[Bug 975198] Re: alternate iso missing hid-logitech-dj driver

2016-01-02 Thread Jeremiah James
This appears to still be an issue. I've attempted to install 14.04.3
using a Logitech K800. I can begin the install process, though I'm stuck
at the first step of the installation: [!!] Select a language.

[Bug 1530528] [NEW] printing problem with kernel

2016-01-02 Thread Nick Sillito
Public bug reported:

I have a canon MG 7150 printer. I have a server running ubuntu server 14.04.3
(64 bit). The printer is shared across my network (Linux mint, Mac OSX and
windows 7) with CUPS.
I use canon supplied drivers for linux version 4.0.0 (i have the following
packages installed: cnijfilter-mg7100series_4.00-1_amd64.deb &
cnijfilter-common_4.00-1_amd64.deb)
Printing has always worked fine up to (and including) kernel 3.13.0-68,
however, if I use kernel 3.13.0-71, -73 or -74 I cannot print.
If I give the command lp /etc/hosts I get the response "lp: Error - Scheduler
not responding". On the CUPS web interface jobs are listed as "printer not
responding; will retry in 30 seconds..."

I have also tried installing the cannon drivers on my desktop machine
(LinuxMint 15.10, kernel 3.13.0-32) and that also works fine.

Sorry this isnt much to go on -- I couldn't see anything relevant in the
syslog.

[Bug 1518566] Re: Ubuntu 15.10 freezing randomly

2016-01-02 Thread Thomas Moestl
I am experiencing this bug as well, on the same hardware. I have tested the
mainline builds, and can confirm that the bug
exists with
linux-image-4.4.0-040400rc7-generic_4.4.0-040400rc7.201512272230_amd64 as well.

After some searching, it appears that this bug is known in upstream:
https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=109051

As such, it probably occurs on most machines with Intel BayTrail processors,
and is so far unresolved in upstream,
to my knowledge.

As the bug report mentions, there is a workaround, namely to add
"intel_idle.max_cstate=1" to the boot options
(using grub, add this to the GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT in /etc/default/grub,
then run update-grub). This likely
comes at the cost of some increase in power consumption, but so far it seems to
work for me. If I get any more
hangs even with this option, I will leave another comment.

[Bug 995332] Re: Please enhance NetworkManager such that DNSSEC validation is done whenever possible

2016-01-02 Thread Nicolas Delvaux
On Wily, I edited /etc/dnsmasq.d/network-manager and added the following
lines:

# DNSSEC setup
dnssec
trust-anchor=.,19036,8,2,49AAC11D7B6F6446702E54A1607371607A1A41855200FD2CE1CDDE32F24E8FB5
dnssec-check-unsigned

I then restarted network-manager and tried to connect to
http://www.dnssec-failed.org/.
As expected, the site does not load (it is deliberately configured to fail
DNSSEC validation).
But when reloading the page multiple-time, it is sometime displayed! I don't
understand why.

[Bug 1529381] Re: Updating 14.04.3 to latest updates renders system unbootable

2016-01-02 Thread Carl Englund
I got it! If I didn't mess it up but I don't think so.

Side question: do you have to do "fakeroot debian/rules clean" for every
step when bisecting? The guide was a bit unclear on that. I was just
thinking the compile process might be quicker if I didn't do clean in
between..

ACPICA commit 4da56eeae0749dfe8491285c1e1fad48f6efafd8

The following commit temporarily disables correct 64-bit FADT addresses

With enough protections, this patch re-enables 64-bit FADT addresses by

be bisected and reverted.
Note that 64-bit FACS favor and 64-bit firmware waking vector favor are
excluded by this commit in order not to break OSPMs. Lv Zheng.

[Bug 995332] Re: Please enhance NetworkManager such that DNSSEC validation is done whenever possible

2016-01-02 Thread Nicolas Delvaux
For some reason, subsequent DNS queries do not always bring the same
result here with the above configuration:

First queries after a reboot return what's expected:

And then, suddenly:

nicolas@nicolas-desktop:~ 0 $ dig www.dnssec-failed.org

[Bug 1513914] Re: Dell E7440 touchpad jumps position

2016-01-02 Thread Martyn
I would like to be able to post the URL, but how do I find it?

I have not had any replies to the two reports which I emailed to
dmitry.torok...@gmail.com with cc to linux-in...@vger.kernel.org (on 20th
November for results with kernel 4.3.0-040300-generic) and on 7th December for
results with kernel 4.4.0-040400rc3-generic)
Also, I have searched the forum for any posting relating to my problem and not
found any.

Which archive at VGER.KERNEL.ORG should I be looking at to find the URL
to post?

