[Bug 1549653] [NEW] Disks utility doesn't remove previous record in /etc/fstab
Public bug reported: How to reproduce: 1. delete an NTFS partition on secondary disk (rewrite with zeroes). 2. put there EXT4 partition instead. 3. reboot computer => ubuntu doesn't boot, allows only single-user mode. By checking system log, I found out system was trying to mount the old NTFS partition and hanged on it, even though that is not at all a necessary partition. Then I checked /etc/fstab and found out the GUI tool did NOT remove the original record, when it deleted the partition on the drive. By commenting it out I was able to get into the GUI again. [Bug 1549644] [NEW] libc6-udeb resolver segfaults when resolving local addresses with no domain
Public bug reported: I do not know whether this bug belongs to debian-installer, anna or libc6-udeb, so I will follow Launchpad's suggestion. I install machines using preseeding, with a local apt-cacher-ng proxy called "apt-cache". In this case I am installing Ubuntu 14.04 . I install both on i386 and amd64 architectures, and am getting the same results. When installing I get the message that the installer failed to download a file from the mirror, during the bootstrap installer download. It always fails at the same point: when downloading libcryptsetup4-udeb, immediately after downloading libc6-udeb_2.19-0ubuntu6.7_amd64.udeb. Switching to one of the consoles, I find that name resolutions are failing for addresses on my local network when I do not specify a fully- qualified domain name, but succeeding for addresses where the domain is specified. Here is an example: ~ # ping apt-cache Segmentation fault ~ # ping apt-cache.theworkingcentre.org PING apt-cache.theworkingcentre.org (10.11.12.26): 56 data bytes In syslog I see the following suspicious entries: Feb 25 05:46:45 anna[3577]: DEBUG: retrieving jfsutils-udeb 1.1.15-2.1 Feb 25 05:46:45 anna[3577]: 2016-02-25 05:46:45 URL:http://apt-cache:3142/ca.archi ve.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/main/j/jfsutils/jfsutils-udeb_1.1.15-2.1_amd64.udeb [162 150/162150] -> "/var/cache/anna/jfsutils-udeb_1.1.15-2.1_amd64.udeb" [1] Feb 25 05:46:45 anna[3577]: DEBUG: retrieving libbsd0-udeb 0.6.0-2ubuntu1 Feb 25 05:46:45 anna[3577]: 2016-02-25 05:46:45 URL:http://apt-cache:3142/ca.archi ve.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/main/libb/libbsd/libbsd0-udeb_0.6.0-2ubuntu1_amd64.udeb [24916/24916] -> "/var/cache/anna/libbsd0-udeb_0.6.0-2ubuntu1_amd64.udeb" [1] Feb 25 05:46:45 anna[3577]: DEBUG: retrieving libc6-udeb 2.19-0ubuntu6.7 Feb 25 05:46:46 anna[3577]: 2016-02-25 05:46:46 URL:http://apt-cache:3142/ca.archi ve.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/main/e/eglibc/libc6-udeb_2.19-0ubuntu6.7_amd64.udeb [111 8088/1118088] -> "/var/cache/anna/libc6-udeb_2.19-0ubuntu6.7_amd64.udeb" [1] Feb 25 05:46:47 anna[3577]: DEBUG: retrieving libcryptsetup4-udeb 2:1.6.1-1ubuntu1 Feb 25 05:46:47 anna[3577]: Segmentation fault Feb 25 05:46:47 kernel: [ 45.546051] wget[4856]: segfault at 14 ip 7fe0079d5 d66 sp 7fffb3a959a0 error 6 in libresolv-2.19.so[7fe0079ca000+17000] Feb 25 05:46:47 anna[3577]: Segmentation fault The "libresolv-2.19.so" makes me think that this problem might have something to do with the security update to glibc, but I have no proof of this. I do know that the installers worked before. If I change my preseed entries for the local cache to fully-qualified domain names then the installer works. If I specify an IP address for the apt-cacher-ng machine then the installer works. This happens consistently for me, on several different pieces of hardware. I will attach my syslog and dmesg output. If there are other files I should include, or there is a more effective way to run apport or ubuntu-bug or something this early in the install process, let me know. ** Affects: anna (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Attachment added: "/var/log/syslog from affected system" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1549644/+attachment/4580607/+files/syslog -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1549644 Title: libc6-udeb resolver segfaults when resolving local addresses with no domain To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/anna/+bug/1549644/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 817186] Re: Entering a ridiculously long login/password crashes lightdm
