[Bug 1461012] Re: Hugepage and KSM not configured correctly under systemd

2015-10-10 Thread Dadio
I've investigated this issue in Willy:

Hugepages are now mounted on /dev/hugepages and not in /run/hugepages

And also libvirt wants to use /dev/hugepages and more precisely
/dev/hugepages/libvirt/qemu (so without the kvm in the middle of the
path)

This means, the apparmor rule for huge pages points to the wrong path. The
following change should be made in the profile
/etc/apparmor.d/abstractions/libvirt-qemu
remove: owner "/run/hugepages/kvm/libvirt/qemu/**" rw,
add: owner "/dev/hugepages/libvirt/qemu/**" rw,

(reload the profile with service apparmor reload)

I had to create this path with the right owner-rights like this:
mkdir -p /dev/hugepages/libvirt/qemu
chown libvirt-qemu:kvm /dev/hugepages/libvirt/qemu

Now hugepages works again...

Please pay attention to the fact that in /usr/share/qemu/init/qemu-kvm-
init the mountpoint /run/hugepages is created and mounted but
apparently, this isn't useful any more (to my opinion)...

[Bug 1267393] Re: [MIR] juju-core, juju-mongodb, gccgo, golang

2015-10-10 Thread James Page
Looking at the dependency chain to support the MIR, we're currently
pulling two versions of check into main (golang-gocheck and golang-
check.v1). This is caused by the use of golang-goyaml which depends on
the older golang-gocheck package.

golang-yaml.v2 aligns with the newer check version - I've asked the Juju
team to see if we can patch that in for this release and switch the
dependency in development for 1.25.

[Bug 1267393] Re: [MIR] juju-core, juju-mongodb, gccgo, golang

2015-10-10 Thread James Page
If the move to golang-yaml.v2 is low risk and can be done, then I'll
include that package for MIR and drop golang-goyaml and golang-gocheck;
however if that's not the case, then I think we should *not* use golang-
goyaml-dev and fallback to the embedded code copy in juju-core for this
cycle; juju should be able to switch in a newer release at a future
date.

[Bug 1504804] [NEW] Initializing messaging app takes way too long

2015-10-10 Thread Mr. Zdeeck
Public bug reported:

Description:Ubuntu 15.04
Release:15.04

messaging-app:
  Installed: 0.1+15.04.20150818-0ubuntu1
  Candidate: 0.1+15.04.20150818-0ubuntu1
  Version table:
 *** 0.1+15.04.20150818-0ubuntu1 0
   1001
http://ppa.launchpad.net/ci-train-ppa-service/stable-snapshot/ubuntu/
vivid/main armhf Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
 0.1+15.04.20150413-0ubuntu1 0
500 http://ports.ubuntu.com/ubuntu-ports/ vivid/universe armhf Packages

I've been using BQ phone for couple of months as the main phone and
progresively the start of messaging app became worse and worse - now it
takes several seconds, which is way too long.

My stats:

~450 contacts

sqlite3 history.sqlite:
select count(distinct senderId) from text_events = 47
select count(*) from text_events = 4539

When the messaging app is starting (ie. the swirl is on the screen), the
main CPU portion is taken by messaging-app process (80%) with the
address-book-service (20%) behind. After 5 seconds, the messages appear
on the screen and the address-book-service process runs for another 5
seconds taking full CPU load - obviously resolving contact names +
pictures, as they slowly appear by every conversation.

To resolve 47 senderIds for 5 seconds out of 450 contacts is completely
out of line. Also, I can imagine to have 4500 SMSs easily - the sqlite
backend is definitely fast enough for this, so why the 5 seconds before
the SMSs appear?

Regards,

[Bug 1467943] Re: system shutdown hangs if btrfs on file image (mounted via cifs) is mounted

2015-10-10 Thread Karl-Philipp Richter
I can only reach the `systemd` debug shell randomly, i.e. the system
freezes either before I can press Ctrl+Alt+F9, right after it so that I
can't run `journalctl -ab > /root/journal.txt` or right after running
the command so that data isn't written to `/root/journal.txt` because
the system can apparently only be rebooted with Ctrl+Alt+SysRq+b so that
the data is never written to the filesystem (btrfs).

After 5 failures at different states I couldn't recognize any pattern
which causes the freeze. The start of debugging shell works consistently
well if the btrfs image isn't mounted.

[Bug 872257] Re: Unity doesn't show the Citrix application

2015-10-10 Thread Alex Baggott
As part of the big bug review for 16.04 LTS, I have tested this on 15.10
and the bug is still there.

I installed the "Receiver for Linux" from here:
http://www.citrix.com/downloads/citrix-receiver/linux/receiver-for-
linux-1321.html

The program still isn't discoverable in Unity. As a side note, looking
in the /usr/share/applications directory in Nautilus shows the
application and double clicking launches it, but it doesn't seem to be
visible when listing the contents of the directory on the command line.
I don't know why this would be.

