[Bug 1579950] Re: ubuntu-core tarballs to be renamed to ubuntu-base

2016-05-11 Thread Steve Langasek
** Description changed:

  [SRU Justification]
To remove confusion with the ubuntu-core snappy product, the ubuntu-core root
tarballs are being retroactively renamed to ubuntu-base. This requires an SRU
of livecd-rootfs to align with the changes in ubuntu-cdimage, so that
daily/point release builds of the ubuntu-base tarballs continue to be possible.

  [Regression potential]
Minimal; this is a minimal change to livecd-rootfs to recognize the
ubuntu-base project name, all other code is left unchanged.

  [Test case]
- 1. Run an ubuntu-base build with -proposed by running 'DIST=[xenial|trusty]
PROPOSED=1 for-project ubuntu-core cron.daily-live --live'
+ 1. Run an ubuntu-base build with -proposed by running 'DIST=[xenial|trusty]
PROPOSED=1 for-project ubuntu-base cron.daily-live --live'
  2. Confirm that the tarball builds successfully and contains a rootfs.

[Bug 1510344] Re: Keyboard Backlight Turns on at boot

2016-05-11 Thread Allen Hung
I am working in Dell. I have some digging on this issue. There are two
symptoms reported in the thread – the keyboard backlight unexpectedly
turns ON on boot and after the resume from a screen lock. These are due
to two different causes.

- the backlight unexpectedly turns ON on boot, regardless of the
previous state of brightness. This is an intentional behavior of “unity-
settings-daemon”. This daemon reads the brightness value of
kbd_backlight (via “upowerd”) when system starts up, and turn it on (via
upowerd) if the read value is 0 (which indicates the backlight is off).
Even worse, the daemon does not make this behavior configurable.

- The backlight unexpectedly turns ON after the resume from a screen
lock, regardless of the previous state of brightness. The “unity-
settings-daemon” also deals with power management things. It turns the
backlight off when the system is about to dim screen for power saving
reason. Also, the daemon thought itself as the only S/W piece that can
set the brightness of backlight and no other ones will change it, so it
does not query for the current state of backlight before dimming it. But
the fact is, Dell’s BIOS already dimmed the backlight due to a timeout
of idle. When screen resumes, the daemon resumes the backlight to ON as
it assumed the backlight was ON before dim.

The issue should start happening since the introduce of commit
6cff8d60aa0aba5583ecda09984dbcb2f24cc28d (pointed out in #5), because it
implements a new “kbd_backlight” driver in dell-laptop kernel module. It
it gives the chance to “upowerd” for having the control over the
keyboard backlight hardware on Dell laptops.

The workaround provided in #47 does work because it denies “unity-
settings-daemon” from sending DBUS commands that regarding kbd_backlight
set/get to upowerd.

[Bug 1574090] Re: Brasero not translated at all on ubuntu 16.04

2016-05-11 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thanks Gunnar, that patch is not needed since USE_NLS is defined by
AM_GLIB_GNU_GETTEXT, what was needed is to have a rebuild so
translations are not removed from the binary.

I'm doing a SRU with another fix that should fix that as well.

Note that for yakkety we might want to add "X-Ubuntu-Use-Langpack: yes"
to debian/control and use langpack again, that would allow launchpad
translators to contribute to the translations (we can't easily do that
in xenial, or we would need to coordinate with a new langpacks landing
adding back the domain)

2016-05-11 Thread Daniel
I had the same problem at my machine. I tried to remove and then
reinstall openssh-server, but the same error occurred. I know, that just
remove openssh-server takes all my conf files on the system. I finally
solved my problem by using sshd -t and get an error in my config file,
which was running fine with previous version of openssh-server. It
seems, that there is no more option to for roaming?

Comment out "UseRoaming no" fixed this issue for me. Perhaps you use
this option in your old config file?

[Bug 1580697] Re: Kernel freezes after drm_wait_one_vblank timed out

2016-05-11 Thread Klaus Bielke
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected

** Description changed:

Using kernel 4.4.0 from Ubuntu GNOME 16.04 I get a lot of warnings
'drm_wait_one_vblank timed out' while booting and every time when I
switch user or session via Alt-Fn. Example logs will be attached, I used
  this for saving the log:

  journalctl -b --system --no-pager |tee bootlog-$(uname -r)-$(lsb_release
  -sr)

I suspect this may be related to some of my problems (slow switch,
freeze, wrong VT: Alt-Fn6 roots to tty3) when switching virtual
  terminal.

- I see these messages on 16.04 or 14.04 when using kernel
- 4.4.0-21-generic, 4.4.0-22-generic or mainline kernel
- 4.4.0-040400-generic or 4.5.2-040502-generic, but mainline kernel
- 4.3.6-040306-generic does not throw this message and there are no
- problems with 4.3.6 while switching VT.

apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected xenial

  Ubuntu 16.04 LTS

Cacti 0.8.8f which is the default version for Ubuntu 16.04 uses invalid
datetime values ("-00-00 00:00:00"). MySQL 5.7 does not support
zero-dates, this causes the Cacti poller script to run amok and execute
the same SQL queries over and over. In my case this ends up with MySQL
consuming about 35% CPU and php (via the poller) about 15% CPU.

