[Bug 1496014] Re: kernel panic - not syncing: Fatal exception in interrupt drm_kms_helper

2015-10-11 Thread HelmutHeidel
I've updated my system yesterday via software updater to the newest kernel
version (3.13.0-66).
Seems that this new version is running w/o problems:
uptime
09:46:06 up 1 day, 15:22,  3 users,  load average: 4,95, 3,41, 1,79
uname -r
3.13.0-66-generic
Seems to be stable again.From my point of view the problem is solved.

[Bug 1504781] Re: lxc: test suites failing on trusty

2015-10-11 Thread Martin Pitt
> or a failure to reach the cloud image server.

The tests work on wily and vivid, so in principle they can talk to the
cloud image server or linuxcontainers.org. It might of course be that
later LXC versions got some proxy fixes or something such. However, the
tests in trusty also worked until October 6th and started failing from
October 7th on
(http://autopkgtest.ubuntu.com/packages/l/lxc/trusty/amd64/). There was
no change in autopkgtest or autopkgtest-cloud, or a re-roll of the
infrastructure then.

The main difference in
http://autopkgtest.ubuntu.com/data/packages/trusty/amd64/l/lxc/20151007_063858@.log
is indeed kernel -65 to -66.

Anyway, I'll investigate this more closely and follow up here.

[Bug 1504909] [NEW] blk_update_request: I/O error when accessing a disk that is spun down

2015-10-11 Thread Felix Matouschek
Public bug reported:

Hello,

I have 6 3TB SATA disks that are attached via a IBM M1015 in IT mode and
the mpt2sas driver. The filesystem is zfsonlinux.

I can't name the exact 3.19 kernel version when this error began, but it
was not the inital 3.19 Vivid LTS Kernel because after initally
upgrading to 3.19 everything still worked.

After a recent update I have the following problem:

When disks are spun down and then accessed an error occurs which corrupts data.
When the disks are finally spun up everything works as expected, also
preventing them from spinning down works as a workaround.

Could this be a NCQ bug?

Drives are 5x Seagate ST3000DM001 and 1x HGST HDN724030ALE640.

[Bug 1504914] [NEW] System freeze/restart on high memory usage

2015-10-11 Thread yas
Public bug reported:

When a process demands increasingly to the limit of memory available the system
becomes unusable, mouse start to not respond promptly or not at all, and
eventually the system resets to the logon screen.
The expected behavior would be not to lose control of the machine but crash
eventually the process or application asking for resources.

What I have done?
- Discard hardware problems, testing memory with memtest86+. No issue detected
there.
- Test without swap file and with swap file of 4Gb (similar to main memory).
Same crash.
- Following the advise on
http://askubuntu.com/questions/41778/computer-freezing-on-almost-full-ram-possibly-disk-cache-problem
 set the sysctl vm.min_free_kbytes and adjust swappiness as described here
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/159356/comments/41
With this adjustment the issue have been reduced drastically, I'm not losing
control of the system even if it slows down when ramping up the swap use.
- I've not yet tried the suggestion here
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/159356/comments/35 because
with the previous tip the system is behaving much as expected, but I have it in
the list to test it if I experiment further crashes.

How did I reproduce it?
- First, I experience this when having several chrome tabs open (chrome is
eating a lot of memory lately being in tabs or in extensions). It's easy to
press CTRL+T several times and arrive to a memory limit.
- Second, I experience this when using virtualbox, given that the vm was asking
half of the memory available, as soon as I open a couple of tabs in chrome in
the host the system started to be unusable.
- Third, to reproduce it easily I've installed memtester application and run a
couple of instances of it asking 2G chunks, this effectively reproduce the
crash very effectively.

Tell me if I should add any other log to help diagnose the issue.
Hope this helps.

[Bug 1277245] Re: nvidia prime causing mouse and screen to freeze

2015-10-11 Thread Amir
This shouldn't be marked as expired. The bug still affects me, the
display freezes periodically when using the nvidia card and can only be
recovered by switching in an out of the dm. However, this makes normal
work impossible. So I think everybody just uses their intel card
instead. This doesn't mean that the bug doesnt exist.

