[Bug 1524635] Re: haproxy syslog configuration causes double logging

2016-06-06 Thread Brad Marshall
I've just tried upgrading a system to the haproxy from your PPA, and it
now only logs to /var/log/syslog. The rsyslog.d file has disappeared
completely, and its no longer logging to /var/log/haproxy.log. Is that
the intended outcome from this? Or should it be logging to just
/var/log/haproxy.log?

I also tried installing the new haproxy by hand, and it still had
/etc/rsyslog.d/haproxy.conf file, and was only logging to
/var/log/syslog.

Please let me know if you need any more information.

[Bug 1586412] Re: Remote scopes are very often empty

2016-06-06 Thread Marcus Tomlinson
This issue actually turned out to be primarily due to a change made in
unity-scopes-api from json-cpp to json-glib, whereby the json returned
from the SSS was being mistreated in some places.

Thanks to Pawel's fixes to unity-scopes-api and Facundo's fix to the
eBay scope, all remote scopes are in working order again.

[Bug 1587686] Re: ZFS: Running ztest repeatedly for long periods of time eventually results in "zdb: can't open 'ztest': No such file or directory"

2016-06-06 Thread LeetMiniWheat
Thanks for looking into this, I'll test that build tonight but I assume
I'll see similar results.

In my previous tests with this commit applied I still occasionally ran
into the error (albeit far less often, sometimes not at all, or rather
quickly) and also some other traces regarding pthreads (current
0.6.5-release sort of incorrectly uses pthreads and ASSERTs and other
things at the moment from what I understand, and there's a lot of
upstream work being done on it in master). lowlatency kernels seem to
fail faster on it too which is a bit confusing. I still think there's a
lot of corner case bugs in ZFS and ztest. Fully fixing ztest/ZFS/SPL for
0.5.6-release would likely be way too invasive to backport, and it looks
like bandaids such as this only prolong the inevitable failure.

After much cherry picking, trial & error, and commenting on some upsteam
commits I don't believe ztest was intended for end users or as a
reliable long-term stress tool - nor does it get as much developer
attention for releases since it's not a real-world test. One upstream
developer/maintainer even commented that ztest is intended for ZFS
developers (implying end users shouldn't be using it?) - which makes me
question why it's even included in zfsutils-linux if it's fundamentally
broken on release versions. If it's this unreliable then it will create
many more false positives for others looking to test the stability of
Ubuntu's ZFS, resulting in people thikning ZFS or Ubuntu's ZFS
implementation is broken when in fact it may be perfectly fine under
real world workloads.

ztest still works as a short term test for ZFS functions though and this
commit probably did belong in release (they've marked it for 0.6.5.8
milestone) but as mentioned above there's many other outstanding issues
this tool brings to light (whether falsely positive or not).

On a side note, I'd be interested in seeing ZFS ran under AFL (AFL
Filesystem fuzzing, a tool which recently discovered many upstream bugs
in existing kernel filesystems) since many corner case bugs were found
in current filesystems with fixes incoming for backport to 4.4.13,
4.5.7, and 4.6.2 however LinuxFoundation's Oracle AFL event/presentation
only included the most commonly used in-kernel filesystems.

Sorry if this is noise, but hopefully this will bring more awareness to
this issue which may not even be an issue, the correct fix may be to
move ztest to another (dev or debug?) package.

[Bug 1454668] Re: Failed to upgrade/reinstall libreoffice-common

2016-06-06 Thread Allan Dyer
Workaround:
I've found it is not necessary to uninstall Sophos Anti-virus, just disabling
the on-access scanning is enough:

/opt/sophos-av/bin/savdctl disable
apt-get upgrade
/opt/sophos-av/bin/savdctl enable

and re-enable it afterwards, so you still have the AV protection the rest of
the time.
Thanks to John Correa - his post reminded me I should add this note.

[Bug 1589139] Re: The system does not suspend.

2016-06-06 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Ismail Gjevori, in order to allow additional upstream developers to examine the
issue, at your earliest convenience, could you please test the latest upstream
kernel available from http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/?C=N;O=D ?
Please keep in mind the following:
1) The one to test is at the very top line at the top of the page (not the
daily folder).
2) The release names are irrelevant.
3) The folder time stamps aren't indicative of when the kernel actually was
released upstream.
4) Install instructions are available at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/MainlineBuilds .

If testing on your main install would be inconvenient, one may:
1) Install Ubuntu to a different partition and then test this there.
2) Backup, or clone the primary install.