- This probably goes for clean installs as well (as Cacti has this invalid
- datetime in a number of the php-files supplied by the Cacti package)

[Bug 1578144] Re: Cacti causes high CPU load via MySQL after upgrade to Ubuntu 16.04

2016-05-11 Thread Hans Rönnbäck
Ran the commands, which returned this;

@@global.sql_mode =
ONLY_FULL_GROUP_BY,STRICT_TRANS_TABLES,NO_ZERO_IN_DATE,NO_ZERO_DATE,ERROR_FOR_DIVISION_BY_ZERO,NO_AUTO_CREATE_USER,NO_ENGINE_SUBSTITUTION

@@session.sql_mode =
ONLY_FULL_GROUP_BY,STRICT_TRANS_TABLES,NO_ZERO_IN_DATE,NO_ZERO_DATE,ERROR_FOR_DIVISION_BY_ZERO,NO_AUTO_CREATE_USER,NO_ENGINE_SUBSTITUTION

@sql_mode =
ONLY_FULL_GROUP_BY,STRICT_TRANS_TABLES,NO_ZERO_IN_DATE,NO_ZERO_DATE,ERROR_FOR_DIVISION_BY_ZERO,NO_AUTO_CREATE_USER,NO_ENGINE_SUBSTITUTION

And these values seem to be the default as of MySQL 5.7

I've scanned the cacti forums, where its repeatedly stated that cacti is
incompatible with "strict mode" (which implies
NO_ZERO_IN_DATE/NO_ZERO_DATE). I've also tried to modify the cacti php
files to clear the sql_mode, but it doesn't seem to work (still get
errors in logs about invalid dates)

And my upgrade path is similar to Andrews, i.e. started out on Ubuntu
13.10, upgraded to 14.04 followed by 15.10 then went to 16.04 (last step
introduced the problem)

Did the apport-collect as asked (it stated that my cacti cron-job was
modified, but I have no memory of ever manipulating that file)

[Bug 1580865] [NEW] vim-gtk and/or vim-gnome icon not shown properly

2016-05-11 Thread epii
Public bug reported:

After upgrading to Xenial, vim-gtk icon is not shown properly. ("?" is
shown alternatively.)

>From the short examination of the current source package, the cause of
this problem is that the icon file name specified in .desktop file
(located in runtime/gvim.desktop) is "gvim" but actual pixmap files are
named as "vim".

So, please modify .desktop file or rename icon file names.
Personally, the latter solution is preferred since the .desktop file is named
as "gvim".

you are the first one having that bug. and BTW, "/dev" is usually
populated by the kernel, so I'm really not sure about why you should
have different configuration there.

please consider asking upstream, at least to have a more verbose error
message

[Bug 1573168] Re: [Frieza] Location service fails to start cleanly, entering restart loop

2016-05-11 Thread Joan CiberSheep
Hi. Similar behaviour here.
I use bq E5 -> updated to OTA 10.1. GPS works perfect.
I have bq m10 that came with OTA9.5 and directly updated to 10.1. GPS seems not
to work at all (no blinking location icon but I was unable to detect exact
position).

I wanted to test if GPS was working with OTA 9.5 so I reset the tablet but it
restarted with OTA10.1. Location icon, this time blinks:
- Switching off GPS in battery is not possible (GPS keeps restarting)
- Switching off GPS from notification panel turns it off but keeps blinking
(off)

Deactivated all scopes that requires location, installed SensorsStatus.
- SensorsStatus give no GPS data
- SensorsStatus: Found supported backend

Some reboots.
Location icon stopped blinking.

"sudo ubuntu-location-serviced-cli --bus system --test" give no output.
Location icon in notifications panel keeps in on position but grey. It
is not possible to tap or turn off

¿Defective GPS?

I hope those logs helps

[Bug 1574777] Re: tablet connected to monitor shows black screen - Idek Iiyama PL2409HD

2016-05-11 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Yes 0.6Hz sounds bad but I'm hoping we can ignore it for a couple of
reasons:

1. Mir does not use that information to change its behaviour. Only
prints it out. Instead Mir will sync to vblank (60Hz or whatever).

1.1. Android drivers on the other hand might use that information, which
would be bad but not if #2 is proven...

2. If other M10 owners also see "0.6Hz" but can get external displays to
work fine then the 0.6Hz message is benign and is a minor bug that can
be ignored. In that case it's _not_ an indication of the speed Mir is
trying to render at.

[Bug 1580836] [NEW] Gnome Software ignores software-properties-gtk "When there are other updates" setting

2016-05-11 Thread unflavored
Public bug reported:

On Ubuntu 16.04, using gnome-software 3.20.1+git20160426.1.a976144
-ubuntu-xenial-0ubuntu1

software-properties-gtk has a setting for "When there are other updates"
besides security updates. Setting this to "Display every two weeks"
should prevent all non-security update notifications from bothering the
user more often than every two weeks.

gnome-software categorizes some non-security updates as "OS Updates" and
every day it displays the pop-up message "Software Updates Available
Important OS and application updates are ready to be installed."
