[Bug 1505564] Re: Soft lockup with "block nbdX: Attempted send on closed socket" spam

2015-12-30 Thread Junien Fridrick
Re-reading comment #318 Dan, I realize that we may be investigating a
symptom and not the root cause.

Whenever the soft-lockup happens, the serial console does get flooded
"block nbdX: Attempted send on closed socket". If the serial console
getting flooded causes soft lockups, then it is indeed a concerning
issue, but shouldn't we focus, in this bug, on making nbd not flood the
console in the first place ?

[Bug 1442076] Re: util-linux FTBFS: cannot find -lmount

2015-12-30 Thread Filipe Brandenburger
This is a real bug... The most likely reason why it stopped reproducing
is because libmount-dev was installed in the base host?

In any case, upstream fix (or workaround) is here:
https://github.com/karelzak/util-linux/pull/247

Cheers,
Filipe

[Bug 1487890] Re: [synaptic] no history

2015-12-30 Thread monkeybrain2012
Opps, sorry, it is fine. Seems to be some ongoing problem with search
sometimes not showing all packages.. The left panel shows only ALL and
LOCAL under "status" when this happens

P. S Maybe related to http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2277471
(which is not really solved. The work around need to be re-applied
periodically in Wily though seems to be working in vivid from tips on
another thread I am trying to find now)

Thanks again.

[Bug 1509326] Re: Various instabilities after resuming from standby

2015-12-30 Thread Joachim Durchholz
Okay... I'm seeing some glitches with Nouveau, but not all.
1) Spontaneous wake-ups, not going to sleep when told to, and similar are gone.
2) There is still improper detection of monitor configuration changes between
suspend and resume. Dlosing and reopening the lid fixed that in one instance,
don't know whether that is a general rule.

Now that monitor detection is clearly identified as an unrelated problem, I
agree it should go to a separate problem report.
How do I proceed about the spontaneous wake-ups?

[Bug 1519823] Re: regular crash of X. lightdm is shown after crash

2015-12-30 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Luca Frosini, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu
better. However, your crash report is manually attached.

Please follow these instructions to have apport report a new bug about your
crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer. First, execute at a
terminal:
cd /var/crash && sudo rm * ; sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get -y
dist-upgrade && sudo service apport start force_start=1

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport in
/etc/default/apport and restart. Now reproduce the crash, then open a terminal,
navigate to your /var/crash directory and file your report with:
sudo ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash

where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report. By
default, this sends the crash to the Ubuntu Error Tracker
infrastructure, which is different than Launchpad. For more on this,
please see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ErrorTracker .

However, if after doing this you would still like to have a crash report posted
to Launchpad, for example to ease triage and add others to your report, one
would need to open the following file via a terminal:
sudo nano /etc/apport/crashdb.conf

and comment out the line:
'problem_types': ['Bug', 'Package'],

by changing it to:
# 'problem_types': ['Bug', 'Package'],

Save, close, and file the crash report via:
sudo ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash

If you do open this report, please feel free to subscribe me to it.

However, I'm closing this report since the process outlined above will
deal with this issue more efficiently. Also, please do not attach your
crash report manually to this report and reopen it. Thank you for your
understanding.

[Bug 1530187] Re: r852 & r592 IRQ: DMA errors cause log files to grow *HUGE*

2015-12-30 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Laurent Martin-Borret, at your earliest convenience, could you please
test the latest upstream kernel available from the very top line at the
top of the page from http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-
ppa/mainline/?C=N;O=D (the release names are irrelevant for testing, and
please do not test the daily folder)? Install instructions are available
at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/MainlineBuilds . This will allow
additional upstream developers to examine the issue.

If testing on your main install would be inconvenient, one may:
1) Install Ubuntu to a different partition and then test this there.
2) Backup, or clone the primary install.

If the latest kernel did not allow you to test to the issue (ex. you couldn't
boot into the OS) please make a comment in your report about this, and continue
to test the next most recent kernel version until you can test to the issue.
Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel version
specifically you tested. If this issue is fixed in the mainline kernel, please
add the following tags by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil
icon, next to the word Tags, located at the bottom of the report description:
kernel-fixed-upstream
kernel-fixed-upstream-X.Y-rcZ

Where X, and Y are the first two numbers of the kernel version, and Z is
the release candidate number if it exists.

If the mainline kernel does not fix the issue, please add the following tags:
kernel-bug-exists-upstream
kernel-bug-exists-upstream-X.Y-rcZ

Please note, an error to install the kernel does not fit the criteria of
kernel-bug-exists-upstream.

Once testing of the latest upstream kernel is complete, please mark this
report's Status as Confirmed. Please let us know your results.

Thank you for your understanding.

Same problem in 15.10... will this ever be fixed?

location, Files hangs and often needs to be killed.

