While it is good to have the builders fixed, there is one worrying aspect to this: this may happen to anything using grep and modifies the output in an unexpected way while still returning a zero return code. For example: echo -e "Hello\nWörld" | LANG=C grep -v xxx; echo $? will no longer return both input lines (note the German umlaut ö) but stop at the second line (even if there were more), print a "binary ... matches" and return with 0. So having the grep passing its output to another pipe, there is no way to tell it is going wrong. Hi Chris, The BIOS you're referring to is a beta BIOS. I have installed it in the past but had a memory compatibility issue with it so I reverted back. Based on the change log of the beta BIOS, it doesn't fix any bugs (the only change is "Update CPU AGESA Code"). Also, in this particular scenario, I think the BIOS is probably irrelevant since the keyboard works fine in Ubuntu 15.10, so I don't see a reason why it shouldn't continue to work after upgrading to 16.04. Based on the above reasons, I am switching the status back to Confirmed. I can install the beta BIOS if you insist, but it will likely be a useless exercise on my part. If testing on your main install would be inconvenient, one may: 1) Install Ubuntu to a different partition and then test this there. 2) Backup, or clone the primary install. I've also been able to consistently reproduce this on a Ganeti cluster at work, using QEMU 2.1.3 and kernels 3.16 and 4.0 in the guests. The issue goes away if I disable the steal time MSR using `-cpu qemu64,-kvm_steal_time`. So, it looks to me as if the steal time MSR is not set/copied properly during live migration, although AFAICT this should be the case after 917367aa968fd4fef29d340e0c7ec8c608dffaab. I cannot download anything until 4.00 am when the myanmar rates are 1 ks versus 6ks per mb. I am excited to something useful for the ubuntu community. Can you tell me what the clicking noise is? On a 9 gb parition usb. The 4.4.4 kernel was actually only installed on lubuntu. However, my machine came with only 32 gb. And windows eats most of it (with almost nothing installed). I have lubuntu installed on a removeable SD which is permanently there. (This replaced my ubuntu) I do have another removable sd, but i am afraid to remove the one I have. Is it possible to up steams a live usb last time it failed and there was not enough space. I only have 2gb ram so I cannot do a big live usb. I tried installing Ubuntu on a usb a few noghts ago and it did not work and I needed to run boot-repair to fix things back. I had a quick look at this last night. Something strange has happened where the plymouth theme was moved from /usr/lib to /usr/share, and our bzr was out of sync and we tried to fix that. It appears that the latest upload may be missing some files. The problem has been fixed with 4.4.0-11-generic kernel. The current reason for high shutdown times was CPUS adding 60s and that seems unrelated to this issue. So far I am unable to reproduce this bug. Are you all able to reproduce this bug in 16.04? This should be able to be tested when booted into a live 16.04 environment. Public bug reported: Since being standardised XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP supports specifying multiple Desktop Names seperated by a colon, however many of the patches in Ubuntu pre-date this change so don't correctly support the current format in some cases. These days XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP will look something like Unity GNOME (gnome-shell) GNOME-Classic:GNOME (gnome-shell classic mode) GNOME-Flashback:Unity (Flashback sesison, although upstream and debian use GNOME-Flashack:GNOME for this) Many of the patches only check for == "Unity" or == "GNOME", so misbehave for the latter cases in the list above. I suspect this will be more widespread than just nautilus, but fixing that would be a good start.