Sometimes my keyboard starts sending the number '5', as if someone is holding down the key. It stops if I touch another key. If this happens while I'm away and the screen is locked, then I can't delete the password entry field or press enter to get an invalid password and start over. I can get a prompt via alt+ctrl+1 and sometimes it's enough to kill lightdm, and other times I must hold the power button down until the machine powers down, and make a cold boot. [Bug 1359689] Re: cryptsetup password prompt not shown
I'm seeing this with the latest Ubuntu GNOME Xenial images. After completing a full disk encryption install the newly installed OS just boots to a blank, black screen. [Bug 1549425] Re: ERROR: testbed failure: testbed auxverb failed with exit code 255
The auxverb is "ssh" in this case, and it exiting with 255 means that the ssh connection was interrupted. Could indeed be a flaky cable, or sshd getting killed. It would help if you can add the --debug option to adt-run, then you see the commands that are being sent. [Bug 1547864] Re: libinput doesn't handle EV_KEY event with a value of 255 (BUTTON_CANCLED), to support Android home buttons
Another handy trick used in GUI toolkits is to introduce a "clicked" event created by the toolkit. So simple apps don't need to track button states, only listen for the 'clicked' event and ignore all other events. So a button might receive any of these sequences of events: press -> appearance changes to depressed press, release, clicked -> appearance resets and action triggered press, cancelled -> appearance resets release -> nothing happens but typically an app only really needs to act on 'clicked'. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1547864 Title: libinput doesn't handle EV_KEY event with a value of 255 (BUTTON_CANCLED), to support Android home buttons To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/mir/+bug/1547864/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1547864] Re: libinput doesn't handle EV_KEY event with a value of 255 (BUTTON_CANCLED), to support Android home buttons
Analogously in the case of GUI toolkits, one would usually act on a button release, but only if it was preceded by a button press. The app however could encounter a press without a release (mouse dragged off the button) or a release without a press (mouse dragged onto the button). In the former case the button is informed that the press has been cancelled (by the pointer leaving) before it was released. And in the latter case the button simply ignores a 'release' that had no press before it. So there's another precedent for button cancellation of sorts...

[Bug 1549616] [NEW] My Music scope attempts todownload artist biography, but biography is always empty.
Public bug reported: The My Music scope tries to download artist biography from dash.ubuntu.com when displaying the artist overview page. It in turn tries to retrieve the biography via the 7digital API. However, the 7digital API always returns an empty string because they don't have a license to provide the biographies shown in their own web store: https://groups.google.com/d/msg/7digital-api/mtMWAOAiIB0/s6933tEZ0BYJ While dash.ubuntu.com could be modified to retrieve biographies elsewhere, at the moment the scope is just wasting time and bandwidth by asking for the data. So in the short term we are better off disabling the biography download code. ** Affects: unity-scope-mediascanner (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1549616 Title: My Music scope attempts todownload artist biography, but biography is always empty. [Bug 1549603] [NEW] Please document how users can return usb drive to a storage drive
Public bug reported: While sdc now works well it creates partitioning/formatting that the default installed Disks app cannot deal with. This will make it hard for users to return the usb drive to use as a storage device after using to install *buntu. Test case: Create a boot/install drive with sdc. Open Disks app & try to format the drive to a usable storage format or try to delete either of the 2 partitions sdc created. What happens : operations fail, see attached screens. One method that works requires users to install gparted, dismiss the error popups (disconcerting), then figure out they need to create a fresh partition table.
