The issue was with Epson drivers for printers and some other
manufacturers who required lsb for printer install. HP printers are

fixed by removing $RPCNFSDARGS from line 29 in

/lib/systemd/system/nfs-server.service

replacing with debug flag, this works through reboot without any restart
required in rc.local

ExecStart=/usr/sbin/rpc.nfsd -d

RPCNFSDARGS was not defined in /etc/default/nfs-kernel-server
and it wasn't read from there when set - defining it as "-d" did not enable the 
option or allow the service to start.

I reliably reproduce the bug by:
Start SMPlayer.
Open a file to play (audio or small video).

Open another file, that does not require the full screen (audio, or small video)
Whatever was visible on the larger area remains there, the window bar still 
occupies the full width of the screen, and if one goes back and forth between 
other desktops and the one containing SMPlayer, whatever part of the screen 
that SMPlayer is NOT using for its main/Playlist boxes is duplicated from the 
other desktop.

If I un-maximixe the window, then the effect is not there: if I have a
video playing, and open an audio file, it changes to a smaller box, but
none of the desktop-duplicating is there.

I will try not maximizing, but merely enlarging the window by pulling on the 
edges, to see if the effect is there or not...
No.  Even if I make the window as large as the screen, it does not exhibit the 
problem.
But if I take the manually-maximized window and click on the maximize button, 
THEN the problem manifests as soon as I open a file that does not require the 
full screen to play.

It seems that the window-maximize button is the key.

1. Open Startup Disk Creator from Dash
2. Select 'Source disc image', eg., 
http://releases.ubuntu.com/16.04/ubuntu-16.04-desktop-amd64.iso
3. Select 'Disc to use'
4. Click 'Make Startup Disk'
5. When finished unplug the USB stick and plug into the UEFI computer you want 
to boot

Expected result:
USB stick should appears under UEFI boot options

Actual result:
USB stick just created doesn't show up, and not even able to boot via legacy 
mode.


Additional note:
On the same system with same ISO image, USB stick re-created by unetbootin can 
be booted into UEFI mode correctly.

Looks like I got a failure with the run on

But with my diff + 4.4.0 source from apt-source, I can always get the
the following command to succeed.

timeout -s 9 $end_time stress-ng --aggressive --verify --timeout
$runtime --brk 0

I've tried three times with my diff (all success) and twice with the
kernel @ ~kamal (one failure and one success). I've not tried the longer
7 hour run

In the kern.log posted, it looks like the problem has moved to

rwsem_wake+0xcc/0x110
up_write+0x78/0x90
unlink_anon_vmas+0x15c/0x2c0

A bunch of threads are stuck on rwsem_wake -- spinning on the
sem->wait_lock. I can see a whole bunch of exiting  stress-ng-mmapf
stuck on this lock, spinning. I'll double check this. Can we get a build
with lockdep enabled? I am unable to reproduce this issue at my end with
the diff applied on my machine at the moment

I cloned the kernel from

 and built with the machine config specified from /boot/config. I also verified 
the diff matches my changes.

I ran

twice

Both the times, the test did the right thing. Could someone verify if

(a) The smaller subset works fine?
(b) The larger test fails, if so, can we get a run with lockdep

I was just testing for the command line above and I could see a
difference with those patches.

Experimenting a bit...

First, the high DPI did not seem to do anything, merely by clicking the "Enable 
Support..."
box, and leaving the "Scale->Auto" box checked.

I noted under Interface->Style there was a GTK+ option, and things looked a bit 
bigger and better than when Fusion (default) was in effect - the menu items 
were somewhat larger, also.
Strangly, when I switched back to Fusion to clarify the difference(s), the size 
remained the same.
Also, when re-started SMPlayer after selecting GTK+, the menubar was back to 
being miniscule.

I noted that Default Font was blank.  Also that when I clicked on Change, the 
selected font displayed was Ubuntu Medium 14 (although it had selected Medium 
Italic, for some reason...
I modified it to just Medium.
Nothing changed on the menubar until I restarted SMPlayer.  The menu font was 
larger.  Not as large as I would like, but that is obviously changeable.
I went back to HighDPI, unchecked Scale->Auto, and put the slider all the way 
to the right ("4").  After restart, everything was HUGE, except for the font 
size, which had not changed at all...(!)  Why would the font not also scale up? 
 I put it back to Scale->Auto.

I don't know why the font selector for SMPlayer knows what the system font/size 
is (except it is not italic), yet it does not default to that font 
automatically, and leaves the font box blank.  Whether this is a bug or 
intentionally odd, I don't know, but in my humble opinion,
SMPlayer ought to default to the system font/size, and place that info in the 
(currently blank) Default Font box in the Interface section of the Preferences.

Incidentally I did warn that bugs like this could and would happen when
we added maliit support for Xmir apps. The shell should still provide a
failsafe 'hide-the-OSK' feature upon switching apps if the requisite
'hide' message never came through from the app.

I don't think those revision numbers are "useless". Revisions 386 and 388 do 
exist:

So you just need to be sure you're flashing with the same channel and
device, and use --revision=X to select which one.

As well as removing hosts lookup in the smb.conf file (#29) you can also
prevent this behaviour by installing the libnss-winbind package and
adding wins to the hosts line in /etc/nsswitch.conf

Ex:

hosts:  files wins mdns4_minimal [NOTFOUND=return] dns

That should allow samba to find all the hosts it sees in broadcasts,
without sending the lookup to the broken dns server(s).

Alternatively, you an modify your search domain so you don't inherit an
internet domain from the router.

Unity isn't drawn into X11 at all. Unity is a Compiz plugin and Compiz
paints everything including the root window, in whatever order the
Compiz plugins desire.

Compiz is able to paint anything, including outside of X11 windows. And
that's what the Unity shell is -- outside the realm of X11 windows. It's
just pure OpenGL.

Bug description:
  The page at https://help.ubuntu.com/lts/ubuntu-help/power-
  suspendfail.html states:

  "If you suspend or hibernate your computer, then try to resume it or
  turn it back on, you may find that it does not work as you expected.
  This could be because suspend and hibernate aren't supported properly
  by your hardware"

  -- that may be possible, but it is at least extremely improbable.
  Most PCs have been sold with Microsoft Windows operating systems for
  many years, which are capable of resuming computers from suspend.
  Ubuntu's explanation is deliberately misleading and essentially false;
  far more accurate is the following:

  "If you suspend or hibernate your computer, then try to resume it or
  turn it back on, you may find that it does not work as you expected.
  This is because suspend and hibernate aren't supported properly by
  Linux operating systems including Ubuntu"

  Does Canonical understand the difference between hardware and
  software?

Não consigo fazer uma doação para o desenvolvedor de um complemento de que 
gosto no Firefox.
Quando clico no botão azul,aparece em seguida uma mensagem de que será 
reencaminhado para o paypal, com um rodamoinho indicando uma espera de tempo. 
mas então o menu de doação some e a tela fica um pouco mais escura, indicando 
um congelamento. Clicando em reload page, começo tudo de novo e novamente não 
consigo.
