[Bug 1578886] Re: Upgrading from Ubuntu 14.04.4 to 16.04 Failed due to Third-Party Packages

2016-05-05 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1279762 ***

You seem to have installed the cinnamon package on Ubuntu 13.10.
Unfortunately, that package is not available yet for 14.04. To upgrade
to Ubuntu 14.04 LTS you'll need to either wait for a fix for cinnamon to
be available or uninstall the package and then upgrade.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 1578749] Re: fontconfig substitutes not considered by libgdiplus

2016-05-05 Thread Mingye Wang
Regarding that test case, consider resizing the button explicitly or
just use the CJK string "我是方框。", since the button by default has a fixed
size.

In https://github.com/AOSC-Dev/aosc-os-abbs/issues/224, JeffBai
(github:MingcongBai) found out that using pango does fix the problem.
The pango linking LDFLAGS in configure was a little bit off however --
we appended '-lm -lpangoft2-1.0' to LDFLAGS explicitly after configure
to deal with link failures.

[Bug 1576500] Re: Plasma fails to load: "all shell packages missing"

2016-05-05 Thread Darren Peets
Doesn't quite fix it for me.

Purging and reinstalling snapd had no effect.

~/.local/share/plasma already had one thing in it, so I created a
variety of new links into /usr/share/plasma/*. That gave me a KDE
splash screen, the popup about plasmashell being missing went away, and
the crash report dialog was for baloo-file instead of krunner. Still no
taskbar, widgets, wallpaper, etc.

Creating a link for /var/lib/snapd/desktop/plasma or making the link and
purging and reinstalling snapd again (the link survived the purge) had
no effect. So I still get to go through the same workaround
thunderbird>chromium>konsole>teamviewer>plasmashell.

After doing all this, the second instance of KDE lost its taskbar. Had
to create it again from the right-click menu on the desktop. The new
one looks different, so perhaps it was previously loading the 15.10
version somehow.

Also, when the second instance of X starts, the first thing that appears
is the login screen, which looks like the Kubuntu 15.10 version. When I
lock the screen, I get the 16.04 screen locker. The former displays the
time in a localized format based on the physical location of the
computer (China), the latter displays the time using the system
language/localization (Canadian English).

So I'm wondering if something moved around between the two versions, but
without updating an important config file somewhere.

Because you don't know that it's the same issue. This bug has been marked

Up to this point, this looks like a successful download of shim (named
bootx64.efi on the server) via PXE.

This looks like messages due to shim using the PXE protocol grabbing
grubx64.efi, and is also successful.

This is presumably output from grub, driven by whatever is in the grub.cfg.
Can you provide the grub.cfg that's present on the PXE server? Can you show
tftp logs of what files were downloaded, in what order?

Are you expecting the system to boot from local disk at this point? Does
this path being booted from exist? Where does the path for this boot entry
come from, and if the file path exists, is it a proper copy of Ubuntu shim?

I assume this is a boot menu from a grub.cfg provided by the MAAS server,
containing only a single boot entry pointing at the local disk and
configured to autoboot, so if the boot fails it takes you back to the same
menu again.

I assume this 'Ubuntu' option is the grub.cfg from the local disk displaying
briefly, only after the point that grub has successfully chainloaded to the
shim+grub on the local disk.

Well, it could be a shim or grub bug, or a firmware bug, or even a maas bug,
depending on the above.

(which is written in C++)? It is way more painful to profile
applications on stock Ubuntu.

This can mean that Mir developers are not interested in performance of
their server, which I hope is a wrong conclusion to draw.

[Bug 1578398] Re: ImageMagick Security Issue reported yesterday

2016-05-05 Thread Seth Arnold
Jon, severity in launchpad is mostly unused. (Maybe some teams use it
but I'm not aware of them.) Issues that the Ubuntu Security Team tracks
are on the Ubuntu CVE Tracker:

https://people.canonical.com/~ubuntu-security/cve/pkg/imagemagick.html

Now the bad news -- I don't think the upstream developers have
understood the issues and prepared meaningful patches. My full critique
is at http://www.openwall.com/lists/oss-security/2016/05/03/19 .

Ideally the upstream authors will create patches that do address my
concerns (and the concerns raised by the mail.ru security team privately
with the upstream authors).

There's some suggestions here for mitigations: https://imagetragick.com/

I recommend testing these mitigations in your environment. I also
recommend using AppArmor to confine services that allow users to provide
images for ImageMagick manipulation.

Thanks

[Bug 1577057] Re: zfs initrd script fails when rootdelay boot option is set

2016-05-05 Thread Richard Laager
@svde-tech: Can you please test from this PPA:
https://launchpad.net/~rlaager/+archive/ubuntu/zfs

The init script is slightly different from my last iteration. I removed
one unrelated change. I also applied your fix, but stopped suppressing
stdout (since that's probably unnecessary). Besides making sure it works
with rootdelay, please watch the terminal and confirm you're not seeing
any spurious output from zpool commands.

If you do test from my PPA, please remove it from your APT sources when
you're done testing. I don't want some future experiment I upload to
break your system.

