[Bug 1129849] Re: Valadoc man pag has wrong reference to “--enable-checking”

2015-11-21 Thread Hans Joachim Desserud
I saw the corresponding Debian issue had been fixed, and the same
version had been synced to the current development version. I've tested
with valadoc 0.23.2~git20150422-3 on Ubuntu Xenial and neither
"--enable-checking" nor "--enable-deprecated" is present in the manpage.
Thus, I believe this issue can be marked as Fix Released.

[Bug 1518578] [NEW] [packaging]update-notifier-cds uses `udisks` command but not depending on it

2015-11-21 Thread Vdragon
Public bug reported:

Hi, I'm random-browsing in my Upstart user session
logs(~/.cache/upstart) and found something interesting in update-
notifier-cds.log:

```
六 11月 21 09:00:49 CST 2015 CD found at /dev/sdd
/proc/self/fd/9: 5: /proc/self/fd/9: udisks: not found
```

It seems that update-notifier-cds tries to call `udisks` command but it
fails due to Ubuntu Desktop isn't default installing that command.

### Solutions?
* It should be using the pre-installed `udisksctl` command to fetch Udisks info
instead, or
* it should at least depend on udisks package for `udisks` command.

[Bug 1336451] Re: Cannot boot/run ubuntu without "acpi=off" or "nolapic" or "idle=poll". Freezes otherwise.

2015-11-21 Thread Callan
Another update.

The idle=poll option was more of a power hog than I realized. I actually
ended up going back to nolapic a few days after I used it. After the
electricity ran out much, MUCH faster than it should have.

The most recent thing I looked into is the max cstate options.

processor.max_cstate didn't seem to work.
Though intel_idle.max_cstate does work.

I am able to use up to intel_idle.max_cstate=2.
This is what I now have as my default boot option. Power usage seems to be
acceptable and I am able to see all my cores.

When I try intel_idle.max_cstate=3 it fails in the same way as when
there are no boot options.

So cstate 3 seems to be where the issue lies, as far as I can tell.

I do not know how to debug this problem though.
Is anyone still watching this bug report?

[Bug 1517882] Re: Excessive logging and problems with brcmsmac: bcma0:1: START: tid 1 is not agg'able

2015-11-21 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
alphac, could you please test the latest upstream kernel available from
the very top line at the top of the page from http://kernel.ubuntu.com
/~kernel-ppa/mainline/?C=N;O=D (the release names are irrelevant for
testing, and please do not test the daily folder)? Install instructions
are available at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/MainlineBuilds . This
will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue.

If the latest kernel did not allow you to test to the issue (ex. you couldn't
boot into the OS) please make a comment in your report about this, and continue
to test the next most recent kernel version until you can test to the issue.
Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel version
specifically you tested. If this issue is fixed in the mainline kernel, please
add the following tags by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil
icon, next to the word Tags, located at the bottom of the report description:
kernel-fixed-upstream
kernel-fixed-upstream-X.Y-rcZ

Where X, and Y are the first two numbers of the kernel version, and Z is
the release candidate number if it exists.

If the mainline kernel does not fix the issue, please add the following tags:
kernel-bug-exists-upstream
kernel-bug-exists-upstream-X.Y-rcZ

Please note, an error to install the kernel does not fit the criteria of
kernel-bug-exists-upstream.

Once testing of the latest upstream kernel is complete, please mark this
report's Status as Confirmed. Please let us know your results.

Thank you for your understanding.

[Bug 1517161] Re: virtualbox SRU for CVE

2015-11-21 Thread LocutusOfBorg
Hi Tyler, well, I would like if possible to trash the ubuntu changelog,
and start from the exact debian security changelog + the ubuntu change.

e.g. for vivid I started from the trusty changelog, but vivid has an
ubuntu1 and ubuntu2 delta (that is already part of Debian changelogs)

I would appreciate if the above fixes can start from the debian virtualbox.git
(jessie and wheezy branches)
http://anonscm.debian.org/cgit/pkg-virtualbox/virtualbox.git
but they are nitpicks, I'm not sure about how ubuntu likes rewriting changelogs
of previous releases :)

(I'm an ubuntu vivid user x64 at this moment, I didn't upgrade to wily
yet).