[Bug 1493143] Re: rtl8723be wifi unusable on lenovo ideapad y50-70

2015-12-30 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Henk Stubbe, to advise, it's much easier to debug, and keep upstream's
attention, when talking about one router with easy access to specifics
(ex. Linksys), versus all the different ones that may be connected to,
and/or ones where specifics aren't available.

Despite this, with your device specifically, it has a two-parter, the
kernel, which you have tested a later version of, and the firmware,
which is the older one in Trusty.

Hence, in order to allow additional upstream developers to examine the
issue, could you please test this with the latest firmware, and latest
upstream kernel?

The latest firmware is available in Vivid+, or via

Regarding the latest mainline kernel, could you please test the latest
one available from the very top line at the top of the page from
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/?C=N;O=D (the release
names are irrelevant for testing, and please do not test the daily
folder)? Install instructions are available at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/MainlineBuilds .

[Bug 1527353] Re: ubiquity shows for a second goes to tty then starts live session.

This bug was fixed in the package ubiquity - 2.21.41

ubiquity (2.21.41) xenial; urgency=medium

  * Pass "-term linux" when running setterm from start-ubiquity-dm, as
without TERM set it otherwise refuses to do anything.
  * Set "Before=plymouth-quit.service plymouth-quit-wait.service" in
ubiquity.service, so that plymouth isn't told to quit while we're busy
starting up on its VT (LP: #1527353).

[Bug 839286] Re: oneconf-query crashed with DBusException in call_blocking(): org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown: The name :1.75 was not provided by any .service files

2015-12-30 Thread David Leonard
I had a corrupted ~/.cache/oneconf directory, causing oneconf-server to
crash (a KeyError in hosts.py: self.current_host['hostid']) and then I
would see the same DBusException from the oneconf-query client as
described above.

Deleting ~/.cache/oneconf fixed it for me.

[Bug 1530231] [NEW] zfs devices not mounted

2015-12-30 Thread Hadmut Danisch
Public bug reported:

Hi,

ubuntu desktops (tested with xfce and lxde) automatically mount USB
block devices (disks, pendrive, memcards) when plugged in, even with
different file systems liks dosfs, ext4, btrfs. Also works with luks-
encrypted devices.

Unfortunately, it does not work with zfs . Since zfs-fuse is part of the
regular ubunt, and it was somewhere announced to have kernel-based zfs
in the regular kernel package from 16.04 xenial, the automounter should
definitely support zfs as well.

Hint: Since zfs file systems come with configured mount paths, it's a
good idea to mount then with

zpool import -R /media/USER/

Hadmut

[Bug 1530233] [NEW] puppet outdated

Public bug reported:

Hi,

the current alpha of xenial 16.04 still comes with a puppet 3.8.4, but
the current version of puppet is 4.3. Since 16.04 is supposed to be a
LTS release, would be good to have a recent major version.

[Bug 1528886] Re: Checking for updates never finishes

2015-12-30 Thread royden
Given that "download" appears as the option, if you are correct,
that is a rather poor choice of word. I assume that
"detect an update" and "download" are different. Am I wrong,
because I believe that I detect them on 3G even though I do
not want to auto-download them?

I think this is a regression from the big plymouth merge a while back;
the timing of the failures on
https://jenkins.qa.ubuntu.com/view/Releases/view/Xenial/job/xenial-
desktop-amd64-smoke-default/ is exactly right for that. I haven't
worked it all out, but I'm seeing the X server that's started from

[Bug 1529757] Re: Error 403: Forbidden ==> endless loop

2015-12-30 Thread rvm
I'm afraid the log doesn't contain info about the problem.

Is the "repeat" button in the playlist on? That's the only way I can
reproduce your problem.

It seems Ubuntu always includes very old versions of SMPlayer. You can get the
latest one in this PPA:
https://launchpad.net/~rvm/+archive/ubuntu/smplayer

By the way, it's still possible to play Youtube videos in version 14.9,
but you have to "Update the Youtube code" (option in the Help menu).

[Bug 1530213] [NEW] no unique strings for wily and xenial (updates to translation files needed)

2015-12-30 Thread Anthony Harrington
Public bug reported:

Hi there!
2 issues:

1) Noticed the next translation strings need to be bumped for xenial
(and one or two don't make sense for wily either!)

i.e. https://translations.launchpad.net/ubuntu/xenial/+source/ubiquity-
slideshow-ubuntu/+pots/ubiquity-slideshow-kubuntu/en_GB/45/+translate

"Thank you for choosing Kubuntu 15.04. We hope you enjoy the
experience."

at the moment, there's only the one string that carries over, so setting
that to '15.10' or '16.04' for wily or xenial sets it to that for all
ubuntu versions being worked on. Obviously, there should be a unique one
for each version.