[Bug 1571241] Re: ZFS initrd script does not import zpool using /dev/disk/by-id device paths

2016-05-05 Thread Richard Laager
@svde-tech: Can you please test from this PPA:
https://launchpad.net/~rlaager/+archive/ubuntu/zfs

Here's what I think should happen. Right now, you're seeing /dev/sdX
names. If you reboot with this package, you'll still see /dev/sdX names.
Reboot again and edit your GRUB command line (at boot, not permanently)
and change the pool name to be wrong. When the initrd fails to import
it, import it manually with: zpool import -d /dev/disk/by-id -f -R / -N
POOLNAME Then export it with: zpool export POOLNAME Finally: reboot At
that point, the system should come up normally.

I tested this and it works for me.

If you do test from my PPA, please remove it from your APT sources when
you're done testing. I don't want some future experiment I upload to
break your system.

[Bug 1532198] Re: [MIR] zfs-linux

2016-05-05 Thread Richard Laager
It turns out that this is still necessary. zfsutils-linux installs
/usr/share/man/man8/zed.8.gz, which is also installed by zfs-zed. That
needs to be fixed at the same time the Replaces is versioned. If I'm
understanding correctly, Policy says a versioned Breaks should be added
too.

I've made these changes (along with other bug fixes) here:
https://launchpad.net/~rlaager/+archive/ubuntu/zfs

[Bug 1578900] [NEW] file chooser broken since last update

2016-05-05 Thread Conrad Firm
Public bug reported:

since last update (maybe a week? two weeks?) whenever I use the
Open/Save option, the file chooser/browser works very, very badly...

none of the "Places" shortcuts, on the LHS, work - neither do the
"Devices" shortcuts

as for my own "Bookmarks" shortcuts, they appear to be suffering from
some kind of "sticky click" where as soon as you click on one, it tries
to move this to somewhere instead of activating it - only if you put it
back where it was (or move it up or down among the other Bookmarks) does
it actually function and allow you to choose a file path

I have attached a screenshot to help demonstrate this (note: choosing
the file to attach to this bug report had the same issue - even clicking
on the path along the top behaves erratically)

[Bug 1304437] Re: After connecting to OpenVPN server the default DNS is no longer available

This still happens in Xenial.

#7 has it right, if the IPv4 and IPv6 'use this connection only for
resources on its network' are different then the default DNS server is
dropped.

It is very easy to make this mistake and very hard to figure out that is
the problem!

[Bug 1578821] Re: I'm not able to install galician language in Ubuntu 16.04

2016-05-05 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
The explanation is probably that hunspell-gl, provided by libreoffice-
dictionaries, is present in 16.04, and hunspell-gl-es conflicts with the
former. Suppose we should drop hunspell-gl for now.

A workaround until this has been fixed is to install the Galician
translations from a terminal window:

sudo apt install language-pack-gl language-pack-gnome-gl

Then you can run the check-language-support command, and manually
install the listed packages, except for hunspell-gl.

[Bug 1051203] Re: ubuntu software center wont star

2016-05-05 Thread Joe Carey
It used to start when I first installed 16.04, but was buggy. Progress
bar not really telling you what's happening. Choose to uninstall
something, only to see it immediately show up in the list again. Now
though, it doesn't start at all. What can I provide to help?

[Bug 1577621] Re: error al instalar grub2 dentro de instalacion de ubuntu 16.04

2016-05-05 Thread Phillip Susi
Your disk is currently partitioned to boot in bios mode, but you booted
the 16.04 installer in EFI mode. A warning message prompted you that
this could be a problem and recommended performing a bios mode install
instead, but you chose not to. You either need to perform the bios mode
install, or partition the disk using GPT and set up an EFI system
partition to install in EFI mode. This will be done for you if you
choose the "use entire disk" guided install option.

[Bug 1578045] Re: Attempted to install ubuntu 16 on a secondary SSD for a dual boot setup and received grub installer error

2016-05-05 Thread Phillip Susi
Actually it is best to install Windows first, then Ubuntu. The only rub
here is that you installed Windows in bios mode, then tried to install
Ubuntu in EFI mode, and did not heed the warning that you can not do
this, and asked if you wanted to install Ubuntu in bios mode instead, so
that it would be able to correctly dual boot with Windows. Simply
choose the cancel option at the warning to switch back to installing in
bios mode, and it should work fine.

[Bug 1578880] [NEW] Build hyphen-* packages

2016-05-05 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
Public bug reported:

It would be handy to have the openoffice.org-hyphenation source package
build separate hyphen-* binaries for the remaining hyphenation
dictionaries. That way, if/when a dictionary for one of the languages is
added to libreoffice-dictionaries, we won't need to worry about
conflicts. Also, openoffice.org-hyphenation can be dropped from
pkg_depends in language-selector, so pkg_depends doesn't keep pulling
e.g. Finnish and Indonesian hyphenation for all users.

[Bug 1570698] Re: CI failure in TestClientInput.receives_one_touch_event_per_frame

2016-05-05 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Brandon: This actually only happens once or twice a week or so for the
rest of us. If your branch hits it more often that might indicate that
branch needs fixing.

[Bug 1578469] Re: Crashes in unity8 cause infinite restarts and/or a permanently black screen

2016-05-05 Thread Daniel van Vugt
I know we want Unity8 to respawn on occasional/rare crashes. But we need
a different plan for immediate start-up crashes... For those you need to
soon fall back to something else that will at least display a picture
(USC I guess).

Obeying a respawn limit of 10 or so would be a nice compromise I think.