I have also checked with kernel's 4.4.0-040400rc5-generic and
4.4.0-040400rc7-generic, and the problem does still exist.

[Bug 1530521] [NEW] librsvg 2.40.12 crashes when rendering SVGs with filters

2016-01-02 Thread dino99
Public bug reported:

How to reproduce:

- with a gnome-shell session, try to get 'dash to dock' extension icons to be
displayed directly or via gnome-tweak-tool, but fails
- open the 'media' subfolder of that extension makes nautilus crashing (crash
file joined)

- digging around, the 'logo.svg' file is the faulty image
- confirmed by upstream: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=759084 as

[Bug 1033598] Re: the CAPTCHA challenge in Ubuntu Software Center is much too difficult to solve for a real human being

2016-01-02 Thread Kerry
I am a first-time Linux user of any distro. I chose Ubuntu for my laptop
because I had read that it is the best distro for laptops in its
interface. Had I not been a person who is loathe to use Microsoft and
one who cannot afford Mac, I probably would be looking to go elsewhere
after encountering this very severe problem with the CAPTCHA.
Truthfully, I am downright mad that after 3 years this issue is
basically being ignored. Here you have a community that prides itself on
forward-thinking and out-side-the-box alternatives to modern computing,
yet it maintains a Neanderthal approach to solving established problems
within its system. Way to welcome new Ubuntu users. In all seriousness,
I may be choosing to switch to LinuxMint after this experience. Yes,
Ubuntu Community, this issue is serious enough that even after having
installed the distro, set-up an account, and found a way to get past the
CAPTCHA bug, I -- and likely many others -- am considering dumping this
distro for another. Take that to mean you have a lot of work to do if
you want to be welcoming of new users. So far, you are failing
miserably. In truth, I expect little to be done, as it seems that this
community is more about the status quo than continued evolving
improvement. If that weren't the case, this would not still be a bug
after 3 years.

[Bug 995332] Re: Please enhance NetworkManager such that DNSSEC validation is done whenever possible

2016-01-02 Thread Nicolas Delvaux
For some reason, subsequent DNS queries do not always bring the same
result here with the above configuration:

First queries after a reboot return what's expected:

nicolas@nicolas-desktop:~ 0 $ dig www.dnssec-failed.org

And then, suddenly:

nicolas@nicolas-desktop:~ 0 $ dig www.dnssec-failed.org

[Bug 1530540] [NEW] Put thermald as recommendation into linux-image-W.X.Y-Z-generic, not into linux-image-generic

2016-01-02 Thread Oleksandr Pikozh
Public bug reported:

The linux-image-*.*.*-*-generic packages have set of dependencies,
recommendations and suggestions.
However, for some reason, the thermald recommendation isn't put there, but
instead is put as recommendation for linux-image-generic meta-package.
Put thermald as recommendation into linux-image-*.*.*-*-generic, not into
linux-image-generic.

Reasons:
1. Common style.
2. If I for whatever reason (for example, I want to stick to concrete kernel
version) uninstalled linux-image-generic meta-package, it won't tell me that
thermald is no more needed.

[Bug 1530529] [NEW] printing problem with kernel

Sorry this isnt much to go on -- I couldn't see anything relevant in the
syslog.

[Bug 1530530] [NEW] Installer doesn't show up on Chromebook Pixel 2

2016-01-02 Thread [Po]lentino
Public bug reported:

I downloaded Ubuntu Wily 15.10, then copied into an USB drive in order to use
that to install Ubuntu on my Chromebook Pixel 2.
After selecting the drive to boot from, I only get a terminal that shows up the
following lines:

graphics initialization failed
Error setting up gfxboot
boot:

Same happens with any *buntu ISO image ( I tried KDE and XFCE as well).
At this point, I tried to download the Debian8 ISO image and I noticed that
the installer doesn't recognize the video size, too but then asks for the user
to manually select a suitable video format from a list of options. From that
point on, I was able to install Debian on the chromebook.

[Bug 1530459] Re: Samsung SSD 840 failed to get NCQ

2016-01-02 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
JohnShep, at your earliest convenience, could you please test the latest
upstream kernel available from the very top line at the top of the page
from http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/?C=N;O=D (the release
names are irrelevant for testing, and please do not test the daily
folder)? Install instructions are available at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/MainlineBuilds . This will allow
additional upstream developers to examine the issue.

If testing on your main install would be inconvenient, one may:
1) Install Ubuntu to a different partition and then test this there.
2) Backup, or clone the primary install.

