[Bug 1577284] [NEW] Black screen after wake

I got this issue once a day or so when I close the lid of my laptop to
suspend, and when I try to wake it up I get a blank screen where often
the only thing that shows up is the mouse cursor. I can't use the mouse
nor keyboard, and I can't access virtual consoles (ctrl+alt+f1). I'm
forced to shutdown the machine by pressing and holding the machine's
power button.

I didnt see that you are using Unity. u-s-d also launches syndaemon with
the "-t" option, which means motion won't be disabled,  just clicking
and scrolling. Perhaps the "Synaptics Off" patch would help, atleast on
supported hardware.

I am not sure that Unity7 has been ported to use libinput, I suspect not
and clearly that would not be an option for LTS.

However at least on my laptop it is still falling back to using
syndaemon. That is launched with "-t" option and has been since 2012.

mouse: Do not disable touchpad buttons

Touchpad buttons are disabled also if touchpad is disabled using
"Device Enabled" property. Unfortunately some touchpads share those
buttons with trackpoint, which is consequently unusable. Disable
touchpad using "Synaptics Off" property instead to avoid disabling
the buttons.

Remove also some redundant calls to enable/disable touchpad and
make sure syndaemon isn't running if the touchpads are disabled.

Same problem for me, not with akonadi, simply by installing mysql.
mysqld uses approximately 130Mb at startup and goes up to 806 Mb adter
10 minutes, without any server process running.

Any workaround yet ?

I just want to confirm this issue, exactly the same 5a54a wrote. This is 
confirmed on ubuntu-mate 16.04 64bit.
Interesting enough, Kubuntu 16.05 64bit does not have this issue. There is some 
problem at times importing profiles in Kubuntu, but trying again a second time 
works well.

I also noticed a few more issues, confirmed on multiple OpenVPN profiles:
 
TCP Ports
if the port in the profile is selected to be TCP, network-manager does not 
recognize that, and it is needed to manually go in network manager and select 
TCP port. However same profiles work fine on windows OpenVPN GUI, also starting 
OpenVPN from command line on linux works fine. 
remote  tcp-client - This line in the configuration is relevant. 
network-manager-openvpn cannot interpret that (but works fine on anything else 
including cli). If I manually change the profile and split 2 lines, it works on 
network-manger-openvpn. something like this:
remote 
tcp-client

SPLIT TUNNEL
if the profile is a split-tunnel configuration, network manager setting "use 
only for resources on this connection" in "ipv4 - routes" is not ticked. The 
connection tries to go full tunnel, and internet stops working. Also confirmed 
that on windows OpenVPN GUI this problem does not exist, and also starting 
OpenVPN from command line on linux works fine.

If separate bugs are requested, please let me know and I will do that.

In that case we have two bugs: one, the installer dialogue says I will not
be able to boot to the previous installation when it is the current
installation which will fail, in which case it should not proceed. The
second is that after accepting the change, the installation fails.

The setting in gnome-control-center was removed since the setting was
changed to be default to always active. Its certainly working on my
laptop however I had xserver-xorg-input-libinput installed (but no
changes to config files).

3.20 removed evdev/synaptics support completely in favour of libinput,
however I thought 3.18 has support for both. Switching the input backend
post-release seems like a pretty invasive change, unless everything is
completely broken?

Hmm, maybe the problem is just QtMir speeding up/amplifying mouse wheel
events a bit too much:

src/platforms/mirserver/qteventfeeder.cpp:

const QPoint angleDelta = QPoint(hDelta * 15, vDelta * 15);
mQtWindowSystem->handleWheelEvent(timestamp.count(), angleDelta, 
modifiers);

which then makes for a high scrolling velocity that takes a while to
finish.

Looks like the problem may get worse (even higher speed) when Ubuntu

I'm not sure if I should be posting this here, so let me know if I need to 
remove it. I could not fix apt with any of the methods listed above, nor could 
I remove any of the kde-telepathy packages with purge. The fix for my problem 
seemed to be `sudo apt-get purge kde-telepathy*` as opposed to removing each 
file individually. This fixed apt and allowed me to remove kde-desktop. The 
answer was found here.

Just did a fresh install of 16.04, added network-manager-openvpn, 
network-manager-openvpn-gnome, 
network-manager-pptp, 
network-manager-vpnc

then I was able to import my vpn configuration files via an import
script from my vpn provider, reboot (since "service networking restart"
no longer works), and connected to my vpn.  confirmation through
https://ipleak.net/ and https://www.dnsleaktest.com/ shows no other DNS
than my provider.

This bug appears to be resolved. (to me.)

Vincent, i am also tracking a similar bug (if not the same one). I too
have been testing the latest upstream kernels as instructed. They all
seem to have the same bug for me. My problems started after upgrading
from 14.04 as well. Using my grub2 boot menu to select the oldest kernel
i have seems to have no problems, but all the more recent ones do. Not
sure if you will have the same results, but worth a try.

"I recently updated one of my rigs from 14.04 to 16.04. After upgrading
Brasero tells me that it can't find libdvdcss. VLC play an inserted DVD,
I see libdvdcss in /usr/lib/x86_64-linux gnu. However, i didn't see it
simply in /usr/lib/ so I created a link there. Still didn't work, so I
copied an older libdvdcss to /usr/lib. Still no joy.

I checked to see what versions of libdvdcss I had installed - 2.2.0 in
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux, 2.1.0 in /usr/lib * mv'ed the.2.1.0 to
x86_64-linux * rm'ed the sym links to 2.2.0 * new sym link to 2.1.0 *
works. "

[Bug 1577264] [NEW] Installing 16.04 on reformatted /, /boot, and new swap. Grub install fails.

Public bug reported:

Installing 16.04 on new SSD. 250Gb  SSD configured as 16Gb swap, 8Gb
/boot, and remainder formatted as /. /Home is located on two previously
used 1Tb drives configured as single LVM volume. Tried several times
installing using UEFI thumb-drive. Each time, I get an error that it
cannot install GRUB.
