[Bug 1557904] [NEW] 3 bugs from metacity 3.18.2 (for Ubuntu 16.04 xenial)
Public bug reported: 1. Bug: Many Gtk3 Softwares don't show their border of window, based on Ubuntu Light-theme. (See attachment Bug1) sudo apt-get install gnome-session-flashback gnome-system-monitor gedit light-theme [Logout and login to Gnome Flashback Session (Metacity)] Open nautilus window browser, Open gnome-system-monitor, then open "Preference" item from menu. Open gedit, then open "Preference" item from menu. .. Non of these window have border, which is extremely unfit under metacity compositing mode (metacity -c --replace). Note: If I install an old version - metacity 3.14 (from Ubuntu 15.04 repository), it does have this problem. So it's metacity 3.18 that cause those border miss. 2. Bug: metacity are supposed to quit if a new window-manager replace it. Run: metacity -c --replace Then run: metacity -c --replace The previous metacity process doesn't quit, which both metacity 3.14 (from ubuntu vivid) and marco (from ubuntu xenial) doesn't happen. 3. Bug: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/metacity/+bug/1538111 This bug still not fixed. There is a small possiblity that closing a certain window will make all of other windows disappear, nothing would do anymore expect killing metacity and run metacity again. Then disappearred windows display again! I only found out that if I frequently plugin and plugout external screen monitor, the possiblity of getting stuck into this bug becomes larger, and "close a window" operation is key that might cause this bug. [Bug 1557894] [NEW] Strange usb device format and failure to boot on UEFI system
Public bug reported: I want to run 16.04 on a new ASUS T300 Chi transformer notebook, which is pre-installed with windows 10. I started by making a DVD iso from the beta distribution, then booted and installed it on a spare partition of my old Dell 1558 Studio laptop. The system runs fine in 64-bit mode, but the BIOS is non-EFI. I then applied the latest updates to the Dell HDD 16.04 system before running usb-creator. I've done this several times, always starting by DD-ing zeros over the first 200MB of the target 8mb usb stick. The creator reports successful completion, but gparted doesn't like the contents of the usb stick after the image has been created. The partition table has been changed from type=msdos to type=mac, and the sector size from 512 to 2048. The capacity changed from 7.7GB to 57GB! There are two partitions: sdb1 is called "Ubuntu Gnome 16.04 LTS, with an "unknown" file system type and a size of ONLY 4KB; 1.22GB unallocated; sdb2 is fat16 and its 2.31 MB extent is almost full. No flags are set on either partition. Whenever I interact with gparted it throws a pop-up that says "The driver descriptor says the physical blocksize is 2048, but linux says it is 512 - cancel or ignore". I am amazed to report this image boots successfully on my Dell with its "legacy" BIOS. The ubuntu live/install options page displays and it eventually boots the live system, which superficially seems to run OK. The ASUS uses American Megatrends UEFI BIOS, which I have updated to the latest version 207. I have enabled the CSM (Compatibility Support Module - legacy BIOS) and disabled both fast start and secure boot. It boots the usb stick in non-EFI mode as desired (proved by not getting the grub2 efi menu). The "man=keyboard" splash panel appears, then it drops to a tty login briefly before the new ubuntu "circling logo" appears. After several minutes, it drops back to a tty screen with the following: (initramfs) Unable to find a medium containing a live system. I also have a usb stick with knoppix 7.0 which successfully boots in 64-bit non-efi mode on both the Dell and the Asus, so I am reluctant to blame the Asus legacy bios at this stage. Why is gparted reporting such a strange format after creating the usb image? (In reply to Luke from comment #107) > I am now uninterested and > have stopped using most GNOME telecommunication products completely due to > lack of documentation and security. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ 1) GNOME is a destkop has nothing to do with communication, you can install any application under gnome 2) GNOME is open-source software not a product >From dictionary product - "an article or substance that is manufactured or refined for sale" 3) There is plenty of documentation 4) Major part of open-source software is a contribution developed by people in their spare time 5) I believe it's of very minor importance what you use or not, or do in your life for the people signed up for this bug issue Maybe no one wanted to spend time on this feature for a good reason. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/296867 Title: empathy needs to support OTR encryption To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/empathy/+bug/296867/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1549603] Re: Please clearly document how users can return usb drive to a storage drive or better yet provide a means to do so
