2016-05-27 Thread Seth Arnold
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears
to be a "regular" (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.
Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

[Bug 1584353] Re: SD card fails to mount with 'Failed to add storage device', but can be mounted from terminal

2016-05-27 Thread Jonathan Pelletier
Yes it was different. My issue was that I was using SDXC, while SDHC
cards have no issue. However I did try and ext4 formatted SDHC card and
I got the message "Unable to mount SD card. Check to see if it was
formatted correctly." I was also able to mount from the command line,
but I did not like the behavior. Instead I decided to reformat the card
as fat32 and I had no issues.

[Bug 1586570] [NEW] openvpn chroot does not have a valid resolv.conf

2016-05-27 Thread Jason Gunthorpe
Public bug reported:

If you leave openvpn running for long enough it will eventually begin to
fail with output like:

May 27 19:16:54 wakko nm-openvpn[16480]: RESOLVE: Cannot resolve host
address: : Temporary failure in name resolution

Analysis shows this is because openvpn is sending DNS queries to
127.0.0.1:

socket(PF_INET, SOCK_DGRAM|SOCK_NONBLOCK, IPPROTO_IP) = 8
connect(8, {sa_family=AF_INET, sin_port=htons(53),
sin_addr=inet_addr("127.0.0.1")}, 16) = 0
poll([{fd=8, events=POLLOUT}], 1, 0)= 1 ([{fd=8, revents=POLLOUT}])
sendto(8, ..., 30, MSG_NOSIGNAL, NULL, 0) = 30

However, this is not correct, dnsmasq listens on 127.0.1.1.

It appears the a cause of this is the chroot, the chroot has no
resolv.conf in it and the glibc default is to use 127.0.0.1

openvpn does a DNS query before chroot'ing which used to be enough to
cache resolv.conf forever. I wonder if something has changed in glibc
recently to cause the resolv.conf to be reloaded (eg Debian apparently
has a patch that does this)

A work around would be to copy the system resolv.conf into
/var/lib/openvpn/chroot before starting openvpn

Seen on Xenial and a few prior versions.

[Bug 1586195] Re: Realtek 8153-based ethernet adapter on usb3 eventually stops working requiring unplug/replug

2016-05-27 Thread Mike Gerow
If it's any help at all: my personal laptop running Debian unstable
doesn't seem to have the same issue with this device (it's on 4.5.0).

Also, this adapter specifically is the "Monoprice USB3.0 Gigabit

is Realtek 8153-based as the bug title mentions.

And by "doesn't seem to have the same issue" I mean I still get the
"Stop submitting intr, status -71" error when disconnecting the device,
but it doesn't seem to randomly stop working between when I initially

[Bug 1586538] Re: certutils from libnss3-tools - man page contradicts Mozilla's

2016-05-27 Thread Seth Arnold
Could you please report this issue to Mozilla? Based on a quick look of
our source code and manpage I think our manpages correctly document the
situation:

lib/certdb/certdb.c

SECStatus
CERT_DecodeTrustString(CERTCertTrust *trust, const char *trusts)
{
unsigned int i;
unsigned int *pflags;

if (!trust) {
PORT_SetError(SEC_ERROR_INVALID_ARGS);
return SECFailure;
}
trust->sslFlags = 0;
trust->emailFlags = 0;
trust->objectSigningFlags = 0;
if (!trusts) {
PORT_SetError(SEC_ERROR_INVALID_ARGS);
return SECFailure;
}

pflags = >sslFlags;

for (i=0; i < PORT_Strlen(trusts); i++) {
switch (trusts[i]) {
  case 'p':
  *pflags = *pflags | CERTDB_TERMINAL_RECORD;
  break;

  case 'P':
  *pflags = *pflags | CERTDB_TRUSTED | CERTDB_TERMINAL_RECORD;
  break;

lib/certdb/certdb.h

typedef unsigned int __CERTDB_VALID_PEER __attribute__((deprecated
("CERTDB_VALID_PEER is now CERTDB_TERMINAL_RECORD")));

There's a chance that "valid peer" is really being used to mean "not trusted
for this particular feature" but that feels strange.

Thanks

[Bug 1572321] Re: owncloud network access is disabled

2016-05-27 Thread KDontenville
This is still constant pain for me and is reported as an error based on
building from a bug in QT5 shipping with 16.04.

After every suspend on all 16.04 laptops we use, owncloud client refuses
to find the reappearance of the network connection. Quit app and restart
before it will find it.

I have collated a few of the reports here which may help identify the
key patches needed, but at the moment the solution for the build does
not seem to be in place.