[Bug 1503731] Re: 15.04 freezes totally using Intel(i915) on BayTrail / ValleyView SoC(J2900 CPU)

2015-10-10 Thread Chris Rainey
ACK!

I hit the hard-stop(total freeze) about 10-mins after submitting comment
#7.

I rebooted into single-user-mode(runlevel 1) and uninstalled the
upstream-drm-nightly kernel and am running on stock:

chris@CKR-DKM:~$ uname -a
Linux CKR-DKM 3.19.0-30-generic #34-Ubuntu SMP Fri Oct 2 22:08:41 UTC 2015
x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

again.

FWIW: The trigger for the freeze might have been my opening multiple
background tabs in chromnium using the middle-click-wheel on my mouse
while looking into other information. I launched about 12-15 background
tabs with about one second between each click. The freeze occurred after
about 10-seconds of reading the first tab in sequence.

Please advise when able.

[Bug 1504790] [NEW] clang: Internal Compiler error when writing a constexpr parser

2015-10-10 Thread Mårten Rånge
Public bug reported:

(I hope I was able to classify the bug correctly)

I am for various reasons implementing a C-printf format specifier as a
constexpr function in order to be able to parse format specifiers during
compile-time.

This causes an internal compiler error in clang.

This is somewhat of murky code so it's unclear if I managed to do it
100% ISO C++14 but I think most can agree the compiler shouldn't crash.

For what it's worth the same code works in GCC.4.9.2.

Attached the source + scripts.

Thanks in advance.
Mårten

PS. Any suggestions for work-arounds or corrections accepted gratefully.

[Bug 1451170] Re: [ ASUS N550LF , Realtek ALC668, Speaker, Internal] To much sound

2015-10-10 Thread Raymond
were you test CITA headset only ?

I suspect your asus N750JK may support OTMP headset by default without
call alc_fixup_headset_mode_alc668 since your BIOS pincfg are similar to
N550LF

but require call alc_fixup_headset_mode_alc668 to support CITA headset
and OMTP headset

you may need to ask Kailang

[Bug 1504288] Re: Test suite failure with Python 3.4 & 3.5

2015-10-10 Thread Ricardo Kirkner
I've just released 1.1.3 to pypi which passes tests against 2.7-3.5.
I've also tested that version in vivid against 3.3 and 3.4.
When testing in wily against 3.4 some tests failed. It looks like there's a
difference between the vivid and wily versions of python 3.4. Will look into
what needs fixing.

[Bug 1461012] Re: Hugepage and KSM not configured correctly under systemd

2015-10-10 Thread Dadio
I've investigated this issue in Willy:

Hugepages are now mounted on /dev/hugepages and not in /run/hugepages

And also libvirt wants to use /dev/hugepages and more precisely
/dev/hugepages/libvirt/qemu (so without the kvm in the middle of the
path)

This means, the apparmor rule for huge pages points to the wrong path. The
following change should be made in the profile
/etc/apparmor.d/abstractions/libvirt-qemu
remove: owner "/run/hugepages/kvm/libvirt/qemu/**" rw,
add: owner "/dev/hugepages/libvirt/qemu/**" rw,

(reload the profile with service apparmor reload)

I had to create this path with the right owner-rights like this:
mkdir -p /dev/hugepages/libvirt/qemu
chown libvirt-qemu:kvm /dev/hugepages/libvirt/qemu

Now hugepages works again...

Please pay attention to the fact that in /usr/share/qemu/init/qemu-kvm-
init the mountpoint /run/hugepages is created and mounted but
apparently, this isn't useful any more (to my opinion)...

[Bug 1504781] Re: lxc: test suites failing on trusty

2015-10-10 Thread Stéphane Graber
They all get stuck in lxc-test-ubuntu which would indicate either a hang
in debootstrap (newly introduced debconf question) or a failure to reach
the cloud image server.

In either case, you've not actually regressed LXC, the other tests would
have failed if that was the case.

So I'd toss this one over to pitti for investigation and release the
updated kernels regardless.

does it change anything?

If it doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the

For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see

Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so
posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful. As well, you don't
have to create a new bug report.

Once the BIOS is updated, if the problem is still reproducible, and the
information above is provided, then please mark this report Status
Confirmed. Otherwise, please mark this as Invalid.

The one that is not normal crash is qaptwork2.0
The date of the crash is not consistent when the machine locked up.

I will try to get into SSH if it locks up, which I think wil be soon.
Because it is starting to have sluggish behavior.