So I did:

download the last trusty from ubuntu.com
install trusty x64 on a virtual machine
install virtualbox (the current one) inside
--fail because of the too new kernel (the dkms doesn't run successfully anymore)

installed virtualbox from my ppa
installed a trusty 32 bit inside my trusty VM,
upgraded everything, rebooted them both

everything was still running
(I also installed the guest-* modules IIRC)

for precise I did mostly the same
install precise in a VM
install the current virtualbox
install trusty 32 bit inside the virtualbox
poweroff the trusty VM inside the VM

upgraded virtualbox to the ppa version
rebooted the trusty VM
checked that everything was still running fine after the upgrade.

The problem about upgrades is that sometimes machines doesn't start anymore,
but it should happen
only between major releases, not minor.

For me it is safe to update, but well, it is an huge piece of software,
it might break on obscure operating systems, architectures, CPU, kernels
and so on...

So far the Debian work has been a complete success, so I think the Ubuntu same
work will be too.
(and I have to say, upstream is really good at testing minor releases and keep
the work done correctly, with no regressions)

[Bug 1517491] Re: installation fails due to broken dependencies

2015-11-21 Thread Hans Joachim Desserud
Thanks for providing the requested information, that looks right.

>a just upgraded Ubuntu 15.10

Hm... my 15.10 vm is a clean install, so maybe this issue is affected by
some packages from older releases?

Ok, here's a couple of questions:
1. Usually when packages have unmet dependencies, some other installed packages
are conflicting and prevent the an underlying package from being installed.
Could you try to drill down from one of the packages which isn't going to be
installed and see whether something is uninstallable because it conflicts with
another package?
2. Do you have packages installed from any PPAs which might affect these
packages?
3. Out of curiosity, could you test switching to a different package mirror and
see whether you can install then? In case the mirror has some temporarily
missing package (version) that would explain why I can install it.

[Bug 1101022] Re: Cannot open multiple Firefox windows with the Profile Manager

2015-11-21 Thread Rodrigo
When you open a program the behavior of the launcher icon is changed to
maximize the window if it's minimized or to spread the windows if there is
multiple windows open.
If you right click and select "new window" a new window is opened instead of
opening the profile manager.

Having this issue in Linux Mint 17.2 for a few days now and it
completely prevents me from applying updates with mint update manager...
(tried selecting different individual packages each time hoping the bug
affected one of them and not the whole process but it doesn't matter)

Is there a workaround I can try like reinstalling the affected package
from a PPA or something? I have security updates pending from this and
this has started to worry me :(

[Bug 1516822] Re: Xorg crashes with segmentation fault

2015-11-21 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Stephen Eisenhauer, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu
better.

As per http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-
netbooks/thinkpad-t-series-laptops/thinkpad-t540p an update to your
computer's buggy and outdated BIOS is available (2.21). If you update to
this following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate does it
change anything?

If it doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the
output of the following terminal command:
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date

For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette
.

Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so
posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful. As well, you don't
have to create a new bug report.

Once the BIOS is updated, if the problem is still reproducible, and the
information above is provided, then please mark this report Status New.
Otherwise, please mark this as Invalid.

Thank you for your understanding.

[Bug 1282542] Re: (synaptic:3405): GLib-CRITICAL **: g_child_watch_add_full: assertion 'pid > 0' failed

2015-11-21 Thread Paulo Villi
UPDATE: seems like "(synaptic:20090): GLib-CRITICAL **:
g_child_watch_add_full: assertion 'pid > 0' failed" was not an issue on
its own... I tried to delete the folder
"/usr/share/mime/application/x-dar.xml" and replacing it with a copy of
the file "/usr/share/mime/application/x-dar.xml.new" manually and now
mint updates are back to work.

Sorry for not trying this before posting here... :)

PS: since the folder was not opening at all, I believe it was a corrupted file
being seen by the system as a folder... fortunately no other damage is
noticeable and deleting the folder didn't cause any other issues
PS2: had to use a liveboot Linux Mint pendrive to replace the folder with the
file because NEMO (linux mint file explorer) *even when ran with administrative
privileges (gksu)* said parent folder "/usr/share/mime/application/" was read
only when I tried to copy the file, even though it had just let me delete the
folder (go figure!?)

[Bug 1505796] Re: Unity panel disappearing after quiting fullscreen mode

2015-11-21 Thread David Lelièvre
I have the same issue on several computers with ubuntu 14.04/unity.
I can reproduce also with :

1. open terminal
2. go to full screen (F11)
3. go to Desktop (SUPER+D)
--> no launcher and top panel, no access to launcher via SUPER
4. switch to another non full screen app with ALT-TAB
--> no launcher and top panel so no menu...
5. switch back to full screen app with ALT-TAB
6. switch to another app and it's ok, back as usual...