If the latest kernel did not allow you to test to the issue (ex. you couldn't
boot into the OS) please make a comment in your report about this, and continue
to test the next most recent kernel version until you can test to the issue.
Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel version
specifically you tested. If this issue is fixed in the mainline kernel, please
add the following tags by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil
icon, next to the word Tags, located at the bottom of the report description:
kernel-fixed-upstream
kernel-fixed-upstream-X.Y-rcZ

Where X, and Y are the first two numbers of the kernel version, and Z is
the release candidate number if it exists.

If the mainline kernel does not fix the issue, please add the following tags:
kernel-bug-exists-upstream
kernel-bug-exists-upstream-X.Y-rcZ

Please note, an error to install the kernel does not fit the criteria of
kernel-bug-exists-upstream.

Also, you don't need to apport-collect further unless specifically
requested to do so.

Once testing of the latest upstream kernel is complete, please mark this
report Status Confirmed. Please let us know your results.

Thank you for your understanding.

[Bug 1584479] Re: [MSI GP72 6QE Leopard Pro] Touchpad not detected on 16.04

2016-06-06 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Sam, agreed. I'm not sure expecting the touchpad to be detected when
ACPI is disabled is a reasonable technical expectation (although having
a working touchpad is a reasonable expectation).

Hence, this report should refocus to why you have to disable ACPI in the
first place (which in itself is a very drastic move).

With this in mind, as per https://www.msi.com/Laptop/support/GP72-6QE-
Leopard-Pro.html#down-bios an update to your computer's buggy, insecure,
and outdated BIOS is available (E1795IMS.114). When you update to this
following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate does this improve
your situation?

For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette
.

Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so
posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful.

Also, you don't have to create a new bug report.

Once the BIOS is updated, if the problem is still reproducible:
1) Please provide the output of the following terminal command (not perform an
apport-collect):
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date
2) Please make a comment specifically advising on if there was an improvement
or not.
3) Please mark this report Status Confirmed.

If it's not reproducible, please mark this as Invalid.

Thank you for your understanding.

[Bug 1589786] [NEW] badly pixelated icon at lightdm greeter

Public bug reported:

To reproduce install lubuntu yakkety from alternate iso install lubuntu and
reboot into your install.
Look at the lightdm-gtk-greeter icon it is badly pixelated on a 1024x768

raster icon resized up way too much.

This bug affected me too, Ubuntu 16.04 with Evince 3.18.2 wouldn't allow

"xenial-proposed" enabled (Hmmm, I don't remember enabling this) I was
able to disable "xenial-proposed" and back out all the "proposed"
updates. Both Evince and Firefox are working normal again.

** Description changed:

- I just recently did a fresh install of Ubuntu 16.04 on my desktop last
- weekend, and since that time my household had to reconfigure our modem
- and router setup (from bridge mode to DHCP mode). As a result, I lost
- all ability on my computer to connect to WiFi or the Internet. This
- isn't the first time this has happened on an Ubuntu version.
+ When I installed Ubuntu 16.04 I had to reconfigure our modem and router
+ setup from bridge mode to DHCP mode. As a result, I lost all ability on
+ my computer to connect to WiFi.

- However, all other devices in my household (there are over eight other
- devices between my family members), including my iPad and my
- PlayStation, had Internet connection. Growing desperate, I
- troubleshooted for days, trying out multiple solutions posted on
- AskUbuntu.com. I even opened up two AskUbuntu.com questions, and some
- people helped me troubleshoot the issue for a while. But eventually they
- gave up and left me alone with my problem.
+ However, the other eight connected devices (ex. iPad, PlayStation) have
+ Internet connection.

