I would set that higher than wishlist, currently snapcraft has no
framework to get its custom .desktop translated which means it's not
usable to provide desktop entries to non english users...

[Bug 1596405] Re: Obsolete 13.1 LTS branch release in Xenial

2016-06-29 Thread Early Bird
I see. Actually, it probably won't fit SRU policy due to the paragraph:

> Note that some noise introduced by autoreconf is okay, but making
structural changes to the build system (such as introducing new library
dependencies) is generally not.

in the linked document.

13.1-cert7 and 13.9.1 depend on a newer version of pjproject which is
currently not available in the 16.04 repositories, meaning that at least
those two packages need to be backported (there is a huge mess with
audio/video related issues. How is Ubuntu's stance on bundled libraries?
13.9.1 supports building against a bundled copy of pjproject which
removes the need to backport any other dependency. In fact, that is how
I'm currently building 13.9.1 on Xenial.

The library is bundled to ensure that a version that has been tested for
regressions by Digium is used for linking (Asterisk links to it
statically).

Is this allowed? I won't be able to do the packaging on company time
because we have the above setup working quite well but am interested in
following up on this project on my own time (i.e. not very hurriedly).

[Bug 1597610] [NEW] virt-install default to virtio type - disk and network

2016-06-29 Thread bugproxy
Public bug reported:

== Comment: #0 - JENIFER HOPPER  - 2016-06-28 11:58:08 ==
---Problem Description---
For best performance, we would like Power guests to default to virtio for disk
and network type when using virt-install. All supported ppc64le guest OSes have
virtio support.

For the disk default, there is an upstream commit:

commit f6322c9ed8e6d38083e6365ab9f08e5a09d147be
Author: Shivaprasad G Bhat
Date: Thu Apr 21 13:30:34 2016 +0530

virtinst: Use virtio bus type for disks on pSeries machines

pSeries doesn't support ide and so was changed to use the scsi. virtio
works better on pSeries with better performance outcomes. Change the default to
virtio for disks

I am checking on the current upstream status for the network default.
Looks like right now on 16.04, virt-install defaults to rtl8139 even if
--os-variant is used.

Hi Jennifer,

The below patch also needs to pulled into Ubuntu as the CDROMs cannot work on
virtio bus on PPC.
https://github.com/virt-manager/virt-manager/commit/94f610465f45264142ff5def7b5ceaf9ecfe065b

Thanks,

Canonical,

Please include the upstream disk and cdrom patches listed in this bug
report.

please note that network portion is still a work in progress and a patch
will made available for inclusion soon.

Changing the network default would significantly help out of the box
performance, but as of now many users are probably aware that virtio is
a good tuning option.

[Bug 1572801] Re: Ubuntu 16.04 Unity desktop uses much more ram than Ubuntu 15.10

2016-06-29 Thread Ilias
I installed xubuntu 16.04 (clean installation) on 3 machines. Two of
them have 4gb ram and duo core celeron cpu and the 3rd has only 2gb but
a core duo cpu. Generally, I see that 16.04 needs more ram than 14.04
did to run the same applications. On my 3rd machine (this with 2gb ram
only) many times (when many tabs on internet browser are open or flash
is running) exceeds the whole ram and starts swap (set vm.swappiness=1
instead the default 60). Under 14.04 my 3rd machine never needed to use
swap.

# Dell Precision microphone mute
evdev:name:Dell WMI hotkeys:dmi:bvn*:bvr*:bd*:svnDell*:pnPrecision*

[Bug 1597598] Re: a11y-profile-manager-indicator has wrong scale in Ubiquity with HiDPI display.

2016-06-29 Thread Kai-Heng Feng
When using gtk_icon_theme_load_icon_for_scale() instead of
gtk_icon_info_load_icon(), this issue is gone. But I suspect it's not to
root cause.

There's a commit in newer GTK:
"001598a icon theme: Improve loading of unthemed files"
which takes desired_scale into account, but cherry-pick the commit into
Xenial's gtk does not solve the issue.