[Bug 1136110] Re: USB Audio Codec choppy playback

2015-11-21 Thread Tyson Tan
I thoroughly tested the patches when the bug happened to me before. The
same kind of stuttering never happened again after the fix was released.
I suppose the newer reports are not related to this bug. Please
understand not all choppy audio has the same source.

You may troubleshoot over these things:
1) Turn off Wireless and Bluetooth. CSR Bluetooth adapters are more stable.
Broadcom to my experience is very bad at this. Realtek wifi chips are kinda
bad, too.
2) Do not use USB hub, or make sure it is sufficiently powered (>500mA per
port, >2A DC adapter).
3) Make sure the playback samplerate is native of the device. Pulseaudio's SRC
could introduce stuttering. If your DAC is 48K by default and you output 44.1K
to Pulseaudio, it can chop things up.
4) Do not use aggressive power save options in your BIOS.
5) Try plug the DAC on USB2.0 only ports, not USB3.0 ports. Many USB3.0 ports
are running on 3rd party chips.

Hope it helps!

[Bug 1518568] [NEW] Embedded subtitles are not detected

2015-11-21 Thread claudio@ubuntu
Public bug reported:

The version of handbrake in the Ubuntu archives does not detect embedded
subtitles. As a consequence, the options in the "Subtitle list" tab are
always empty. Even, when clicking "Add" the option radio button for
embedded subtitles is grey out and only the option to add srt files is
available. I tried with sevaral video files with different video
encondings.

This does *not* happen with the handbrake supplied by the handbrake ppa
(https://launchpad.net/~stebbins/+archive/ubuntu/handbrake-releases).
Although the same version, the ppa version works as expected.

C.

[Bug 1518566] Re: Ubuntu 15.10 freezing randomly

2015-11-21 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Spyros Theodoritsis, thank you for reporting this and helping make
Ubuntu better.

As per http://www.asus.com/Notebooks/X751MA/HelpDesk_Download/ an update
to your computer's buggy and outdated BIOS is available (403). If you
update to this following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate
does it address the issue?

If it doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the
output of the following terminal command:
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date

For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette
.

Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so
posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful.

Also, you don't have to create a new bug report.

Once the BIOS is updated, if the problem is still reproducible, and the
information above is provided, then please mark this report Status
Confirmed. Otherwise, please mark this as Invalid.

Thank you for your understanding.

[Bug 1517222] Re: Additional monitor does not always come online anymore after suspend

2015-11-21 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Vadim Peretokin, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu
better.

As per
http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/swd/public/readIndex?sp4ts.oid=5428311=8=4060
an update to your computer's buggy and outdated BIOS is available
(1.33). If you update to this following
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate does it change anything?

If it doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the
output of the following terminal command:
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date

[Bug 1500925] Re: Ubuntu 15.10 Idle freezing/screen not waking up

2015-11-21 Thread Ertan Günay
My last temporary solution on that issue:
After locking screen,
When the screen goes to black
I press any key
Than the brightness of screen comes back
And never goes to black.

But
If I forget to press any key
Or after reboot if I cannot login on the time,
Screen goes to black and the solution is reboot the system.

[Bug 1482711] Re: X displays nothing instead of login screen

2015-11-21 Thread Nicholas
Just in case anyone's still listening. The most recent update, which
included an nvidia driver update (340.96-0ubuntu0.14.04.1), pushed back
the version of the latest kernel that worked. 3.13.0-58 no longer works.
57 gives bad resolution, I am testing 55, 32 still works. So it seems
like whatever is causing my problem is being updated to work with
earlier kernel versions.

[Bug 1380480] Re: network disabled after suspend - resume

2015-11-21 Thread Elena
This bug occurs to me as well on a clean install of Ubuntu 15.10 (64 bits).
I have it installed on a Dell xps lalptop (I can give more details if needed).

Anyway... I've notice a very important detail. This behaviour only
happens to me when I close the laptop and it is suspended automatically.

That does NOT happen if I suspend it manually.

The network-manager version installed is: 1.0.4-0ubuntu5.1.

Tell me if I can help giving any other information

Same for me. I use ext4 / and /home without swap and fsck runs for /home
in every boot.

[Bug 634454] Re: Attempted to kill init! on IQ770

2015-11-21 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
jimlovell777, let us not require a new report for now given that while
things have drastically improved (95% no issue), but it's not 100%.

Hence, could you please boot with either 15.10 or 16.04 live environment
and then perform the command requested in
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/634454/comments/11
?