2) Also related is this issue:
https://translations.launchpad.net/ubuntu/xenial/+source/ubiquity-slideshow-ubuntu/+pots/ubiquity-slideshow-kubuntu/en_GB/8/+translate

for new strings in xenial, what is "KDE Software Compilation" now,
officially? "KDE KF5 Applications" and "KDE Applications Frameworks"
have been some suggestions, but that doesn't read well and the new name
change needs to make it into the new strings too.

Cheers :)
Anthony

[Bug 1303736] Re: [SRU] Black screen after wakeup from suspending by closing the laptop lid

2015-12-30 Thread Luke Schlather
Can someone remove the "fix released" tag? It looks like XFCE punted to
Red Hat's bug tracker on the assumption that the issue is distro-
specific, which seems wrong and like the bug should be reopened
upstream, since as near as I can tell nobody has a fix, or even
understands the issue.

[Bug 1530194] Re: setserial =>ERROR CODE 1!! after apt-get autoremove

2015-12-30 Thread Don Juan Santiago
I solved the issue using the following links

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1597294

alt+f2... gksudo lxterminal... sudo dpkg --force-all -P setserial

http://askubuntu.com/questions/539235/how-to-remove-obsolete-packages-
after-failed-release-upgrade-via-do-release-upgr

apt-get update

apt-get autoremove

apt-get clean

UNUSCONF=$(dpkg -l|grep "^rc"|awk '{print $2}')

apt-get remove --purge $UNUSCONF

NEWKERNEL=$(uname -r|sed 's/-*[a-z]//g'|sed 's/-386//g')

ADDKERNEL="linux-(image|headers|ubuntu-modules|restricted-modules)"

METAKERNEL="linux-(image|headers|restricted-
modules)-(generic|i386|server|common|rt|xen)"

UNUSKERNELS=$(dpkg -l|awk '{print $2}'|grep -E $ADDKERNEL |grep -vE
$METAKERNEL|grep -v $NEWKERNEL)

apt-get remove --purge $UNUSKERNELS

update-grub

*** than after a reboot.. using Synaptic Package Manager.. reinstalled
setserial package

P.S. I guess Upgrading from lubuntu 15.04 with 3.19 version of vmlinuz
to 15.10 doesnt cleanup all the old upgrades...

The above path for reproducing the error works reliably, even after a

[Bug 1530205] Re: X Segfaults

2015-12-30 Thread Klaas van Schelven
I've managed to find a path to reliably reproduce, ironically while
attempting to provide further information:

In both Chrome & Chromium, selecting the above stacktrace, rightclicking
and selecting "Copy" crashes X.

[Bug 1530205] [NEW] X Segfaults

2015-12-30 Thread Klaas van Schelven
Public bug reported:

My system started crashing at regular intervals (10 minutes to one hour)
since this afternoon;

I'm not aware of running any updates, but I might have done an "aptitude
safe-upgrade" anywhere in the past week. I'm fully up to date on Ubuntu
14.04.3 now.

The problems seem to exclusively occur when running Chrome (47) /
Chromium (45) (I switched to that browser when the problem occurred a
few times, but this didn't solve it), but this may also simply be a
consequence of my browser being the most Graphics-heavy part of the
system.

I'm running on a MacbookPro, inside Parallels; this was not a problem
until this afternoon.

/var/log/Xorg.0.log looks like this:

[Bug 1530204] [NEW] "composer create-project drupal/drupal hellodrupal 8.0.0" throws error

2015-12-30 Thread Dan Kegel
Public bug reported:

Created a fresh ubuntu 15.10 container, tried using composer to install drupal8:
--- snip ---
$ sudo apt-get install composer
$ composer create-project drupal/drupal hellodrupal 8.0.0
  - Installing drupal/drupal (8.0.0)
Cloning ca30166e37ed78e1f9920dc42a82396d98d2a3f4

Generating autoload files
Script Drupal\Core\Composer\Composer::preAutoloadDump handling the
pre-autoload-dump event terminated with an exception

  [UnexpectedValueException]
  Invalid version string ">"
--- snip ---

Was considering reporting this to the composer folks, but I see that version of
composer
doesn't even know its own version:
$ composer --version
Composer version @package_branch_alias_version@ (@package_version@)
@release_date@

Uninstalling this composer and using the dreaded "curl | php" method to install
it worked around both problems,
so it looks like ubuntu's composer needs to be refreshed from upstream.

[Bug 1530197] [NEW] Login screen asks for wifi password on startup

2015-12-30 Thread Jaromir Obr
Public bug reported:

Similar to #1270791

Steps I did:

# Install Ubuntu desktop from live image (fresh installation)
# Set WiFi connection and enter password - it's saved well. I'm using a hidden
network with WPA2-PSK encryption
# Reboot

Expected result:
As the password was saved, no dialog requiring it appears

Actual result:
Always when I get the login screen, the popup window asking for password
appears.
Note that when I login, the network connection is established correctly
