When the application is installed there is no file association for
.blend files. ie, when i double click on a .blend file, it runs apturl
(i think) and tries to locate a program. This also fails to locate
blender in the software centre.

Well, there is a reason to except hunspell-gl-es, even if it's not as
important as the current exception: The users will be prompted to
uninstall hunspell-gl-es via "apt autoremove", and if they do, and
without the exception, they would be prompted by language-selector to
install it again, and so
Never mind. Unity obviously uses unity-settings-daemon these days.
I believe Ubuntu GNOME will want to hard depend on libinput for yakkety
so it would be good if unity-control-center could handle libinput too so
that Touchpad Settings work well for those who use both GNOME and Unity.

Over 18 months ago (see #35) this was assigned to Iain Lane. Why has
activity stalled?
'lxinput' and/or 'xset' may be workarounds, no doubt of interest to
those few who visit this report. But what about the other 99% of users
who suffer but have no idea how to search Launchpad and find

I am experiencing the same issue. The download to SMB share via
transmission starts and then errors out with the same error you are
facing. I wasn't facing this in 14.04. I am facing this only in 16.04