- I felt so frustrated and exasperated. I thought I was never going to get
- Internet on my desktop again. Or that I would have to completely
- reinstall Ubuntu 16.04, because some old settings had been imprinted on
- my file system or something. But I can't be reinstalling my OS every
- time someone in my house alters something on our modem or router.
-
- Finally, this morning, I decided I would try one last thing: power-
- cycling our router and modem. I was very reluctant to do this, because
- the Internet had at last been working great for everyone in our house
- (we'd been having chronic Internet problems over the previous months),
- and I didn't want to compromise that. But I really need to have Internet
- on my desktop. So I power-cycled our router and modem, and finally,
- FINALLY my Internet works on my computer. It is a bit slow (only 2 Mbps
- download speed, and web pages load up slowly), but it actually works.
- I'm of course very skeptical that it will stop working at any time, but
- for now, it's functional.
-
- The issue I have with Ubuntu is that the networking seems extremely
- touchy and fragile, and isn't very resilient when something changes on
- your home network. My iPad doesn't have that problem at all; it will
- reconnect to any router within seconds, and you'll be back on the
- Internet in no time. My PlayStation can reestablish a new connection
- profile pretty much automatically and get you back gaming online within
- minutes. It's with Ubuntu, or Linux, that I've repeatedly encountered
- this debilitating issue, where reconnecting to an altered network is
- such a precarious thing.
-
- I'd really, REALLY like to continue using Ubuntu. For at least a few
- years, I no longer have Windows on my machine, I game heavily on Steam
- for Linux, and I really need the Internet on my desktop for work and for
- pleasure. But if I can't get Internet

[Bug 1589775] [NEW] ifupdown of ucarp interface fails

2016-06-06 Thread Sangeetha Srikanth
Public bug reported:

lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 14.04.4 LTS
Release:14.04

apt-cache policy ifupdown
ifupdown:
  Installed: 0.7.47.2ubuntu4.4
  Candidate: 0.7.47.2ubuntu4.4

ifupdown of ucarp interface fails if the interface name >=16 chars.

Example configuration,

bond0.1234:ucarp

/usr/share/ucarp/vip-up bond0.1234 10.10.20.2

RTNETLINK answers: Numerical result out of range
Failed to bring up bond0.1234:ucarp.

To work around this issue,
1) Rename the bond0.1234:ucarp interface manually in /etc/network/interfaces
file to bond0.1234:u
2) Edit /usr/share/ucarp/vip-up and /usr/share/ucarp/vip-down script
to use the modified interface name.

/sbin/ifup $1:u

This issue affects all ucarp interfaces on vlans > 999.

** Description changed:

I don't have any audio output through the laptop's internal speakers but
I get audio fine if I plug in external speakers.

I can get audio working briefly by running

  sudo hda-verb /dev/snd/hwC0D0 0x1f SET_POWER_STATE 0

  as suggested at
  http://lkml.iu.edu/hypermail/linux/kernel/1301.1/02917.html

but it doesn't last very long before the audio turns off again.

[Bug 1589379] Re: System frozen after resume, on Ubuntu 16.04 kernel 4.4.0-22

2016-06-06 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
bastien, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better.

In order to allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue, at your
earliest convenience, could you please test the latest upstream kernel
available from http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/?C=N;O=D ? Please
keep in mind the following:

[Bug 1583888] Re: Laptop crashes when trying to run discrete AMD GPUs commands with Xenial

2016-06-06 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Pierre Equoy:
1) Regarding your logs.zip and tgz file, it's much more helpful to only attach
what is relevant uncompressed/untarred, versus copying everything in various
folders (much of which isn't relevant).
2) Regarding including a .crash file. It's always best not to manually attach
this to a report, as it could contain sensitive information one may rather not
reveal. Hence, I'll be deleting the file momentarily as I've extracted the bits
regarding the kernel call trace.
3) Regarding the .crash file, given this is an xorg crash, you would want to
file a new report against it. Have you done this already?
4) Regarding the kernel call trace, could you please test the latest mainline
kernel (4.7-rc2) and advise to the results?

** Description changed:

I'm trying to get my laptop with an AMD integrated GPU and AMD discrete
GPU to work with the open source drivers on Xenial.

- In order to use the discrete GPU, in Xenial you can prefix any command
- with `DRI_PRIME=1`. However, this will crash the OS.
+ In order to use the discrete GPU, in Xenial you can prefix any command with

+
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1583888/+attachment/4678542/+files/kern.log

I tried installing a backported kernel from
  http://people.canonical.com/~amilone/amdgpu-4.5/ and even though the
computer does not crash anymore, it still won't show anything (but the
process launched will take 100% of the CPU and cannot be stopped nor
  killed, it looks...).