If the latest kernel did not allow you to test to the issue (ex. you couldn't
boot into the OS) please make a comment in your report about this, and continue
to test the next most recent kernel version until you can test to the issue.
Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel version
specifically you tested. If this issue is fixed in the mainline kernel, please
add the following tags by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil
icon, next to the word Tags, located at the bottom of the report description:
kernel-fixed-upstream
kernel-fixed-upstream-X.Y-rcZ

Where X, and Y are the first two numbers of the kernel version, and Z is
the release candidate number if it exists.

If the mainline kernel does not fix the issue, please add the following tags:
kernel-bug-exists-upstream
kernel-bug-exists-upstream-X.Y-rcZ

Please note, an error to install the kernel does not fit the criteria of
kernel-bug-exists-upstream.

Once testing of the latest upstream kernel is complete, please mark this
report's Status as Confirmed. Please let us know your results.

Thank you for your understanding.

[Bug 1528126] Re: copying files to/from USB drive gets paused for each file transfer in Ubuntu 15.10

2016-01-02 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
enstine, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better.

At your earliest convenience, could you please test the latest upstream
kernel available from the very top line at the top of the page from
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/?C=N;O=D (the release
names are irrelevant for testing, and please do not test the daily

[Bug 1528005] Re: rtl8821ae has no connectivity in 5GHz networks

2016-01-02 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Mikaela Suomalainen, thank you for reporting this and helping make
Ubuntu better.

As per https://www.asus.com/us/Notebooks/X550JX/HelpDesk_Download/ an
update to your computer's buggy and outdated BIOS is available (209). If
you update to this following
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate does it change anything?

For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette
.

Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so
posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful. As well, you don't
have to create a new bug report.

Once the BIOS is updated, if the problem is still reproducible:
1) Please provide the output of the following terminal command (not perform an
apport-collect):
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date
2) Please make a comment specifically advising on if there was an improvement
or not.
3) Please mark this report Status Confirmed. If it's not reproducible, please
mark this as Invalid.

Thank you for your understanding.

[Bug 1526683] Re: 10ec:8821 rtl8821ae loses connection occasionally on 2.4 GHz network requiring hardware button to be toggled twice for connection to be re-established

2016-01-02 Thread Mikaela Suomalainen
Sorry for long response time, I have been having productivity issues.

Looking at the router config it gives options "Auto", "N-only" and
"legacy" and I assume "legacy" means "g" and I am going to try it now.

Even if it worked without issues in g, which I doubt, but it will be
seen, it's not an option to use it for prolonged period of time.

[Bug 1527914] Re: Huawei E3372 is not detected and cannot be used

2016-01-02 Thread Mikaela Suomalainen
I haven't been able to test this and I am not sure when I can (if I
can), but meanwhile I wold like to ask why do you think this is a kernel
regression as I never had that netstick with precise, so it cannot be a
regression to me.

Based on this I am setting the status back to Confirmed as I have
nothing to do with precise.

[Bug 1528140] Re: USB hub stops working after upgrade

2016-01-02 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
AlainB, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better.

At your earliest convenience, could you please test the latest upstream
kernel available from the very top line at the top of the page from
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/?C=N;O=D (the release
names are irrelevant for testing, and please do not test the daily

[Bug 1528005] Re: rtl8821ae has no connectivity in 5GHz networks

There is no new version of BIOS as

1. WInFlash which is tool to update BIOS on ASUS laptops says that it is unable
to find a new BIOS version.
2. WinFlash tells me that BIOSes which I try to flash are older than the
currently flashed version and refuses to do anything.

However as the last time when I tried was before I reported this issue,
I will try again and report back.

[Bug 1530570] [NEW] "Set as Background" feature fails to work in Xfce4

2016-01-02 Thread G4JC
Public bug reported:

When using gthumb on an Xfce4 desktop environment and selecting "Set as
Background, gthumb claims it has set the wallpaper, but no changes are
made.

One way to set the xfce4 wallpaper is:
xfconf-query -c xfce4-desktop -p /backdrop/screen0/monitor0/image-path -s

(Single display, not multiple monitors)

Perhaps this command can be added to the set wallpaper command on gthumb
so that it will work in the Xfce4 (Xubuntu, etc) desktop environment.

[Bug 1178622] Re: 'maniuplating' typo

2016-01-02 Thread Luigi Toscano
I stumbled into the typo and I noticed that it has recently fixed into master
branch of modemmanager:
http://cgit.freedesktop.org/ModemManager/ModemManager/commit/?id=d5bc19f7db1bbbe8c54c2dc7d31bbc7a68c28d66

The fix was not backported into 1.4.x stable series so far, so this bug
will be really fixed when the next major series of modemmanager will be
released (or it can be closed marking it as solved upstream, I don't
know the policies here).
