[Bug 1576500] Re: Plasma fails to load: "all shell packages missing"

2016-04-29 Thread Scarlett Clark
I need to know a few things:

What language? There were some missing translations that caused a series of
issues like this one.
Video card? Nvidia seems to be also causing similiar issues.

That dmesg log shows coredumps and according to it plasma is indeed
installed or it would not be core dumping? Pretty sure a new bug needs
to be filed there, with perhaps gdb plasmashell logs attached.

Thanks

[Bug 1574667] Re: Mouse pointer occasionally jumps to the bottom-left corner

2016-04-29 Thread Michael Quinlivan
Exact same problem occurs for me, with the touchpad, usually when
clicking something the pointer shoots to the bottom left corner of the
screen. Not every time but intermittently. This is a bug that has
existed since 14.04, and I managed to fix it back then, but for the life
of me I can't remember how I did it. I think I had to make some
adjustments to the synaptic driver config, perhaps even had to recompile
something... I've searched to find the solution that I used last time
but can't seem to find it now!

[Bug 1575467] Re: Ubuntu 16.04 consistently freezes up / hangs

2016-04-29 Thread Andrew
i want to say that the updated bios may have helped. Hard to say at this
point. If it did it may not be as severe as it was, but perhaps did not
eliminate the problem entirely. Even having a buggy bios i find it hard
to believe that i would not have had problems in Ubuntu 14.04 but did
after upgrading. Perhaps there is a bug that is made worse by a buggy
BIOS. Just my thoughts. I will try to keep monitoring the situation and
try to add anything new if i notice anything.

You can check that debian has the same path for the libvirt libraries across

[Bug 1468027] Re: change default CJK fonts to Noto CJK

2016-04-29 Thread Cheng-Chia Tseng
Using subset OTFs is suggested for OS exept MacOS and Windows by the
README file from Source Han Sans (same as Noto Sans CJK).

However, as I stated previously, I believe using Super OTC is a way to
find where the apps in Linux world which has some problems dealing with
this "super font," and that helps shape a better Linux world in the
future. People find the problem, report the problem, and the problem be
fixed one day.

Both ways are fine though. The system still has some places to be
improved to support Super OTC better while Subset OTFs require more
space and more packages. To be the first to find the problems and work
with upstreams to fix them? Or just do as the official recommendation to
get the better result and serve users better first?

Any thoughts on this?

[Bug 1575467] Re: Ubuntu 16.04 consistently freezes up / hangs

2016-04-29 Thread Andrew
Nevermind, it seems that i jumped the gun. It happened again. If i had
to guess i'd say that the freezes are more likely to occur when the
computer has been on for awhile and is in moderate use. Others have
hinted at processor heat problems, often when one freeze occurs and the
computer is immediately rebooted the freezes occur with more frequency
(perhaps because the processor is already hot?).

[Bug 1576914] Re: upstart, libnih ftbfs on s390x with linux 4.4.0-21.37

2016-04-29 Thread Steve Langasek
Build
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/upstart/1.13.2-0ubuntu23/+build/9668581
has been cancelled, and the failure shown in the log there is:

not ok 13 - ensure remainder of log written when file deleted with uid 0
wrong value for output, got unexpected (nil)
at tests/test_log.c:868 (test_log_new).
/bin/bash: line 5: 40392 Aborted ${dir}$tst
FAIL: test_log

This was not the same failure that I saw, but possibly related.

After adjusting settings in the chroot, libnih still fails its testsuite
with wholly uninteresting 'string' problems related to terminal sizes
that are almost certainly unrelated and specific to the test
environment.

And upstart now fails locally with a variety of apparently flaky tests.
E.g.:

test: Failed to spawn test main process: unable to execute: No such file or
directory
ok 67 - with no such file, no shell and console log
ok 68 - with debug enabled
ok 69 - ensure sane fds with no console
ok 70 - ensure sane fds with console log
not ok 71 - ensure multi process output logged
wrong value for stat (filename, ), expected 0 got -1
at tests/test_job_process.c:4803 (test_spawn).
/bin/bash: line 5: 51948 Aborted (core dumped) ${dir}$tst
FAIL: test_job_process

or, in another run:

not ok 147 - ensure re-exec does not disrupt umask
wrong value for ok, expected 1 got 0
at tests/test_initctl.c:11385 (test_reexec).
/bin/bash: line 5: 31440 Aborted (core dumped) ${dir}$tst
FAIL: test_initctl

or:

not ok 136 - with child exit notification before child setup success
notification
wrong value for timed_waitpid (pid, 5), expected 63974 got 0
at tests/test_job_process.c:8957 (test_handler).
/bin/bash: line 5: 63192 Aborted (core dumped) ${dir}$tst
FAIL: test_job_process

There's repetition in the failing tests; a completely clean run is
elusive.

And I've just noticed the last good build of upstart on s390x,
,
was more than a month after the package was uploaded. So the successful
build is the result of a retry of a failed build, which means there's
nothing to say that a kernel change between 4.4.0-18 and 4.4.0-21 has
anything to do with this.

[Bug 1572793] Re: Ubiquity no longer prompts to join available WiFi networks

2016-04-29 Thread Adam Conrad
Hello Martin, or anyone else affected,

Accepted ubiquity into xenial-proposed. The package will build now and
be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/2.21.63.1
in a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to
enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this update
out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, and change the tag
from verification-needed to verification-done. If it does not fix the
bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to
verification-failed. In either case, details of your testing will help
us make a better decision.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance!