@ Doug McMahon: Can you specify in detail what you want, please! Maybe you can give an example. -o- On the other hand, there is a lot of instructions that promote dd if=distro.iso of=/dev/sdx at the web pages of several major linux distros. And I seldom see any warning or hint how to restore the pendrive to a data storage drive with an MSDOS partition table and FAT32 file system. I don't say it is good, and you certainly have a point, but I think many people, maybe particularly people who read bug reports, think it is trivial to use gparted or some other tool. [Bug 1557866] [NEW] connecting to samba share doesn't show all items
Public bug reported: When connecting to certain Shares from a Windows computer (Windows 10, but happened also from when it was Windows 7). I get this error: Sorry, could not display all the contents of “google drive on wrs-scanner-pc”: Invalid argument But when accessing other shares on this folder I can access it. Other Windows computers on the network can access it fine no problem. Sometimes I can see an item or two from the Google Drive share, other times 0 items, and other times that error. Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode. To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1557836/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package. [Bug 1556471] Re: Connecting an Osprey 2 Mini (USB cellular wireless router) sometimes causes an endless reset loop or a kernel panic
OK, testing on the most recent mainstream kernel, 4.5.0, is now complete. The Ubuntu and kernel version: $ lsb_release -a No LSB modules are available. Distributor ID: Ubuntu Description:Ubuntu 15.10 Release:15.10 Codename: wily $ uname -a Linux tundra 4.5.0-040500-generic #201603140130 SMP Mon Mar 14 05:32:22 UTC 2016 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux The bug is partially fixed, and partially present: - The reset loops still occur intermittently when the device is connected. - However, unplugging the device during a reset loop no longer causes a kernel panic or hang. (There isn't any observable "action that happens instead"; the device stops resetting but that isn't surprising, given that it's no longer physically connected to the computer.) I have used both fixed-upstream and exists-upstream tags because there is still a bug with recognising the device upstream, but the worst symptom (the panic) appears to have been fixed, leaving only a more minor symptom. (This is the same behaviour that I observed when running Ubuntu Vivid.) If this is incorrect, feel free to correct the tags. The syslog from this boot, on which I plugged and unplugged the device repeatedly, is attached. ** Attachment added: "syslog for repeated connection and disconnection on a mainstream kernel" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1556471/+attachment/4600707/+files/syslog ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => Confirmed ** Tags added: kernel-fixed-upstream kernel-fixed-upstream-3.5 ** Tags added: kernel-bug-exists-upstream kernel-bug-exists-upstream-3.5 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1556471 Title: Connecting an Osprey 2 Mini (USB cellular wireless router) sometimes causes an endless reset loop or a kernel panic To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1556471/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1557852] [NEW] [needs-packaging] juju-mongodb3.2 in xenial, wily, and trusty
Public bug reported: # juju-mongodb3.2 The Juju team wants juju-mongodb3.2 packaged in xenial. lp:~sinzui/ubuntu/xenial/juju-mongodb3.2/xenial-mongodb-3.2 This package is an fork and upgrade of the juju-mongodb2.6 package that will be used in upgrades. There is a lot of change in this package because Upstream changed a lot. the package required new rules and deps. Many patches were needed to support wily/xenial tools chains and arm64 and ppc64el archs. Juju2 prefers juju-mongodb3.2 as the db for its controllers. This db uses a different storage engine named wiredtiger. it requires JS to operate. There are many packages in src/third_party/. Most of them are ignored because we choose to use the ubuntu system packages. Wiretiger appears in third_party. 10gen/MongoDB bought the product and made it the default storage engine. We must use this version. Mongo builds with the embedded mozjs, there is no system option. ## juju-mongodb2.6-to-juju-mongodb3.2.diff This is a diff of the debian dir from juju-mongodb2.6 to juju-mongodb3.2, excluding patches. The principal changes are: 1. Rename juju-mongodb2.6 => juju-mongodb3.2. 