[Bug 1577734] Re: Backport packages for 14.04.5 lts-xenial stack

2016-06-29 Thread Adam Conrad
Hello Timo, or anyone else affected,

Accepted libxrandr into trusty-proposed. The package will build now and
be available at
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libxrandr/2:1.5.0-1~trusty1 in a
few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to
enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this update
out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, and change the tag
from verification-needed to verification-done. If it does not fix the
bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to
verification-failed. In either case, details of your testing will help
us make a better decision.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance!

[Bug 1507448] Re: Kubuntu installation into external disk ruins internal disk boot whilst leaving external disk unbootable

2016-06-29 Thread Kelby
Ditto - just ran into this exact same issue attempting to install
Kubuntu 16.04 onto an external SSD drive. My internal hard drive had
full drive encryption on it and so it was completely trashed and I lost
all data on it. Like the guy mentioned in the original post, the whole
problem could have been avoided with a simple warning telling me that
the guided option will install the boot loader on a different drive than
I selected to install Kubuntu on and I should choose the un-guided
option to customize that.

Hello Timo, or anyone else affected,

Accepted llvm-toolchain-3.8 into trusty-proposed. The package will build
now and be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/llvm-
toolchain-3.8/1:3.8-2ubuntu3~trusty3 in a few hours, and then in the
-proposed repository.

[Bug 1577734] Please test proposed package

2016-06-29 Thread Adam Conrad
Hello Timo, or anyone else affected,

Accepted x11proto-randr into trusty-proposed. The package will build now
and be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/x11proto-
randr/1.5.0-1~trusty1 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed
repository.

Thank you in
advance!

[Bug 990314] Re: libzip1 missing in (12.04 Precise Pangolin)

2016-06-29 Thread Felipe B
To whom it may concern:

I was having the same problem with GNOMESS, and I think it can be solved
by following this workaround.

WARNING: Before doing anything, please read these instructions. Only
proceed until you understand what you'll do.

1. Install the latest version of *libzip* available. At the time of this
writing, it was 4.

2. Determine the architecture of your computer. This can be done with
the following command, if such information is available:

uname -i

3. Execute the following command:

cat /etc/ld.so.config.d/*

This command lists the paths where shared libraries are stored.

4. Depending on your architecture, select one path and look for the file
"libzip.so.#", where the pound sign is the version number corresponding
to the *libzip* version installed in step 1.

In my case, I found the file under /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/

5. Being in the directory where the shared library is, create a symlink
named "libzip.so.1" with the following command:

ln -s libzip.so.# libzip.so.1

Remember to replace the pound sign with the actual version installed.

6. Test the program that caused the fault. This is important, as it is
possible the program expects methods from the library that are no longer
available in the version being used.

BE CAUTIOUS WITH THIS STEP! If possible, use the program with copies of
your work so that in case of failure, your work won't be lost.

7. If there's still the chance, inform the program developers about the
fault and the need to switch to the newer versions of the library
available in the repositories.

I hope this gets your problem solved.

P.S.: If this doesn't solve your problem, and a newer program is
available, don't risk yourself and use it instead of trying to get the
old one to work. Either that or use an older Ubuntu version.

[Bug 1597315] Re: package libapache2-mod-php7.0 7.0.4-7ubuntu2.1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2016-06-29 Thread CEO
Further investigation revealed that the libapache2-mod-php was not able to
install php.load and php.conf into the apache2 available modules at
/etc/apache2/mods-available.
The assumption raised that it may due to the corruption of apache2.conf at
/etc/apache2/apache2.conf
Replacement of the file did not fixed the problem. Neither reinstallation of
Apache2. Therefor, the last option was to purge the apache2, php and
libapache2-mod-php.
sudo apt-get remove --purge apache2, php, php7.0, php-common, libapache2-mod-php
This action revealed that the following directories cannot be deleted by the
system. It might be due to the corruption of the configuration files:

/etc/apache2/apache2.conf
/etc/php/7.0/apache2/conf.d
/etc/php/7.0/cli/conf.d

Manully removing them and reinstalling the apache2, php, and libapache2
-mod-php solved the problem:

sudo rm -r /etc/apache2 /etc/php
sudo apt-get install apache2 php libapache2-mod-php

After this action, the problem has been rectified. The two files
php.conf and php.load are successfully installed in /etc/apache2/mods-
available. This module is enabled automatically at /etc/apache2/mods-
enabled