[Bug 1383184] Re: Atheros Qualcomm Killer N1525 Wireless-AC [168c:003e] is not supported

2015-10-10 Thread chevrier
As rugby world cup is happening and i'd like to use external sound, I realize
that indeed, blueetooth is not working. As many asked, is there a work around?
I get the exact same error message as many folks above, in dmesg:

[3.767091] usbcore: registered new interface driver btusb
[3.772611] usb 1-9: Direct firmware load for ar3k/AthrBT_0x0200.dfu
failed with error -2
[3.772614] Bluetooth: Patch file not found ar3k/AthrBT_0x0200.dfu
[3.772615] Bluetooth: Loading patch file failed
[3.772619] ath3k: probe of 1-9:1.0 failed with error -2

really sorry to bother, bluetooth is not as critical but still a nice thing to
have! :-)
Many thanks
thomas

[Bug 1504822] [NEW] [PACKAGING] Missing dependency of elementary-icon-theme, causing missing icons

Currently if you install `xfce4` package instead of `xubuntu-desktop`
package to install XFCE desktop environment you'll notice that most
icons in menu are missing, it's because that `elementary-xfce-dark` icon

[Bug 1504788] [NEW] aptitude is capable of suggesting solutions that do not include installing the specifically requested package

2015-10-10 Thread quequotion
Public bug reported:

I came across this when trying to fix an installation (broken by "apt-
get dist-upgrade") by reinstalling its desktop metapackage (which apt
had removed, in order to remove its dependencies and install conflicting
packages that were neither packages I requested or dependencies thereof,
but that's a different problem).

I tried "aptitude install ubuntukylin-desktop"

aptitude suggested a variety of solutions to the conundrum apt had
created, none of which involved installing the package I asked for. Even
after trying one, thinking I might be able to install it on a second
pass, aptitude continued to make suggestions that excluded the
possibility of installing the one single package I asked for.

In the end it took three passes--cycling through half a dozen
suggestions each time--and I will spend the next several hours trying to
figure out what was broken in the process (numerous unrelated packages
were forcibly removed by aptitude). My particular case will not be
reproducible as it depends on my package selections and resulted from
apt making a terrible, random mess of a dist-upgrade.

You don't have to reproduce my particular case to verify the problem.
You don't need any of my configuration files. The problem is that
aptitude is *capable* of suggesting solutions that do not include the
single package it was asked to install. If a user asks aptitude to
install a single package, it should look for a solution that results in
installing that package and not otherwise.

/product-support/product/xps-13-9343-laptop/drivers/advanced an update
to your computer's buggy and outdated BIOS is available (A05). If you
update to this following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate
does it change anything?

If it doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the
output of the following terminal command:
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date

For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette

Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so
posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful. As well, you don't
have to create a new bug report.

Once the BIOS is updated, if the problem is still reproducible, and the
information above is provided, then please mark this report Status
Confirmed. Otherwise, please mark this as Invalid.

[Bug 1175579] Re: When mapping workspace switcher to super+arrows, super+up and super+down does not work

2015-10-10 Thread Alex Baggott
As part of the big bug review for 16.04 LTS, I have tested this on 15.10
and the bug is still there.

The default key combinations don't work and neither does setting them to
Super + Left/Right/Up/Down.

[Bug 1504829] [NEW] [Lenovo ThinkPad SL510] Loud beep on resume from suspend

2015-10-10 Thread u...@netic.de
Public bug reported:

On my Thinkpad SL510 I get a loud beep when opening the lid to resume from
suspend.
Resuming seems to work as expected, no obvious other symptoms occur.
The beep when closing the lid sounds normal: Quiet and about 130ms in duration.
The duration of the loud beep is about 50ms or sometimes even shorter.

The same symptom has been mentioned on this closed bug report:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1447331/comments/14

I first experienced this after upgrading a freshly installed 14.04.1 to 14.04.2
via the LTS Enablement stack to Kernel 3.16.
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/LTSEnablementStack

Yesterday a fresh install of 15.10 Beta 2 on the same hardware showed the same
symptom.
Resuming from suspend seems to work in both cases.
The loud beep was not present in 14.04.1 with Kernel 3.13.

lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 14.04.3 LTS
Release:14.04

Not sure why it gives 14.04.3 above, since I never upgraded to that. It
might also be worth mentioning that since installing the LTS Enablement
stack I keep getting updates for Kernel 3.13 and also for 3.16, from
which I can choose at system startup in GRUB.

[Bug 1447808] Re: Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' after upgrading to Ubuntu 15.04

2015-10-10 Thread Ralph Corderoy
Upgrade from 14.10 to 15.04 broke programs' access to MariaDB because
they were all expecting to give a username of root and the appropriate
password. To repair, I set user.plugin back to empty for user='root'
and *also* had to set user.password as the upgrade had cleared it.

It's not nice to discover the problem after the reboot upgrade; I
didn't notice it in 15.04's release notes.

Suggesting a new user be created with the desired permissions and code
switch across to using that isn't practical when it's a legacy system
with much code in various languages and root/password scattered to the
winds by time. The client's system was being upgraded to get security
updates, not be pushed into changing their codebase for a security
improvement when no change wouldn't have worsened security.
