015-09-30 Thread Chris Valean
Hi Joe,
This patch fix should be included only for Wily.
As for Trusty and Vivid, those didn't have the initial patch that broke the
32bit installation, so please do *not* back-port this patch.

When do you expect this to get in the Wily daily images so we can test?
Thank you!

[Bug 1500992] Re: networkd: Don't reset forwarding unless told to do so in config

2015-09-30 Thread Martin Pitt
Ah, thanks for confirming. This indeed applies to interfaces which
networkd configures; man systemd.network documents this quite clearly.

> Having the bridge setup tool, modify the configuration of all
potential outgoing interface to allow forwarding seems completely wrong
to me

Full ack. Such scripts should not touch the configuration of interfaces
that they didn't set up. This is unexpected, leads to race conditions,
and isn't reliable as you wrote.

Setting to wishlist for now as it's currently behaving as documented.
I'll raise this upstream and see if they are willing to change the
default to "kernel".

[Bug 1486341] Re: [performance] Touch scrolling is stuttery under Unity8 (but only while you're touching it)

2015-09-30 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Annoyingly, in order to reliably set QML_NO_TOUCH_COMPRESSION, you have
to do it in the parent process before unity8 or the Qt client is
launched. Because it's only checked once on static initialization:

static bool qquickwindow_no_touch_compression =
qEnvironmentVariableIsSet("QML_NO_TOUCH_COMPRESSION");

So whatever is launching unity8 (upstart job?) has to set
QML_NO_TOUCH_COMPRESSION. And the same goes for Qt apps.

[Bug 1441487] Re: Running any Java program produces messages in the terminal, while rendering many Java applications broken

2015-09-30 Thread Didier Roche
Ok, let's then do this as it seems there is general agreement here.

Whitelist can be an option as well, however, the issue is that it
depends on the environment (for instance, most of the menu crash that
are reported here, don't happen with openjdk-7 but only with 8), this
can be fixed of course, but it will always been "after the fact", or we
need to start maintaining a list of "APP <-> java version <-> … next env
factor…" ;)

So, stripping the env line export for wily and SRUing it for 15.04,
while pushing the same change to the ubuntu make ppa. We'll need people
to confirm that it's fixed for 15.04 using proposed once it's accepted
to get it moved to the -updates pocket and be available to everyone.

Thanks again all for your feedbacks!

[Bug 1441487] Re: Running any Java program produces messages in the terminal, while rendering many Java applications broken

2015-09-30 Thread Didier Roche
** Description changed:

+ [Impact]
+ * Some programs are running java -version and grep the output to determine
which java version they are running on. However, having jayatana installed
exports JAVA_TOOL_OPTIONS which then result in the various available java vm to
output "Picked up JAVA_TOOL_OPTIONS: -javaagent:/usr/share/java/jayatanaag.jar"
on their command line. Programs not resilient enough against this output will
then just crash as not finding their output
+ * Random crash happens as well with jayatana under openjdk-8 when interacting
with menus
+
+ [Test case]
+ 1. Enable the -proposed repository and install this new jayatana version
+ 2. Restart your session
+ 3. Run java -version
+ -> You shouldn't see anymore "Picked up JAVA_TOOL_OPTIONS:…" line
+ 4. Start any java application which was crashing (see list in comment #25)
+ -> The application shouldn't trigger those crashes again.
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+ * We disable the entire menu, the regression that some people will see (if
this was working well for their apps) is that the menu won't be exported
anymore for their java app in Unity or Gnome Shell menu bar. Technical users
will be able to reexport it if they desires thanks to the recipe described in
the changelog or stackoverflow.
+
+
+
+
I just installed Ubuntu 15.04 and was surprised to discover that when
running a Java based program from the terminal in Unity, the following
  message appears: "Picked up JAVA_TOOL_OPTIONS:
-javaagent:/usr/share/java/jayatanaag.jar". I tried several programs and
it is all the same. Some Java programs with enabled Java security
produce even some error messages and crash. If I press Ctrl+Alt+F1 to
start a new terminal session without a GUI and run a Java program
(without a GUI), I don't experience this problem. Back in Unity, if I
unset JAVA_TOOL_OPTIONS in the terminal and run a Java program, it works
  fine.