[Bug 1576914] Re: upstart, libnih ftbfs on s390x with linux 4.4.0-21.37

2016-04-29 Thread Steve Langasek
Notwithstanding the above, I've just been surprised to find that
test_watch passes on the devac02 host system, where it fails under a
yakkety schroot. It turns out the libnih test suite is ignoring the
value of TMPDIR, and always writing to /tmp, and /tmp is an overlayfs
mount - which means a lost inotify event for a deleted parent directory
is more or less expected behavior.

Until we have a full build log from launchpad, it's unknown whether the
failure in launchpad is related or not.

[Bug 1575467] Re: Ubuntu 16.04 consistently freezes up / hangs

2016-04-29 Thread Andrew
Thanks Christopher,

I just upgraded my BIOS from version A00 to A05. So far everything seems
to work great. I never knew a BIOS bug could affect an operating system.
But these new EFI BIOSs are very different from the old BIOSs i grew up
with so i'm not really sure how they work. Apparently more integration
(which in this case was not a good thing).

But anyway, so far it seems i can use my browser with multiple tabs and
multiple videos running no problem. No freezes. As of this time i will
go ahead and mark this bug as invalid as you requested. I assume if i
have any more problems i can come back and change the status later.

Again thanks for the tip to update my BIOS.
-Andrew

Just to be sure, I tried downgrading libc6 in the build environment from
2.23-0ubuntu3 to 2.23-0ubuntu2. The problem is still reproducible.

And the build filesystem is ext4, which should be fairly inotify-safe.

[Bug 1468027] Re: change default CJK fonts to Noto CJK

2016-04-29 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
We have a solution to the Chrome/Chromium and "Thin" issue in sight at
bug #157. A modified version of fonts-noto-cjk is available in this
PPA:

https://launchpad.net/~gunnarhj/+archive/ubuntu/fonts-noto-cjk

It would be great if a few Chinese and Japanese users could install
fonts-noto-cjk (and possibly fonts-noto-cjk-extras) from the PPA and let
us know the result. Please report your observations on the other bug.

2016-04-29 Thread Steve Langasek
Public bug reported:

The latest uploads of upstart are failing to build on s390x, with lost
fds causing the testsuite to fail to return (which should eventually
lead to a timeout, but hasn't as of this writing):

  https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/upstart/1.13.2-0ubuntu22/+build/9658082
  https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/upstart/1.13.2-0ubuntu23/+build/9668581

upstart also fails to build on devac02, with the following test
failures:

not ok 12 - ensure log written when directory created accessible with uid 0
wrong value for output, got unexpected (nil)
at tests/test_log.c:827 (test_log_new).
/bin/bash: line 5: 31104 Aborted (core dumped) ${dir}$tst
FAIL: test_log

[...]
not ok 19 - with deletion of top-level directory
wrong value for source->watch, expected (nil) got 0x2aa43d27cb0
at tests/test_conf.c:1006 (test_source_reload_job_dir).
Aborted (core dumped)
FAIL: test_conf_preload.sh

The second of these failures definitely looks like a lost inotify event.

So I looked at libnih, and libnih's testsuite hangs indefinitely on devac02,
after:
PASS: test_file 78 - with simple directory loop

This is the last test in test_file; the next test that it hangs on is
test_watch. Running this test directly shows that it hangs after:
  ok 17 - nih_watch_reader

strace shows the test_watch waiting indefinitely on a select, waiting to
read the inotify fd.

All of this is on systems running linux 4.4.0-21.

The upstart testsuite was passing as recently as 4.4.0-18.

https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/upstart/1.13.2-0ubuntu21/+build/9278268

I don't know what in the kernel could have changed to break this, but
that seems the most likely explanation. There was also a new glibc
version since the last successful upstart build, 2.23-0ubuntu3, which
includes an s390x-specific change, but that seems quite unlikely to
impact inotify.

[Bug 1576780] Re: Needs to implement the full DEP-11 icon spec for compatibility with 3rd-party repos

2016-04-29 Thread Matthias Klumpp
Updated the attachment, there was an issue in the previous one (no
prefix set for icons).

** Patch removed: "asglib_yamlspec-lp1576780.debdiff"

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/appstream-glib/+bug/1576780/+attachment/4651842/+files/asglib_yamlspec-lp1576780_2.debdiff

** Description changed:

  [Impact]

- * The AppStream YAML spec describes a way to include width/height properties
in cached-icon metadata, which isn't forward-compatible to the old spec.
- * asglib doesn't implement the full spec in the release present in Xenial,
so it ignores cached icons with size info, as well as it doesn't support
several features present in the spec, e.g. the remote icon type.
- * This leads to AppStream components from 3rd-party repos/PPAs not showing
up in GNOME Software, since asglib is unable to find icons if they use a more
recent version of the spec.
- * The attched patch fixes this.

[Bug 1568123] Re: error messages about /dev/acpi_thermal_rel and /var/run/thermald/thermal-conf.xml

2016-04-29 Thread heynnema
The default thermal-conf.xml file doesn't allow thermald to manage the
temperature on my laptop. So I wrote my own thermal-conf.xml file, shown
above in #10. I'm concerned that there's too much unnecessary stuff in
there, or that I might have added cooling devices incorrectly. However,
it does work. The temp on my laptop now stays between 115F to 141F.

Could you please take a look at it, and tell me what you think?

Cheers, Al