[Bug 1504893] [NEW] Config parser fails with inline comments

2015-10-11 Thread Alkis Georgopoulos
Public bug reported:

$ tail -1 /etc/update-manager/release-upgrades
Prompt=never # Original value: Prompt=lts

I'm using inline comments like the one above to mark the original values in
files that I change in /etc.
But in this case it's considered an invalid value, probably like:
Prompt="never # Original value: Prompt=lts"

>From a programmer's side, maybe this can be explained with how ConfigParser
>inline comment parsing works by default in python etc.
But from a user's side, I think this is an unexpected problem that should be
resolved... :)

[Bug 1441852] Re: [HP Spectre x360 - 13-4010ca] Audio broken, broadwell-U audio controller

2015-10-11 Thread yom
@Christopher
I just updated to the F25 version BIOS, reverted back to the initial GRUB
config (with GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash") and booted two times:
no improvement, the bug is still here (no sound).

Reconfiguring GRUB to use the sound card in legacy (HDA) mode (with
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash acpi_backlight=vendor
acpi_osi='!Windows 2013' acpi_osi='!Windows 2012'") still works.

Same as the others, the command: sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo
dmidecode -s bios-release-date
Returns: /dev/mem: Operation not permitted

Installing libsmbios and using the command: sudo getSystemId
Returns:
Libsmbios version:  2.2.28
Product Name: HP Spectre x360 Convertible 13
Vendor: Hewlett-Packard
BIOS Version:   F.25
System ID: Could not determine System ID.

[Bug 1477394] Re: During boot with GRUB2, command keymap is accepted but has NO effect

2015-10-11 Thread Etienne URBAH
Inside https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Talk:GRUB :
I have read that the 'terminal_input' command may be useful for GRUB2 to accept
custom keyboard layouts.

Inside GRUB2 command line interface, following commands are accepted, but at
the end, GRUB2 still handles my USB keyboard as 'en_us' :
  terminal_input --append at_keyboard
  insmod keylayouts
  keymap fr_oss

In particular, after that, following command makes GRUB2 unresponsive :
  terminal_input --remove console

Is 'at_keyboard' correctly implemented ?

[Bug 1504659] Re: Duplicate line for path "/var/log" warning is shown when rsyslog is installed

2015-10-11 Thread Martin Pitt
Not sure what to do with this then -- I don't think we want to silence
the warning. If you write tmpfiles.d snippets they are useful to know
when something accidentally overlaps. We just know that this particular
instance is expected if you install rsyslog. Closing it as "wontfix"
won't magically make this warning go away either :-).

[Bug 1504781] Re: lxc-test-ubuntu hangs forever in trusty-proposed

2015-10-11 Thread Martin Pitt
To completely rule out that it's not the python3.4 regression in trusty-
proposed (bug 1500768) or the (really unrelated) udev fix in bug
1470399 I instead ran it with --apt-pocket=proposed --setup-commands
'apt-get update; apt-get -y install linux-generic' instead of the -U
/--apt-upgrade switch, so that it only runs against the new kernel, but
nothing else in -proposed.

@Stéphane: It would be really useful if the test suite could detect
failures of lxc-start, and show its output on failures. Such quiet
/forever-hanging tests without any timeouts are both unnecessarily hard
to detect, as well as put quite a burden on the infrastructure as they
just hang around for 2:50 hours until the autopkgtest timeout kicks in.

[Bug 1503219] Re: man page for clang-tidy contains error text

2015-10-11 Thread Hans Joachim Desserud
Thanks for reporting.

I see the same error message in the manpage for clang-tidy from clang
3.6.2-1 on Ubuntu Wily.

The clang packages are now built from llvm-toolchain-versionnumber
source packages, so I've taken the liberty of moving this. I've also
found a corresponding Debian bug and have attached a bug watch. Basd on
the latter it looks like this also affects other man pages in this
source package.

** Changed in: clang (Ubuntu)
   Status: New => Confirmed

** Package changed: clang (Ubuntu) => llvm-toolchain-3.6 (Ubuntu)

** Tags added: manpage wily

** Bug watch added: Debian Bug tracker #778255

** Also affects: llvm-toolchain-3.6 (Debian) via
   http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=778255

[Bug 1432171] Re: [udev] Shows "starting version 219" boot message even with "quiet"

2015-10-11 Thread Martin Pitt
Pretty please read the title, description, and first comments -- This
report is about showing the "starting version 219" text message during
early boot. This is purely cosmetical, has been silenced in 15.10, and
for sure does not actually break boot, logging in, etc. These effects
are much more likely to be failures of sddm, so please report bugs
against that. Thanks!