I tried with the following commands:
  glxinfo
  glxgears
  DRI_PRIME=1 glxinfo
  DRI_PRIME=1 glxgears

Once, I managed to get some output from the `glxinfo` command, with and
without `DRI_PRIME=1` prefix:
  $ glxinfo | grep -i "opengl"
  OpenGL vendor string: X.Org
OpenGL renderer string: Gallium 0.4 on AMD KAVERI (DRM 2.43.0, LLVM 3.8.0)
OpenGL core profile version string: 4.1 (Core Profile) Mesa 11.2.0
OpenGL core profile shading language version string: 4.10
OpenGL core profile context flags: (none)
OpenGL core profile profile mask: core profile

OpenGL ES profile shading language version string: OpenGL ES GLSL ES 3.00
  OpenGL ES profile extensions:

  $ DRI_PRIME=1 glxinfo | grep -i "opengl"
  OpenGL vendor string: X.Org
OpenGL renderer string: Gallium 0.4 on AMD ICELAND (DRM 3.1.0, LLVM 3.8.0)
OpenGL core profile version string: 4.1 (Core Profile) Mesa 11.2.0

So it looks like the discrete GPU is used, but so far I couldn't really
use it to run anything 3D-demanding.

Attached is a Zip with a lot of logs, hope this will help!

[Bug 1589756] [NEW] [Satellite L745, Conexant CX20585, Speaker, Internal] No sound at all

2016-06-06 Thread Jeremy Bicha
Public bug reported:

I don't have any audio output through the laptop's internal speakers but
I get audio fine if I plug in external speakers.

I can get audio working briefly by running

sudo hda-verb /dev/snd/hwC0D0 0x1f SET_POWER_STATE 0

as suggested at
http://lkml.iu.edu/hypermail/linux/kernel/1301.1/02917.html

but it doesn't last very long before the audio turns off again.

[Bug 1589753] [NEW] Layout breaks after doing things in other tabs

2016-06-06 Thread Cory Bloor
Public bug reported:

I'm pretty sure this wasn't happening a couple months ago, so this seems
to be a recently introduced.

Steps to Reproduce:

1. Visit https://mmistakes.github.io/hpstr-jekyll-theme/
2. Click 3-lined Menu icon.
3. Click 'About'.
4. Right-click the author image and open the inspector.
6. Visit https://pages.cpsc.ucalgary.ca/~cgbloor/w16/cpsc355/ in new tab.
7. Click 3-lined Menu icon.
8. Click 'TA Info'.
9. Right-click the author image and open the inspector.
10. Note that the layout changes in both tabs.
11. Pull one tab out so it becomes a new window.
12. Note that the layout is fixed in the new window.

The wrapper around the button and menu is 'position:fixed', the menu box
is 'position:absolute', and the contents are 'position:relative'. It
looks like the layout breaking may be caused by the position relative
things moving to (0,0). I'm not particularly great with CSS (hence why
I'm using somebody's theme), but I'm reporting this as a bug because it
seems wrong that actions in one tab can affect layout in another.

Chrome on Windows 8.1 and Safari on OSX 10.11 seem to display both pages
fine, though I only briefly tried them.

[Bug 1589751] [NEW] Simple file fails to compile with -O2 or -O3

2016-06-06 Thread Michael Poole
Public bug reported:

I have a new laptop with Ubuntu 16.06 (xenial) installed onto a new
partition, plus nvidia-cuda-toolkit 7.5.18-0ubuntu1 from multiverse.

$ echo '#include ' > dummy.cpp
$ g++ -c -O2 dummy.cpp
$ cp dummy.cpp dummy.cu
$ nvcc -c -O2 dummy.cu
/usr/include/string.h: In function ‘void* __mempcpy_inline(void*, const void*,
size_t)’:
/usr/include/string.h:652:42: error: ‘memcpy’ was not declared in this scope
   return (char *) memcpy (__dest, __src, __n) + __n;
  ^

nvcc can compile it at -O0 and -O1, and it is a conforming translation
unit (modulo the addition of at least one definition after the #include
statement; including such a definition does not affect the error).

[Bug 1375889] Re: reply to message in gmail shows garbled reply view

2016-06-06 Thread Bill Filler
I had similar lack of success when tweaking the override in ua-
overrides-mobile.js

Then I removed the override and starting tweaking the default UA string
just to see if it had any effect in UserAgent02.qml.

This string caused better formatting of mail.google.com and looked
similar to Android. I tested using the browser and opening
mail.google.com - did not try the webapp as I don't know if that has
it's own override.

readonly property string _template: "Mozilla/5.0 (Linux; Ubuntu %1%2%3)
AppleWebKit/%4 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/%5 %6Safari/%7%8"

Maybe the override mechanism is not working correctly?

Only issue I observed with this UA String is that double tapping
spacebar to insert period and autocaps no longer work when
composing/replying to message.