See here: https://github.com/owncloud/client/issues/3888

Last comments:

(For OS X and Windows, we add the patch
https://github.com/owncloud/client/blob/master/admin/qt/patches/0012
-Make-sure-networkAccessibilityChanged-is-emitted.patch which did not
make it into Qt 5.1.1 release)

and here: https://github.com/owncloud/client/issues/4839

with a comment of:
$SOMEONE needs to get Ubuntu to update their Qt packages to check if there is a
need to add any of the patches listed in
https://github.com/owncloud/client/tree/2.2/admin/qt/patches

And also here: https://github.com/owncloud/client/issues/4720

Comment:
Could be that we also need https://codereview.qt-project.org/#/c/146115/ ..
maybe you want to try that out and report back.
(On Windows, OS X we don't ship the Qt bearer plugins, that's why this patch is
not needed)

Might help identify the patches!

[Bug 913434]

2016-05-27 Thread Peterwcostello
This is a multi-threading problem with LCMS version 2.5. It was claimed to have
been fixed with LCMS v2.6, but many OS are still running the older packages. I
have code that parses PDF files. It is running in a production environment on
random PDF files and with lots of threads. I was able to stop the error (~2
years ago) by adding "syncronized" keyword around the following block of java
code:
   ICC_Profile profile = ICC_Profile.getInstance(byte[]);
   ICC_ColorSpace colorSpace = new ICC_ColorSpace(profile);
   int numComponents = 3; // From PDF dictionary, typically '3' (RGB).
   float[] components = new float[numComponents];

   // Test that ICC_Profile can be parsed
   // Generates an exception on malformed byte[]
   // Crashes JVM sporadically if not forced inline by 'syncronized'
   new java.awt.Color(colorSpace,components,1f);

If it helps, here's my java method (won't compile as it is missing methods):
public static synchronized PDFColorSpace getICCColorSpace(PDFToken
dict) throws IOException {
PDFColorSpace cs=null;
PDFToken nToken = dict.getDictionaryItem(N);
int numComponents = (nToken==null) ? 1 : nToken.getInteger();

try {

ICC_Profile profile =
ICC_Profile.getInstance(dict.getStream().toString8().getBytes());

// This does not prevent JVM Crash with BELL.SW
// if (profile.getNumComponents() == numComponents) ...

ICC_ColorSpace colorSpace = new ICC_ColorSpace(profile);
cs = new NativeColorSpace(TypeICC,colorSpace);

// Test if ICC_Profile is OK. Will throw Exception (or
even crash the JVM)
//   eg: Cik#99001898,
http://www.siemens.com/investor/pool/de/investor_relations/events/hauptversammlung/2012/dividendenbekanntmachung.pdf,
 pg0
//   eg: JVM Crash, Cik#99002137, BELL.SW
float[] components = new float[numComponents];
new java.awt.Color(colorSpace,components,1f);

} catch (Exception e) {
cs=null;
}
return cs;
  }

[Bug 1488959] Re: Tapping screen when dimmed should just restore the brightness and not activate a component

2016-05-27 Thread Selene Scriven
Hi, if this had a fix committed way back in September, is there a reason
why it's still not released? For now, I'm assuming the spec was updated
but no code has been written?

Today's build still activates whatever the user tapped, instead of just
bumping the brightness back up and resetting the dimming timer.

[Bug 1572241] Re: PrintScreen key autorepeats, probably shouldn't

2016-05-27 Thread Treviño
Mh, it's a regression for that usecase, but I think that the fix here is
more important than the annoyance of pressing a volume key multple
times.

Having this fix for only some keys is doable, although it requires
whitelisting some keys, which isn't the nicest thing in the world.

However, please open a new bug, since the verification for this fix is
there.

[Bug 1586552] [NEW] trackpad on MacBook not working with 4.4.0-22 update

2016-05-27 Thread koadman
Public bug reported:

After updating the kernel to 4.4.0-22 the trackpad on my MacBook Air no longer
works.
It looks like the usbmouse driver loads first and associates with the touchpad,
and this prevents the bcm5974 module from acquiring the hardware.
I was able to resolve the problem by manually unloading the usbmouse module,
then reloading bcm5974:

modprobe -r usbmouse
modprobe -r bcm5974
modprobe bcm5974

[Bug 1586401] Re: Errors were encountered while processing: libapache2-mod-php7.0

2016-05-27 Thread Nish Aravamudan
Thank you for filing this bug report!

I'm not sure how this came about. I just did a quick apt-file check on
the package versions in question (7.0.4-7ubuntu2 and 7.0.4-7ubuntu2.1)
and don't see any reason for the security update to think it owns
/etc/php/7.0/cli/php.ini.

Also, I spun up a lxc container of 16.04 and forcibly installed
7.0.4-7ubuntu2. Then I upgraded off security to the latest and had no
errors.

Did you happen to change the default configuration in some way?

Clean install is essential, whether in a VM or full install. Don't
upgrade from e.g. 15.10.

That's what I do too.

Since Anthy should not be installed on 16.04?