2. Added new build deps. I tried to use system packages when possible. - trusty's libboost is too old so d/rules falls back to the embedded package for trusty only. - server-js is off; the server does not accept js queries, but the wiredtiger storage engine is compiled with JS, the server uses JS to talk to talk internally to the storage engine. The --js-engine=none option removes all js and only comppiles a server with the old storage engine. 3. The test infastructure also changed alot. We run only part of the test suite because the full suite will test JS communication from client to server, and we do not support that scenario. ## juju-mongodb3.2-patches.diff There are three general kinds of change to patches. 1. The patch was upstreamed, or obsoleted by the removal of files to patch: -00git_boost_1.56.patch -0006-Fix-ARM-alignment-problems.patch -0007-Use-TIME_UTC_-macro.patch -0009-ignore-unused-local-typedefs.patch -# Added for arm64 and ppc64el enablement -0001-Add-option-to-disable-javascript.patch -0004-Support-ppc64el-builds.patch -0099-Pagesize-hacks.patch -fix-yaml-detection.patch -no-unused-function.patch 2. Patches found upstream in the devel release 3.3 +scons-detect-ppc64.patch +support-ppc64el-mozjs.patch +use-4kb-sector-size-for-direct-io.patch +fix-debug-non-jit-builds-of-spidermonkey.patch +processinfo_test-fails-on-ppc64.patch +dont-assume-char-is-unsigned-in-logging.patch +use-signed-char-explicitly.patch +warn-user-if-locked-memory-limit-is-too-low.patch 3. Patches created by me to address wily/xenial build and test issues +offset-outside-of-bounds.patch These tests fail to build on wily and xenial. They are fine on trusty +fix-ppc64-preprocessor-blocks.patch A synax error only seen when attempting to build wiredtiger on ppc64el. +skip-high-mem-test.patch The warn-user-if-locked-memory-limit-is-too-low patch does not fix the test, it just suggests the user get more memory and fails. the test will not pass on the builders of on the ppc64el quests I have. +arm64-immediate-delete-should-wait-cursor.patch I disabled the test because it fails on arm64. ** Affects: juju-mongodb (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: needs-packaging ** Attachment added: "juju-mongodb2.6-to-juju-mongodb3.2.diff" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1557852/+attachment/4600706/+files/juju-mongodb2.6-to-juju-mongodb3.2.diff -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1557852 Title: [needs-packaging] juju-mongodb3.2 in xenial, wily, and trusty To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/juju-mongodb/+bug/1557852/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1551379] Re: Sync znc 1.6.3-1 (universe) from Debian unstable (main)
.deb files were installed via dpkg -i, dependencies via `apt-get install -f`, which finished configuration of some znc packages which were missing dependencies. This text file is all the relevant logs from the installation that I was able to pull (network disconnect to the testing system resulted in a failure to obtain the `dpkg -i` log data. However, the packages did install, and the run log (to be attached next) indicates successful installation. ** Attachment added: "Installation logs" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/znc/+bug/1551379/+attachment/4600692/+files/znc-1.6.3-xenial-apt.log -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1551379 Title: [FFe Needed] Sync znc 1.6.3-1 (universe) from Debian unstable (main) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/znc/+bug/1551379/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1557836] [NEW] gnutls.pc contains unrecognized command line option -R
Public bug reported: $ pkg-config --libs --static gnutls -L/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu -lgnutls -lz -R/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu -lp11-kit -lgmp -lhogweed -lgmp -lnettle -ltasn1 -lp11-kit -lz $ grep -e -R /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/pkgconfig/*.pc /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/pkgconfig/gnutls.pc:Libs.private: -L/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu -lz -R/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu -lp11-kit -lgmp That -R looks innocent, but it's not. Libs.private is passed to gcc, not to ld, so it needs to use -Wl,-rpath... what am I saying, it shouldn't be passing an rpath at all, should it? Anyway, the -R has to go, it causes build failure for any app that uses pkg-config --static --libs gnutls This bug was not present in ubuntu 12.04, but is present in both ubuntu 14.04 and ubuntu 15.10. The workaround for affected developers is to ham-fistedly remove the -R/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu from /usr/lib/x86_64-linux- gnu/pkgconfig/gnutls.pc ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1557836 Title: gnutls.pc contains unrecognized command line option -R To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1557836/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