2015-10-11 Thread Felix Matouschek
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected

** Description changed:

  When disks are spun down and then accessed an error occurs which corrupts
data.
  When the disks are finally spun up everything works as expected, also
preventing them from spinning down works as a workaround.

  Could this be a NCQ bug?

  Drives are 5x Seagate ST3000DM001 and 1x HGST HDN724030ALE640.

[Bug 1258778] Re: IBus input candidates not shown in GNOME Fallback session

2015-10-11 Thread Ori Avtalion
Are you sure this is fixed in 14.04?

I'm still not able to add IBus input candidates in GNOME Fallback's Text Entry
settings.
I had to resort to manually editing the settings through dconf-editor, as
described here: http://askubuntu.com/a/512259

Having done that, the language is added to the indicator in the panel,
but switching via the hotkey doesn't work: It changes the indicator to
the IBus layout, but the keyboard presses are those of the previously-
cycled xkb layout. Selecting the input method by clicking the indicator
with the mouse works fine.

Note: It works fine in 15.04, but 14.04 is an LTS release, and a fix
would be appreciated.

[Bug 1504781] Re: lxc: test suites failing on trusty

2015-10-11 Thread Martin Pitt
Running lxc test against trusty-release in the CI production environment
still works fine (against kernel -65). I do get the hang with running
against -proposed, under otherwise the exact same circumstances.

The dist-upgrade to -proposed does the following:

The following NEW packages will be installed:
  linux-headers-3.13.0-66 linux-headers-3.13.0-66-generic
  linux-image-3.13.0-66-generic
The following packages will be upgraded:
  apport grub-common grub-pc grub-pc-bin grub2-common libpam-systemd
  libpython3.4-minimal libpython3.4-stdlib libsystemd-daemon0
  libsystemd-login0 libudev1 linux-headers-generic linux-headers-virtual
  linux-image-virtual linux-virtual ntpdate python3-apport
  python3-problem-report python3.4 python3.4-minimal systemd-services udev

I obviously hangs in lxc-test-ubuntu. I wonder if that's the first test
which actually uses a bootstrapped full ubuntu image, not just a simple
busybox one?

When it hangs, the following test related processes are running:

lxc-dns+  3298  0.0  0.0  28204   956 ?S09:07   0:00 dnsmasq -u

/var/lib/lxc/4a5f2adb-d593-4837-8698-f5455e95729e/rootfs/ looks like a
normal rootfs, and
/var/lib/lxc/4a5f2adb-d593-4837-8698-f5455e95729e/config exists too.

However, dmesg contains

[  352.395653] type=1400 audit(1444554813.144:26): apparmor="DENIED"
operation="mount" info="failed type match" error=-13 profile="/usr/bin
/lxc-start" name="/dev/ptmx" pid=31390 comm="lxc-start"
srcname="/dev/pts/ptmx" flags="rw, bind"

and when I try to start it, I indeed get

lxc-start: lxc_start.c: main: 346 Additional information can be obtained by
setting the --logfile and --logpriority options.

and the same apparmor error repeated. So this surely does look like some
lxc/kernel/apparmor related change to me, and I'd hold back that kernel
until this gets examined more closely.

[Bug 1504914] Re: System freeze/restart on high memory usage

2015-10-11 Thread yas
I've tested it in the upstream kernel as indicated here:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/MainlineBuilds
$ uname -a
Linux ultra 3.14.1-031401-generic #201404141220 SMP Mon Apr 14 16:21:48 UTC
2014 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

It behaves properly when swap is on, and when swap is off it slows down when
reaching higher limits of memory consumption and finally google-chrome crashes
and memtester quits when trying to access more than available memory.
The system stays stable, losing a little of responsiveness (even if CPU is not
at maximum usage) but being still usable . I guess is reasonable expected and a
much better behavior.

It comes already with this default values:
vm.swappiness = 60
vm.min_free_kbytes = 67584
vm.vfs_cache_pressure = 100

Hope this helps.