That's odd indeed. Unless you upgraded from 15.10 after all, and there
are leftovers from it.

Looking forward to hear about your observations from a truly clean 16.04

If it's not enabled by default, it shouldn't be any problem.

[Bug 1586377] Re: Upgardes and updates

2016-05-27 Thread Seth Arnold
I'm sorry, 12.10 reached the end of its supported life two years ago:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases

Upgrading from such an old release may be quite difficult because the
upgrade path includes releases that are also no longer supported and not
available on the mirror network.

Probably the best way forward is to download and install 16.04 LTS --
more information is available at http://www.ubuntu.com/download -- and
16.04 LTS will be supported for another five years.

Thanks

[Bug 1577227] Re: shutdown fails with password request

2016-05-27 Thread god
Seems like xubuntu somehow managed to break user sessions: I'm member of
sudo group and default .pkla in /var/lib/polkit-1 should allow me to
shutdown without asking for password if there is an active session.
Apparently polkit fails to see the session - I recall there's been some
news regarding xfce and consolekit, not sure if it's related.

[Bug 1586293] Re: Hard to identify package name in Danish translation of update description

2016-05-27 Thread Mikkel Kirkgaard Nielsen
Hi Steve.
Ahh thanks, not always easy when the naming of GUI stuff diverges from the apt
package names. Am also annoyed by update-manager not showing the package name
prominently. Finding that is usually the reason for me to open the changelog.
The right package did the trick;

[Bug 910174] Re: Macbook Air 4.2 no advanced keys on danish keyboard

2016-05-27 Thread Jon
I am new to this so I am sorry if I do It wrong or if i piss somebody off.
2011 thats 5 years to change a keymap. I think many mac users just gave up by
now (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2319868).
This howto has a working .xmodmap for danish keyboards:
http://howto.praqma.net/ubuntu/keyboard
It doesnt change the "keyboard layout chart", but it works allright.

How hard would it be to submit this to upcoming bugfixes. Obviously i
don't know how this works haha.

[Bug 1586544] [NEW] No trackpad options are displaying in settings

2016-05-27 Thread Adam Chou
Public bug reported:

This is a fresh Xenial install on a Dell Precision 7510.

When I go to Settings->Mouse & Touchpad, the only three settings
displayed are

1. Primary button
2. Double-click
3. Pointer speed

I can't invert my scroll direction, or set any of the other settings. I
believe the trackpad functionality is working as I can do a two finger
scroll correctly.

[Bug 1586539] [NEW] Major screen flickering in Chromium and Google Chrome

2016-05-27 Thread Vasya Pupkin
Public bug reported:

On a fresh installation of Ubuntu 16.04 I noticed major screen
flickering issues in Chromium and Google Chrome browsers. Since this
never happened in Ubuntu 15.10 with exactly the same Google Chrome
binary, I believe, bug is caused by something that was added/updated in
16.04. I came across some discussions where different people suggested
that it is related to new X.Org version.

Here's a video to show what is happening:
https://youtu.be/l21WsKz3fZc?t=45s

I could fix this flickering with --disable-gpu-compositing switch, but
this slows down page drawing significantly so it can't be considered a
workaround. There is also a Chromium bug report:
https://bugs.chromium.org/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=606152, but I
don't think they will fix an Ubuntu-specific bug.

[Bug 1586164] Re: Unable to install "Japanese (Anthy)" input source through the standard gnome-control-center means

2016-05-27 Thread Nikita Yerenkov-Scott
I plan to upgrade to 16.04 tomorrow, but I will install a VM in the mean
time to give you a screencast of what I am doing. But seriously, all I
am doing is opening the region & language section, selecting Japanese,
installing everything through the normal way and rebooting, then looking
for Anthy I don't find an option but I do find ibus-anthy installed and
I didn't install it.

I mentioned 3.20 because I was sure that I had tested all this on it too
though I could be mistaken, but I thought I had.

https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Mozilla/Projects/NSS/tools/NSS_Tools_certutil#Options_and_Arguments

contradicts the man page here:
http://manpages.ubuntu.com/manpages/wily/man1/certutil.1.html

In the former "-t p" is "prohibited (explicitly distrusted)". In the
latter, it's "Valid peer".

I'm listing it as a security vuln, because someone could do mistakenly
do the wrong thing.

[Bug 1574020] Re: Can't use networkmanager from lightdm

2016-05-27 Thread Xavier Charpentier
I can confirm this behavior on a fresh install of 16.04 on the Dell XPS 13
developer edition.
I get the same error message when trying to setup a wireless connection in
lightdm. I don't whether this connected or not but the hotkeys (volume up/down,
screen brightness) also don't work in lightdm. I installed kernel 4.6 because
of the wireless toggle not working in 4.4. That solved the wireless toggle but
did not change the issue in lightdm.
